Now, I am fully aware that the game likes to be in a single direction mode, but I would just LOVE to see every single nook and cranny that Amber Isle has to offer :)

The world is interesting and beautiful, I'd think having an "open-world" kind of camera would allow a much more lively world that the game has!
(also more Verne stickers please 😭 )

Of course, that's if you want to do it!

The map probably uses visual tricks and optimizations for the front-view angles (bird's eye, cutscenes, etc)--if the camera was freely rotatable, you'll notice them eventually. You'll end up feeling less immersed because you'll see all the empty/flat areas.

3D games designed to be seen from a certain direction (Animal Crossing, basically) usually have environments not unlike Disneyland façades--but without the backlots, just missing polygons.

I agree with the camera movement suggestion, it would be so much easier to move around if we were able to see the direction the character is going to. It's a bit frustrating to bump into obstacles because we can't see where the character is going 😅

I wouldn’t be surprised if the back of objects weren’t rendered to save polys but others have suggested some limited side to side camera movement which seems reasonable to me. Photo mode especially!

While I agree that full 360 camera movement would require a MASSIVE restructure of the game and would be less feasible, some camera mobility even if its to tilt the camera a little for a more top down view would be nice. The first time I played the game on PC i didn't even realize there was a little path off to the left of the original entrance to the meadow just outside the lobby area for a long while because it felt counter intuitive to walk towards the camera through foliage. It's clearly not intended to be a hidden area but slightly more camera movement would make certain paths like this more traversible!

And honestly changing how the camera preforms woudl be nice too. The camera behaves weird when bumping into terrain for instance

Given you can rotate the buildings I'm pretty sure nearly everything is rendered on all 4 sides too.

Guess my point is nil, then.
