#Powkiddy Rgb20sx: the vertical '30
1353 messages · Page 2 of 2 (latest)
I'm excited to see g99 replace the t618 tbh
Aldocube makes g99 tablets for 130 bucks
i have one. it's great
blows away the t618
I'm not a huge ps2/gc guy so efficiency and price matter more to me than d900 or above performance
really you're not going to play much ps2 until you have a Dimensity
but the helio is great with psp
if we can start getting affordable android handhelds in various form factors (pocketable widescreen, 1:1 arcade handheld, maybe a 6 button sega/n64 handheld) with g99s instead of t618 I'm happy
retro pixel pocket was a bummer man
t618s are getting harder to get so you'll either get a 610 or 810 if they have a unisoc deal or a helio with a mediatek deal
i think the 710 is available but it's really just an updooted 618
like they added an extra gig of ram or something
2 more a75 cores
2 *fewer a55 cores
i have high hopes for where unisoc goes
because mediatek is showing off packages that are starting to rival current gen samsung
which is not something anyone's done\
do they have a flagship higher than the t820?
The Tanggula T820 i think is the newest
this series replaced the tiger
(T6xx and T700/710)
Unisoc isnt bad, but they have shitty partnership deals and their support is iffy
The G99 comes super close to the t820, but the t820 scores maybe 20% better in some stuff
This one gives it to the T820 and its probably accurate: https://nanoreview.net/en/soc-compare/unisoc-t820-vs-mediatek-helio-g99
We put Unisoc T820 against MediaTek Helio G99 to find out which SoC is better. See performance comparison in benchmarks and games.
the good news is that we're at that time of year where rockchip might reduce prices on the rk3588
Right now I can order 1000 RK3588s for a price of about $100 each
alibaba has it cheaper than mass distribution at about half that price
my pie in the sky wishlist would be for the rk3588s to make its way into an a13 successor
so we're still talking $50 just for the cpu
soc
also unrelated, but i just learned that the guy who runs CNX software lives in Chiang mai
so $200+ devices only?
until they can fix that price yeah
i put in 1000 units and the answer was $104 but when i did 10k it only went down to $100
but over on alibaba it shows 40-50 usd
They must be thriving on some big contracts to keep the price that high for this long
We can call them and beg. Rockchip's number is 0086-591-83991906
Medical devices
I'm not a fan of the rk3588 (from my experience of gameforce)
usually you would use something like the 3588 in a process intensive application that needs high precision
it gets hot
Might be a good chip for car infotainments systems also
so not signboards or anything, but really critical type devices
you'd probably go mediatek for this
they are dirt cheap
or like even an actions cpu would be fine
for car infotainment, you want basic processing that can decode video
and dirt cheap price
My GF's factory makes the android/apple car play things. I can ask her what they use
probably some proprietary realtime bullshit
(this is the limit of my knowledge. More than this im speculating)
are powkiddy gonna throw their hat in the 2.8 inch ring? or are they just gonna sell the MagicX one?
Please don't call it the 2.8 inch ring
unclear.
The squared circle, if you will
I say this for the fact that in 1998, Anbernic threw Miyoo off Hell in a cell, and plummeted 16 inches through the announcer's table!
The 2.8 inch arena sounds funny, like some bug wrestling setup
anyway, 20sx. it's kinda nice. I was going to do a new card and tkae it out tomorrow for testing
it supports rocknix out of the box and i've been very serious in asking them to actually include the team, so some of them shoudl have them today or soon
trust me though, pk knows exactly what the community does for them. It's not lost on them at all.
Anbernic is another story
but they dumped me
maybe not. my anbernic rep was just useless. maybe i dumped her
I'm sure all these company's know what impact the community has, acknowledging it is something completely different
It initially took miyoo by surprise and data frog was NOTTTTT ready for their popularity
Yeah, good move on Miyoo getting the A30 devices out to the onion devs early
dude the a30 has been sitting around for years
i think miyoo is still mad at me
who knows why
It strikes me as a side project, like they've had the hardware configured for over a year but there's more software tweaks to be made
Like 2 or 3 years now
they were "working on the final design" before they leaked the p60
6 months into the miyoo mini og
like right when they did v2.5 with the shitty screens, they told me about the A30 (but it didnt have that name)
What led to the delay?
the a30 was supposed to be out before the mm+
no idea, but probably the lack of screens
they were using blackberry deadstock
those screens were amazing
yeah the screen on miyoo mini v2 is unreal
there's a new one they are all going to use now. the anbernic and miyoo will vary in terms of white balance but not much else
Explains the rotation issue
dude rotated screens are cool now didnt you hear?
Even Valve is using them!
i got a Chuwi Minibook X. the screen is by default rotated
that laptop btw i recommend if you want a 10 inch
it's amazing
the n100 performs marginally better than an i5-6th gen
here's this. non affiliate link: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006504952422.html
That's wild for the price
Daaamn
Thanks for the heads up, gonna be on the lookout, currently on a win max 2020 (laptop wise) & it's a pain sometimes
yeah man good luck. the resolution is a little cramped. at 100% scale i cant read shit
otherwise its great
Shit, I’m dreaming someone gets a dumb idea to put an iPad 4:3 screen into an N100 tablet/laptop
Wait, is it 4:3?
color isn't super great
well it's 16:10
Yeah, that’s kinda key
anyway thats it for me today. enjoy guys
If it were 4:3, I’d get one to play old RPGs and as a DOSbox machine
gonna watch this dude clown on your old linksys router: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w_kBbu4Ov48
I'd always heard early Wi-Fi routers have PCMCIA cards hiding inside... let's open up some old Linksys routers and find out!

can confirm it runs dosbox great but scaling is fucked up still
full screen centers and displays native but you can run 3x
like normal3x
its a great dosbox laptop
It's a vibe. I dont know how to describe it. Even MacOS Classic looks great but sheepshaver runs like shit on the n100
We have confirmation of arkos booting
I don't have it yet
I don't need you anymore
also confirming i just took the cards out of my rgb30 and it fired jelos right up
actually going to sleep now. good luck for those of you who get one today. please post feedback if you have it
Mine left california this morning. Should get it monday or tuesday 🤞🏻
Would this be a decent upgrade to the regular rgb20s?
maybe? layout/ergo looks a little wonky. chip is an upgrade, screen is nice. im just kinda questioning why you would get this over rgb30 i guess unless you really want vertical (which a lot of people do so this should sell well at least)
maybe how squished the controls are will make the ergo better than 353v? stretch between sticks and shoulders seems smaller at least
I actually like the rgb20s/r35s layout. Sticks on top keep the thumbs from cramping
yeah. sticks look close to the shoulders at least tho but maybe thats just the taller screen making it look that way?
Yeah I think ill pass on this. Was looking to swap my ogs for another pocket vertical since the TSP is in my collection now
i think this screen makes it more of a 2d-first device tho so i understand having dpad top
I can see that. No long sessions of phantasy star portable or god eater with this layout
yeah. i wonder if maybe it would be better without the sticks, going full poor man's analog pocket. screen shines for gb and if you're team integer scaling its great for nes/snes too i think? im personally team 4:3 lol but the resolution is still higher for that than any 4:3 screen.
but yeah knowing what u like in yr handhelds i dont think this seems like one for you lol. you like to push the higher end stuff and i think this and rgb30 are more for making the low-end stuff look really good
it's a good thing Data Frog is still selling the r35s. cool then, i'll be preparing my next marketplace entry
yeah i think this will be decent but i dont think its for you specifically lol
Yeah this one isn't for everyone. I will say that screen real estate is SHOCKING even having the rgb30
In vertical format that open space on the sides makes it look just fucking massive
(I'll get better shots of it later)
yeah the screen to body ratio is insane
How does it feel in hand so far?
It takes some getting used to. I'll have better insights in a while.
Rad
Mostly just curious as my SX Machine is on its way still
I'm probably gonna try to get some stick plugs for it
Actually very excited for this one
This screen is bright as shit boys and girls
I've been sitting here with it on level 8 thinking it's so bright and just discovered I was on 8/10
very instagrammable, lol
lookadatblue
Smiley with nose
Curious, how big is it compared to a say real GBC?
not sure but nara told me it's almost the same size exactly as the analogue
"I just compared in photoshop" -Nara
I didn't realise the analogue pocket was only 3.5"
the only difference that this one have with the rgb is the WiFi chip basically?
Wonder when mine will arrive
I think in the next day or two, just got released from customs
Sorry my english sometimes isn't good. Can you rephrase this? I don't fully understand what you're asking. This one is different from every other device becasue it's a vertical 1:1 device. The Analogue is an FPGA device doing hardware emulation and this is using software emulation on an RK3566. Resolution on the 20sx is half of the analogue. Has wifi.
Yeah, the rgb30 has a better wifi chip but this device has a function button
FN registers on Rocknix and Jelos out of the box. The old Jelos card works fine in this one and FN registers as button 10
I burned a rocknix card for this but the card i used is probably a fake, so i'
I've wasted a day
nothing but table errors on boot
Sounds like it should be a quick and easy fix for ArkOS then, if anyone wishes to support the device
sorry i forgot to write the 30 after the rgb ahah
This has a bigger battery too, 5000mAh>4100mAh.
ok so the old rgb30 jelos card sees FN as button 10 but the rocknix it came with doesn't register at all
what is RockNix?
It's what jelos is now
Good to know. Means I can just drop in my RGB30v2 build on this.
I’m in the camp that with verticals, dual analog sticks don’t make sense. Too uncomfortable to use them on such a cramped form factor. In this case, seems as if this unit would look much better with less bezel and no sticks. 🤔
Could have been the unit i’ve been looking for that the gkd mini didn’t achieve for me.
No analog sticks and less protruding shoulders would have been golden
You might want to talk with spycat. Otherwise it seems like things just kind of work.
What a comparison! These 2 devices being around the same size blows my mind !! 🤯
naramakesgames on ig has more. We met today for a coffee it was hot as shit outside 😂
AP looks like what you would expect from a modern gameboy. The RGB20SX looks like an unholy genetic mutation
I should really reserve my judgement until I get it in hand but the more pictures of the unit I look at, the less I like what I see.
That may cause more issues without the sticks unless you solder some resistors in place
People have done that for the RGB30, actually https://makerworld.com/en/models/403629
Yeah - I'll keep it stock for a bit. I pulled the sticks out of the 35xx h but that's running Minui so analog sticks aren't really necessary. Hopefully it feels ok leaving it as is
I hope they do more colours of this guy
The yellow is a bit much and I really don’t like the transparent ones (not a transparent shell guy in general but the PCB shape with the holes for the sticks really bothers me here)
Why does the box look like this lmfao
I'm kinda into it
why vs?
it's two health bars with the vs like a fighting game
I wish I could actually get a beige one with red buttons like on the box though
i probably will wait some mod for the face buttons, can't stand the smile
Wonder what happens if I put the ArkOS card from my RGB30 into it
We know ark boots, but still 🤔
maybe the button of the same color of the shell? 🤷
Man that's kind of cruel to give that unit a mastectomy
I can't believe all the fun haters here smdh, every handheld should have a smiley face
yeah I have no complaints about the smiley
I'm really not sure I wanted this thing but seeing all these in real life pictures does make it seem kinda fun and enticing
Worried it will feel kinda top heavy though
sorry, cant help it, seems a boxer ready for destroy me
5000 mAh battery in the bottom should be a counterweight
Anyone know if this does C to C charging? I’m trying to only buy properly usb C compatible stuff going forward tbh
My goal is nothing that doesn’t support usb C PD (slow charge off a usb C charger is fine, no charge is not) in my bag by sometime 2025
I'm also curious about weight and feel, can anyone chime in?
trasparent button and covers for the analog
I sold my rgb30 because the trigger buttons, but i think i will buy this one once is on ali, the screen of the rgb30 was really nice
I’m torn between this guy or the ZPG a1 unicorn tbh
Or nothing if neither is a good enough upgrade from the RGB30 I already own
i was interest on the zpg, but it has android
Yeah, android makes it suck for pico 8 but the g99 makes it able to handle much more modern tate arcades based on the Naomi and atomiswave etc
Plus a touchscreen for NDS
Can't do the full pico-8 console on Android?
no, you can run the pico-8 emulators fake-08 or whatever but you can't run the real app
so no splore, usually compat is a couple pico-8 versions behind, etc
I think you can run “native” Pico 8 with Winlator on Android. Adin Walls did a video
yeah you can
Powkiddy calls it orange apparently
Is one stick looking for you and one looking at you or is it the angle?
Must have been the angle
Stickers!
Have to go pick the kid up but first reactions - kind of awkward to hold?
my office lady gives me the side eye every t time
this was my reaction but after about a day it felt second nature. it's that long boi top
Definitely getting used to it. Weird situation when you have pretty much the same device in a different shape sitting right next to it
I think the buttons on this are better than the rgb30. After a few hours at least
Rgb30 but with a narrower screen, more buttons, and left stick above dpad.
I'm talking about How the NDS screens are positioned
I do like that positioning a lot lol
so far, what OSes boot on the SX, saw arkOS working apart froim the hotkey button?
or does the latest build of rocknix work fine
It identifies as a rgb30, which makes it pretty hard to utilize the menu button by default on a multi-device image
Unless we can somehow probe for the mono speaker
It arrived early!
Waiting for some reviews then I might buy, very tempting
I have my blue transparent model being delivered tomorrow. 🤘🏻
Looks cramped af but I love the 1:1 screen so can't wait to get it in hand
I think the tall screen makes the device look narrower than it is
It’s actually a hair wider than the rgb20s
Yep. I tried a 20s grip. No good
I wish they'd release the 30 in transparent colours
So are the analog sticks in the way when using the dpad and buttons?
I don't think so. I think the bigger adjustment is little grip there is at the bottom. I wish that shoulder buttons were higher I think
analogue pocket beefy grip almost fits the 20sx . also thanks for arkos man what a disaster the current os it ships with is though i think it will imrpove for sure
I really want it but I have a feeling it won’t feel comfortable in my hands.
This is a fucking abomination
I love it
First impressions, I actually really like how this feels in the hands.
Ergos seem good to me, and the plastic feels solid
OK this is my favourite vertical at the moment
I didn’t know it was android? Have you done some wizardry?
Oh forgot to mention, Gamma Core is running on eMMC on the 353 which is why it's a little faster to load stuff.
So which frontend did you decide to use on the Core?
Was originally going to use plain launcher as the primary, but will bundle it as a separate launcher, preconfigured, instead of being the primary launcher.
It works well but could do with some enhancements before making it the main launcher
It does feel pretty solid. Doesn't feel cheap or hollow in the hands
oh shit, 80€ today with store discount + aliexpress coupon on aliexpress, i'm gonna order
The 5000 mAh battery is thick
ordered my cheese boy
It's hard to go back to 480p after using a nice screen
I'm still not sure how to hold it yet though
is it that different from how you hold a 35xx?
The 35xx is just slightly longer on the bottom so I can comfortable grip it without pressing the shoulder buttons
It's really minor so hopefully get used to it
are the shoulders really easy to press unwantedly?
like the 405v had an issue with that for example
L1 and R1 a little for me because l2/r2 are raised. It's not as bad as the 405v though
it's probably fine for me then
(damn, this thing is ugly from behind)
does the yellow one has a rough plastic, or what kind of texture? comparable to the 35xx+?
It's not bad. I wouldn't choose to use the 35xx over this usually. Screen is nice
It's slicker than the 35xx + I have here
Texture wise feels the same as my rgb30 but the rgb30 feels more thin/hollow
Forgot the rgb30 has textured plastic on the corners too
Buttons are better on the sx though for me
oh, hmm
the texture of the plastic is the part i dislike the most from the rgb30
still i think i like vertical better in this case, since it's for my yellow gbc nostalgia
I would describe it as having no texture at all - smooth as silk. I'm not sure how the transparent feels though
i describe it (at least the rgb30) as chalky
it's like slightly sticky and powdery feeling to me
Definitely don't feel that here but feel in hand is so hard to judge
although i describe the odin 2 the same way and i don't dislike that
btw why is this still in rumor mill? lol
This is the first vertical i can see me using. Its actually quite comfy and the screen is so nice 😬
i guess it doesn't come with screen protectors?
my experience with this screen is that it's the smudgiest thing ever
I have some RGB30 ones. That will work fine. They are matte effect
Shoulders are super rattly though, more than any other handheld i have owned
i have a couple leftovers i think, since i had ordered a 3 pack from mr shield
although the rgb30 ones were really form fitting, but this has slightly bigger bezels so it should fit okay still
Should still be fine i imagine. More a case of lining things up ok
I really hope someone figures out a mod for the rattle in the shoulders. This is defiantly not usable when the wife is trying to sleep 😂
These pics making me grab one just to put it on display shelf
Aside from shoulder rattle, going to go out on a limb and say its the nicest feeling powkiddy i have held.
And i usually only like horizontal devices
nice
How are the face buttons and d-pad?
Both very nice 👍 not sure what else i can say. Feels about same as RGB30 ones. Which i already liked a lot.
I think the plastic of the buttons feels different from the rgb30. Like softer? Hard to describe
this
@river comet that device is shipping to people, guess it's time to pop it out of rumor mill?
The whole thing feels much softer. The case is very nice in the hand. I agree hard to describe it
I'm afraid I lost the ability to move channels around
the hell lol
yeah I'm gonna need those perms back or else forum mod means nothing lol
Powkiddy vs EVERYBODY😤
then again I was just gonna rename #1152383241303625758 to include rgb20sx but can't do that either
What is the weight of this
according to powkiddy it has anti-gravity features
240g
Moss is based on jelos i think so not completely surprised. Interesting that it boots fine on the rgb30 though
Weird screen issues here too
