The SP is over 20 years old, and that’s for the release. The patent for the design was probably made even earlier, so it’s now at least expired for just the hardware.

I’m on Team “close the device for Sleep-Mode”. RG35XX SP has already shown it has the sensor/trigger for sleep mode (where even if the stock one doesn’t work well, cfw will still be able to finish the rest in making sleep mode work properly), and since the Miyoo Flip is using sticks instead of Sliders (which is the one thing that would’ve made me potentially ignore the lack of a closed lid sensor), I’m definitely all in for the SP.
