#Retroid Pocket 2S

greeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeen
Yeah the presence of a green shell made me way more interested in this lol
No joke probably raises the amount I’m willing to pay by $10 for having green and indigo
it does look cute and make me want an RP2 again
though if my RP2 and vita didn't die, i wouldn't have moved up to my current stuff
Hopefully they announce price soon, I don’t think I can justify this and a max 3 so unless I make a decision on this I’m gonna order that max 3 soon I think
specs and price indeed
chances are there will be a huge overlap between what this and the max3 can do
Actually that's a real question..
They charged an extra $5 for Clear Purple and Blue...
Are they gonna do the same here?
probably
Exactly. Max 3 has a better screen (especially for gba, psp, and ports) but no wifi or touchscreen
kind of like there's huge overlap between the win600 and XP Plus for emulation, especially if you dive down the exagear rabbit hole
But will run the same stuff
If they go like really cheap on this with a t310 I might buy one for my brother though
Like rk2023 wifi cheap
Since he is very much an android guy
They are moving this announcment along quite fast... specs and price tomorrow?
Max 3 is probably the better choice.
Probably for me
The touchscreen is the one killer feature on this though
For DS
And the green shell
wait, does RP2S got touch screen? I don't got a RP2+ , is there touch screen there?
2+ had one yeah
The base 2 did not
So I’m assuming this has one
Android without one would be a hard sell I think
I love it
this is lining up to be the horizontal handheld I have been waiting for.
It has my incredibly hyped lol
@short hare reviews are the bee's knee. top notch. bu-ti-full.
ayo
still my favorite shell colour
Gladiator meme: "Are you not entertained!!!"
Russ is the James Hoffman of retro gaming
when zu took the rk2023 and twisted it till it started to pop, crack, and break all I could think was YES, YESSS. MOOOREEEE.
we need the bite test. like have a dog or a teething toddler bite down and shake the unit around to show if it can handle -real life-
the Tangula T700, T610, 612, and 616 are all 1.8ghz processors
Yup, but only the T610 has Geekbench entries with a ums512_1h10 motherboard. I'm not aware if that's compatible with the other chips
welp, nothing new here. same family. same 1mb L3 performance as the t618.
Slightly cheaper to buy maybe
What is NM on the T610?
if they stepped up to the next unisoc family, even the cheapest chip (the t750), you'd get a 3mb L3 bandwidth and unlock all of gc and wii. not ps2 entirely, but eh.
The T310 and T618 were 12 nm why the upgrade was so easy for retroid.
from what? geek benchmark?
where did that information come from?
It is a Geekbench page. No idea where the person got it from
taki probably is sitting on a prototype. he gets these units sometimes a year in advance
I just want to say that the design of this handheld is really good if I was in the market for this size I would buy one. Unfortunately I consider the screen too small and don't want anything smaller than 5 in
Taki didn't post it though , someone else did
Oh it is a 12nm size also. Might be a t610
thought so. sometimes it is a database error on the benchmark website itself. could be right or maybe it is something else.
The T610 is just a T618 with lower clock speeds and a slightly older instructions set I believe
Nearly the same chip
same thing happens with cpu id, new versions gets updated with it's static database of cpu chips.
same family, but nerfed to be put in a lower budget phone/tablet
slight downgrade in chip, if it comes with a cheaper price tag might be good for this device.
Dpad up top enjoyers prob want to play older, less demanding systems.
If you want to play more demanding systems, they typically would prefer joystick uptop no?
Looks like T618 graphics is much better
I more asking about the socket size. When it is the same, they will have to do little to the existing PCBs keeping cost down. Hopefully being passed to the end user.
They seem to be the same, so just a drop in. Hoping this keeps it around $100
let's look at the gflops
This thing needs to be $120 or less
identical scores, but other benches are slightly different
https://gadgetversus.com/processor/unisoc-tiger-t618-vs-unisoc-tiger-t610/
I'd say $130
nerfed by lower clockspeed. oof
mostly by this. lower igpu. cpu processor is very close
Hey T610 means possible $130 pricetag for decent performance
6-22% slower on depending on the test. I guess its not -that- far behind.
This was interesting. T618 has better power management?
The good thing is you can run ppsspp in arbitrary aspect ratios now.
0.83 looks best on 640x480.
$120 would be a good price for this if it's a t618, if it's downgraded I'd expect even cheaper
it needs to be discounted from the RP3+ for having a cheap screen then again for having a cheap SoC imo
Honestly I’d just look for even better n64, but being a gimped t618 will hurt those who were looking for gc/ps2 at 4:3. At least the 405m exists
But I would expect a cheaper price now if this is the case
agree
if this is under $100 I might get it just as a dedicated n64 machine in transparent green
With its layout, I’ve actually been wanting n64 and below with dpad up top. I’d pay 120 or so tbh
nope, only a way to adjust the camera while stretching the ui. it's a neat feature. makes devices like the rgb20s and rg351v good for psp
in the case of hard games like Phantasy Star Portable 1 & 2, rendering less on the horizontal edges gives you enough fps to avoid audio stutter and enjoy games that once were unplayable
in arkos its not in the graphics menu, but the outer game menu when you hit pause in the emulator
the newest android ppsspp has it too
hmmm... lemme open up my s20
on the xp plus, i got it to 20x9 without any distortion
what device are you using? rg405?
I think the rp2+ works better for N64 with stick on top and the slider is great fot the C buttons.
true but the used market here sucks
Oh
even in the off chance I do find one it'll cost me as much as buying this new I think
interface looks like this(removes foot from pic)
#914933667128803358
we're talking about if the rp2s will be good for custom aspect ratio psp
i don't think full 4:3 will look right, because there's -some- squishing/stretching, but you can get it somewhere between 3:2 and 4:3, with minimalized black bars. should be fine for the screen. works fine on the rgb20s
hrm. weird
might be working against your full screen resolution then
when you're on 640x480, it has a sort of zooming effect
psp2 for instance with no distortion
Idk if this is reliable, there is no source quoted
100% not reliable, but it's an image floating around
basically, it's like trying to emulate on 2nd gen intel
At least it's a jump from the t310 in the rp2+
i hear you like no change in single core gaming.
So here's a theory on their "everything old is new"
Rp2s is a t610
Rp2s plus could be a d900
it's going to be slightly better in gamecube, twice as great in ps2
Ps2 playability?!
but not as great as the t618, which still wasn't that great.
either way this goes, this is hype as hell
It's a 6nm chip Ina 12nm space
d800 would be better, tbh. same chip family so probably the same prices
max speed N64 with PEFECT ACCURACY
But for a d800 soc you need a good screen ratio
Rp2s is what? A 3:2? 4:3?
2s+ better have a 5.5
the companies are stuck on 4:3 and 16:9
A 16:9 would be ideal
nah. people wanted pocketable gamecube and ps2 with the 2+ and got it, sort of.
you can't go from that to "lol look it's switch sized" without pissing off that crowd
I love the RP3/+ screen size
just remember. we're a tiny subset of gamers
So can it run pokemon Gale of darkness then?
potentially
ogu can, so why not. it's about 15-20% weaker than the rp2s
Naruto clash of ninjas 2?
credit the ogu/rgb10max3 have versions of dolphin/citra compiled specifically for their soc
Super Mario sunshine oh baby
Really we won’t know anything till things are actually finalized tbf lol
without analog triggers?
Oh... right
pfff who needs analog triggers
Digital is the way then
you could probably fudge together a control config to make it work
L3 and r3 is the way
That clear green shell makes it an auto buy for me
Even if a 2S+ comes out eventually
NGL I hate the fact Retroid went back to the Brick with Buttons design. I'm not buying this because the ergonomics are terrible.
Hrm, do I buy this one, or do I buy your clear green 35xx lol
It's a mission to grab that transparent green
Thinking of purple transparent buttons to compliment it like a victor von doom
thanks for that input. there are many other channels for things you like.
I unno there's been a demand for a new rp2 styled console
And a lot of people actually liked their rp2+s outside of some certain things like top analog and slider right analog
If this isn't a t618 then I'm going to have to wait for reviews on this one.
I'm wondering if this will be more powerful than the TrimUI Smart Pro?
Is GBA (3:2) for the rp2s (3.5” screen at 4:3) comparable to the rp3/+ (4.7” at 16:9)? I would pull up retrosizer but it’s blocked at work and a trainwreck to use on mobile
Estimate is currently T610 which is between the 310 and 618

I wish the smart pro was at least a t618 because the design looks good.
That would've been a nice handheld but I feel it might've sunk amongst a sea of other T618 hamdhelds
Buttons will be so loud
it is what it is. people wanted the 2+ to be more powerful, and they got it
the motherboard reveals what the processor is. it's going to be the little brother of the t618
where on the mobo?
I wish I could get excited for this, but my eyes can no longer enjoy a 3.5" screen for anything but GB, GBC, GG, NGP, etc.
the motherboard chosen(ums512_1h10_Natv) fits the same family as the t618, but only has max speed cpu support for 1.8ghz. that narrows it down to only 4 processors.
the tangula t700 or a nerfed t610/612/616 will all work
but all are pretty weak
I did the math on this on paper. You’re looking at 2.3x3.45 on the rp3/+ and 1.9x2.8 on the rp2s.
I might buy this as a dedicated gcn and gba device. Assuming gcn is palatable (I have a low bar tho)
yep all 12nm SOCs. don't know much about the t700
I have a 3.5" 35XX and an RP3+, and it's a fairly big difference. The 3+ is probably the best thing to play GBA on right now. The X55 is bigger but probably doesn't have the horsepower to run LCD filters if that's your thing.
what'd you use to make this?
Visual size comparison of a 4.7 inch 16x9 display vs 3.5 inch 4x3 display
power may not be worth writing home about, but it's still in that happy space where you can noodle with settings and get decent gamecube/wii/3ds performance.
For the T700 ?
yeah, or any of those.
The All-New ALLDOCUBE kPad is an awesome budget Android tablet with a great budget price of $130 but is it any better than the 2021 Amazon Fire HD 10? Let's find out!
In this video we do an unboxing, test some video playback run some benchmarks, Test some android games like Minecraft, COD Mobile, and Genshin impact plus by the end of this video ...
pocket genshin impact. this thing is going to be weeb-core.
T610 and $99 it's a winner
God yes
then the other companies would have to scramble again to try and get something to compete
@potent eagle It's a bit of a waste but yeah I've been reading around. People actually want a more powerful Brick with Buttons on it.
I think this model might get a plus model with a higher power chipset at a beefier price to satiate those folk
I just want more of that RP2+ magic that captivated me
I need all the info stat
The price of this is gonna be the biggest factor
:OO whats wrong with russ review? i always thought his are usually more indepth and detailed
it might be a case of it's not in depth enough
dang icic
and knowing KirbyToast, yeah they want all the deets with no fluff
he's one of the rare ones that talk about tbe buttons and feels, hardly seen others talk about it
He’s actually very good for the average consumer. Probably the best all around reviewer
I just can't watch a 40 min video of people playing the first level of games over and over again.
for someone who hasnt own a rh yet (me), thats what i thought
anything performance related is just a review of the cpu anyways. whats more impt imo was the hardware, button, and any crap loaded in androidOS
but i guess thats just my view hahah
like the kt r1 review, he mentioned that he kept accidentally pressing the Home button, i thought that was an important dealbreaker for some, which others dont talk about
He gives you a very good look at the overall picture and what it means to him as a user. Like he will just say, oh GameCube actually doesn’t feel that good here, or how much he loves a device, the nitpicks, etc
icic
There also once you have a couple handhelds you get idea of what you like and some people have a different preference.
hahah, i do that on my own phone too (android custom roms)
having custom roms are always a major plus, no matter the device
I'm too much of a coward to do that with my phone
I did do it once with a kindle fire 7 to slap Android 11 Go on it
ive done it for years - cant live without it anymore 🤣
must at least see the magisk app on my phone hahahah
Yeah I couldn’t do a custom rom in my own phone, I would be too worried about security
but cheapo android tablet that has a bulky ass default ROM, YEET
Maybe I will see what custom roms are out there for a TAB 4
fair point hahah
I’m out of the loop, but keep seeing reference to Taki creating the RP3. I saw he had a video on this. Why is it keep getting brought up?
Really just a funny joke to keep up with haha
So a theory here, if we get a t610 in rp2, what would be the next chronological order of SoC would be next? A T818?
T820 is currently Unisocs highest end chip.
But like
It's really new
This is a list of UNISOC (formerly Spreadtrum) processors for use in smartphones, tablets, laptops, smartwatches and other devices.
The T820 is a slightly juiced T770
it's a psych thing. people more readily move on empathy content than empirical content, and when a review is filled with "feature X makes me happy. feature Y makes me unhappy," it feeds into the general insecurity of the massmind to make a decision on a utilitarian level. sometimes he makes people overlook really bad imperfections or good qualities in a device as a result.
It's a farcry from the neutral grey content of Tech Dweeb or ETA PRIME who treat every device they review more or less the same. (EMULATION BEAST!) They force the reviewer to go over the data and figure out if they like a device, more or less rather than pulling viewers long by the empathy carrot on a stick.
hmm ic. i always felt ETA Prime's video are much more hyped. like he's trying to sell me the product instead of a proper review
He's incredibly good at it, and deserves no less praise for his channel.
Tech Dweeb actually invoked a Russ rage-textwall in his RP3 tinkering vid.
the screen cap is still floating around here someplace.
hahahah
it was this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jo0SYXHqeDQ&ab_channel=TechDweeb
There is an ugly rumor floating around that the Retroid pocket 3 isn’t good for PSP. IT’S A LIE I TELL YOU! This thing is a GREAT PSP machine, as long as you choose the right settings. What are those secret settings that will let you run ANY psp game at good framerates and 2x resolution? Well I’m gonna tell you. In this video. So uh, yeah, let’s...
first comment, just... yeah
back to this, while i would agree russ's video is more empathy type, i don't think ETA prime's video feels neutral grey. it feels more of a showcase (everything is good, everything is perfect, hide all flaws and dont show them) to me
icic, thanks hahah
i guess its the formula. he gets flak for selling every device with the exact same buzzwords, tone of voice, nitpicked sequences etc. when everything is special, nothing is special
maybe, and i think its fine
i get to see lots of device from his showcases
but its far from neutral hahah
imo
lots.... his basement is reallly full
gotcha cover everything under the sun xDD
i do enjoy his content tho
its juz, i wont make a purchase from the info i get from him, its not enough
i think Wicked Gamer is the closest to neutral content.
havent seen him b4, may check hin out sometime hahah
(throws cardboard box in front of camera) PACKAGE FROM CHINA
his content is very random too. its usually just whatever game happens to be on the tip of his mind:

Retroid Pocket is back with the new upgraded addition and yest is a great piece of tech. Only how will it be in 2023 what will be the next thing ?

like what is this first sonic game he's playing?
Lets wait for the 2S+
So what’s the chip comparable to the 2S?
All I'll say is, if you're on the fence about the ergonomics, don't jump on this.
Could not believe how uncomfortable the 2/2+ was.
I'm in the opposite camp on that, I really like the ergonomics on the RP2/+
tho I have Medium/small-ish hands
Oh yeah, you've been wanting an RP2+ Again
yes
How's this one make you feel
I'm hyped as hell that they haven't totally abandoned this formfactor
So am I, it's gotta be like the same size honestly
it looks to be just about the same size
Yeah
That Vita style d-pad
S tier D-pad
that green is calling me too
The green is calling a lot of people it sounds like
I have little worries about the software, it's hardware and their shipping I'm worried about
not the cost
Speed?
I haven't had any issues with em yet
What’s the comparative chip that another console has? Is this info known yet?
we only have theories on what chip is in it
the main theorized chip is the T610
which I guess would be just uhh, I can't really think of how to gauge this one
"old is new again"
isn't that just the Retro handhelds catchphrase?
I vote for @tired sky for neutral content. one example is his review of razer edge
https://youtu.be/2MH6_j49Z_g
👉 Join me as we take a look at Razer's new "Ultimate Android Gaming Handheld," the Razer Edge. The Edge takes a different approach to handhelds by introducing an update to the Razer Kishi paired with a phone-like tablet that has a 6.8" AMOLED 144Hz display. It is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon G3x Gen 1 mobile processor, which holds some mys...
WOAH
And that price is perfect. What are those CPU specs, T618?
I know very little about chips and stuff, what is this comparable to? What other device is similar?
Is it T610?
RP3+ specs:
Processor: Unisoc Tiger T618
CPU: 2 * [email protected] + 6 * [email protected]
GPU: Mali G52 MC2@850MHz
may be one of this?
T610
What can that chip emulate up to?
Possibly Game Gear
HOLY SHIT YALL
If you're feeling Spicy Lynx
WAITAMINUTE. Launch is NEXT WEEK?
July 25th!
T618 FOR THAT PRICE
Tempting. Very tempting
HOLY SHIT
T610
I AM SO SO SO BUYING ONE
But similar
You sure?
It's T610
Oh
That's the RP3+ specs
Yeah, straight from the site for RP3+
HELL YEAH
Same price as the RP2+ and you're getting twice as many cores
I was compairing specs
RP2S will be slightly slower
No but really anyone got any idea on what it can emulate up to?
I nailed these guesses
rp3+ but like 10% slower
prolly
Around that yeah
That's pretty good for a $50 drop
A bit less GC and PS2
Plus it has Hall Sensors and Analog Triggers
for reference?
I’m so fucking hyped right now
I don't know...if too many people already have T618 devices this might not be tempting
outclassed the rp3+, outclassed the rg503, outclassed every rk3566, outclassed the OGU and the rgb10max3.... welcome to the endtimes fellas
Yeah, I'm getting one
Same
I can't not get one
i might get that transparent green one
Because Samsung gave me a refund for my S23 Ultra
I am thinking will there be limited color for $99 one
So I can buy the RP2S, and my new phone
sports red /s
all I care about is getting those Skittles buttons
I’m getting the $119 one
this is the jesus handheld to lead pocket gamers out of the trench
I actually think I'll just get a black 128
GREEN
Because I had a 15bit RP3+ I sold to @neon cedar
It's like an all-star version of the RP2+, RP3+, and Flip
GREEN!
I’ll buy whatever colour the next person says
The REAL frog handheld
red
WITH THE BEST FRONT FACING SPEAKERS
debating indigo or green
NO RED. 0/10
wompwomp
Ahem
Indigo is tempting
If it came in yellow, I'd be perfect
Indigo is really nice, have an RP2+ with that
Ugh I gotta have the gay buttons
Indigo for me because that's what my RP2+ was
Aka the skittles buttons
i wish they had the pink rp2 shell
I'll trade ya then
i would instantly buy a pink one ngl
I’ll just get the 16bit one lmfao
There used to be a Pink RP2
what about, Glow in the dark transparent?
I assume the sticks are joycon sticks with custom caps
yeah thats what im talkin abt
I would so buy that
Interested to see how they are
From what I can tell
Yellow and Pink weren't popular sellers
I mean it’s not SD 8 Gen 2
that sucks 💔
Yellow orange mac and cheese thing
cheese handheld
Hrm, good looking controls
Hell perfect gift idea for my friend
Me and 2 of my friends have birthdays in September
So guess what’s the perfect gift for one of my nerdier friends
What makes this outclass the max 3 for you?
@neon cedar Would love this
Easy buy of the green color at that price
Joey what colour are you getting?
I can only get so excited my dude
Green
before I explode into glitter
not gonna lie. the rp2 was my first love. played it till it broke
16bit here
I’m very torn between this and the max 3 personally
Or skipping both to upgrade my deck ssd lol
revist Taki's first in-depth review of the RP2. it'll bring back that nastalgia
playing on a rp2+ literally rn
My first Android handheld was also the RP2+
Same
Yup, T610
Taki's RP2 video was the first thing I ever saw in the emulation handheld space, so the device has a special place of nostalgia for me
same
rgb10max3 has ingenuity behind it sure. everything in jelos is tailormade and custom compiled for the soc, so it does some amazing stuff, but this is tiny and does the same thing
Now how am I supposed to go to sleep after hearing this news
i dunno. load up the retrobong or something
looks like it'll still be a 4:3 screen though
and guessing still no info on resolution either?
4k 60
Dude I’m so so happy
</s>
The analog triggers are kinda weird given the systems this will play but hall sticks and good n64 performance at this price in transparent green is probably gonna sell me here
Also don't forget these are Hall Sticks!
Good N64 performance? this is near perfect N64 performance just because of those few warts (GoldenEye and Perfect Dark
BRUH we have native Super Mario Sunshine support
Native?
hall trigger if I read that speclist correctly
This being a t610 I didn’t think it would do gc well though
I’d love to be wrong on that
it'll be dodgy here and there but ultimately it should be able to handle a lot just fine
But if it can run 60fps sunshine that’s a big bonus
Otherwise I’d rather just play sunshine on my deck
fair
It'll do less GC than the RP3+ BUT more than the RP2+ for sure
hey I played Tak on the Rp2+ and it was a tolerable experience IMO
at 80% resolution scale but still
ok for the price this is quite nice
I need to ask
Does the RP2s name make sense?
RP2
RP2+
RP2s
And gives budget minded customers an awesome choice for a $100 handheld
RGRP2XXPS
what is S mean....
Sequel?
RP2MAXPRO would be better
Sex because it's just as good
SUPER
Yee
S is for Same then
Well it’s ever so slightly different
its super for me I dont care
Retroid Pocket 2 Same
It’s perfect for what I’m looking for
Super fits for me considering all the upgrades
A decent handheld to toss in my bag and play when I’m between classes
I have a two hour break between one of my classes
So why not play something like Pokèmon Sapphire or stream Forza Horizon 5 on Game Pass
Some more info for you folks
Screen Res is 4
XD
...what does that mean?
4 is better then 3 obvously
It was a typo
Baba is you
A funny one at that
Any word on what the metal version will look like (two tone or single color)?
Not yet
4:3?
Yeah, just like on RP2+
i like the color options a lot
Baba is You
You is Excited
Screen Res is 4
Retroid Pocket is 2s
This is one of the best budget devices I've seen in a while
Would have gone hard for this if it had a 4" screen. Ah, well. It still looks like a great deal for the price.
To think:
Better Screen
Analogue Triggers
Hall Effect Sticks
Unisoc T610
All for $99
This is a banger
And will definitely sell well
You're so going to bed staring at a picture of this thing
so what's this got as an equivalent for existing handhelds?
I’m smitten what can I say
The RP2+ holds a special place in my heart
if I get this it will only to have a green or indigo device, I dont really want another 3.5" device... but this is cute
I will buy this and the KTR1 at the same time and see which one shows up first
Knowing Retroid this is going to take 3-5 business WEEKS to show up
And I’m ready for it
4000mAh battery gyat
the date is to start selling?
get ready lads
I’m so ready
yeah, but thats the day to pre order?
.
My divination here is that the “typo” is that they put in the weight of the metal version
Probably right
i can assure it will not be the ktr1
meant to reply to this lol
Correction: weight is 200 not 270, screen is 640x480 450 nits.
We'll see if they ship mine before everyone else's again
Miyoo cough
Dang, I am actually having a hell of a time deciding between this or the max 3. On one hand I already have loads of 3.5” 4:3 handhelds, on the other hand I already have an ogu. On one hand I have no android handhelds, on the other hand the OGU kinda sucks in ways the max 3 fixed
Reviewers will definitely get their units first
Indeed
Ah. You should be
get both!
Joey*
I am excite
So am I
4" ????? BOOOOOOO
can we get these pinned?
My ADHD is off the charts
I am very happy
A decent portion of my q3 hobby budget is allocated to armored core 6, starfield, baldur’s gate 3…
Thanks Stubbs
yeah same boat lol
So Dome or Membrane?
Also I got to say
Corrected specs pic
Start and Select are in a smart place
i mean, we already guessed the soc from the motherboard leak
This announcement actually has me wishing I hadn’t upgraded my desktop ssd via prime day lol
if it's like the RP3+ membrane buttons and dome D-pad
Unlike a certain handheld cough RP3/3+ cough
glances in hands shuush you
You know I’m right
yeah
I think there is not much handheld can worse than RP3 in the position of start and select
it's the most boneheaded decision of the whole design
I'm going to buy this and three weeks later anbernic will release a 405p
Well knowing you you’ll buy both
like Start you can reach over the R1 button but Select you have to stretch far too much
405p with more color options would be really nice right now
Along with the RP Flip
405p would probably be 50% more money, no hall sticks, and shaped like a neogeo pocket though
Hey! The Neo Geo Pocket is comfy
with a 4" screen, this will lose the pocketability
Same with the 2DS
the 405M has big sleek appeal
😦
Not for me!
Tall guy + long pants = deep pockets
res is 4 tho
it's cool. i have my dsi and s20 + sling bag for the iopega. my feelings aren't hurt
I can fit a Switch OLED in my pocket just fine
I think a 4" screen would make it hard to fit in some of the pockets in my jackets
Pulls a 19” gaming laptop out of my JNCOs
I stg
bruh
19"?
wtf
how lost in the sauce are we?
Pulls out Air Fryer from my basketball shorts Try me bitch
pulls out camp stove from shoulder bag
you can fit a few devices in the airfryer
Holy shit with the announcement this looks like a fucking winner
this is reaching Datafrog levels of hype, but not nearly Miyoo P60 hype
Saggin Baggin Barry?
pulls out 5 course meal with table from backpack
honestly this coming in at $99 is huge
no sailormoon crossover hype here yet
Very
Hey at least this thing is real
Instant fucking buy
That’s what I’m saying
I buy for colors
$20 extra to get a big enough EMMC to not need a microSD at all
No thoughts to be had I’m buying this easy
hmmmm
Take my fucking money
I'll still need a 256gb card
I’m going to stimulate the FUCK out of the economy on the 25th
How much ram does the 3+ have?
4gb
Yeah the 4 is a no brainer
4gb I think
4 GBs
I have no idea if the 3 vs 4 gb ram is gonna matter for anything at all though
maybe some android native games you wont want to play in 480p anyway
For $20 with the extra storage and ram, easy
Multitasking and some consoles favour the extra gig
the real question is who can get through all of Honkai Impact on a 4" screen?
I will
T610*
4 so I don’t need an sd card
I haven't tested it on the RP3+
yeah I mean it doesn't even run that well on a 618, meaning it DEFINITELY won't on a 610
Genshin didn't run well
I think Honkai is a harder game to run than genshin
Tbf my iPad Pro can barely run Genshin at times
IIRC
This will be a banger for n64 and below
And I have an M2 iPad Pro
Hype levels exploding
And PSP, hell some light GC and Wii too
This is a hit
A smash hit

just like it's elders before it
bad screen for PSP for me
at least it runs
PSP is actually the main point in favour of the max 3 for me RN
I don’t mind it
Don’t care we got a WINNNAHHH
I want to see how Project Diva 1 and 2 fun
This
GBA is fine on this screen
Same with PSP
We put Unisoc Tiger T618 against Tiger T610 to find out which SoC is better. See performance comparison in benchmarks and games.
Yeah it’s not the best
Gba yes 100%
But it’s fine
I have two 3.5" 640x480 devices already, I don't love PSP on them. GBA is "ok"
a little grungy compared to the integer scaling I get on the OGU
i can be excited for this even if i don't have a spot for it on my shelf.
Don’t care n64 gang playaaaaaaaa
GBA on a 3.5" 4:3 screen is perfectly fine
too much high powered stuff in my arsenal
AYOOOO LETS GOO BRO
I would not even put psp games on this tbh, but for n64 and DC it should be perfect
yeah I'm trying to determine whether I would feel guilty for buying one of these knowing I would probably only use it for n64
psp would be fine with custom aspect ratio set to 0.8
I’ll finally delve into the N64 library on this
would basically be 3:2
N64 will be my use case here as well
isn't that what your 405m is for 😉
I’m getting it for all Nintendo consoles up to GC, all Sega consoles up to DC, and PS1 and PSP
I want a 405m but it's too much $$$ for basically just n64
those sticks will serve the n64 vert well
100%
this mogs the 405m
God I’ve never been this hyped for a handheld since the Odin
Hell I might be even more excited for this
I feel attacked
I’m so in love with this silly little handheld
And I just stumbled upon it while watching YT in the morning like I usually do
I miss this box fella
i dunno now. between this and the 353v....
If this is real, I'm interested but I probably won't end up getting it
it is definitely real
That's so banger
no brainer this tbh
the metal version is a bit expensive but if its black it would be a nice little heavy brick
VS/PS I think have a place still but V/P as android devices? get outta here
Buying second 1 it’s available
Hopping back on etsy to see if that one person selling RP2 skins is still there
It’s real
And it’s only $99
So this is probably a obviously tech noob question but i have a Retroid Pocket 2+ would this be a good pick up for an upgrade? I primarily use mine for n64 & PSX but I would love to play some PS2 and GC would that be likely with the given specs or do we still not know enough?
I wouldn't buy this for GC/PS2
Even the 99$ model will be solid if you legit only care about n64 and below
I wouldn't even buy a t618 for GC/PS2 tbh
This would be a good upgrade, but not for PS2 or GC/Wii
the low down with this is the same low down with the rgb10max3/ogu. only play gc/ps2 if you don't mind tinkering
Likely wouldn’t be enough of an upgrade if you want the sensible thing to do, but you can likely sell the rp2+ and get this at a discount if you want the yolo answer
Though if you have a good PC you can use Moonlight to stream emus from there
Banger day for people who love. boxes
For $99 again, it’s worth upgrading
Fair enough that’s wasn’t the make it or brake it for me so I might still pick it up I appreciate the response. I much prefer the arrangement of the buttons and the design of the control sticks
Even for the sticks
the ogu is the perfect 16x9 GTA: Vice City game while you poop console for 111usd
And the triggers
hrm, buy this for n64/dc and continue to use the OGU for PSP/GBA or get a max 3 for all four of those systems...
Noticed that they're both sticks this time
Dude rp2+ was one of my favorite styles too, so much character. Perfect day lol
Actually I just realized the RP2 skins on etsy have the stick on top. I forgot the old ones do that
this is the perfect game while you poop double-dash console
This is the perfect “toss in your bag for when you have a break between classes” handheld
Which is what I’m looking for
These chips are very similar. It doesn't seem like it'll be much difference when it comes to emulation.
Damn, $99 isn't a bad price at all. If I were a weaker man, I'd buy it in a heartbeat and figure out how to make it a companion to my 3+
Two of my friends have the RP3+
And both are buying the RP2S
It’s cheap enough or say screw it
Would gladly toss the money down right now lmao
Do they also have a Mini though?
Same
Like a mini handheld?
this is the mini?
Miyoo Mini
Neither does Miyoo
The level of hype in this room is crazy. Lol
I was about to buy a Miyoo Mini and Miyoo Mini+ bundle from the marketplace
But then Retroid drops this
now I’m thinking about the Colleen Ballinger video
I'll just wait a month or two when 2S is out... Just in case 2S+ comes out
So the next Retroid handheld after this will go on sale in September or October?
I kinda wish this had inline shoulders instead of the big analogs tbh
or at least smaller stacked digital triggers
I prefer stacked shoulders
like the 353ps
I’ll just buy both
Also why is this still in the rumor mill... it should have a dedicated channel by now
Q4 for RP 4 supposedly
And that vertical yellow Retroid we are told is not real
I think lately things have just been going from thread in rumor mill to actually released
But next year they might do a a vertical
i need at least another year before i get another handheld. my XP Plus needs to pay for itself in blood, sweat, and tears
I'm trying to hold firm to actually beating at least a few games on each handheld I already own before buying more
but this and the max 3 are testing that
XD
I think I'm going to try and hold back from the hype although it'll be hard and wait until the end of the year to buy anything.
if my rgb20s decided to sell itself to some newb though....
Due to my PC Build needed to be built
yeah, i got my pc-building out of the way recently too
I say as I preorder several more handhelds
for me.... the RP2+ is still solid and although i want that extra bit of omph for saturn and such
i just dont think i want another 3.5" 4:3 device
i may still buy it
Yeah, it’s not for everyone
At the same time
It’s priced too well to not be for everyone
for me i really want my next device for PSP since those are the games i reverse and mess around with
Possibly save for the RP3+ in that case
Toss in the extra for the hall sticks and you’re set
The RP3+ isn’t that much more and performs much better
not only did I just do this, I went way over budget
Hence why I recommended that
thats everyone on pc building
I’m trying to stick to my budget of $1300 before tax
So far so good
Gyat DAYMN
but thats because i prioritized cpu/ram
i set my budget to like 500usd and got a 5600g tower with nvidia graphics
i need cpu/mem more than gpu
I am waiting for the win mini
NOW, for 500, you can get a 10th gen with rtx3000-series prebuilt on aliexpress
so my build is a 5950x, 128gb ram and 6700xt
Part List - AMD Ryzen 5 7600X, GeForce RTX 3060 12GB, NZXT H5 Flow ATX Mid Tower
no thanks to the pc market crashing
With tweaked settings the RP3 will play almost all psp without frame skip.
Or an AMD Equivalent
honestly wish I had just said screw it and went win max 2 and g1
that's a choice
none taking... the build is because its my workstation
its overkill for 99% of people
but hey
This is perfect for me
I already have a 144hz monitor, 1000hz polling rate keyboard, and a nice mouse
Plus I totally legally obtain my Windows keys
my actual tower is good but everything outside the tower is still mostly straight garbage
So I only need the tower
I'm buying you a new graphics card
LOL
my minisforum 3400g is sort of that nuc-style pc i pull out of the closet every so often if i just want to play Stranger to Paradise or something on the big screen
$20 keyboard, 14 year old 60hz 1080p monitors that don't even have HDMI let alone display port (converting from displayport to hdmi to dvi-d, lmao)
I just upgraded from a 980
to a used 2070 super lol
just make sure it has either two HDMI ports or a DVI port
I currently run all of this from my gaming laptop that likes to scream at me and is currently suffering a RAM bottleneck
A PC build is needed
lemme see if i can find a picture of it... pretty happy with the way it turned out
But I love my Legion 5 too much to let go
i've grown fond of couch pc builds
Here's a pic of it
just wireless everything + mini + 50"
The keyboard feels just like one from a ThinkPad, which makes sense since it's Lenovo we're talking about
ah you have a lenovo workstation laptop. T-series right?
And yes that is a Wii Sensor Bar that I taped on top of my monitor thanks for asking
Nope, Lenovo Legion 5
Gaming laptop
I got her for under $600 new last year and she's held up well, even through a move
lenovos usually have good copper pipes under the hood
this has gone so far off topic lol
I needed to redo the paste but it runs fine
Which is good so I can preorder my RP2S yeah yeah yeah
My “pc” lol
Hey it works, so I'm not judging
honestly I kinda wanted to do that and just let my desktop die off but then starfield actually looked good
(eyes his n5095 tv-box)
I used to be a bed laptop gamer
I actually had a gaming laptop but genuinely did not use it at all so I cashed it in
I just would not use anything stronger enough to justify
i like older gaming laptops. have a Lenovo T440p on my shelf
Word of advice: Laptops don't like beds. Don't suffocate them. Unless it's a MacBook Air which is fanless.
nvidia 730m graphics yeaahhhh
really happy with the way it turned out
I dual wield laptops actually
I have an M2 MacBook Air for on the go and bedroom use
im still using a dell 7490 for my goto
I also use it for school (tax write off time)
If I wanna game or need windows for something: Gaming laptop
Everything else: MacBook Air
tfw dont game
i just like to reverse the games to see how they work more than anything else lol
It's an M2 MacBook Air, I'm lucky if games run
so you were the kid who took apart pens?
only game via retro handhelds xD
i was the kid who enjoyed looking for exploits in games to run homebrew
I still am that kid
I'm more of a hardware nerd
such simplier times
where finding usermode exploits was as easy as string overflows and changing registers
good times
good times
dang
I'll admit I've had run-ins with high voltage stuff
And even had a phone battery blow up in my face (literally)
now my hobby is romhacking and reversing random shit i end up picking up for cheap
lol
My proudest achievement was speed running an iPhone 5s motherboard swap in Spanish 2 class in highschool
15 mins was my record
lol
my proudest thing ive done was actually recently
making a modloader for a game that can run on real hardware
I wish I was good with software
and wrote it in pure asm
But for every Ying, there's a Yang
my proudest achievement was making four phonecalls in a day without needing a Hydroxyzine
was fun learning about all the quirks of the platform and realzing that emulation doesnt take into account of things forcing me to rewrite the modloader from scratch twice
Like I can do a lot of software stuff
But I'm way better at hardware stuff
Like WAY better
yea for me its a bit of both
Like to the point where I can normally tell you what phone you have by looking at the bacl
Back*
but i just love messing with games lol
outside of games maybe firmwares
for example picked up a digital signage board from the junk pile for $10 because they couldnt get it to work
saw you needed a annual license for software that wasnt cheap
reversed/poked it and ended up making it work without the software lol
But will it come in white?
the RP2S? sadly doesnt look like it
i say sadly but i cant stand white devices because they get dirty no matter how well you keep them clean
Cannot confirm
the 16 bit is white with skittles buttons no?
or is it more of a really light grey?
looks pretty white here
Retroid white. 😂
smoker white
Did we come to a consensus on which benchmarks were most important for the t610?
alot cheaper tho ($99 start price) so the target market is pretty different
That's true, I was jus' really hoping for an rg405m competitor
we'll see if the 610 vs 618 even really matters for anything other than a small number of GC/PS2 titles
and even the 618 doesnt run GC/ps2 all that well, so I think 610 is perfect for this
as long as this doesn't cause issues for like dreamcast or something
gotcha keep waiting for a pocketable ps2 handheld
win mini is probably the closest to that we're getting for a while lol
im avoiding x86 hahah, dont want those jet engine fans
The battery life keeps me away from pc handhelds lol
im willing to pay more tho but, midrange android handhelds dont exist 😩
a rg505/rp3+ size with sd870 would be perfect
hahah
indeed
Good price but I just don't see where this would be someone's go to.
If budget is your concern, the Rgb10max is more ergonomic, cheaper, and more powerful, nearly just as small with a way better screen.
If not then you can just add $30-$50 more and get a much better (in most ways) rp3+
Glad to see them try to keep a low cost option with nice specs, just doesn't seem like the market needs it imo
No wifi on the rgb10max but pretty much yea
I just need an rk3588 handheld tbh
Your opinion on the ergonomics is not one I share. For many this is what the RP2+ should've been from the start.
And it has analog triggers so DC is going to be a joy on this
yes, a lot of people are quite hype on this chip, but it seems that this chip is less efficient in terms of thermal and power
3588 will be like the 3399. Will probably come with a fan for cooling.
And a bigger size to pack in a big ol battery
i dont need it but i will get one just for that juicy transparent green.
Oh I didn’t realize DC had analog triggers
I take back me questioning why this has them (I was not a DC kid)
Wow, I thought it was just a Gamecube, a retro console with analog triggers
Is this better than rg405m? I was only thinking about getting that one the other day.
No.
Unless you really want dpad on top and can get over the smaller screen and slower processor.
costs less and like 10-12% less power
Sorry I meant more powerful? Just want to be able to play PSP and Dreamcast through retroarch so they have achievements.
it should run those well
