#Miyoo Flip
1 messages · Page 3 of 1
that's pretty high PPI for 3.5" already
there's gotta be SOME blackberry device that had that combo 😛
The 406 rumour claims that res
the RGB30 also has a bb screen, right? As well as the KTR1
But honestly I think max Zhou just likes to post random shit on baidu when he’s drunk
so my theory is that all exciting new screens are sourced from blackberry phones
Really want a small clam shell for portability and pocket ability but I would be hesitant to buy this considering it's their first device with a hinge
Maybe I should just grab a retroid or anbernic
It would definitely be a ‘wait for reviews’ for me
But I think the SP hinge is easier to pull off
It’s two fairly short and chunky bits
Not like the flip hinge
Yea
Honestly I would trust powkiddy to make a v90 successor than miyoo - since they apparently are capable of getting hinges right even at cheap price points
what are the rumored 406 specs / what's the full device name?
Knowing powkiddy they would use a dpad or buttons I dislike, miyoo nails that for me
also the x18s if nothing else at least got the hinge right
Is that the anbernic 405m successor with d1200?
D1200, 4” 960x720, that’s basically all we got
And given he earlier claimed the 506 would have a d1200 that would make this a 406 by their naming convention
I'd be down for that if it was plastic or had a plastic option with d-pad on top, for retro lower powered emulators d-pad on bottom is a deal breaker
He claimed it would be slightly cheaper than the 405m
So that almost certainly means plastic
thank you!
wow, cheaper than the 405m with a d1200?
sounds too good
what do we know about the form factor?
Nothing
Honestly the chip is kind of overkill for what I want the device for, hope it has inline shoulder buttons for better pocket ability
At this point the whole device could just be a fever dream max Zhou posted 3 whiskeys deep
If anbernic can pull of a pocketable d1200 for under 200 usd they’d become the go to recommendation in every retro handheld discussion ever
For sure
Right now the entire sbc gaming subreddit is just ‘hey I want to play ps2, what fits in my pocket and costs under $200?’ And the comments are just a slew of ‘nothing lol’
eh, we're getting there.
some devices already fit the bill with some slight room for argument
I.e., the T618 devices and KTR1
For me I'd be okay with 4,000 mah, I'm probably not playing this thing for long hours. As for ergonomics you're kind of giving that up for portability and pocket ability I would pursue a different device for those needs such as a pocket air or Odin 2. As for screen I'm not that picky with lower end stuff, I'd love for a 720p screen but I'm all right with 480p I can do 3:2 or 4:3 or whatever
sounds like you're ready to preorder
A little bit of black bars doesn't bother me
d1200 device with a 480p screen would be a waste
I guess you mean the flip though 😂
for PS1 and under, high resolution shines both for those who like the original resolution, for shaders, and for those who like to use >1x scaling
higher res screen is always preferable in my book
Definitely agree but these tend to be budget devices and it's the first thing to go besides chip performance
I don't think I would even be able to appreciate higher than 720p on a 4-in screen, it's just too tiny
I'm definitely a display plebeian though so disregard my peasant opinions
it's fun to discuss and lure in others thinking we actually got flip updates this time
D1200 running 640x480 would basically be a budget/pocketable gc/ps2 device since that’s the native res for those systems
The screen should definitely complement the chip performance, d1200 is capable of 2x on pretty much most PS2 games so there's no reason to not go 720p
Would rendering 2x and downsampling to 960x720 be better than just playing at a perfect 1x?
It would use more power too
Wait so what's the new news?
yeah some will play fullspeed and some will be playable enough with frameskip but a lot wont run great
#1101304832276562012 message
don't know if it's pin worthy
Hmm doesn't say much ha
Just a rumor it'll come by end of 2023, from a dubious source
But we coping out here, so we gobble that shit up
The red circle is not there in the original post, there was no emphasis on the Flip
And well, A30 is there too, so kinda looks like a list of all devices leaked this year
I'm ready to preorder everything about this except the hinge.
I bought the flip on day one and now my hinges look like this
Do you think I could get a refund?
They should replace that for you
They will replace it yes
Not only are you under warranty they’ve supposedly fixed this (I mean they’ve definitely changed the design, just time will tell how long the new design lasts)
So your replacement should be more solid
Are you on the retroid discord?
I think they do service like that through there
Yeah thank you guys so much
Same here 🤣
Omg i just arrived in the channel, is the MM flip really happening ?
Someday supposedly
i thought this was a fanmade thing when i saw it on internet
i just saw the image with no context
now i see it's MM haha screaming inside, we need it
I think the assumption was 3.5” 640x480
Just a MM+ screen most likely
Kinda a shame because that screen is ‘fine’ for gba but not good
Now that I have a few handhelds that can integer scale GBA I don’t think I can go back
So like, ps1, genesis etc clamshell is all well and good, but it looking like a GBA and not integer scaling GBA is a bit of a bummer
Just curious, what screen would you prefer
720x480 would be ideal but I dunno if you can get that in any size other than 3”
Do you think SNES will look good on this?
it'll look fine I'm sure
But like how fine
Snes on a 640x480 can be integer scaled if you’re fine with making the screen a little smaller
How much smaller are we talking
These tiny black bars top and bottom
That's not too bad
Yeah not at all
What be this wizardry?
It looks pretty awesome on the rg552 which is 5:3
Rip, another rp-flip hinge due to building the joint out of two loosely fused pieces of plastic
Imagine ignoring decades of laptop/palmtop/netbook hinge technology, and just going with the design team's autocad gut instinct, because you want to reinvent the wheel
*cough cough
Man even the tabloids have given up on the p60 😭
If the horizontal miyoo uses the same screen as the non plus mini count me out
If they made it just a little wider it could have a GBA replacement 3.0” 720x480 at which point count me back in
Unfortunately, that is the Miyoo A30. There is no P60...
miyoo seem like theyre resting on their laurels. people want several devices from them and yet, crickets.
i just hope someone makes a gba sp clamshell that can do up to ps1 with good build quality, idc who.
if miyoo doesnt want my money ill take anbernic or powkiddy (they seem to have stepped up their game lately)
powkiddy v91 wen
I’d take an a14 and an x19s while they’re going back and doing cool but flawed oldies over thanks
i get the impression miyoo is just a very small company, and if the mini plus is still selling as fast as they can make them, they don't really have much incentive to bring out something new yet
this is a search for "handheld game console" on ali sorted by number of orders.. they have two spots in the top 10 with a $60 device when every other best seller is like sub $10 budget basement fodder. theyre doing well
100k sold on that famiclone is nuts btw
It's only $3 how bad could it be? - why people buy it
It wasn't worth $3 - after they get it
i mean for $3 its definitely worth it imo
thats like LCD brick game money
for something that can play actual video games
If it can play SMB1 and Tetris it’s worth $3
hell it can even play SMB3. although theyve reduced the screen size from older models using that shell lol. bezel city
i don't have it but i have others with that same rom & it has 300 games really
Exactly, they hold so many good concepts and already developed prototypes that people want for so long, and yet nothing. A30, P60, Flip.. Omfg! I want them all. They would have an insane portfolio for all form factors.. Sure they are mining on MM and Plus now, but what they have now as A30 or P60 prototypes (which were physically presented on videos, it's not just renders) will get obsolete if they start selling it in like two years...
Sort off like Trimui Smart pro - coming with obsolete cpu with model that /although nice/ we have seen so many times already.. I bet it will sold as "well" as rhe small Smart model. Means mediocre and gets forgotten quickly...
wait the sf2000 is $10 now? I thought it went for $20
I mean I still wouldn't take it for $10 but that's surprising
20 is pretty much the standard price but it's getting quite heavily discounted on choice stores atm. I suspect AliExpress is subsidising this ultra cheap choice stuff to compete with temu tbh
ah that could be it
idk $20 is a little steep for me, ill wait till its $4.99
and includes a shower loofa
Be still my beating heart...
he didn't say what year
Expected December ||2025||
is this the first time they gave us a month instead of just "coming soon"? nice
Are you guys looking forward to this being sold out everywhere for an entire year
nah, it won't be for sale for that long
I would say this would be a pretty good Christmas gift, but i guess its gonna be out of stock, and the shipping time... So more like Easter gift. 😔😞
well, technically
if this is a 3.5" handheld you should expect availability to be more like the miyoo mini plus
which is to say, decent after the first couple months of hype
I mean, given it's a clamshell, I'd sit out the first batch just to see if there are any major QA issues
yeah hinges are notoriously hard to get right
but then again PowKiddy got away with it with the v90
the DS style hinges seem hard (even nintendo had issues)
the GBA SP design seems to just work
the powkiddy x18s somehow never had hinge issues despite having a lot of non-hinge issues
I suspect no one used the x18s for long enough to notice
outside of this discord circle jerk I think it actually sold ok, especially in more price sensistive markets like SEA and SA
Man now I can't make jokes about this device being fairy dust
you know they also could have just lied, right 😂 I will not believe it until I see it. Promises promises...
they said December, but not the year....
3.5 years after launching....could the V90 finally have competition?
I don't even want it for playstation. It would just be nice to do GBA/SNES well.
Miyoo's alieexpress customer service is not that trustworthy. Just ask them about the p60 and they say it's still coming out. I wouldn't count on a release date yet
Have you considered that they may still intend to do the p60?
I think generally until we have a photo/video of a working final device, we should take all the estimates with a huge freaking barrel of salt
So, IMO all this response means is that Flip is not dead
Or just until there is official confirmation. More official than a chat person on aliexpress I mean 😄
Which we never get from most of these companies
In the next century maybe after A30,flip
I just wanted to say that nobody should expect the flip in december or else you could be very dissapointed. The same happend with the p60
I mean, the funny thing is, people who are spamming about the device never happening/joking about p60 are the most impatient ones ¯_(ツ)_/¯ Just a way of coping, I guess
So other people see activity and assume there are news, don't see any and start asking questions, while all the relevant info is buried under the p60 jokes
And so the cycle begins again and again
Again, Powkiddy never effed up a hinge. They should get into making doors.
doesnt the x18 hinge pinch your fingers when trying to close it
never heard of any complaints about the v90 though ^^
Does it snap? Nooooo. Sounds like a finger skill issue tbh
i expect powkiddy clone of this showing up sooner tbh
as im pretty sure their spree of 3566 handhelds is far from over
If powkiddy want to do a V90 with a 3566, I am here for it.
heck even V90 with RG35XX internals would be enough
still rocking rg35xx, despite getting my ass handed to me in fighting games
If they are throwing in a better chip, I would want a slightly larger, better quality screen too.
I'd be happy with just doing SNES and GBA without a fuss.
rg35xx seems to allow this
problem is neither of firmwares are polished enough as of now
garlic os seems very overrated imo
koriki is less buggy, but still (or is it due to crappy sd cards?)
If powkiddy make a v90 follow up with a 3” 720x480 (uprezzed gba screen) I would be the happiest boy on earth
640x360 handheld when
Pls no
720x480 would scale gba well while still being just as good as 640x480 for all 4:3 stuff
960x720 4:3 would also be amazing
Integer scales 240p stuff, gba, and all the same handheld stuff the 720x720 does
Only mediocre for 640x480 native stuff which is usually 3D and benefits less from integer scale anyway
960x720 does great on GBC too
Better than 640x480 or 720x720
it'd have been nice if could reach us for christmas, with this release date it will be january, which is still ok
I’m going travelling in January so I probably won’t be able to buy until late jan/early feb anyway
just use a friend's address, it helps you look forward coming back home from vacation when one of these awaits you
Just cancel the travelling. You'll see more interesting stuff on the Miyoo mini flip anyway.
That would save me a lot of money
Save? More like "can spend more for handhelds" to me.
This is rumored to have an rk3326 right? Did I imagine reading that somewhere? Want to get an idea for what it can do when it gets here, just hoping it can handle PS1 nicely
If it can hit a good price point of say 60 to $80 then this thing will be an awesome value and very pocketable. A good beater handheld that you don't care if it gets messed up
Basically the v90 with a little bit better build quality and a little bit more performance
If they really bring this to the market for ~80$ it will be sold out all the time lol
either way laods of headroom for ps1/gba and down and some n64/dc/saturn as a reward for tinkering
Oh thanks for the correction, what's a popular handheld with this chip? I want to check out performance
any of the anbernic XX3 devices, powkiddy rk2023/RGB30/X55
basically if you're willing to tweak it'll do a moderate amount of n64/dc/psp
but definitely isn't gonna run the full library of any of those
but really good for portmaster and loads of overhead for shaders/fast forward/rewind etc on anything ps1/gba and down
I can run alot of N64 on my 353ps but every game need it's own config
As long as it can handle PS1 that's really all I need, I've accepted I just want something super pocketable for running 8 and 16-bit games for short bursts. The consoles like N64 and Dreamcast that use analog sticks are probably not great for this form factor
yeah I've kinda accepted that I hate the n64/dc standalone emulators compared to playing them in RA, but I have to use x86 for playing those systems in RA to be a good experience
The main libraries I would play on this is Super Nintendo, Game Boy and Game Boy Advance
PSP is the exception
because PPSSPP standalone actually has the features I normally want RA for
After looking at this patent sheet again. Was there a patent filling for the p60?
I think so, long before those ones
Where is the p60 miyoo?
I quickly checked a few reviews that Russ did on a couple devices with this chip and he says that most PS1 games will run at 2x resolution which is exactly what I want and need
Yeah it gives you pretty stress free emulation up to PS1. And you can use better cores like mgba,snes9x
Yeah I'd say the most demanding libraries I'd want to play on this is PS1 and GBA
Assuming it's 4:3 I don't think I'd even bother trying PSP
The analog sticks are great for this device because they're out of the way and below the device yet they're not sliders. Really great for the odd PS1 game that needs them but doesn't get in the way of your hands when you're playing mostly 2D games
Are you sure they are not sliders?
I think the design of this handheld is really good and very close to perfect for a super pocketable device. My only minor gripe would be the mono speaker instead of dual speakers but I am glad that it's facing towards me rather than away and it's in a place my hand will never cover
From the patent picturers they are surely low profile switch sticks. Sliders wouldn't have such a gap
I wouldn't be opposed to having sliders on a device like this where I am rarely going to use them, especially if they're Hall based
Thinking about how close do we think the actual devise will match the patent drawing ?
Sizing and layout wise it'll be very similar, colors obviously are placeholder
the shell pic showed it was fully recessed switch sticks
the shell pic matches the patent image (other than colour obviously)
I don't know it seems like a pretty old chip especially if they're not even bringing it to market until December at the earliest. I think $80 or less is pretty well in line with what it's worth and with what they've charged for their other devices, so I don't think it's a crazy price. I'd probably pay up to $100 for this though
if it's under $100 it's gonna be hard to resist if it gets good CFW
currently no
but I assume the onion team would be interested in supporting new miyoo devices?
Damn, wonder what the best options are then
I mean if this one will have the same popularity as the mini and is well priced it will be hard to get and sold out all time 😅
For the first few months sure, you can easily get a Mini Plus now though if you want one, I don't mind waiting
current 3566 CFWs that may or may not support this would be JELOS and ARKOS
MinUI I believe is working on 3566 support too
and Onion may support the 3566 if this comes out
I don't have any experience with this whatsoever, would you say one or the other is superior at the moment or do you have a preference? Between the two
JELOS is nice for being cutting edge and having the ability to do most things from the ES menu instead of having to mess in the RA settings, but arkOS quick mode is amazing for the kind of short bursts of play you'd want to do on a little pocket clamshell and has better portmaster compatibility at the moment
Maybe onion would be supported by the time I'd get one
Maybe? Onion on 3566 devices could be fun, a proper FOSS onion port to the RGB30 would be amazing for example
Personally i love to see what Shaun is doing with minUI - trying to make one sd card compatible across different devices
If I could share one card across MM/MM+/Miyoo flip/RGB30
That appeals a lot
Is there a minUI version for the 3566 devices? It looks so clean
Not yet but I think he’s working on it
No idea which 3566 devices he’ll support
I hope it won't take 2 years for a normal mortal to be able to buy one (not from scalpers) 😄
I got a MM+ first batch and a MM relaunch ice blue
You just have to actually order when it drops instead of 12 hours later
Lol first batch of course, nobody knew what to expect. But for some other batches, I was there the second it was dropped and sometimes it only took 12s to sell out 😄 I went straight through the shopping cart and it sold out before finishing my order.. But now, Miyoo is well known and since this is the flip that everybody wants, I guess it will be slaughterfest 😄
Imagine they would do a sale like in physical store. I bet the line would be longer than it used to be for new iPhones!
Oh you meant MM PLUS the first batch, yeah I guess they prepared large enough stock, and also there was already 35xx in making or out, so it was not as unique as the og mini was during pandemic..
It seems like analouge copied miyoo's selling stratigies lol release a limited product every few weeks and it will sell out in 30 seconds
I just hope they have enough displays this time, and all will be good
But it for sure will be very exciting time, looking fwd to it!
but P60 is i n the pipeline the longest! Obviously I am trolling because I think p60 was deserted a long time ago. Based on the pics and videos my bet is A30 or how is it called (the small horizontal aka 282) that one seemed to be ready to go..
^Such a good movie.
There was a reference to the RGB30 in the GitHub repo for the new MinUI.
But that in no way guarantees anything of course
nice! Looks like my collections aligns well with MinUI continuity (or how was that called) and having the interchangeable card so that I can just play on whichever handheld according to needs or mood, that is a dream!
I need a clear blue version of this flip 😩
Yeeeesssssss
Any tangible version actually lol
Good point
I’m patiently waiting for December …. Just not sure which December though, 2023-2069
Lol
anymore news
In 4 months, I think the only news has been the photo of the shell, and a customer support person on AliExpress.
I am a bit confused about the November news someone mentioned. I missed it but I guess something is anticipated for November too. November 2023, hopefully
Seems like it will rather be A30 https://discord.com/channels/741895796315914271/1123549937553121303
So this mini flip is not happening? I should contact the store in AliExpress and tell them people want a device like that for feedback
The A30 has been in development wayyy longer than the Flip so not surprising it's first
miyoo could have been sooo rich by now if they released P60,A30 back then wehn they showed what seemed like a decent prototype...
If they had their product development teams lined up, they could’ve swept up in each price bracket and size.
Report back if they offer any news
So going off aliexpress there is nothing.
lol, this guy facts
😆
I don't think Miyoo have even confirmed they are working on this thing yet....
There are photos of the prototype shell
🤷♂️ From 5 months ago. Supposedly leaked by an employee.
But, you know. Photoshop.
It's from a patent request, so not photoshop
but there is no indication that they even built an actual prototype
No, we got both a photo of a real physical shell with nothing in it and the patent render at this point as two separate bits of news
It's definitely real. can tell you that.
on a scale of miyoo p60 to miyoo a30, how real is it?
Those are the same picture
A30 is supposed to exist as of this December right
I still cannot identify a target market for that one
weird allwinner e-waste chip, a stick for some reason?
probably for those who want horizontal miyoo mini with some n64/psp as a bonus
but still, these would be better off paying some 25 bucks more and buying rk2023/rg353vs
There is currently not many small pocketable horizontals, so imo this is just a horizontal MM. Which is good, it will be much smaller than RK2023. There is currently only one 'new' small handheld and that is Trimui Smart, but it only has 2.4". Myioo A30 can be similar in size and have 2.8", games up to PS1 with absolutely no issue. I don't think it is really meant for anyting above with that screen...
FLEEEEEEEEEEEP!
What does that mean?
yup, that's how I'm seeing it. Horizontal MM. I don't get why they added a stick though
I agree, but it would be better if they had just used the exact same SoC as the MM and didn’t include the stick for that
confirmed this thing is coming in december. I think I have to get it
easy swap for MM+ if it has wifi
Unless onion gets ported to the new SoC it means no gameswitcher though
I’d want at least one good cfw to exist for this for me to buy personally, whether that’s onion, arkOS, minUI, or JELOS
Onion is no true custom firmware it's just the modified stock os. There won't be onion for this if it's a 3566
I mean the onion team might make a front end for it if they want to, either on top of whatever the miyoo stock kernel is or on top of one of the other 3566 cfws
But yeah it wouldn’t be a simple 1:1 port
That could be if it will be as popular for them as the mini
Personally I’d like to see the gameswitcher added as an optional feature to one of the ES firmwares like arkOS or JELOS - would give us the best of both worlds
Though arkOS quick mode and booting straight into the favourites list together get me a lot of the way there
Or recents, just depends whether you want to manually curate what’s in your switcher or have it be automatic like the MM
What year though
Yeah true
Source?
multiple confirmations from support - most recently this one - imo as close as confirmed as you get before preorders open
I still won't believe it until I see them actually announce it
They did not announce the MM+ though
It all came via the AliExpress chat and Onion developers until they just started selling the device
pretty exciting, not sure what to do with my v90 though lol. I bought extra batteries too lol. I guess as a gift
nobody told this december though
Well, while this flip is charging, you can ise the good ol' v90.
and i barely used it so maybe i should keep it for a bit lol
If the Miyoo Mini v4 is being considered as a downgrade, I'm pretty worried they are going to screw the flip up.
The downgrade is thanks to a screen shortage, the flip is supposed to use the very readily available 3.5” 640x480
I definitely don’t trust them after the screen res bait and switch on the mini
So I’m gonna wait for reviews but I expect it to be fine
Might be a small wait for CFW since it’s a new chip
I'm skeptical on the flip until I get to feel that Dpad and those buttons. Patent image makes them look new
True, the current miyoo dpad is the best in the game so hopefully they didn’t muck it up
Retroid ditched their typical Dpad for their Flip and it was alright (if you didn't get a squeaky one)
On the render it looks like they will use dome switches for the flip because everthing looks so shallow/flat. I think the original sp had dome switches too? I've never had one so I'm not sure
I just saw on their Telegram alert bot that this is gonna be released in December. These will fly like hotcakes.
Can i pre preorder? If i send $70 in an envelope will they return it with a unit?
let us know how it goes!
Isn't sending money in an envelope illegal these days?
yeah you're supposed to just put stamps on the bills directly
Damn. I'm gonna have to buy one of these things in December then
Those sticks man. It would be such a banger without them
they're recessed and its a clamshell, other than costing $5 more at most they aren't hurting anything by being there
maybe hurting ergonomics and the amount of space for a battery maybe
They do look pretty ergonomically bad but I’ve been wrong there before. Mostly they ruin the look of it for me, by a long shot. I always said a stronger v90 would sell a ton, but I don’t get why you would use the sp design but add sticks. Something about it really rubs me the wrong way I guess. Even more buttons isn’t too bad
the sp form factor is a bit cramped in general before you add sticks to it
I still have my original gba sp but I don't like the form factor much as a adult
if they bother you, take them out and fill in the empty space with plastic putty or whatever 😄
Hope this device is big enough to not cramp my hands
A bit bigger than the MM+ would be ideal
It’s the same screen size so either the same width or a little wider due to the bezel, but the dpad and abxy are further up the body than the MM+ so it should be more comfortable
I am glad it has analog sticks cause I was hoping to play some N64 on this
Imagine playing sm64 without analog sticks
That would suck
This is a form factor worth tweaking to make certain n64 games run well imo
Though if it’s a 3566 I’d probably go with a SM64 port over emulation
But getting OOT running could be fun
I wouldn't want to play N64 on this at all.
The thing about this is I can play it on the go and then just plug it in to my CRT when I get home
It's super portable
not even quest 64?
How do you convert the signal to analog?
I never want to play that. I would rather play N64 Daikatana. Just for Superfly.
You can buy an adapter on Amazon for like 15 bucks
Honestly I never understood why some wouldn't want the analog stick for something that has a 3566, it's sounds limiting. I mean the way I can see it I'll finally be able to play Alien Resurrection for PS1 easily, the same goes for the Medal of Honor games (you can play them without but they play way better with the sticks ), and theres also Ape Escape but also I do remember some of my days with my PS1 as a kid, I loved using those sticks when you set it to analog on your controller and suddenly it's much more fluid to control your character on a game that supports it. Also although this SoC can't play a bunch of PSP games I know that for the games that it can run perfectly, I'd still need those sticks. Then there's NDS, If this thing doesn't have touch screen then I will definitely need one of those sticks . Then there's also N64 games. People can argue for an authentic retro feel all they want, but if that's the case If you want true authenticity find the actual console and a CRT TV, not only will you get pure accuracy for games, but you also get that nostalgic feel. Otherwise this is just an handheld emulation device, I want it to do as much as it can with less compromise
I couldn't care less about it being a tad bit inaccurate, as someone who actually did own an original SNES back in the day as well as emulated on ZSNES also back in the day, I couldn't care where or how I played it as long as it's comfortable or convenient
Fwiw the stick placement also looks very very uncomfortable, but we’ll have to wait to confirm that
It literally cannot be any worse than the 353v/vs
3.5inch screen is too small for 3D games, and no wall of text is gonna change that
rip rp2s owners
I have been playing sm64 on the 351p and I can see it perfectly fine
It's actually been a great experience
It might be time for reading glasses
Copium
:/
PSX, DC and N64 all have simple textures and less detailed environments which makes them fine on a 3.5 inch screen
It's GC and PS2 that I don't like with a screen that small
I tinkered with those consoles a bit on my RP3+, then gave up because the 4:3 image for most games was just too small
You might be able to use a wide screen hack if you can tolerate a stretched UI
It varies from game to game
I play ps1 on my miyoo mini. I think I have more 2d ps1 games on there than 3d games but even rpgs like final fantasy and chrono cross are fine for me
Pre-3D: 3.5”
PSX, N64, Saturn, Dreamcast: 4-5”
All others: 5.5”+
It’s just science
If you want actual science, holding a 3.5” screen with 640x480 res slightly closer to your face is exactly the same as moving to a 4” 640x480
All that matters is resolution and how much of your FOV the screen takes up - that’s how those nreal air glasses work
That’s why I just hold my phone to my face instead of using a tablet
I also play Ps1 on my miyoo mini just fine, does not feel cramped. In fact I feel it's the perfect size and it looks so good
I have 30+h on digimon world 1
speaking of there's a recently released digimon world 1 mod I'm curious about
I saw it too. It sounds phenomenal
just posted it in #875000589849866240
It seems to fixes so much stuff what was wrong with this beautiful game
Does anyone else want a clAmbernic
Noice
Miyoo boy flip
Suddenly the PSP using discs makes even more sense
I mean, the crazy thing is that in the mid 90s Sony would make Mavica cameras that would store photos on 1.4 megabyte floppy discs, but they still felt like ebooks needed CDs
I'd forgotten those cameras existed... And I had 2 lol
sony should go back to being the "throw shit on the wall and see what sticks" company, fun times
Ahead of the game
Guessing you never heard of the Sony minidisc player?
I loved minidisc...
I do, but I'm afraid of hinge issues with clams 😭
clams set off my allergies
That’s the retroid flip that looks like it’s allergic to clams
🫠
Miyoo why do you do these things
those analogs do not look well placed
don't think they could've done much about that
but they probably could've placed start/select higher
imo not having analogs wouldnt be a huge loss on this form factor
didnt miss on the v90 for psx
maybe it wouldn't be, but I welcome them for rk3566
also based on how people use the right stick on rg353v, it could be nice for one hand gaming
by mapping it to dpad
Yeah that trick alone is worth it and they won’t be in the way
so thats official?
Is the flip already confirmed then ?
yeah the flip has been confirmed since April
but we'll see if they will release it when they say they will
Nice
Could we squeeze the RGB30's screen into this, Miyoo? I'd love you forever.
That would be a chunky sp!
I’d be down lol
Hell, go for the blackberry passport screen (4.5” 1440x1440)
“Analogue pocket SP”
i really hope this thing is going to be good if it releases
we all know this device could just get chucked into the unfished WIP folder of doom
for it to exist or DIE?
it only exists as a prototype and nothing else
hope the 282 isn't ass
It's got the MM Dpad. It can only be so terrible
It also has the MM 750x560 screen 😦
Which I guess I’m fine with if new chip = new firmware that actually uses those pixels
It has an allwinner chip right? I wonder if we get a port of MainUI or if they roll new software
I have to imagine software is what makes Miyoo slow to release things
They already showed MainUI running on this #1123549937553121303 message
I only hope it will be able to run light or middle weight N64 titles with playable speed…
you can confirm how well the n64 games you want to play will run by looking at how other rk3566 handhelds run them
well there is one factor too - amount of RAM
with 2 GB of RAM it will have android, and so - Mupen64FZ, which does black magic
with it, only hardest to emulate N64 games will struggle
src: I had S905X3 device, and RK3566 is on par with it
I'm curious, what's your opinion about the price. It
will be over or under 100$?
hoping well under
new rk3566 handhelds shouldn't have midrange pricing anymore because it's not a midrange chip anymore
imho it never was
gotten reminded abt RG353M price 😂
but yeah, it will surely be ~90 USD
maybe even 80-ish if 1 GB
I hope it ships with Linux
it certainly will
Its consumer level existence is still speculative eh?
Hopefully
copefully
why miyoo always struggles so extremely with any kind of deadlines
how much smaller can they be comapred to anbernic
Is it a deadline if they have never officially said they are doing it to a date?
$99.99
will it be under $50?
so it may be another rk3566? that's interesting if that's true
Saw this on reddit. https://www.reddit.com/r/MiyooMini/s/u8aHDnGpwO
Looks freaking sweeeet!
looks bit too thin 🤔
We shall see if it actually comes out
i think i'd prefer a solid colour for that kind of shell
Those buttons look pretty shallow
The screen looks nice and big though
Also give me a transparent jungle green 💚
That would be sick
This would be awesome
Buttons and dpad look like quite a step backwards from the mini plus 😬
I mean...so were the GBA SPs
they need to be shallow for this form factor
if the dpad and buttons are clicky, they'll be fine
if they are mushy yeah they're gonna suck lol
I kinda feel like I don’t even need the sticks. Thing won’t really handle much n64/Dreamcast. Would be a cleaner more SP look for cheaper without the sticks
the sticks vs no sticks debate continues lol
They could have sunk the face buttons like they did with the analog sticks
Only slallower
peeps who don't want them can take out the sticks and fill in the empty space with plastic putty
I was joking about it earlier but after thinking about it one could make it look good if they put in the effort
Yeah keep em' in for the people who want them
What do y’all think you’re playing on those sticks when it probably can’t handle n64/dc/psp/ps2/etc
as long as they don't get in the way, i don't think i'll care much about then
ape escape
alien ressurrection
also rk3566 can do some n64/dc but you have to do your research on what will run well
l3/r3 are convenient for hotkeys. I assume these sticks have them since they look exactly like switch sticks
I’ll take it.
Okay now that’s a good point
Also if it’s 3566 and it gets decent cfw we’ll get portmaster
IF
Yeah just saying a 3566 is powerful enough for sticks to come up (even beyond the obvious ps1 use case, and even if you have no interest in running easier n64/dc/psp titles)
fingers crossed that it will come out and be great
no thnaks
Dual sticks bring depression
and ape escape is the cure 😎
I would pay for a live stream of someone playing Ape Escape play through on this.
Over on the 35xx channel they worked out a way to play ape escape...
If this thing has a 3566, I'd be seriously keen
They should've simply added hotkey buttons
PS1 is definitely doable though, if any case
Though that wouldn't be my first choice here
I dunno if I'd ever use dual sticks at once, but having the left stick is a nice upgrade from the dpad in ps1 3d platformers that can use it, and then the right stick if nothing else can be remapped to dpad to play snes RPGs one handed
Sounds painful
yeah they confirmed it here #1101304832276562012 message
I never trust the aliexpress messages.
I haven't seen any reason to discredit messages with their aliexpress store just yet. I don't recall them giving out straight up wrong information
yeah, still waiting for something more official, like an official miyoo post
I don't think they do social media either lol
in that case, reviews then
Looking good actually
What are people willing to pay for this?
I’d pay about the same as other unique form factor 3566 devices (RGB30, X55 - 80-95 usd range including shipping)
Pending good reviews and firmware ofc
At this point basically all 3566 devices are gonna be rk2023 on the cheap end but have to stay below 100 usd all in to avoid the “just buy an rp2s idiot” factor
So there isn’t a huge range
I mean powkiddys are horrible and no one should buy their shit tier of handhelds. Might as well rub sand in your eyes.
It doesn’t really matter how much nicer than a powkiddy you can make a 3566, it still isn’t gonna be worth more than an rp2s
True. Retroid messes up pricing for everyone. I think I rather pick up the Arc over this.
With dual sticks 0
But I’m totally being a hater
I feel like those are very different devices - sticks + cross dpad + pocketable + clamshell + four button vs big screen + ergo + sega dpad + 6 button
looks like anbernic's gonna have you covered then
#🔥│upcoming-chat message
I don’t really care about sticks there or not for this kinda device so I’ll probably buy whichever one gets a firmware I want
Beautiful
Now I can buy one of these and snap it by the hinge and keep the anbernic
glad there will be something for everyone
Yeah there’s crazy amount of options now
that looks so much better. will wait.
For a pocketable every day carry device my OS preference would be onion > minUI > arkOS > anything else
Need some form of quick mode/gameswitcher/etc for whatever lives in my pocket at work
I use minUI. It so nice.
I think arkOS will come since the dev has a thing for pocketable devices
and is minUI also coming for rk3566?
If miyoo sends him one
IDK. just nice OS for these smaller type handhelds.
MinUI has a chance to come to any device the dev enjoys using
yeah and one of them was the rgb30 I think
But there's support for the RGB30
I hope this gets MinUI but if not maybe someone could fork the RGB30 implementation. DotUI and DotUI-X for the MM+ was great
I forget about the RGB30 because it so forgettable. PSA don't buy powkiddy handhelds.

I’m just cool with the thought of a MM+ that folds up in the pocket for protection. Slightly better viewing angle is nice too. Let’s not forget that some arcade games (and ports like Doom) can benefit from sticks.
Not just doom, the 3566 can straight up play Alien vs Predator (2000)
i moreso would really love a more powerful v90
Any chance of it having a rtc?
3566 has RTC
Welp I'm sold on it
What would people want more P60 or this?
I’m going to go against the grain and say p60. Need a really pocketable psp handheld that isn’t bigger than my psp1000
For 640x480 pocketable 2d stuff I’m happy forgoing the clam and just using my MM+ tbh
I am all for the P60 over this. Plus anbernic is just going to make a better one.
I dunno, anbernic might throw some allwinner garbage in theirs that’s a much worse SoC
Plenty of room for either company to fumble their clamshell on firmware too
don't need much more that GBA on this. N64 and dream cast can be left out for me.
The 3566 also gets you portmaster, native pico 8, a gpu for shaders, and significantly more headroom for runahead/rewind/fast forward
Vs some random off brand chip like the 35xx has
If the anbernic one is also a 3566 that’s obviously not an issue but we don’t know yet
Are Anbernic making a clamshell device?
They had one pic posted but max zhou is a massive troll so who knows if it’ll actually get made
Still waiting for the win 701, 35xx plus, rg406, rg506, etc
Yeah that's what I mean. But well I am in no hurry for another device any ways.
Knowing miyoo this will launch with like 200 units and no good firmware in December, then be actually available and have firmware by summer
Anbernic may or may not rush out a competing product in late winter/early spring to try and capitalize on miyoo’s failure to meet demand
It took a few months for the plus to become regularly available
Fair but it's not as bad as the og mini at least.
Not really. I think this was more of people being lazy or not trusting drop shippers. I thought it be a problem and had two with in the week of its launch.
Also the reason the og mini is so hard to get is because the screen right?
Yes, but that still isn't hard to get. I refer back to my comment of people just being lazy.
I just got a v4 mini with no effort at all. I see the business reasons of doing limited amounts. Then you don't have thousands of 351p that you can't sell.
Fair but it's still harder to get like I can't just get one right now if I want like most other devices.
But I get why they have to it that way if those 2.8 inch screens are hard to source.
What about this?
More vapournic
It's Anbernic, so it could be rumored for a while, see nothing, then be revealed and released in two weeks
Products currently awaiting release after max zhou drunkenly “announced” them on baidu:
Clamshell no sticks handheld
35xx plus
RG Arc
Rg406
Rg506
Win701
Nintendo 2DS style portrait handheld
If you're on a tight budget wait for this.
The last one is like 9 years and counting lol
I wouldn't say we are waiting on anything for the ARC. Besides price and release date which we will know soon.
I'm gonna say this again, the sticks are useful, for PS1 (not just for Ape Escape and Alien Resurrection) but for the 3D platformers that can enable it's use via the analog toggle in the PS1 controller back in the day. For the PSP and N64 games this can emulate those sticks will be needed. If this thing doesn't have touch screen, then the sticks are needed for DS games, a lot of arcade games play and feel better with thr sticks. I rather have a much more closer to a full experience with that SoC rather than be hindred by limited controls or rely on obnoxious workarounds, it's annoying as fuck (playing NDS on thr 35xx is a bitch if you need to use the touchscreen, and that Ape Escape workaround is fucking annoying)
why would you play psp or n64 on this. I ask this knowing people openly support powkiddy handhelds. don't answer I am just thinking out loud.
i mean a lot of n64 games will run fullspeed on this, its a 3566. its not perfect but if you dont have something better there's enough games that will be a good experience
and yeah i agree with Nique about wanting at least one stick for ps1. not a ton of games need both sticks sure but a lot did support dualshock and benefit from having at least one
Yeah I’d play OoT on this if it meant having OoT in a format this damn pocketable. 222mhz psp games will also run on this but the screen is gonna be awfully small
I want to squeeze every performance I can on a device that has that power, so If I know that the SoC can play a decent amount of N64 games, then why not? Same with PSP, yeah it can probably only play 50% of the catalog, and the screen is small (which doesn't bother me at all), but again this is about making best use of the SoC to emulate as much as you can
I am just one not to play those games on this formfactor. There are better options out there for those games.
Luckily it seems like there will be two clamshell/stick options
Team no sticks for this form factor
One I know will come out. The other only likes to tease handhelds and never release them.
yup definitely anbernic will get this out in a timely manner
just like with the rg406/506 and rg35xx plus
did someone create the new thread for that other clamshell handheld yet?
I'm lazy lol
That anbernic clamshell is a pass for me, if in the end of the day it's just gonna feel like a hindred PS1 experience because of the lack of sticks (that's what I feel with my RG35xx which is why I barely play PS1 on that)
Don’t forget the win701 or portrait handheld for NDS
neither is out yet. so we will see.
It’s a pass for me if it doesn’t integer scale GBA - every change anbernic’s render shows (the more GBA SP style button placement and lack of sticks) seems to be about making it a more authentic GBA SP style handheld but then watch them put a fucking 640x480 on it so it has a better screen for PS1 than it does for GBA lol
I just know once anbernic makes a video they release the handheld shortly after. Miyoo not so much.
While the miyoo one is at least up front about not really being a gba handheld outside of the clamshell form factor with the sticks and SNES style button placement
Obviously if the anbernic one does integer scale gba then it’s the better gba handheld
But it looks 4:3 which doesn’t give us a lot of options for good GBA screens I’m aware of
480x360 appears to exist from a cursory google but only in 2”
If sticks are in a poor placement then they take away even more imo. Really depends till people hold it and confirm if it’s comfy or not. But if it’s not it takes away from the aesthetics and sucks either way
Besides, and genuinely, I think a device would sell more if it just upped the v90 performance but kept the layout, but that’s my personal thoughts. I’d bet a good chunk on it though
it would come down to price and peeps' priorities
anyway seems like sticks vs no sticks is still gonna be a hot topic even after these devices release
pick your sides people
If they’re both 640x480 I’m on team sticks/miyoo, if the anbernic one has a good res to be a gba handheld then I’ll appreciate the gba button layout more
yeah there's absolutely room for both but instead we've gotten years of nothing lol
a billion RK3326 devices and not a single one of them was shaped like the SP
or a clamshell at all
Yeah I’m more annoyed the v90 never got an update
just the weaker chip in the cheapo V90, or the win 2 for like 500 more dollars lol
and that was actually the best it was gonna be for years too
oh there was the original X18, which counts as an anti-handheld
I finally created the anbernic clamshell thread #1169059294919012494
In my case if I know that the device capable of emulating a system but is ruined by limited controls (e.g. PS1 on the rg35xx) it takes way even more. Im used to awkward control's and was emulating even waaay waay before the days of retroarch and these handheld emulation devices, I managed to finished tons of SNES, NES. amd GBA games on a keyboard with the arrow keys were for my dpad, and ASZX as the action buttons, so control's are not a big deal, but what I find challenging is the fact that there wa an easy way to play PS1 games on the PC but the clunkiness of the keyboard is no match for the PS1 controller once you toggled the analog switch to use the sticks
Retroid Pocket Flip? That's 16:9
Im not buying another handheld that doesnt have a full standard layout for all this and more
Actually, these are forced to be some sort of slider no? I don’t see how a stick would have any range of motion
Would be chefs kiss for my hater self if these where rp2+ sliders
RP flip sliders are good
I’m joking of course, but I don’t see how these aren’t sliders
we thinking that means no L3 and R3 then? they def aren't RP flip sliders
that would definitely be a miss
they could use those caps but still have L3/R3 functionality
I was also thinking that they either look fake or they must be sliders. I really don't see why it is a bother. If they don't increase device size and are not in the way of other controls, then why not to have such option?
Useful info/round up here. Droix will be selling it. Jan release date. RK3566. Under $100.
https://droix.net/blogs/miyoo-mini-flip-what-we-know-so-far/
This device for me lives and dies by the quality and feel of the d-pad and face buttons, definitely waiting for reviews before pulling the trigger
I like the recessed housing for the d-pad and face buttons but why the heck are the face buttons rotated to be off
Actually almost kills my interest for the device even if it ends up being better in other ways
Here's to hoping this thing gets onion OS
how do you want onion to be on this thing
CPU is nothing like Miyoo Mini
JELOS/ArkOS/whatever else exists for RK3566 devices will be a thing
onion would have to be rewritten, i would say
What do you mean by face buttons being rotated?
they're more like an askew square than a full diamond
it's like a cutoff six-button layout
i don't mind it, but it certainly is unusual
On the anbernic one you mean?
The miyoo one looks like a diamond to me
Miyoo left, anbernic right, miyoo using a true diamond 4 button layout, anbernic using gba sp layout for AB then adding a second row at that angle for XY
Personally the anbernic layout would bother me for snes and ps1
I honestly can’t picture a comfortable grip for holding Y and pressing B
yeah it was a reply to the anbernic render
If the anbernic one is cheaper and has a good res for gba/GBC I’ll probably get it, otherwise if they’re similarly priced and/or both 640x480 I dunno why I’d buy the anbernic
Who knows maybe anbernic is going for the v90 market and it’s gonna be a $50 clamshell 35xx
hopefully there's no hardware weirdness
Yeah new dpad and miyoo = wait for reviews for sure, given the MM+ dpad is the best membrane cross dpad I have
3” 720x480 clamshell wen
The v90 also has a bad resolution for gba
And this will too
Anbernic probably will too
So we’ll have three gba sp clones and all of them suck for integer scaling gba lol
other than being a clam , this doesn’t do anything for me, or the clambernic,
it’s a gba clone with the wrong aspect screen
I’m thinking of getting one during 11.11
I don't have an x55
something that large and stick top with a 3566 never appealed to me
honestly I'll buy whatever gets 960x720 first, that combines everything that scales well on 720x720 and everything that scales well on 640x480 for integer scaling while also being better than either for gameboy and psp
This just in the bitches click
Hello,
I am considering buying the Miyoo Mini Flip.
I have a question about the joysticks on this device. Do both joysticks have a click function? That is, pressing down on the joystick for another action, does it have this feature?
Looking forward to your reply, thank you.
Has L3 and R3 buttons
so it's still ape escapable 😎
do we know if the buttons/dpad are dome switches or conductive rubber?
aka clicky or mushy?
I would hope they are clicky given the short travel
I hope they're the same membranes as the MM/MM+ but I am expecting something different
if the controls are as good as the mm+ this is a no brainer
The only concern I have is if they try to make the controls like the original sp
And judging by the shape of the D pad I might just wait for the anbernic version
lmao so I tried to pry to confirm its a stick not a slider but..
"Thank you, I am very happy that they are joysticks, not smooth sliders like the 3DS."
so maybe they are full switch sticks?
I think I saw on twitter juntaro asked them and it sounds like they are regular joycon-like sticks
on that picture sticks look buried too deep though...
Yeah it's strange. Maybe the shell is not closed around the pcb fully?
I know nobody is talking about this but it would be nice to have a touchscreen on this, I know people here prefer linux OS but being able to play DS games on this would be the icing on the cake for me
I'm indifferent to that
I would map one of the sticks to the cursor for DS games that do not require frequent or precise touch input
for DS games that are touchscreen heavy, I wouldn't play them on this device anyway
I could see myself playing spectrobes on this or something, but to each their own
I guess this is a minority opinion but I prefer the 3DS slider to the Switch sticks. Yeah, I prefer full-sized home console sticks to either, but given the choice of the two I prefer sliders.
ROAST ME
3ds sliders are just okay
but retroid pocket flip sliders feel really good actually
they have just the right amount of resistance and they are clickable
and those I would prefer over switch sticks
as for rp2 sliders, they are possibly the worst analog controls ever put on handhelds lol
so glad we are past those days
i think the RP2 slider cap with the flip internals could be really nice
i prefer concave caps for real sticks, but the way resistance works on sliders makes me want the opposite
I’d like to see the hall sliders from the retroid flip on more pocketable handhelds
i'm still tempted by the RP Flip...
I think I would’ve caved and ordered one in the current sale if I hadn’t gotten an opportunity to get a good deal on an odin 2 review unit already local-ish to me and if they had used the good dpad from the rp2s/3+
haha, that's a good reason
As is I’m gonna wait for a flip 2 to hopefully perfect the design
i still want to see some 3588 devices ship
I’m mildly worried it’ll be the 3399 all over again, good performance bad power efficiency but we will see
MM Flip seems like a fun little device, but so does the clambernic
The odin 2 takes me out of the 3588 market unless someone can make a pocketable one
sure
Like a 3588 x18s with good controls
Just give this a 3588 and some decent controls and take my money miyoo.
I doubt you could put a chip that high tdp in a handheld this small without absolutely atrocious battery life and a very whiny fan
put a threadripper in this badboy
got this message from miyoo today
seems like 282 is coming sooner than the flip
which is great imo for that 2.8 inch horizontal goodness 😁 can't wait
For me that enters into the territory of too small to be enjoyable to play on
Rg nano tier
feels way bigger than the rg nano
Aka gimmick too small to actually use
not at all, it's even bigger than the gb micro
Hm i thoight this was rumored for december, not something else...
It was originally rumoured 282/a30 in November and flip December
This is why I have trust issues. lol
Yeahhh, I like my eyesight. So I tend to stay away from those
2.8 is plenty for some games/systems
Gameboy/Gameboy advance games are designed to be that small
NES I find hit or miss
some games translate fine to a tiny screen (SMB1/2/3 for example) others waste a tonne of space (NES dr mario)
I just wish it didn't have a stick. Love the GBA Micro.
Still one of my favorite devices in-hand
I wish a company would make something similar. I guess Anbernic has RG300x. I would like the A30 to be that.
the micro screen for me is too small, I think the sweet spot personally is 2.8in
I also loved how the micro felt though but I always preferred to play on the original GBA
yeah, micro isn't for long sessions, I'd never play pokemon on it, but it's great for something to play in a waiting room, in-line, on the bus, etc.
original GBA was such a banger to be honest, I think no other console ever released matched that form factor
I love the smaller handhelds because they really fit in the pocket. Mini, trimUI smart
a great part of why it's my favourite console is how good it feels in the hand
I agree long sessions on these is a no go.
yeah, i really like my smart, very solid device, I had one survivie the laundry minus a cracked screen, which was easy to replace and was up and running again
I want a 3” 720x480 version of this tbh (with four face buttons and r2/l2 but no stick)
So you want the anberic RG300x with a better screen?
I just went down a 20 min. Rabbit hole on 720x480 vs 640x480. Pikachu surprise face. When I found out no one on the internet agrees with each other.
yeah 720*480 would rule as a retro screen res. perfect gba, smaller black bars for 4:3 stuff than widescreen and still good integer scaling for those. its weird that all these explicitly gba-shaped handhelds dont really have the right screen for it. not that gba is awful on 640x480 or anything but yeah
For me that and better fw and buttons. The screen albeit good res, was dim as hell, unusable other than in darker room, and the stock fw was not great, Adam neither (even if slightly better)... Buttons were way too stiff for my taste but that is very subjective (and MM+ is to blame 😂)
I just think like CRT TVs there aren't many smaller 720*480 screens
There is a 3” one
I don’t know the original source but it’s sold as a gba replacement display
Gimme that screen and it’s as good as an OG MM for 4:3 content (640x480 2.8”) while being a perfect 3” gba display too
there is the 3.0 V5 IPS Kit from HISPEEDIDO for GBAs
That screen is 720x480 at 60 dollars
yeah, obviously you're paying a huge markup for it being a consumer available kit
no way the actual LCD is worth more than any other comparable res and size
I just think these screens cost a lot more and many people don't want to pay that market up on these handhelds. Sure they aren't paying 60 dollars for the screens. The devices with great IPS screens 552 and KTR1 go for higher prices and people will complain to the high heavens about it. If the 552 had a t618 in it I would pay 250 USD for it.
The KTR1 is so close to being great. If Nil fixes the buttons. It could be my go to all the time.
I've really come around, I'm now a fan of 3:2 ratio and I think if I was designing my dream handheld it would have that
Ktr1 is really close to being great is why it's so frustrating
yeah 3:2 is still my ideal ratio
Dream handheld would be something like 4-4.5in oled 3:2 clamshell, snes dpad, super famicom color scheme, performance up to ps2 (good ps2 not ktr1 ps2) and a big ole battery running custom Linux front-end to make it a console experience. Maybe some recessed rp2s sticks or rp flip sliders, and no dumb design decisions. No loud fan, front facing good speakers, no terrible buttons. I think I'd prefer inline shoulder buttons and a thin design
even though the retroid flip ended up jumping the R1 in line for me and i ended up canceling
i mostly agree with that, though i find myself more interested in a bigger screen than the flip and all the added benefits for battery capacity and heat distribution that come with that
Yeah for me there's really two distinct categories, super small compact and portable and then there's the one you have at home which can be massive
oh i mean like 5.5", maybe 6" tops for a clamshell
I like four or four and a half inches for portable, a little bit bigger than the standard three and a half inch but it's still small enough to fit in a pocket. I think for an at home handheld I'd prefer 7 in
and i'd still want stacked shoulder buttons, but no analog L2/R2, since the swing motion of the buttons is pretty awkward for me on the flip
Yeah for my at home handheld I'd want all the bells and whistles, stacked shoulders, ergonomic grips, big ole fan, big ole battery, all the workings
For pocketable and portable though I'm fine with a flat back and inline shoulder
Maybe a tiny bump, nothing that would add too much width
i guess i'd prefer something between those categories because my big/small distinctions are x86/ARM
KTR1 is the prefect size IMO. No Stacked shoulders is a let down. Besides that if Nil fixed the dpad and buttons. It would be the best ever.
The shoulder buttons on the ktr1 are too clicky for me, I prefer quiet
At this point it would also need to be significantly cheaper
You can't get anywhere near Odin 2 base price, I would say the absolute maximum you could get away with is like 179
But it sounds like he's doing exactly that, right? And letting people buy daughter boards with either redesigned and improved rubber membrane buttons, or completely new microswitch buttons?
I'm eagerly awaiting reviews of the microswitch buttons.
Those aren't available yet. He missed his own deadline of the 15th of October. Plus I don't think that will fix the issue at hand.
this device will have rk3566 though
It will? I stand corrected then.
lol that rk3326 MM+ clone still seems cool
Yeah I'm an unbashed MM+ lover and I'm interested. RK3326 adds some value.
Provided they don't ruin the dpad.
The potential for ports makes this interesting.
Half the reason to use the MM+ is onionOS/minUI
Agreed. But ArkOS has that quick resume mode and Port Master
Assuming an ArkOS image matches this enough to work
I'd want to use JELOS on this for that pergame config and fine tuning guff
I think you can do basically all of that fine tuning at least for the RA cores in arkOS, just have to do it in RA config instead of ES
Jelos probably does allow a little more tweaking on standalones though
a lot more
at least from what I've experimented on my RG351P
ARKOS felt more like how ADAM did on the JZ4770 devices where you don't have many options to fiddle with but it's pretty much ready to go with the normal stuff
Little disappointed that the Miyoo mini flip isn’t actually mini.
it's still rather small all things considered
a little smaller than the v90 based on RetroBreeze's estimates
yeah I wouldn't want it smaller I think
as is I feel like most clamshells are more than small enough width and height wise for thickness to be their usual pain point for pocketability
No need for it to be funkey size
lol, if only funkey made the same thing but not novelty sized
if anything I'd prefer if they made this larger and flatter
like a 4" screen clamshell
would let them put more battery in without it being thicc
You mean ds lite shaped instead of gba sp shaped?
honestly yeah
I don't mind a widescreen on a clamshell at all
doesn't feel like wasted space
the RP flip would've been an instant buy for me if it had inline shoulders and their good vita style dpad
big excitement then nothing. I done this before with my old friend the p60.
haha, same
I lost my hope to ever see P60 released
and I'm not that much hyped about the flip model
if it's released, great
if it is not, then whatever
I think some of these companies miss the mark a lot for this.
if they actually make this and the controls are as good as the mini this is it. this is the one
is there reason to think they're not?
Miyoos controls are just mid
The MM+ has some of the best controls in retro handhelds while also being one of the cheapest handhelds…
the D-pad feels like they wanted the short travel like a clicky D-pad but also wanting that membrane feel (going off of my MM)
the mini+ is top notch.
Their dpad is basically exactly what a snes style rubber membrane dpad should be, significantly better than anbernic or powkiddy false diagonal prone ones
The MM+ has the best shoulder button design on a vertical too
the face buttons stick just a tiny bit on mine but the dpad is fantastic
the face buttons to me just feel too soft
The face buttons I think are the one place I’d actually pick an anbernic over the MM+
I think to get a dpad I enjoy more you’re going to an entirely different style though (sega style on the 8bitdo m30 or vita style on the odin 2)
whenever I pull out the MM to play it I feel the need to buy a grip to use it
all the controls are a very light touch and i really like that
The OG MM shoulders are the worst I’ve ever used
The plus are the best I’ve ever seen on a vertical
Night and day
With anbernic 353v/35xx shoulders in the middle
yeah I hate the lack of definition in the MM dpad
IDK, I'm just basing this off of my MM and I don't have a good reason at all to get a MM+ unless I can get it for dirt cheap
all i know is the mini plus has the best dpad i have in my apartment, which admittedly i dont have a lot of stuff
maybe my snes is better but i havent played it in a long time
the PK RGB10 is my favorite membrane dpad whilst the RP3+/RP2S is my fav clicky pad
ive never really used clicky dpads. i have an rp3+ coming this week and im interested to try it.
im trying to think, what corpo controllers had a clicky dpad?
I don't know of controllers that did but I know some handhelds did
The PS vita is the archetypical example
I like my vita style dpad on the odin 2 (same one as the rp2s and 3+) for precision platformers and rpgs
It’s almost a bit too hard to roll diagonals on to be a good fighting game dpad imo
The membrane dpads are comfy and easy to roll but prone to false diagonals unless you get a really really good one
The sega style I think honestly is perfect
Easy to hit diags on purpose, hard to hit them by accident
the ever going battle to find the best D-pad
ive never used a vita. i didnt have a megadrive as a kid but i did play one a couple of times at a friends house. can't say i remember it too well tho
are there any controllers with a vita style dpad? i only ever see conductive membranes
Oh the gba sp was also domes wasn’t it?
yeah
i think so. i never had a gba. i had a friend with the og gba
and the OG DS used the same D-pad
i was wondering if there are full size controllers with dome switch dpads. im in the market for a new controller and im curious.
The Xbox one I think uses domes
And the Xbox Series paddle I think uses the same board
interesting, it would have to be dpad on top tho. i'll have to keep looking
anyway the mini flip seems too good to be true but if it does come out and is quality i will be very happy
Miyoo is establishing themselves as a company that likes to tease devices that people want but doesn't actually deliver, at least in my mind so far
I mean fair enough but they at least put out devices quite often
They still haven't actually announced or marketed this thing though
It's not like they're trying to whip up hype
We did that to ourselves
next step is showing up at the patent office in-person
All hail the Clmabernic then, I guess.
Implying that one will come any sooner

It's the last hope for a V90 beater 😄
Powkiddy off the ropes with a steel chair: v91 time
v180 with a swivel clamshell
Maybe they spent that RGB30 money on finally making a new gba sp shell mold
I mean, all I really want is a v90 with the 35xx chip. Doesn't even need to be that big an upgrade.
Yeah at this point I’d take literally anything with minUI in that form factor
TrimUI could just make a clamshell version of the smart and I’d be down
I just hated the software experience on the v90
So if they updated the chip and added their Linux os from the rg35xx, I'd be down with that
The V9D, a dual screen lol
Did you use stock, or the miyoo firmware?
I used the miyoo firmware, but I just didn't like the style of the software, navigating the menus, etc
I don’t like having to do a software shutdown then manually flip a power switch and if you forget your battery is dead and your firmware possibly corrupt
I thought I was done with this kinda thing in the 90s
well, these are retro handhelds after all
You know, if it actually showed that message instead of just being black but you have to remember to flip the switch anyway it might see use
Even then probably not, the MM+ is just too far ahead in every other way for the v90 to see use just because clamshell
I dunno, it's still got new CFW coming out. It's outclassed by, well, everything that's not the datafrog, but it's also cheaper than everything that's not the datafrog. And hey, we are talking about it right now....
It's great for small kids as well, small enough to need parental supervision anyway, so turning it off isn't an issue. Can you throw a MM+ across the room and expect it to survive? Nope. But the V90 can handle it. I admit this is a specific use case, but an important one for me 😄
yeah , my v90 run out battery several times, because I don't remeber to power off the physical button
that's Miyoo for ya
Mid 2024 this will come out. Then 2 weeks later the anbernic one will release also
Do we know which of the two models will have the more powerful chip set?
I think it'll delay even more with the launch of the RG35XX Plus. Miyoo has to create a more powerful device to compete with it.
I actually asked them about it and they said "there will be a plan", so it seems like they're falling behind to the competition.
Yeah, but I mean the current Miyoo Mini Plus, which is basically their only device right now, will probably struggle to compete with the RG35XX Plus.
So if they don't take care, they might be out of business soon with only one device that is the same price as a much more powerful one.
Maybe, the 35xx plus as shipped doesn’t really take advantage of that power with poor quality firmware and an oddly long boot time so we’ll see how the software side matures
Lol nah. 35XX+ may have some bells and whistles but it's still an Anbernic Dpad
Supposedly the dpad has improved though
We’ll see if it’s up to Mm+ level though, that dpad is absurdly good
Up there with the 8bitdo m30 and the vita style one on the odin 2 for me
I did order one to find out
If it’s up to par, gets good firmware, and gets portmaster it could be a really fun vertical
If the 35xx+ gets Portmaster, I’d be heavily tempted.
I agree, the dpad on the Miyoo mini is way better. But theoretically Anbernic has improved it. And I mean, people are buying M16s and R36Ses, so in many cases they don't care that much.
Not to mention the R33S Miyoo nini clone coming. So yeah, they better hurry and launch something.
Fliiiiiiiip
So I guess everyone still wants this over the clambernic?
