when nintendo was lowkey pioneering analog stick controls for their next console they werent actually sure third party developers would want to use it since it was so new

But it still bugs me that they didn't just make a control pad where you can use both. The dual shock/analogue PS1 pads managed this absolutely fine. Heck, even the Saturn managed it, and the Saturn didn't exactly have a huge array of AAA 3D titles needing a stick.

Also, the analogue PS1 pads came out 12 months after the N64's Japanese launch. The Saturn 3D pad came out at the same time as the N64 launch, explicitly because Sega saw the N64 pad, and thought, oh, we had better do one. Both those pads came out mid way through the consoles lifetime. So why Nintendo never bothered to update their pad is a mystery to me.

could be because the 405m dissipates heat better through its shell, it could be that it actually doesn't need the fan and everyone will just turn it off like they do on the flip, it could be the vertical arrangement means the screen will get too hot without it

we won't know until some reviewers mess with the fan settings and check out some temps

that and too high of a price are the only remaining hesistations I have here

(we don't know price yet, I just mean the two things that could make me sit this out)

like if this is $130 and the fan is really just there for GC/PS2 boundary pushing I'm in, if it's $155 and the fan has to run the whole time to not bake the screen I'm out

to make the fan even work, you had to open up the device and remove the metal obstructing it. the operation leads to a 10 degree fahrenheit drop in tempereture at the base setting

And yeah that's fair! If it doesn't help performance my recommendation is also leave it off, unless it can help high temps during PS2/GC then I think its worth it, feels like a stronger fan compared to the Flip

Yeah I think it's better than the Flip. I have a section in the video where I talk about the fan and why it's there. It's either to a) provide a benefit to the customer (like improve performance), which is what they claim in their marketing/unboxing video, or b) to avoid a problem like overheating. Given that it doesn't seem to improve performance, my money is that it is there to avoid a problem 🙂
