Played a good amount of Zelda : A Link To the Past on my transatlantic flight today. It was beautiful on the R35S. Really happy with this unit. Threw in some NES Kirby and some Mario Kart 64 for fast and dirty play. Loads of fun.

Flashed the latest amberelec and psp performance is pretty much as bad as i last remember, is there a firmware better optimized for psp that im not aware of?

And a Silicon Power in TF2

In a 2 disk setup, it may be writing to TF2. Either way, if the file system is fat32, that will be slow writing versus exfat. Even then, enabling FF or Rew does have a performance impact on this chipset

Good point re: fs. I don’t recall manually setting it up as exfat so it may be fat32. The silicon power card is certainly slower that the Sandisk so that’s likely a good contributor too. Thanks for the info.

With the latest version of ArkOS, you can enable quick mode which does that. You’d have to load the rg351mp image and update over the air to the latest version to get that. Or wait until I get my unit so I can address the stock update correctly.

Like Chirstian said, they really should had forked ArkOS and killed the update function. I expect they had quite a few returns/queries from people bricking their consoles after trying an update, I'm sure plenty bought that arent 'in the know'

Who knows, the date code on the PCB is over a year ago and so is the ArkOS build so feels like someone made it for someone, something happened, maybe a deal went bad and they've been sat for a while and probably sold cheap to recoup some money back.

Yes the kodi is deleted from the zip after being downloaded and expanded. I usually create a separate package for the rk3566 devices with Kodi but I didn’t this time.

I've brought a pack of two... hoping they'd work on a birthday gift I'll be getting in a few weeks time. From what I now understand they just work in the OS slot but not the ROM? Not sure how that actually makes sense though

ArkOS supports exfat fine. The device may have issues with exfat for some reason. I haven't tested this yet on here.

I know the rgb20s had issues with exfat so it may have migrated to this device as well

I didn't use a sandisk card in mine but even if you search here you can see examples of people using sandisk cards successfully - you're right it wouldn't make sense for some of the most robust cards to fail to read when the horrible stock ones do

It may because the 351v has a slight performance penalty for some reason. It's imperceptible most of the time unless you're playing some sysystems like psp that push the chipset hard.

Yea at $50, this thing is not bad. I wish the dpad wasn't so low on the device but it's great to just throw into the globe compartment of your car or a travel bag and pop it out to play some games. What's also nice is that sleep works pretty well on this so no need to use the quickmode unless you just want that experience.

i'm willing to bet that anbernic and hardkernel overclocked the ram and bus on the OGS, Rgb10max1&2, and rg351mp, because it doesn't make sense that a higher cpu would do as much as it does. texture and effect fill-rates are nigh instantaneous on the r35s and ogs, as opposed to laggy and system-nerfing. Like, i shouldn't be able to play wipeout pulse locked at 20 or wrc locked at 30. both games bug out and stall/glitch/stutter hard on other rk3326 devices as the world catches up with the screen.

Weird thing happening to me: bought a new Samsung evo Sd 256 GB to replace original one.

Flashed cfw and was using the same card for both OS and roms.

Yesterday got a new 64gb card to separate roms from os.

Set up new cfw on 64card.

I had the roms saved on an hdd and now wehn im trying to copy them back to the card it tells me i dont have enough memory available

Earlier this card was holding both OS and the Roms and now its not enough for the roms ?

Plus the roms are copied from the 128gb card that came with the r35s 256 should be more than plenty.

Got any ideas what could be causing this ? Cards bought localy from reputable seller im sure they are both genuine samsung evo cards

N64 mainly, it can run but there’s a resolution glitch that just cuts off the top of the screen

General rule is any system that pushes the device like n64, psp, Saturn etc will run best on the standalone emulators. RA cores tend to be slower. You can change this in the main menu and try different ones. N64 has always been tough as there's not always one that's best and fastest for every game, been like that for like 20 odd years

I've installed it and works fine on the latest version of ArkOS. Two things that might cause issues running is Mono, which needs to be installed, either manually or by installing another port that auto installs it and also theres an issue with SDL and requires a commandline update via SSH. I've recently attempted to place a few more roms onto a SAMSUNG 128gb MicroSD onto the device. Every time I now load into ArkOS there's a little orange dot and then it just sits there waiting to do something with a little "-" flashing on the top left hand corner.

If you're using a 2 sd card setup and you don't have the second sd card inserted, it will not boot. You also have to make sure the format of the 2nd sd card is the same as what it was setup with. If it was exfat, it must find another exfat card in the 2nd sd card slot to boot.

idk if this will help but I disassembled mine today to get rid of the rattle from the buttons here are some not so great photos

the start and select buttons took 3 layers of tape to get rid of the rattle, reset and power took 1 layer and the volume took 2 layers

Hi guys, new R35S owner here and I'm sorry if this question has been asked already... I just recently bought a new SD card to use in the second slot for my roms but couldn't get the console to recognize it. Could it be that the SD card isn't compatible? For reference, the SD card that I'm using is this: SanDisk Extreme A2 128GB microSDXC UHS-I U3 V30

Or am I doing something wrong? I've tried formatting it to FAT32, exFAT, NTFS... but my console still doesn't recognize the SD card

mine deposits black gunk on the OS sd card, and the card feels like you're shoving it into gum when you insert it. But since they properly oriented the card slots it's not the contact side that gets glue on it... haha

and those membranes look a lot like the RGB30 and RGB20S membranes; the dpad itself seems 100% identical on all 3 devices too

the closest looking one I've seen is PSP2000/3000 D-pad membranes but I have no idea if the dimensions match

well, rice standalone, it turns out, is mupen64plus, and the ini file is in /opt/mupen64plus/InputAutoCfg.ini; you have to scroll down to the section "[GO-Super Gamepad]" and find the mapping for C up and C down; change the axes from + to - and save the file

the provided 20sfiles app doesn't recognize it as something it can edit so I ended up using virtualbox to run linux and edit the file

much easier to play the ocarina now

Yeah D pad placement is better. Most of the time you'll be using the D pad due to the era of games that run best of the console so that should be the best placed. I know its only a render but the smoked black looks clearer. Also the recessed analog sticks is nicer too, but thats probably more required due to their new placement. You'd assume the rest would be the same!

When I install ArkOS myself onto a micro SD card and boot it up it always fails to see the second micro SD card with the ROMs and mount it. I've tried formatting the card differently, changing it to non-bootable, etc. The thing that confuses me is my RG353V and RG353M both recognize the second micro SD with ROMs, but the R35S refuses. What could I possibly be doing wrong?

As long as the card is formatted as 1 partition with exfat it should work fine

You may have multiple partitions on the sd card which is why it won't take it

maybe try a sd card formatter so that all partitions are cleaned off of the card

The other option is that you can flash the stock image to your sd card and update that and you will have the latest updates for ArkOS there as well.

I dont find the controls on my R35S that bad, yes its on the firmer side but I've had worse. I'd say its within that threshold of 'too loose/sloppy and too tight/firm' category personally. Got my R35S today. What is the recommended first steps? Replace SD’s obviously but what is best to flash to it? I’ll check pins and do research but helpful guidance is appreciated!

I was thinking pull and store the stock cards (16/128) and flash new ones. I have a quality 64/256 on standby.

ArkOS is the best OS and works perfectly. Personally I dont bother with 2 SD cards, just a big 'OS' drive and store the roms on there. If you do use both cards, then the OS only needs to be 16/32GB, no point going larger

I'd flash the RG351MP ArkOS image, replace the dtb file in the boot partition and you're good to go. You can update the stock R35S OS too but I prefer the proper one

You can try others, depends if you want the potential of updates or not. UnofficialOS works good, its forked from Jelos but uOS isnt being worked on any longer.

If you're in the know, Jelos would support it if they had someone to maintain it

Jelos doesnt boot at all, AmberELEC boots and works but doesnt have any sound, AmberELEC is designed for Anbernic devices so unlikely to get any official support

I just didn't see the point in wasting another SD card for the OS alone when I could just use one. You do want a half decent card as a slow class 10 or below can affect performance. I doubt I'll be using the console for the years it would take for the SD card to out do it's read/write limit.

Also try changing to the Retrorun32/Flycast emulator, it'll likely be faster too

Press Select and X to bring up the RA quick menu, go back one level and then Settings>Video>Scaling and play with aspect ratio. Most of mine are set to core provided, that usually sets the correct aspect ratio but does fil up the screen to whatever maxes it out first vertically or horizontally.

Make sure you save the config, I usually use 'overrides' and save the content director override incase the same core is used to multiple systems.

As for bezels, I like them on the handheld systems and found this one really good. Its 'designed' for the Miyoo Mini but the screen res is the same and uses RA too so work fine: https://github.com/drkhrse/drkhrse_miyoo_bezels

Haitian is a maestro, and I have seen no issues on ArkOS

(I own the device myself, the only thing I am yet to fiddle with is setting up an Amiga emulator and fiddling some more to get some ports to work, but the choice of ports you have available through PortMaster is pretty neat)

3326 is a lot more mature over the Mini+ SoC, and a fair bit more beefy, so I'd imagine it's a better platform

so I kinda would challenge the notion of the Miyoo having more community support (there's probably more people doing stuff through Onion/Garlic and making their own bespoke OS stuff, where the RK ecosystem already has it's underpinnings set in stone, i.e. EmulationStation and RetroArch)

remember the RK2020? that was a turd, but that gives you an idea with how much it's been in use

Holding the devlce like this to play a game like Galaga isn't that bad. I setup a game overide to rotate 90 and remap the right analog stick for that orientation. I haven't tried extended play with this yet, just a quick game or two.

Recent dye job 🙂 figured these are cheap enough that if I fudged it up it was OK. But thankfully, it was perfect. I cut the buttons on the inside at its way better. It's all the same color, just the sun/shadow hitting it.

I saw in russ's videos that you are supposed to already find a half life folder with some files and just import Valve

I've dyed plastics with Rit Dye plenty of times. Its fairly easy but ideally need white plastic to start with or close to. You cant go from black to a light colour. I used a stove to heat up a pan with my Rit Dye mix, placed the place in it until dyed then its done. Longer you leave it and more Riy Dye mix will give deeper colours. Do all parts at the same time and for the same length as its sometimes hard to get the same shade again

for the bottons i could just use acrylic paint right , and maybe clear coat and wet sand the buttons to then have the normal finish again

To be honest, I've never dyed clear plastics before, only lighter 'full' plastics to various colours. You'd want to be doing to Googling on dying clear plastics, I've seen people change clear plastics using Polycarbonate paint like going from a clear to a clear blue etc

Am I right in thinking the FN button doesn’t do anything on the R36S? I’ve updated to the latest ArkOS 351MP image but it seems the Select button is still the toggle.

At least to bring up RA options and save states etc. I can’t seem to get it to change brightness or quick mode, despite me turning it on in the options.

strangely enough the wifi dongle and adapter that i use on my R36S works perfectly there but i just tried it on my R35S and i'm experiencing the same issue you are. Since i'm not using the R35S i'm going to flash back to stock and try again and let you know.
