#Anbernic RG35XX H
1520 messages · Page 2 of 2 (latest)
Hmm, the width certainly looks the same though I'm not too sure about the height.
This is the only real information I seen. It’s a little taller than a 351p
Nevermind, just compared the dimensions on Anbernic's website and the RG35XX H is almost identical in size to the RG353M. The only difference is that the 353M is 0.15 cm taller, which is barely any difference at all.
Thanks for the comparison picture though JayLash! ^_^
received it, will be livestreaming later
they put the rg35xx dpad on it
not the plus dpad
first thing I noticed
yes, slightly raised and squared versus the plus
I have an RG35XX and RG35XX Plus here as well so can compare more later
I'll probably head to bed very soon, so I'll probably need to miss the stream, will you leave it up afterwards?
yes of course, all my streams are archived https://www.youtube.com/live/cidx9fA45n8?si=Y6QhzkX2ArA3VhPd
Nice, nice
If possible, do you think you could try some n64 in it?
Haven't see much about that, particularly interested in the zeldas
I tested this before on the Plus (direct timestamp) https://www.youtube.com/live/oIhfDZImT4o?t=4675&si=TjupWeXoxOTHL2Bd I can check if it is any different on the H
Full disclosure: the unit was supplied by ANBERNIC. All opinions are my own and no money was exchanged, no contracts signed for this video.Timestamps below ?...
Would also be interested in GoldenEye performance if you can please @acoustic dock?
sure thing, someone else requested zelda n64
so we’ll do some n64 today
Oh hey, that reminds me, I just wanted to say how much I appreciated your Aya Neo Pocket Air streams! Weirdly they were actually the main thing that convinced me to preorder a Retroid Pocket 4 Pro, since the #1 game I wanted to play on it was Star Fox Adventures and you were the only person on all of YouTube who tested it out on a device with the D1200 chipset and showed it could run full speed at 2x resolution lol So, thank you 🙂
For the RG35XX H stream I'd sure like to see some PS1 games tested with enhanced resolution (and enhanced resolution speed hacks turned on if needed) just to see if it can do PS1 at 2x resolution without slowdown.
going live now
First handheld of 2024!
Full disclosure: the unit was supplied by ANBERNIC. All opinions are my own and no money was exchanged, no contracts signed for this video.

glad I didn't jump on the pre-order... I really wanted the 405/xx plus dpad.
I wonder if the dpad is because they literally just repurposed the 353m shell.
The 353m has the same false diagonals as the 35XX, and most likely the 35XXh
makes sense to me
I tape modded my 353m, so it's not the end of the world, but the 405/35XXplus dpad was a clear upgrade.
Final thoughts?
RK3326 and RK3566 would be able to play PS1 with 'enhanced resolution' turned on without any slowdown. dont worry about that
It would seem so! Forthenext tested Ridge Racer Type 4, Crash Bandicoot, and Tekken 3 in the stream and they all played at a solid 60 fps with enhanced resolution turned on; without even using speed hacks. My original RG35XX absolutely chugged when I tried to load up any PS1 game with enhanced resolution so I'd say that's a huge improvement, and exactly what I want in a small pocketable handheld. As long as it can play the full PlayStation library with enhanced resolution I don't really need anything more than that from it ^_^
The Anbernic RG35XX H is a horizontal version of the RG35XX Plus handheld, with a couple new additions. Let's take a deep-dive look at the device and see where it stands in this very crowded market.
Buy one here: https://bit.ly/RGC-RG35XXH
Please note the device will not be available for sale until January 5th at 5am EST. It will say "sold o...
too early for me, only had a few hours with it so far
no dealbreakers though
kinda wish I got black
I think both translucent options are ugly. Same or something else?
I agree, they lack color
China makes all the Lego. There's plenty of colored plastic kicking around.
that fifa game is unplayable on rk3326(specifically ogs and rgb20s). nice seeing it run full speed.
that's a 66.7% performance gain by building the soc properly for Anbernic after burning through how many handhelds? (rg351p, 351m, 351mp, 351v).
Try a game like Call of Duty - Roads to Victory, which wouldn't lock 30 on rk3326 without a version of ppsspp that has the separate frame limiter to force the cpu layer to sync.
so they really used the original rg35xx dpad for this instead of the fixed one on the plus? 😐
yup...
Anbernic never can put it all together
I laughed when I saw the contra false diagonal test
didn't seem that bad
Apparently I'm a critic too. I was really set to buy an RG35XX H this weekend, then I saw Russ's review where he shows the HDMI out aspect ratios are all borked and cried a little inside. Still kinda tempted to get one anyway, but I'll probably hold off until Garlic OS 2.0 comes along and see if it fixes the HDMI aspect ratios.
Why are people hyper focused on that? I'm by no means a "hardcore" gamer, I play the occasional game and I've never experienced "false" inputs.
I play Apotris.
Yeah dropping every time you want left or right is a thing.
I was originally going to order this in black until I saw forthenext's stream - transparent white for sure now.
I didn't watch, but what's wrong with the HDMI - mine seems to work fine
Yeah - I thought the aspect adjusts on HDMI?
looks ok in the RGC video too.
Ah, I see what he's talking about
Seems like even though the UI adjusts, RA is stretched
On Russ's it displays the menus nicely over HDMI but then stretches the games to 16:9. Russ kinda fixed it by setting the aspect ratios in Retroarch to 8:7 for 4:3 content, but it's still a bit off compared to what it should be.
RA still thinks it's running at the original resolution, but it's stretched instead.
Hoping that's an easy software fix :/
Anbernic is weird with their software. The HDMI out aspect ratios work perfectly on the Linux side of their RK3566 devices, but it's like they just forgot how it was supposed to work on some of their other handhelds.
On the plus side, if there's something you don't like about an Anbernic device then just wait a month or two and they'll make a new device that'll fix some of your grievances while creating a couple new ones XD
Sometimes I wonder if Anbernic intentionally makes every device they produce just slightly imperfect so you'll never be satisfied with what you have and always want to buy their next one >.>
that's not what i would qualify as an issue.
also, retroarch is like that by default on every platform if you use the github nightly branch. You have to manually set aspect ratios or set them to Core Provided.
People don't want to work for their supper.
No. RGC shows you have to set a 1:1 aspect to get it close to 4:3.
That's definitely an issue
or just set the AR to custom and eyeball it.
there are some psx and snes(sfx chip) games that render with black borders and absolutely look horrible unless you use bonkers aspect ratios.
Yeah not sure what games screwing up aspect has to do with RA screwing up the aspect.
Yeah this is a borked hdmi implementation forcing you to use anamorphic 4:3 lmao
Also were going to combine this with the #1176206058570645534 channel when it's time
@silk compass
timestamps added
looked at russ' review. don't see any issue with RA stretching in hdmi mode. i'd say just get over it. sucks that it might be closed source
That Contra test makes me wonder why or how did they mess it up
you could ask powkiddy why they keep using bad dpads. probably comes down to they have a warehouse full of them and plan to use every single one
I refuse to get over it, since correct aspect ratios are one of the most important features a system can have in my eyes. However, instead of complaining further about it on the internet I will simply wait for custom firmware to fix the issue or just not buy the device ^_^
Garlic 2.0.1 Alpha is out with 35XX H support (thanks @uncut tree !)

muOS RG35XX Plus preview build works
PIN THAT 🤣
Nice to see that muOS went from being the meme firmware that people barely talked about to pretty much the main cfw choice for the plus series
Lots of free time fixes that.
It's a real labour of love.
Maybe, though most people couldn't make a solid firmware like it if they had the time
It is indeed a labour of love
Should wait to see if minUI gets put on this handheld or YOLO it and save 5 dollars. Really wish the dpad was tighter
I was gonna go for the preorder, but really, there's not a lot I can do with the H right now that my og can't already do
And it'll take a couple months to really squeeze the best performance and experience out of the H via cfw
By then usually the price on Ali has gone down some 4-5 USD, maybe even more
The OG XX is currently selling for about 60% of the price I bought it for, and that's from reputable sellers
Has anyone tried garlic 2.0 yet?
muffin button
It enables ps5 emulation
it presses
Oh god what does it do!?
it’s a mystery…
It's true
This is fantastic 👏
Do the sticks work?
Loving the muOS progress
not yet, gonna try help @potent igloo with that
perfectly usable in the current state though, was just playing some SNES
oh man, I was really hyped up for the H! I only have a RG353V, but I really want a horizontal option. I like my V, but the D-pad drives me crazy on some games, too!
Was really stoked to see that the D-pad got improved for the RG35XX+. I really don't know what Anbernic is doing that they always have to screw up at least one thing of an otherwise good device
I'm sure the ol' electrical tape fix will do the trick
oh nice to see all them CFWs here
yeah, probably. It is pretty much the only issue I see as of now with the H device
how easy is it to open the device?
there are 4 H1.5 Hex screws on the back
the battery is stuck on the plastic back plate, so don't yank it off
gently disconnect, then you have to unscrew those ~10 internal cross head screws
1.5 hex for the outside
oh, ok. Thank you, @acoustic dock!
seems like a lot of screws to tackle, haha
but is the battery easily replaceable if it is stuck on the backplate?
oh, there are some plastic clips holding the backplate in, I just put my fingernail through them, no need for a flat screwdriver
it's stuck but the adhesive is not that strong
I didn't go further than disconnecting the battery
ah, so there is no other way such that the battery wouldn't move around the case if it weren't stuck on the backplate
thanks for your input
the rg35xx+ is a really nice device in that regard as well, with the well-done battery compartment
I think it won't move around, it fills the space between the speakers
I'll probably remove the adhesive on mine later, I don't like the way it looks on the back with the transparent plastic
yeah, this smudge on the back doesn't look too good. I also have this on my RG353V
AliExpress listing is up as well https://retrohandhelds.link/35XXH_AE
I assume it doesn't matter whether you buy it from aliexpress or from anbernics official website in terms of delivery and customer service?
usually some differences in shipping cost I think and if you have ali coupons they can be useful.
seems like AliExpress has a better return policy. Free return within the first 15 days. Wouldn't trust Anbernic if I had to return my device 😅
What does this device do better than 351P?
*except firmware availability (may change) and integer scaling gba (will not change)
Way better res for almost everything else though
Yeah, I don't get why some folks care about better screens for GBA (or even DMG) when they're the only systems using that aspect ratio, really
Unless they want a dedicated machine
because gba is an amazing platform
I spend half the time or more on GBA, so I have a hard time with the current 640x480 screens

Does this mean we might not see minui on the Plus ? I am really looking forward to it after setting up minui on the OG 35XX for my brother. Anyways, thanks for your hard work, it's an amazing OS. I wish I knew how to develop these kinds of thing so I could contribute to the community
Those miniscule black bars for gba on a 3.5" 4:3 can't really be that much of a hard time can it? But each to their own
Oh sweet! Minui is so good, I play more games since using it since no distractions lol
Yes
If you are a couple days behind on messages. I suggest you keep reading before just randomly pinging.
I don’t think anyone complains about the black bars, they complain about the poor scaling res
If the 4:3 was 960x720 nobody would care
Ah okay, that makes more sense
We can dream but this res ain't happening 😦
I’d like to see a small pocketable stickless handheld with a 3” 720x480 which does exist
Just as good as 640x480 for 4:3
Basically a v2 MM screen but wider
Would pick that over a 2.8” 320x240 for the #1172563209333526539 even if it came at a $20 premium
This exists?? Is it on any devices or just those odd flip phones
Whatever was the res and size of thst LG Wing secondary display
Does a 640x480 in 2.8" exist?
go right ahead 😂
Probably because i haven't used it in so longggggg
It’s often sold as a fully assembled gba replacement screen kit
I didn't know the replacement gba display was 720x480...
Now I'm really Curious as to why it isn't used? Supply?
Lol new displays for v4? Finally ran outta those bLack berry displays
Maybe
yeah it's a weird resolution now. 750x560
I would totally buy a handheld with a 720x480 screen
Yeah, looks like a great res.
But a 406M with a higher res display would be the winner winner chicken dinner for me
I’d prefer dpad top but if everything else is perfect I’d live
Right, it's the scaling on GBA 640x480 that's an issue not the bars. You can choose between a small integer scale, sharp and uneven pixels, or even but slightly blurry. The best compromise for me seems to be an LCD shader on top of a Normal4x filter.
Everything is even, very slightly blurry, but the LCD shader helps fake the pixel definition.
It's too bad even the 353 takes a performance hit, when using lcd-grid-v2
Yeah lcd grid v2 is a great solution on android handhelds though
If you like that aesthetic
Almost everyone I know hates shaders and wants just the raw pixels
For me it’s pretty system dependent - handheld systems I want the grid though
to me it looks weird, almost like there's more detail with a pixel grid
Crt effects on a handheld are just goofy when it tries to like bend the corners in or whatever but a bit of blending and light scanlines look nice
Even if just to make the single colour backgrounds of the NES not look so empty
yeah i try to find what works for each platform
kinda what i spend the most time setting up at first
i don't like overdoing it either though, i agree
i might keep my odin 1 as a dedicated gba and psp even if it's overkill and big for that
dot is a great shader, and performs well on less powerful gpus. I would perfer dot over grid v2 if it was more balanced. I actually use dot if I can't see the imbalance.
you know what really looks good, is dot on gamegear at 640x480. Now that they fixed the aspect ratio on gamegear cores in retroarch.
Been playing GG Aleste 3, lately and it runs awesome with a emulation cpu overclock.
Nobody is ever happy with what they got when they see their neighbour have something better.
I am more than willing to own one handheld per system I want to emulate if I can get the perfect handheld for a system
Like one handheld per 300-2000 roms is not a bad deal financially imo
And usually you can get one handheld that does more than one system near perfect
I mean we bought one handled for one system when we first bought a Gameboy and so on, for example, so it's not too farfetched
Sometimes the end game handheld can be the same handheld per system though - like a 1:1 screen stickless vertical would be my endgame for GBC, nes, snes all at once
RG arc would slap for neogeo as well as megadrive etc
I’m tempted to try and score a cheap 505 just for psp
Neogeo is great on arc
Although no clicky stick
I’m curious to try a clicky stick at some point but I have my doubts I’d prefer it to my 8bitdo arcade stick or my m30 dpad
Those are my two preferred ways to play neogeo currently - bought the m30 specifically as a way to play metal slug in the late evening without bothering my better half with all the clink clank of an arcade controller
Why not buy a psp or even a vita then?
because original hardware isn't as fun
there's a modded v1 x18s in marketplace for 70usd if you really need something basic for psp
And you can't upscale either of those options. 😅
Or fast forward, which is a must for such an rpg heavy library
So many benefits to not using original hardware.
Anyone with an H want to kick the tires on the new MinUI alpha for the Plus? I assume everything but the sticks will work as is but I’m curious to find out for sure: https://github.com/shauninman/MinUI/releases
What do you have against tires?!
I have the tires, will try in a few hours
You can use the stock TF1
card, reports of its poor quality are
greatly exaggerated
100% agree
the sticks direction and L3/R3 don't work as you expect but everything else seems fine
dpad, face buttons, L1/L2/R1/R2, select/start, menu button, volume and menu+vol brightness control all working
Nice. Thanks for checking!
I'll DM you the stock firmware image if you're interested
Odd to see MinUI with box art
Ohhh that makes a lot more sense
I should've known. That game came with my SNES when me and my brother got our SNES a kids
I was similarly confused at first 😅
Great work @rancid gazelle i'm game to test!
NO tires will be safe!!
Is $55 a good price for this
is that US price before tax and shipping?
Two devices, single sd card image.
@rancid gazelle Bob Wulff asks if MinUI supports N64 or DS
https://twitter.com/RetroHandhelds/status/1743541246344438234?s=19
Nope.
already includes tax and shipping
damn, where? that's awesome
is that some kind of welcome deal? Sounds like a scam price 😄
There’s a $20 voucher in my local ecommerce that’s why
well for that price I would go for it
It’s the official anbernic store too hehe
To France $91.17 🤡
Im stoked my H just got shipped 👍🏼
Now that this is shipping I'll wait for next week when they announce the clambernic lol
Anyone who kicked the tires on the MinUI alpha should update to avoid potential dataloss: https://github.com/shauninman/MinUI/releases
Rip
What's the problem?
95 bucks
95 euros is 104 usd
Just give up your healthcare and move here to enjoy cheaper Handhelds
What's the euro price on Anbernic.com
I usually order Anbernic stuff off their website.
i only bought the 405v off them cause the aliexpress prices were much better for the rest
but not with this one
or i guess i'll have to wait
i'm definitely not paying over 75 for it
Basically the console is not very interesting, at this price even less 😅
Are you sure about this? (You can confirm with the Input.pak in Tools from the extras zip) I'm seeing crazy stuff out of the box. Like: Releasing the F button also releases DPAD UP (but only sometimes). R2 and R3 aren't mapped to any buttons known to the Plus. L2 maps to R2. L3 to L2. PLUS is DPAD DOWN. MINUS is, you guessed it, DPAD RIGHT? 😂
That, uhh... definitely sounds like Anbernic alright.
I ordered two rg35xx h with 5$ newsletter discount. Paypal gives you a terrible rate so I paid in usd and let my credit card do the exchange rate. That way it was 160,21euro instead of 166euro (paypal exchange rate). So 80,10euro per unit is really cool!
I hope there is no additional taxes when it arrives in germany.
oh, not that bad
Looking forward to having the RP4P and this as a secondary device
let me check again, I was playing snes, gbc and genesis with no issues, I didn’t install extras
works okay for me https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2IOP1uD4Fys
What! 😂 Have you updated the stock firmware or anything? These things are cursed 👻
(Thank you for taking the time to test this. So thorough too! 😄)
it’s a stock RG35XX H SD card, unchanged
I saw that anbernic have the firmware on google drive now https://win.anbernic.com/download/360.html
system firmware
Could you tell me the version displayed on your stock?
Mine is RG35xxH-20231219. Kinda hoping yours is newer and not older 😅
mine is the same RG35xxH-20231219
Amazing 😂/😭
I duplicated this card and put the minui files onto it
not sure if that makes a difference?
I'm wondering if it's a gamecontrollerdb.txt thing (although I'm using the joystick API in SDL2 not the game controller one). Or something similar...
This applies to the plus model as well right? I can help with testing once I get mine delivered
yup
Does the Rom/Game partition can resize?
Is it shipped or:
Info Received
Shipment information received
6 Jan, 2024
It says Parcel information received
My arc stayed one week on that status and then it was shipped and took another week to arrive
It's been almost 48 hours with the H and I actually really like it. It's like a slightly bigger version of a Gameboy Micro.
For my plus it took almost 2 weeks.
How did you get it so fast?
Dev work.
Awesome much appreciated.
FYI, with the black edition, use a paint pen and do a single drop on the LED to carefully go around the edges, it will lessen the brightness and you'll get a nice small pin prick sized light which is good enough for midnight playing.
I purchased the crystal white.
Wear sunglasses 😎
There is probably a programmable way to disable the LED, just haven't figured that out yet 🙂
Lol 🤣
You will figure it out.

just noticed that the ppsspp language was set to chinese
Thank you, it has been fixed and re uploaded
echo 0 > /sys/class/power/<battery model I can’t remember rn>/work_led
Still haven’t figured out why the button mappings on my unit are so wrong but at least I don’t have to stare at that stupid light? 😂
Does this offer still stand? (I was going to grab the official Anbernic image but they've exceeded their download quota.)
sure thing I will dm you
I think you have dms off
Haha, yeah. I was getting too many support request DMs. I think it's better to answer those types of questions in public so everyone benefits from the shared knowledge.
I was only trying to send him feet pics, but then he suddenly stopped receiving DMs
Is it possible to modd it like this? I would be interested in this modd
Zeph is an expert at this, I think he did his rgb30 the same way
Mr. Anderson…
Exactly
yes please!
local distributor might’ve made a complaint they upped the price to cover the voucher 🤣✌️
Woah, there are people disabling the battery status light? Does this mean that the battery percentage indicator is perfect on the RG35XX H? It's accurate?
Pretty sure the led and any onscreen ui are pulling battery capacity from the same exact place 😅
So not accurate but not less accurate
Both are "accurate".
Accurate™
@rancid gazelle Is it possible for MinUI to support Graphics Accelerators GPU driver in Future for better N64 & Dreamcast(flycast)
Basics were great for Miyoo as it was low end cpu
Love your minimalist work man
Anything is possible but I have zero interest in those systems so I wouldn’t count on it. 😅
does GarlicOS have portmaster?
or are there any customOS for the rg35xx H where portmaster is available?
portmaster is an arkos project so it would only work with arkos and similar os
ArkOS is based on Ubuntu 19. The Plus and the H are running Ubuntu 18. Might be trivial for someone (else) to get it working.
Well yeah but I guess my answer is wrong. Answer for his question should be, No.
I thought I heard someone checking out the possibility on the Plus
It was @potent igloo who mentioned wanting to include it with muOS
Yay!!! 😃 Your parcel has already been shipped for my NEW ANBERNIC RG35XX H😄
Q? Running under Retroarch selecting a game for PS i noticed all the games are kind of dark?
I'm in!
Though I'm technically getting it for free with credit card cash back program.
When is this chat joining the anbernic category?
I wanted to add that anbernic's check out process included an optional tipping section.
What would I be tipping for? Who would it go to?!
Sweet, mine has been shipped👍🏼
That’s wild
I'm curious if it goes away if you set your currency to something that's not the US dollar, lol
I always assumed that was a default Shopify feature (I think I remember PowKiddy having on too) but it turns out it's not enabled by default 😂
I don’t remember what device it was, but I remember people complaining about it being scammy for preorders of something?
Because some people didn’t notice it defaulted to a certain value
Odin 2 had a huge tip default selected
I saw that and wondered the same.
Ordered on 6th and got shipping notice. Want to find out if I can swap shells and buttons with my RG353M.
Sweet bro I’m happy for you we can’t wait to get ours😃 I believe so you can swap your shells and buttons on the RG 353M 👍🏼
The outside layout and dimensions seem almost identical. Not sure about the internal board layout since I haven't seen any internal images.
Damn it was the Odin 2?
Were people able to retroactively refund/cancel the tips? Or what was the deal with that since I know some people just clicked through quickly and didn’t realize until it was talked about/afterwards
Yeah if you emailed Ayn they took care of it
It was set to like 20% tip by default so the tips were like 50-90 dollars because of how expensive Odin 2s were
And lots of people were rushing to order when preorders opened up so a bunch of people didn't notice the huge tip
Ayn also fixed the issue pretty quickly on their end I think. This was all on the indiegogo campaign site
That’s good at least. Wonder how many people didn’t realize retroactively what the extra charge was if they weren’t in one of these discords
IGG did the same shit, I believe, with the first odin
Do a little bit more research before you start taking apart.
Unfortunately, no way to know for sure unless I open up both devices. I will, of course, test the rg35xxh to make sure it's working before I take it apart.
Thanks for the pic! Going to compare tonight.
Found a pic from reddit (https://www.reddit.com/r/ANBERNIC/comments/11vq2h1/rg353m_dpad_tape_mod) and layout for screw holes seems identical.
Hopefully the board's height won't be an issue with the ports lining up.
Oh shoot, the lcd cable is different width. LCD swap is necessary. Darn.
Aren't the shoulders allegedly different? Thought the marketing video said that
Kind of looks like the actual button switches line up. I was going to keep the 35xxh shoulder buttons
My RG35XX H tracking still hasn’t moved since getting my “about to ship” notification on the 6th.
Welcome to buying devices from China
Yeah not complaining just an observation. Same thing happened with my ARC sourced directly from Anbernic. Took a week to see any movement.
I know that pain, I don't pay attention to shipping until it notifies me it's out for delivery
I can't shipment watch
The trick is to order so many things that you receive something daily anyways so you can distract yourself until what you want actually arrives
Warning: this path leads to debt and bankruptcy
Then rebuilding your credit by using a credit card to buy more in 7 years. Great life plan!
Mine is coming too. 👍🏼
Would love to hear from you whether or not you are affected by false diagonals
All the reviews I have seen showed false diagonal input and it was clear that they were using the old rg35xx dpad, besides TechDweeb's Review. He doesn't seem to have this issue. It might just be pure luck, or it could be that Anbernic only used the old dpad on the review models
Not at all. I'm a casual when it comes to gaming. High latency, low latency, early or late input I don't really care that much hahaha
So "Contra Test" is fine on your device as well?
This is something which drove me nuts on my rg353v
I don't know about fine, it's more of a skill issue for me.
If I hit a button and the character moves or jumps, that's a-ok.
yeah it is about false diagonals. So if you press the down button on the dpad, you would expect your character to walk or face downwards, right? Anbernic is known for its unprecise dpad where when you press the downbutton only and move your thumb slightly to the left or to the right that additionally to the down input a left or a right input gets triggered which makes precise platformers a pain to play
i still don't think the contra test is that serious
i used to like doing diagonals like that when i was a kid and i prefer it that way
35xx dpad definitely was too much since sometimes the side you're pushing into takes priority or something like that and made it worse
definitely a taste thing though
Thanks @potent igloo for your input, though!
@raven coral I am by no means a veteran or an expert on this matter. With most of the games I played I didn't even notice it. But I do like my platform shooters and there in particular, this issue is annoying for me. Also not being able to consistently trigger the items in Castlevania 3 for example is also very annoying. For me this is just something I cannot look over when deciding for a device but of course this is also very subjective. It just depends on what you are used to and what kind of games you prefer
False diagonals are annoying if you’re playing Bomberman. One of my 35xx is just a Bomberman handheld
and Tetris/Dr. Mario
This also. Last second moves will not work with a shitty dpad
My tracking just updated - it's finally on the way.
Just to reconfirm, the Plus or H?
Plus
Yes, because I also like the H and almost bought one but was put off due to the old dpad being used. In TechDweebs review you can see that he has no issues with false diagonals so I was posting here again to see if it is maybe just luck for him or that the retail models actually do get the new dpad as well
And now that I have received the Plus with the new dpad, it will be hard going back, haha 😄
Aren't the dpads the same on the Plus and H?
They look the same based on Anbernic's pics
The Plus dpad isn't in question the H's dpad is.
exactly, @vestal linden
at least all the reviewers besides TechDweeb confirmed the H dpad to be the old rg35xx dpad
Maybe in the review units only?
That is what might be the case and I just wanted to confirm this from people who ordered this device but shipping takes some time 😄
they might be the same hardware. But the hole in the shell can be cut different causing false inputs.
I guess I'll compare when I get my H
I just re-watched Retro Game Corps review and he does mention that dpad diagonal problem was fixed in Plus but is back on H. Hopefully retail units are different.
I will wait for the used market for this handheld.
What it hadokenable and shoryukenable?
It depends on the types of games you play. It’s not going to to matter for like Pokemon or whatever
Oh I see now you were just asking if it’s actually an issue for retail units
Wishfully, I hope the contacts under the DPAD are fixed, they're just using the old model on top.
My DPAD diagonal performance of 35xx h is better than that of 35xx plus
The H is pretty darn good I must say. I'm more of a fan of verticals but the H is very comfortable to hold. Took me a while to figure out the "MENU" button is the "F" button at the top haha
How’s the battery life?
Been playing it on and off during lunch breaks and at night. Got it last Saturday, it's Thursday today, last time I checked it was 43% battery.
Mind you I'm not playing high end stuff. GBA, Megadrive, couple of Arcade games.
Excellent, my sonic games and dr Mario will run nicely.
Mine should be arriving by Friday.
anyone ever compare rg35xxh with rg353ps?
Its the same except design. 👍🏼
ah thankyou 😊
But note same chip,no?
They have exactly the same chip and screen. They have the same emulators and will have the same performance. The only differences are the sticks and the H being horizontal.
Which is great because whatever CFW works on the Plus works on the H and vice versa. No need to develop for two different devices hahaha!
Nope, the 353PS uses a different chip, but with a similar performance
I mean, if you look for a pocketable and comfortable horizontal handheld, the RG353PS is a good contender, although quite bigger than the 35xxh and more expensive. But yeah, maybe they just meant the plus
Yes the plus
Are they any custom firmware for the 35xx H?
Wait the H is out?
it's been out for a few days
only in early alpha stages
I would just stick with the stock os since it is fine actually
just not pretty
until we get some stable garlic, minui etc. releases
I'm getting my device towards the end of January. Hopefully garlicOs is stable by then
Ah, I wouldn't bet on it since unfortunately, Anbernic is quite annoying with their policy on keeping the firmware and source code shut from everyone else which makes it much more difficult for developers to build custom firmware
So it might take a while but at least some newer versions of the cfws might be available which are more feature-rich and stable than the current ones
Just going to wait. Until some is so PO with their device I get it second hand
MinUI is pretty stable at this point.
Ah man, I really want to try it out but I have trouble setting it up
What's the issue?
Which official firmware should I use as the basis os?
I would do a 1-card setup: a 128gb SanDisk Ultra card.
When I flash the official os, only a portion of my 128gb is being used. Will MinUI autoresize the partitions?
I am not too sure where to put the files for MinUI in which partition. It would probably help me to see the folder/partition content of the corresponding places to put the data in in order to identify the corresponding folders
I read the readme for the installation but I guess I am too dumb to properly understand where to put those files 😄
I just use the stock firmware that came on the TF1 card that came in the device. When I insert it (into my Mac) two partitions mount, one is unnamed (which shows as NO NAME in macOS) and the other is named Volumn (sic). (There are 4 other hidden partitions. Ignore those.) The unnamed partition has some folders on it, anbernic, Roms, save, Saves, possibly others. The RG35XX Plus dmenu.bin and your roms go on that partition.
A second card for any userdata (ie roms and saves) is the officially recommended setup but a single card works.
Thanks! And where should I put the MinUI zip file?
Same card.
For the price of the H, you could get an RGB30
So in the same partition folder where the dmenu.bin file goes?
Yup.
Thanks so much, shauninman! Will try it out!
will the partition where the roms and I also guess the bios files go expand when booting up MinUI?
Because I only have 42MB on this partition 😄
Ok, it is working. I can finally boot into MinUI!
I mean fair, I was just curious I must've missed the release day
I'm holding off on either the H or the + until custom OSs are out and stable
No. I'm guessing you still have the stock roms on there taking up all the space?
nope, I uses an image without roms and the "Roms" partition was only 64MB in size
I have resized it to use up my full card and I am copying some ROMs now and will test it then
For BIOS files, I guess I need to create a "Bios" folder next to the "Roms" folder?
Anbernic website says the H supports C2C charger. I'm assuming this means charging with usb-c to usb-c cable?
It does, but ymmv; Taki tested a few, and not all of them worked.
Ok, so resizing the Roms partition will break the system. Cannot boot the device anymore
Is MinUI compatible with this slightly modded firmware?
https://www.reddit.com/r/RG35XX_Plus/comments/190s4xv/firmware_mod_v2/
I don't get it why the official firmware only creates a 64MB Roms partition in the first place
Same here.
Do you have the link?
Aliexpress is expensive now.
Thank you too bad they have 3 colors and you have a choice no card. Or card.
I guess I just wait until my second 16GB sd card arrives and then go with the 2sd card setup
@rancid gazelle I guess with the 2 card setup the Roms, saves etc folders go onto the 2nd card as well as the dmenu file and the MinUI.zip file?
dmenu.bin goes on TF1 on the partition we talked about. Everything else goes on TF2 (as noted in the included readme).
Thank you very much for your help!
