#TrimUI Brick

There are ways to add extra/additional emulators to minUI on most devices, I think RGC/Russ has a guide out there for how
Shaun is such a TrimUI fan that there's a 0% chance this isn't getting MinUI
yeah tenlevels made some that I'm hosting on my GitHub for him
crossmix might work jankily out the box. Since the actual low level firmware is on the device itself, and the stuff on the SD card just kinda overlays on top of that, and we already have evidence that the stock firmwares are very similar... I think there's at least a non-zero possibility
This has a metal backplate?
not sure the metal plate is a good news, it will get hot with A133p, even TSP get super hot and it has plastic shell
(but on the other hand it will be work as a heatsink so will be good for the internals, not so much for hands)
Who needs fingertips anyway?
If they say plate, maybe they just mean a small section so you can personalise/engrave it?
From the renders it looks like it might just be the area above the shoulders that is metal.
Also, there is a 99.9 bar % chance of MinUI on this thing. The only thing that would prevent it from happening is if TrimUI ditched nand and put the firmware on its single SD card. But that's not their MO so I'm very confident saying that this device will get MinUI.
Just waiting for those AliExpress links now
Has anyone got a link to that integer scaling graphic for the display on this one?
Wow, thanks. Really useful site, the guy who made it must be awesome
He's alright
I like to think Shaun's house is extremely minimal with all black appliances/furniture labelled with white text "Microwave" "Refrigerator" "Sofa"
We have a real brand in canada called “no name” that does blank yellow labels with black text for everything
The minUI of groceries
In the US we have something similar called Cha Ching and their printer can't decide if they want to be Yellow or Orange: https://legacy.foodlion.com/content/dam/Our_Brands_Landing_Page/cha-ching/Pantry.jpg.adapt.full.high.jpg
we had this in Australia too, except the brand was called "black & gold", and the packaging was almost identical to no name
Honestly this thing feels like it'll be a banger if they nail it right
I hope muOS comes to it (I don't see why it wouldnt)
MinUI too
It's 79.99 for me
11/11 sale when
Apparently samples are being shipped now
I dont know if the preorders will come before mine or not but if they don't ill have some looks at the device
Who knows, really
Erm
They do realise not everything will work out of the box
They don't currently support this chipset... So that's a pretty big issue.
And making it overpriced as shit
resellers being shady? never!
@radiant lynx guessing you weren't consulted on this?
man ggg pricing is crazy expensive lately
correct but i feel like its only a matter of time
theres technically knulli for the TSP
and i want to say i remember there being interest in muOS on the TSP.... could be wrong though
they try port muos to TSP ...
Where?
ITS ON PRESALE?????
how stronk is the chip?
Same as TSP but seems to have slower ram?
MechDIY are sending me one of these - they expect to get their shipment mid-Oct
TRIMUI BRICK 3.2-inch Retro Handheld Game Console (Presale-October 20 ship) Features:.Immersive IPS Display: Experience stunning visuals with the 3.2-inch IPS full-lamination screen, offering crystal-clear gameplay and enhanced eye protection for hours of fun..RGB Atmosphere Lighting: Bring your gaming to life with adj
enhanced eye protection?
bundled magnifier
RGB20 pro is 99 from GGG, this is 30 over the price of powkiddys website. Going by this the brick will be around 50 on AliExpress about the same as miyoo mini plus.
I think it's going to be similar to trimui smart pro pricing
Which mini device do you like to purchase
1: Miyoo Mini Flip
2: TrimUI Brick
3: MagicX Mini28/32
All of them
Zero interest in 28, but other 3 are interesting.
Im more interested in the brick
brick is by far the most intersting to me. not really interested in the miyoo flip anymore tbh, they waited too long and i dont have a ton of faith in miyoo. not really sure how i feel about magicx right now
What a surprise, the Brick is leading in the Brick channel 😂
The channels of all three devices have voting, and the total number of votes is the fair result
Except you get multiple votes from the same users 😅 I voted 4 times for instance
I think a single “actual” poll in https://discord.com/channels/741895796315914271/886938925380272188 would have been the fairest
yeah based on how forums work, peeps would only follow threads for devices they are interested in
Also without knowing how many people are in/active in a (where even are we? it's not a thread, it's not a proper channel, is it a forum? a post?) it's not really possible to compare the results between (whatever these things are called).
I keep calling them threads just because I'm used to forum terms
Yeah, unfortunately threads are already something functionally different in Discord.
I think they call them Posts even though that's already an established term too.
ahh gotcha
So… channels have threads but forums have posts
Threads are optional but posts are not
Likes are now florps, timeline goes sideways, etc
also may I ask what the purpose of the poll is? just curious on what would you do or what conclusion you would reach with that information since they all seem like rather different handhelds
Out of curiosity, they are all upcoming mini devices
fair 'nuff
Thank you for policing my UI preferences. Have a 🍪
(For code and terminal I prefer light-on-dark but for text content I prefer dark on light 🤷♂️)
Thanks Mr. Inman
Shaun never gives me cookies 😞
Just question his UI preferences
without UI he’d just be shannman
The device is already on presale on GGG but no actual pictures or videos besides renders? What is Trimui's marketing team doing?
I think resellers are just jumping the gun. I doubt TrimUI's "marketing team" has anything to do with it.
Most interesting magics are the GBA/Tate and vertical portrait orientated models anyway really.
They’re the only things that offer anything new you don’t already have from retroid or anbernic
Indeed, the brick and 32 are nice tweaks to existing ones.
Obviously there's V10 and pocket micro, but one is just cheap and the other is just stupid.
Do we have any real images of this yet ?
I am silly excited for the GBA/vertical one, the rest are just kinda alright
I might get the mini32 over the brick depending on pricing
But the build quality on the brick looks nice
So maybe I'll just be a degenerate and get both
sounds about right, that's like 2mm taller than the mm+ & it definitely has more of a chin
looking forward for see it on hand, from the images seems more big
the chip is the same from the smart pro, right?
if I'm not wrong this one whould have a volume wheel, like the miyoo mini
How is the Smart Pro chip with Arcade and N64? Can it do Killer Instinct?
😂 no way
It's basically a H700 so very similar to a XX device anbernic. N64 Yes it can....killer instinct arcade. No that one needs serious power...like T618 and above
Thanks for the info, I didn't realize KI needed that much power lol. I guess that's why most budget handhelds fail the KI test
Ki arcade version is notoriously hard to emulate. It runs great on x86 processors but ARM struggles so you need to basically brut force it with tons of power and cores
The brick will run a A133 plus which is basically a H700 with a higher clock speed. 1.8ghz and a different GPU (worse?)....it will struggle with the higher end stuff. Except upto Dreamcast / psp but some games will not run full speed
It’ll play the SNES version of Killer Instinct just fine 😁
Just preordered both colours....couldn't help myself at £100 for basically both. That's a decent deal....
I can't see it going lower than £50 a unit this year
Might play the N64 version even
But yeah probably not arcsde
i saw a nitrix video about the trimui brick
didn't show the volume wheel
but i do remember and found a image that overall for the rest rasemble the console
this one is from months ago
Yah, while I'd love a volume wheel, it's not shown in the nitrix mockup or the teaser video renders unfortunately
😢
I'm always cool with sacrificing volume wheel if it can remember seperate volume settings for speaker vs headphone
@serene plinth it’s literally not 😅
Maybe that’s the performance mode switch that’s also on the tsp?
like a toggle for higher clock speeds? that’s cool
the only thing that seriusly puzzled me is the rgb BEHIND
there you should have either nothing or you hands if you take the handled like a psycho
Yes
I do hope they're individually addressable, that one's going off straight away
i do not understand this rgb extravaganza now days
i'm still iffy about the one behind the computer screen or television, but i can understand that
but in a handled? 🥲
I'm usually not a fan, but someone made a script for the TSP that makes the rgb go from green to red depending on the battery level that I actually found pretty helpful, I'd do the same here
Yea
forgive me my ignorance, I own a smart but not a smart pro
might not ever own a smart pro if this turns out to be good
It would be a major miss if this isn't good but idk I guess trimui is still a small sample size.
I'm pretty impressed with the smart & pro, especially for the price, and as someone who's not usually a fan of domes. I think they'll get it right, haven't heard of any major issues with them in the past & they seem to take their time between releases
the size and that screen makes the handled probably the next vertical on a budget
i don't know raw power wise, but it seems better than the rgxx35 on paper
About the same power wise, but the trimui build quality, screen quality & crazy sleep mode make it a better choice imo
well, it's a good timing for sure, next week i will gift to my brothers my miyoo mini and plus 😎
I was interested in the smart pro, but I was always reluctant because i have already a ps vita
Speaking from having a TSP, if this thing is anything like the TSP, its gonna be awesome
Great sleep mode, solid power, screen quality being top notch, and awesome build quality
Sold my TSP since my Odin 2 replaced it as my horizontal handheld
But I would love a really nice and cheap vertical
Do we have some specs of it? like what is the screen size and the body size?
it's all in the pins
thx. 3.2" screen than. great, means it's somewhat micro 🙂
I've never had a bad trimui though the model s plastic scratched easily 😦
the smart owns and I bought it at the overpriced launch price and still got my money's worth
So this should be good
This is the device I am most excited about rn
it might be the thing that finally convinces me to part with the MM+
400ppi just cannot be beaten
Yeah this is the one I'm really looking forward to until the end of the year... Brick with minui....
did you reckon that on the bottom the small hole is a microphone?
No
in the details is written that ispresent a microphone
is a strange hole if is not, but is anyway a strange position if it is
Finally a handheld that can play counter strike multiplayer
The Smart Pro also has a MIC hole
think of all those wiiu games where you had to blow at the mic to get things going
DS too
don't forget hey you pikachu on n64 and seaman on dc
truly some of the games of all time
does it only have a whole or also an actual microphone?
Someone would have to look at the board. Even if it has an actual microphone there's also the question of does the system see it? And then does anything actually use it 😅
Can we emulate Seaman yet?
something to do with the mic not working with Dreamcast emulators last time I checked. That was over a year ago. Thought maybe something changed.
i thought more for the ds
even if it is there, i wonder what is the intention to have a mic? nintendo DS games used it right?
yeah some ds games used it. usually not for anything too important but sometimes some progress-gating minigames. its often just used as like an analog input tho where you're supposed to blow into it or smth
Yeah I don’t think it did anything other than hear that there was a sound, it didn’t care what the sound was
Some "tried" to do speech recognition. In one of the tony hawk games you could record your own sound effects for when you bail but it sounded awful lol
But yeah most it was just detecting sound/volume
I’d never run into one that actually tried! That’s pretty neat even if it was terrible lol
it was never like, full speech-to-text lol but the ace attorney games tried to recognize which keypharse you were shouting, you could yell "objection" or "hold it" into the mic and it would try to recognize which one. sometimes it worked lol
Given massive corps still struggle now with voice recognition, not a shock that wasn't used a lot. 😀
if the ds game used the microphone sure like the sky it was using also the double screen
mario and luigi use it
the world ends with you
zelda
“Without you”?
ops, spoiler
Well also, the title is literally “The World Ends With You”.
yeah, without you is said in the game in a specific moment, i had a lapsus
Yeah, I know, just trying to do damage control and make it look like an auto-correct issue
Day 420 of no brick news: Slowly chewing away at my carpet for sustenance. See it all over my walls. Need the briiiiiiick
still no reviews?
They're scheduled to ship by the end of the month
So I expect reviews in like 2 weeks
20th Oct
Where are these dates coming from? 😅
That's the date that sellers like MechDIY and GoGameGeek has listed
For when they first ship for customers
Oh, right. I'm skeptical. Trimui hasn't even sent out dev units yet.
I’ll definitely be watching this. I loved the model S and Smart.
Ngl
I just want to get a black one and setup some sort of knock off analogue pocket
Aesthetically
That is pocket sized
I like the white one. With MinUI it’ll look like an analog pocket lol
The grey buttons kills the analog pocket look for me for the white model
In the past have you received it like really shortly before release or have you gotten it like a month before release just wondering if they have any sort of typical pattern to when they send out Dev units
We had the Smart Pro for about a month before they started shipping to consumers I think. With Anbernic we usually get them a week or two after YouTubers 😅
Why am I not surprised that Anbernic prioritizes free marketing over good software 😅
The more I think about this the more nonsensical it gets
It's still a week or two before they end up on consumers hands but yeah, definitely weird priorities.
To be fair I'll happily wait into November...I find that mentally if I know I have handhelds on pre order it stops me buying more... 😂
My interest goes down the longer it takes here
Just because the RP5 is probably gonna take up most of my time in November
Got word that prototype dev units are going out.

20th seems likely then
It was nice meeting you wallet
We manifested it
have these shipped? I am way out the loop
Shipped for who?
Anyone? It’s a open question.
No. Prototypes are just going out to devs. No one has received one yet.
Websites like GoGameGeek and the like are first shipping out on the 20th
Since Prototypes are just being sent now, I think reviewers might get theirs shipped a week from now
Thank you
I take this to mean you will be getting one? Hopefully MinUI?
Yeah, MinUI is practically a given on TrimUI hardware, it’s the birthplace of MinUI after all
It shouldn't take much to adpat the TrimUI Smart Pro version to this right?
Is this the same spec as the smart pro? Just horizontal?
Ye
Wonder if this applies to crossmix too?
don't undestand really the regular version vs the special?
does mean that the regular one will have a random distro?
Regular is Stock Trimui OS, special is some arsehole sticking their name in front of Crossmix and filling it with roms which is pretty shady tbh
There's really no reason to get the special
You can just get it yourself for free
i.e. would cizia get one
i was thinking some limited colours like gkd pixel🥲
i would love for them to go more into the gbc style and get some nice color options
