#RGB Backlight
1 messages Ā· Page 2 of 1
it isnt that far away
also do you recommend using the old method that uses the second gpio pin i really dont use the gpio pins so much and that i dont have a nrf24
I can not recommend using pin 2, as further firmware will be released only to control the backlight through the vibration motor line
ah fuck it Vibro it is
negative polarizer.
I asked Flipper Police to send a photo of the connection, but he didn't š¦
oh yea he fucked something up yesterday in call and none of the pcbs were working on any of hes flippers
im not sure what happened after
he left when it didnt work
@dawn hazel tell me what is the problem now
rip
yep irn not sure how he is rn but rip i think he ripped his original backlight
I hope he did not spoil the plastic and the backlight reflector? If the original PCB is broken, then there is no problem.
I just need to mess with it a little bit more, i had to leave home for a bit. Ill send an install video Wednesday when im home again
I ran out of working capacitors and the rgb boards are not working, not a big problem. ( i hope thats the issue)
I will be installing mine on the weekend so ill lyk how that goes and will send a pic of the connection if needed
just busy with college rn so gotta wait until the weekend
Ill run home and grab a pic of the connection @bronze flame
Both pads are the same, so there's no difference
Oh well thatās a relief
works now?
No
To be honest, backlight works without capacitors fine
What's wrong with your flipp? Do you have multimetr to check the power?
Whenever i am back home ill fix em both, it just might take a bit
I confirm, I assembled the backlight without capacitors
Tag me if you need help. Let's try to restore the flipper
They should be ok.
I have tried exporting the patch in several ways. This turned out to be a problem - patches are not applied to unofficial firmware due to incompatibility in the code. You will have to transfer all changes manually
On the previous versions of the code i just used git format-patch HEAD~"numberofcommits"..HEAD to generate multiple patches based on your changes. It worked just fine for every fw i tried it on. But i havent done it for the new update yet
I haven't tried doing it this way. I think that in this case, not only my commits, but also the commits of the official developers will get into the patch. This will lead to merge conflicts.
Now I tried to make a patch based on the differences between the main branch and the rgb branch. Then only my changes get into the patch. So far, when merging with another firmware, errors are obtained. I'll try to fix the patch manually, maybe I'll succeed
So when using the git format-patch HEAD~"numberofcommits"..HEAD cmd you can only apply the commits you want, it says the name of the commit in the title
This way i could only select your commits
Now to manually search for your commits? No I won't do that
Hehe
lol itās tbh not that hard to transfer files manually
Yes. I just don't want to do it by hand. I am for automation
Sasquach's rgb boards made it fine!
W
Has he tried it yet?
no hes waiting until he gets a backup
Is anyone selling the bare PCBs for this RGB mod?
I'm sending them for free, @dawn hazel is trying to sell
šÆ sending PM, hah
im only selling for $15, with free shipping
Usa is only 3 - 5 day shipping
shipping costs are almost $15 lol
i make like a dollar
you just want the pcb? no leds or capacitors?
Jlpcb was pretty fast with shipping my boards. If you're just buying the boards with nothing done I don't know why you wouldn't just use them.
@bronze flame @upbeat lantern if you are available to help and try and fix this flipper id love the assistance
Fixed it
60 more leds coming
That was 2 am for me. I was sleeping š
What was wrong?
Good morning
how should i pass the wire under the screen cable
There's a gap between the backlight pcb and the black frame. You need to pass the wire to the middle of screen, and then you'll be able to pass it under the screen flat cable
It should be something like this
how long did it take for other people to receive the pcb from you?
I started sending recently, and no boards reached any of the receipents yet
oh nice i hope im the first
Israel post isn't that fast as I wnat it to be. Here's the movements of the fisrt letter with pcb
I can try, but there's not chances it will cost $7 to send=)
(by is there i mean can you send)
Yep, we have DHL, UPS and all the delivery services, but they are quite expensive. For US it's worth to buy a PCB from @dawn hazel
oh yes but im in sweden so thats why i thought it would be better to buy from you
Let's see
i mean i didnt know where you are from from the start but i kinda guessed that your not from the US
š
hey you and Quenon should make a tindie page or something
might be easier for other people to buy
I'm not aiming to make a business out of that, I'm just sending leftovers that I don't need anymore, as both of my flippers have the custom backlight
And I don't think there's a huge demand on this mod
oh well thats a generous thing to do
Few enthusiasts will install this backlight for sure, but not that many to try make business out of it
how many leftovers do you have
Going to send the last assembled pcb on Sunday, but can assemble 5-10 more
i mean the flipper is growing more and more every day so if i was as brilliant and you i would definitely make a business out of it but i completely respect what you are doing
@dawn hazel is trying, let's see what it will lead to
yea @dawn hazel hmu if you want to make a website or something lmao or a tindie page will do
The most brilliant guy here is Quenon, as there's nothing hard to draw a simple PCB, but you should know C and figure out with flipper firmware and hardware to make it work.
So all credits to Quenon=)
oh yea that most be not that easy at all i know a decent amount of C but i would never figure out how to make something like that
At first I thought that everything would be very simple, but then I discovered many subtle points that I had to solve
Im a website dev lol
ooooo didnt knew this

@bronze flame Im going to compile all the commits you made into one single commit, is there anything that i can just leave out?
Don't know
bruh
Do I also solder to the Vibro connection for the cfw?
@dawn hazel you got any tips on getting this stupid screen off
Hammer
i swear its got no solder on it but wont come out
yeah, cut the posts still sticking out
I tried the are cut as far as could be and itās like stuck or something
use a guitar pick under the backlight to pry it away from the main pcb
make sure you have a big glob of solder on the contack to make sure its all melted
thats a good idea
got it
ā¤ļø
Yes, if you use my fork/patch from my fork
Iām very confused to be honest the backlight has continuity itās soldered to the vibro also the other short one but it still wont work
Show what where and how soldered
Did you assemble the backlight board yourself?
yes but i checked with a multimeter and its assembled right
i swear i read it was supposed to be connected to top and bottem but luckly i havent turned it on since it was only connected to the bottem
OK. Take a photo after you fix the soldering
That is how xxut did it
thats why i did it that way
Nope
pprob just looked like it cause its hard to tell due to size
Omg, he really did. sorry
So Iām not crazy for doing top and bottom
@lime tinsel could you pin this in this proj thread
Well done for noticing that you only need to connect to the bottom
This is the original source of information
Why? I have that linked in my repo. My repo has all the guides and info there
I dont have my own patched firmware there anymore
Mine will also have the video instal guides on there
1/2 videos there allready
My repositories are always up-to-date
Does it work now?
Checking
Okay, you can try to turn on the device. Have you already flashed the RGB firmware?
yeah
Then you can just connect the USB. The backlight should be orange
do you use flux?
done!
Tysm!
facepalm
what?
yeah thats why its semi glossy
Read a few messages below after his request
shit wrong reply
Does not work and if it was the backlight there wouldnāt be continuity
Right?
I'm not getting into the middle of this, so both are pinned. you all can figure out which is better if needed.

Thanks a lot
well i got to go ill figure it out tmr must be the backlight somhow
I can not understand how the backlight works now. Can you send a video of the flipper?
It doesnāt work there is just continuity
Did you assemble your own backlight?
Yeah Iāve also checked all the solder multiple times and it looks good
Did you orient the leds the correct way?
What do you mean by continuity?
You can reference the backlight assembly video in my github
If I put my multi meter on each side there is continuity between those points
Hard to tell thats they way they are facing
Yeah they are the right way
Then everything should be working
Yeah thatās why Iām confused all well Iāll figure it out tmr
Sounds good!
You won't get a constantly changing signal. The control signal passes only when the backlight is turned on / off or its color changes.
If I understand correctly, after turning on the power, the backlight does not turn on?
Yeah im just saying it should be soldered fine because electricity can flow through the backlight
Ok, have you turned on the flipper yet?
Almost 1200 msgs here
I was out but yeah nothing gonna build another backlight maybe itās the pcb
I can't understand your English...
Now you have everything assembled, but when you connect the USB, the backlight does not light up, right?
correct
Okay, then just connect the USB flipper to the computer and install the firmware
Web platform for your Flipper
im going to make a new backlight i think the one i made first doesn't work
Try updating the firmware first
ok its updating right now
nothing happened i will make a new back light and let you know if that works
i feel like it should be working
Those led joints look VERY briged
And the front capacitor doesnt look like its soldered on both ends
meant to send this one
that one was hella bridged didnt even used it just used it as a test piece when i got my soldering iron
I'd recommend testing the PCB before soldering
With Arduino or esp or even with a flipper, but without soldering
Are those thing magnetic?
No, just mechanical
Hey @drowsy pine how did your hot plate method go?
Havenāt had the time yet.
@bronze flame did you ever get the auto updating patch files working?
Not yet
anyone know how difficult it would be for me to try and change the backlight if i have no experience in soldiering
Very hard
could you help me diagnose my flipper?
it is no longe responding to any power
it will not turn on
Ok, 10 mins
do you have a usb to uart adapter?
no
Another flipper?
yeah
Great. We will use him to usb-uart converter
Go
Using a Flipper to diagnose a Flipper. Amazing.
y'know, imma use this convo next time someone questions why you need more than one Flipper
Video tutorial on how to install the RGB backlight for the Flipper Zero
PCB Assembly video https://youtu.be/N64fDjziTaE

Huge thanks to TheTalkingSasquach for editing the video and for the thumbnail
@dawn hazel I'd buy one, preassemled
same
shoot me a dm if you want one!

will be doing that rn
@cursive violet
ifixit should have a guide
Finally a update
@upbeat lantern whatās the point of the second pcb you sent me with no leds on it?
Just in case if the assembled one will be damaged during the shipment
You can try to assemble it, give to someone else, or just throw away
Thanks I was just wondering
I donāt have a air rework station so Iām not gonna use it
Iāll pay you for the pcbs shipping in a few hours
@dawn hazel @upbeat lantern in any chance do you guys still have the original backlight pcb if you do could you please send me a pic of it next to the rgb pcb?
Thanks!
The wire is needed to change the rgb colors which is why you connect it gpio A7 right?
Why A7 and not any others?
No no no no
Vibro testpad
At the development stage, the first convenient contact was chosen, but then it was replaced with a vibration motor testpad
Okay
Whatās the difference between the two?
Done, the guide updated
Is it better?
The benefit of using vibro line is that you don't need to sacrifice one of GPIO pins. Vibro and backlight can share the same line not interfering with each other
I get it now
You should put that in the guide
k
So any of the four work @misty laurel?
I could send pics when mine arrives
Oh nvm
The other 2 are for different functions
I see 4 squares
1 2
34
I am still confused about the 2nd pin in this pictures are both 2on the right the same or only bottom right one?
Look
You just need to connect negative contact of backlight to ground
It's not that important where to, choose whatever you want
No i mean this
They are both the same
There's no difference if you connect to only one of them or to both of them
@upbeat lantern is the screen glued down or just soldered down?
The screen itself glued, but the backlight pcb is soldered
So I just need to get to the backlit pcb
Which is soldered and I canāt remove the glue
You need to unsolder pcb first, then just pull the screen
Okay
And is the .patch file updated?
No, there are no updated patches yet. You can just install the firmware
Web platform for your Flipper
okay
ill get started on modding my f0 in a few minutes
it died so i need to let it charge a bit
ill install this now
then rgb-ify it
or should i after?
Don't care
oh and not sure if ya saw my rgb backlight install video

Huge thanks to TheTalkingSasquach for editing the video and for the thumbnail
i did
sweet!
i also liked + subbed
okay time to see if i can do this
sure thing
You're a mighty person)
@modern moss history is repeating itself
OH NO
clearly he should hire you to solder them back on
Yes i good at solder
I has orginize
@bronze flame @upbeat lantern another question would the mod work with normal firmwares?
M?
Your screen won't be backlighted
But apart from this ā everything will work fine
Creating a patch is not a problem. The problem is that the patch simply won't work with other firmware because they are different
Should I use soldering paste?
You can, but you shouldn't
Alright thanks
I mean it's not mandatory, but there's no restrictions on soldering paste
Ahh
Ok thanks
What firmware do you want to apply the patch to?
Clara is based on RM, you need to transfer changes manually
I can send a patch, but it probably won't work
I could try
I couldnāt unsolder both they would cool down before I could pull the board out
Do you have a solder sucker?
Maybe
Use that
Okay let me try
We donāt
Oof
Then idk
@bronze flame
Is the lcd flexible enough for me to pull one side out at a time?
@upbeat lantern
You could take out the lcd first i think
@sleek narwhal im gonna try a different soldering iron and see what happens
Yeah, ill send you a dm once i get s patch working
Im not home rn though
@bronze flame, could you build a patch for your changes to ofw?
Just the commits that are important to the rgb functionality
not now, later
Just @dawn hazel me when you have it
If you go to the hardware store, take a piece of copper wick as well
I think I might need to add a soldering guide to the article:)
I feel like it will just put false hope into people
Itās coming today so I can finish.
And I already have some here
@bronze flame any tips on removing the lcd form the main board?
Or @upbeat lantern?
Remove tin from backlight pcb contacts and pull the screen
There's some glue between the mainboard and the screen
You may try to put something thin in between
But be careful with knives, you can damage the reflector film
Okay Iāve gotten to here
To be able to pull the backlight pcb
You need to remove the tin between the main board and backlight pcb contacts completely
A lot of flux and a copper wick should do the job in a minute
I donāt know where the copper wire went
Another option is to heat a contact and pull the screen, then heat another one and pull the other side of the screen. But that way you can damage the original PCB and you still need to clean holes to be able to put new backlight
But Iāll need to remove the glue first right?
It's kinda simultaneous process
You can apply a bit of force and remove the screen without backlight pcb, and the deal with backlight, but you have to be extremely careful and I'd not recommend this way
So how should I remove all the tin without copper wire?
Solder sucker, copper wick, desoldering pump station.
I have a solder sucker
But itās not sucking up the solder when I melt it
And I donāt have any copper wick
But I need more gone to be able to take it out
You need to have all the solder off the contacts
Then cut the contacts off
Then re tin one pad
Then slide a guitar pick between the lcd and the main pcb
Then hold your soldering iron to the tinned pad
Then push down on the pick
Repeat until the display is off
Iāve been using a small flat screwdriver
NO
that will destroy the traces on the main pcb
I wouldnt be surprised if you alr destroyed your flipper
Please take our advice, everyone that has been telling you what to do has done this mod multiple times
Okay

The first related video from YouTube
I donāt even have a guitar pic
It doesnt have to be a guitar pick, i use ifixit pry picks
Just something thin and plastic
okay
I donāt have a thin credit card
How long does it take for ifixit to ship?
My shipping times will be diff than yours, ive only ordered via my commercial account. It should say your shipping time at checkout
Okay
If you have like a walmart or a music store nearby they should have guitar picks
None nearby
You are aware this is not really a beginner project right?
About an hour away for Walmart and hobby lobby is the only place I can think of that would have the pics
Do you have any electrical tape?
Yes
Ok, cut a square about the size of a quarter, then put the tape on your flat head screwdriver
Then send a pic
Iāll do that when I get home
i am pretty sure this means its arrived
Nice
YW)
That's just spare parts. In case if the assembled pcb damaged by postal service
ah thanks i was wondering why you sent two
And you can practice with backlight assembling

Š, ŠæŠ¾Š“Š¾ŃŠ¾Š¶Š½ŠøŠŗ
Huh
Cooked bananas
That is pretty random
Idfk, ask the dude who said it
That was safety packaging
There's a chance it's still working
It should work 100%, because you put plantain š
:))
I stfg plantain is just cooked bananas
Ok lets be honest itās actually really easy to install a pre soldered one
Again @upbeat lantern @bronze flame thank you so much for making this possible
Oh my fucking god after assembling it i forgot something
Lol
Hell yeaa
100% cringe. I like it!

That was a compliment
Oh
Thanks then
Which pad did you solder the control wire to?
Vibro
What patch are you using for the fw?
For the vibro pad?
Omg thx that would help alot
Yeah Iām my opinion if you have a pre built pcb you need like 0 past knowledge to replace it
Try me
I believe you can
I have faith in you
I've already fucked it up
HOW...
BRUH
Thats not true lol, if it was then could a 6 yo do it?
Ok I was being sarcastic but I think if I gave it to a friend who never soldered before as long as they know how it works it works I think they could
OH SHIT
How?
I wouldnt try tho lmao
Stripped screw?
Just use a ph 00 bit and a rubber band
Didn't work
Worked like a charm for me
Nah mine was a solid circle
Same
Ngl the one problem with flipper is they are cheap screws
Jesus yall fuckin up your flippers
And my front and back case are destroyed
š
Maybe I can get someone in #1063534201497989140 To sell me one
Nah mines fine because I use to extract screws in construction all the time so I know how without even messing with the thread
Would sometimes happens on fans and stuff where if you mess up itās like $350
See screw hole still intact
Hey i mean i broke the original backlight while doing this but that shouldnāt be a problem
How that happen?
Was trying to take it out and broke the feet still works but this was the only mistake i made
Yeah thatās not bad
@bronze flame is this when the GPIO pin was updated to the Vibro testpad?
š¤·
Whenever i get to my pc ill build the patch

@upbeat lantern thanks it made it completely fine
ty š
Like completely different?
Well if you send me some pictures I can try to redraw the new version
Wtf the flipper is updated?
Whats the difference
@dusty gull
Could you send a pic of the new lcd?
Can you insert the pcb without LEDs and capacitors?
Like a bare pcb
Yep
And the back side please
New backlight pcb that came in flipper has nothing on the back
Any staff know smth about this?
I need to get this flipper shipped
So i might have to modify display
@balmy totem
@swift inlet Is there a advantage to either
Like between R04 (01) and R04 (01)
ngl it looks like a offbrand flipper lmao
So basically it just needs to move LEDs a bit and flip one capacitor to the back side
Yeah
The leds need to move different ways tho
Is there models of both lcd versions?
i dont have my calipers to measure
@bronze flame whenever i have the rgb board installed the flipper will not turn on
only when i have this soldered
Show me how you soldered it
i soldered it only to the bottom
it is not jumping to anything
i am going to try another gnd
does not work
any idea why?
Is that the other flipper?
Send a photo of what you did
You may have a power short
Measure the resistance between the display backlight leads
And between the ground with the testpad of the vibration motor
What was the problem?
@bronze flame
Success
sweet!
@dawn hazel I bought a guitar pick
if you have any questions and wanna do it tn just @ me
Okay
i am available to help
Also this is what worked good for me instead of removing all of the solder for the screen I left a decent about on so it melts all the way around and just go from side to side moving it out more and more
did you cut the end?
Yeah it makes it a little easier if you wanna do that
will it work after i cut it?
Depends how much you cut off
alright
Aslong as their is still the pad for solder to touch then itāll work but if you plan on using it after I would not attempt cutting it
okay
I remove all the solder so i have enough room to cut the old backlight contacts off
Then i add a little bit of solder back to the pads, heat up the solder then push my guitar pick in between the lcd and the main pcb
@sleek narwhal do you have the model number of your flipper? It should be on the box
i honestly have no idea where i put the box
why do you put some back?
So i can melt everything, solder sucker leaves some solder
yeah
You just need to make sure you have enough solder on it so that it is all one joint that way it melts all around it cause if you have gaps it will still be welded
@sleek narwhalhttps://github.com/Z3BRO/Flipper-Zero-RBG-Backlight/blob/main/Firmware%20Patches/RGB-FW.patch
compiles without any issues on squachware
THANKS
im compiling on dexv0 rn
it seems like it wont compile due to an animation issue
@sleek narwhal
yea dexv0 dev is fucked
try the other one
yea
what fw?
Dexvmaster0
dexv0 or dexmaster
Dexvmaster
hang on im installing rn
works fine for me
@bronze flame how do you have your firmwares auto update?
can you show me how to replicate what you have done
I started a Raspberry Pi server that pulls updates with Git and builds the firmware
Well this certainly looks like something Iām going to have to try.
Would GitHub workflows work..?
No, I don't plan to
@dusty gull could we get the dimensions of the Flipper Zero R04 (02)'s backlight? or a pcb file would be even better.
I do not remember the revision of my display, but maybe the dimensions of my backlight board will help you
That is the R04 (01) backlight, but thank you! These should help
cool!
@upbeat lantern what rgb sketch do you use?
m?
for like testing the pcb's
any from neopixel library
ok thanks
@sleek narwhal i can show you my testing rig
sure
I just use a flipper and the original fw that uses pin a7
Then power the board off of 5v and gnd
yea that works too
could you give me the patch or the update for the old method?
Sure! Not at my laptop rn but i will
okk
@sullen shuttle
ty!
Looks like bad contact. You can try to re-solder the board, or replace the middle led
Yea im desoldering it now
Also does it need to be the rfid charger or can it be any ground?
Just resoldered and its all alright @upbeat lantern
@safe stone
I don't wanna flood it
I am
I am now part of the RGB family
@dawn hazel would you be willing to sell/ship one to Canada?
yep!
I have raised the popularity of this project
Kinda funny the OP of the thread took this long to get it done lol
You're a bitch
You are what you eat.
I do eat bitches
Thank you, i can eat now.
good
Just tested patch file on new firmware updates, everything still works!
can i hab
just the files
Patch file
Yep! those work great!
Okay it was a newer model so I wanted to make sure that it would work
How much would this mod come if I had nothing to work from at the start
Do you have any soldering skills?
Price wise?
Assume $15 for shipping of the board and $20 for a cheap soldering iron plus solder. You will also need a guitar pick and a longer PH00 screwdriver. If you plan to do more projects like this in the future you can invest in the Minnow bit driver kit from iFixit (~$25.)
So around 50$ hmm Iām kinda a newbie at tech so š idk if ima mess it up but ima try it after making some money
Just make sure to be careful and use the right tools from the start
That's the most important part
Wait wdym
I would NOT recommend starting out on a project like this, if you have no previous experience with soldering i would not be surprised if you destroyed your flipper. We are all willing to help but please do proceed at your own risk. (No one here is responsible if you flipper is damaged in any way during or after attempting the mod)
Oh alr what could I do for a starter then
yeah, don't use a shitty screwdriver and some pliers
Bro ima be honest idk what either of those tools are is that a drill maybe? Idk š
What should I use then
Yea no... Do something else as a first project. Not to be rude. But like you will genuinely murder your Flipper.
https://store-usa.arduino.cc/products/make-your-uno-kit?selectedStore=us havent had a chance to grab one of these, but they seem like a good starter soldering project
You don't need to grab one
I mean, it looks fun
@harsh kite if you can build one of these and it works without any issues, you should be able to do the mod
šā ļø
Hmm alr
Iāll give it a shot š
Good luck brother
But my soldering is shit
mine to but i did the mod just fine
@wraith yoke
Oh hi
hi there!
I'll look into this :3
Although I'd not want this to be my first solder job at all. Probably gonna get a dev board and try some other stuff out.
let us know if you need help with anything!
Iām gonna actually do the mod tomorrow
Got one from @upbeat lantern
Ah ok
Well, i wish you the best of luck!
Thanks I know I got this
Feel free to ask if you need some help, someone should be able to help ya
The only question I really have is whatās the best way to cut the contacts off
What do you mean?
Cutting the contacts off the PCB
The old backlight pcb?
Yes
How far down do you think I could get and still have the original pcb work?
Thatās the last question, I promise
You guys cut the contacts?
I shoved a knife under the LCD and pried while applying the soldering iron
That worked?
I have a guitar pick
Use that
I may be dumb, but at least Iām not that dumb

That works, it just takes a fuck ton longer. And i have absolutely no clue how you didnt destroy your flipper, its a miracle it turns on.
And PLEASE DO NOT USE A METAL PRY TOOL ON YOUR FLIPPER, IF YOU DO EVERYONE HERE WILL MAKE FUN OF YOUR STUPID MISTAKE. WE HAVE WARNED YOU
It works tho
If anyone else did what you have done, it 100% wouldve killed their flipper. You are so fucking luck with everything.
I'm just that skilled
Whatever you gotta say to yourself
I used a screw driver to take apart the flipper zero once
I think everyone has
So has everyone else
I, luckily, didnāt ruin any traces
But like as a pry tool...
No I mean, fully take it apart
That's something special
Bc I donāt have a guitar pick at the time
So did i? You dont need a pry tool to disassemble the flipper lol. Just use your hands
That's what knives are for
I almost forced a screwdriver under the LCD
You are mentally unstable
I have completely lost faith in your ability to do the mod, i shal pray for your flipper.
I couldn't tell
/hj
Dw I have a plastic guitar pic now. Rest assured
did you not break anything?
No, he broke many things
I thought you fixed it?
well that makes sense
How do you expect me to fix that?
A crippled zero
With a soldering iron, and some skill
The antenna snapped
does it even work now?
No, it looks like you just ripped the pads off the board
What do you think?
no
Nah sadly that isn't the case
well Iām sorry about your loss
Just build an external cc1101
And I'm sorry for your stable mental stability
š
Itās too stable š
Just packaged an rgb board for a firmware dev!!!
Nice
Will the gerber files for the PCB on the telegraph tutorial page work for all FlipperZero's? This is the version I have according to the box (FLP-Z-W-R02)
The rgb backlight pcb was designed for the RO4 (01) model flipper, RO2 is a pretty old version. Not 100% sure if the current design will work.
@dusty gull, were the only difference between RO2 and RO4 frequency restrictions?
Yep! Should be
Dumb
Dumb
Yep! It should work just fine.
Could you send dimensions of the RO4 (02) lcd? so i can make a pcb for it.
Is there a difference between the LCDs? BOM says the PCB is 93mmx70mm and the screen itself 71mmx39mm.
The lcds are they same, but the led placement for backlights are different
Those numbers should be correct then for the screen itself. Unless octopart is wrong.
Me too I almost ended up in your situation I used a really powerful drill and a new bit for a stripped screw went off to the side and hit the antenna luckily it when through the gaps
See but I actually destroyed stuff with my drilling š
I like breaking stuff
I dont
Same
I think I broke my flipper zero
When I take it off the charger it instantly shuts off
Iām gonna have to check all the connections
turns out there was no power to main board
Yea no, thats an easy fix
it was I forgot to plug it back in after lol
except when you fried your bms chip
make sure to not break that
not an easy fix
donāt you just have to solder in a new one?
It sounds easy doesnt it
@sleek narwhal I canāt get the lcd off the flipper
I cut the contacts and got most of the tin off them
@dusk karma
Did you watch my tutorial video?
Add more solder to the contacts
Shove a guitar pick between the LCD and PCB and pry while touching the tip of the soldering iron to the the contacts
Then use a guitar pick to pry while heating up a contact
okay
Alternate between the contacts
Why do I have to?
Because it allows you to heat up all the solder that is still on the pcb
Could I not just push down on one contact and put the guitar pick under and wiggle it?
It doesnt work very well
We are telling you what works, listen to us
All of us have done this many more times than you have
Okay
I mean-
I did this
@dawn hazel in the video how does your pick slide right underneath the main pcb?
Mine doesnāt slide in that easy I have to force it in
I use a thin pick
i have the ifixit picks
Oh mines thicker
You know what Iām just gonna stick a razor blade or knife under it

Donāt worry I had to go before I could
But when I get backā¦
i mean if you dont care about the original backlight pcb sure
still
not recommended
You will break traces on the main pcb
I doubt thatāll happen
Okay, but im 100% going to laugh at you when you break smth
And why is there traces under the lcd?
Because it has other components-

do it the right way or don't do it at all. especially being that if you break something you won't be able to get replacements yet

Just buy like one of these and solder the antenna to your flipper
Thatās why I have 2 flippers
No, thats why you do it the right fucking way.
All of us here have MUCH more experience than you, we might know what we are talking about.
I mean you don't have to listen to us, but you should.
who knows
I have two legs, but I still shouldn't point a gun at one of my legs and pull the trigger
Wise words
it might heal
unfortunately Iām stupid
You don't have to be
ok
Then Iāll be smart and resoulder the contacts and use a pick
Like you said
I have to
š± š» š± š„š
¾ļø
@dawn hazel @rancid quarry
I resoulderd the contacts but my pick canāt fit under it
Iām gonna take a bit of the plastic off it so it can slide under it easier
I know nothing
I just know when people think they are doing risky things, but disregard the risk when doing it wrong
okay
Hey @cursive violet, yk how [fw that you dev on] has asset packs for graphics and whatnot, think something like that would be possible for the rgb fw?
Where instead of graphics and icons its color packs
thought about making an external application for it this way it is all in one sorta deal
and would be compatible with all firmware
that would be so much better
Neat thread! I have a few non-related electronics projects on my plate right now but I plan to revisit this later š
sooo i did a little something for people that have the mod https://pastebin.com/NuByyrTt
Pastebin.com is the number one paste tool since 2002. Pastebin is a website where you can store text online for a set period of time.
Make pr
Dex did something
@sleek narwhal did you ever do the install?
Knife probably went through his pcd
yeah
no, didnt use a knife

Like the constantly changing one?
Pcb*
Yea goingh0st I think made a custom pcb that might make it easier for ppl to install leds
How so?
Idk but itās on Reddit
Send a link
Yea I just added a comment asking about the deviations
Ty
Because I personally do not see how it could be easier
It has to be small which is the main cause of pain
Yep
iām interested in that resin case if that is a fixed version. i want a transparent flipper case very bad ahahaha
same. transparent case with the RGB would look SO good
Fr
Take this out of this proj thread please, try to stay on topic
Ohh sorry I thought I was texting on his topic
@bronze flame there is an issue with the backlight fw, when you reboot the device it does not save the backlight color
any idea what could be causing that?
@cursive violet has been trying to figure out why it wont save
What firmware is used?
doesn't work on any firmware running latest.
storage saving seems to have changed. it doesn't write the file. it can read but not write it
and if you don't have the file at all, it just defaults to array 0
I could not reset the hardware to the camera because one hand is free. When you press left + back, the color is saved
for us it does not save
I can perform any action and everything works great. Installed the latest firmware version from my github
Tell me exactly what version of the firmware you have. Show device information
No, I just don't remember them anymore. I haven't coded for a long time, version updates happen automatically
seems like a file must be missing. it doesn't give this at all on latest releases
Are you using the original RGB firmware or the Flipper Police version?
https://cloud.quenon.ru/index.php/s/cThZsaSw7llCYrG?path=%2Fofw
Install any version from here, this is the original RGB firmware and tell me if the problem persists
i think i may have missed bringing a file over, im comparing fw's now
i grabbed the files from z3bros github and dragged them into ofw and all other big cfw no go on any of them
ill give that a shot rn
z3bro's (Flipper Police) firmware - is not original RGB-fw
the things i have on my gh are the files i grabbed from your fw, im comparing dictionaries rn
yup it all works on your builds quenon. z3bro just being dumb
lol perfect re-wording :3
lurker

No need to offend z3bro, he tries for users of other custom firmware š
i'm just joking around with him i know haha
fuck you

i am fix
noob
Ngl this mod on red makes it so much better in the dark for my eyes
