Qq for you AM5 CPU pin experts. I am pretty sure this pin is missing/problematic and I was wondering if anyone knew which PCIE lane it relates to. I think its PCIE_RXN [27] but I don't know what isn't going to work.

If you are lucky, it's a VSS pin. If you are unlucky, it'll be either Memory Channel A or B. If the pin is not contacting other pins, you can try and find out.

#

I can't identify the specific pin, since the image resolution is a bit too low for me. Could you take one photo that is straight on, up close to the affected area? I just need to see two borders so I can count it properly.

Can't get any closer?

limpid finch
#

how do you tell which part of the diagram is the lower left side?

#

one sec i gotta take another one then

unkempt ingot
#

I read it wrong lol. I reference this image for the orientation, then read the pin map.

The CPU is the B&W diagram, the motherboard pinout is the coloured.

limpid finch
#

yeah

#

is that picture better?

#

I think this is PCIE_RXN [27]

#

but I don't know which PCIe lane that is assigned to.

unkempt ingot
#

Those pictures were worse not gonna lie lol

#

But it looks like you have a second messed up pin

limpid finch
#

yeah ther'es another bent pin but I can bend that one back

#

I ain't sure I can bend the one that I shows ya back

#

that's the one I am most worried about

unkempt ingot
#

The one in question is a VSS pin.

#

You do realize you can just plug in the CPU & find out, right? You don't HAVE to fix it?

#

The only caution you need to take is to make sure the bent pins aren't shorting with another pin.

#

From there, plug in the CPU like normal, and test the system to see if it functions normally.

limpid finch
#

I think you are a little off

#

cuz the shorter side is on the other side

#

oh wait.. no that's why you made the dots no?

#

whoops hold on

unkempt ingot
#

Nope. Note the triangle.

#

The B&W diagram is the bottom of the CPU.

#

And so is the coloured one, as it turns out kekw

#

Oh no, that one is backwards, due to the notches at the top and bottom. Got it backwards

VDD_MISC pin

limpid finch
#

oo maybe i am lucky then

#

what does the VSS pins do? i thought they were for voltages or something?

unkempt ingot
#

VSS = Voltage Source Supply. A lot of them are redundancies. VSS is typically a ground pin, while the VSS_MISC is quite important. I do not think you can risk any of them going bad—can be PCIe, DMI, other circuits, so on...

limpid finch
#

thanks for showing me that the triangel really helps

unkempt ingot
#

They're both ground pins, but I think the MISC is just basically an isolate ground from the rest. Hopefully, you can sacrifice that one.

#

Also, I will re-iterate once more—DO NOT try to fix any of the pins, until you have actually tested a CPU in it.

#

Only make sure a pin is not shorting with another.

#

You risk more damage fixing a pin.

limpid finch
#

are you sure it's not the one above that one?

unkempt ingot
#

Maybe. I can hardly count from the low res

limpid finch
#

i wish i could send higher res.. but ther'es a size limit on discord

#

so you know what that PCIE_RXN 27 pin does?

unkempt ingot
#

You can take one and count yourself now at least! :D

unkempt ingot
#

That's really all I know. I won't know which PCIe slot it would go to.

limpid finch
#

yeah but my terrible question is.. which one is it LOL cuz I can't tell

unkempt ingot
#

This is where you have to TEST THE SYSTEM AND FIND OUT

limpid finch
#

yeah but gpus are very expensive

#

and so yeah it'd be nice to just throw it in.. but I don't wanna risk something expensive if I can figure it out beforehand.

#

or it could be a storage drive...

unkempt ingot
#

You don't have any GPU at all?

unkempt ingot
#

Again, you only have to make sure it's not TOUCHING another pin.

#

I would just go ahead and put the system together as a test bench, and find out if it works.

#

If it does, slam it into a case and worry no more

limpid finch
#

ok thanks

#

tis gonna be funnnnn
