#-9060XT

I tested the xfx 9060xt oc 16gb. On my LG 45 ultrawide. And all was fine. Sorry thats as close as I can get
What kind of question is that? What do you mean if it can run it?
Will that video card be able to run the MSI monitor which is a 5120X1440 curved OLED that can run at 240 hz...does that make more sense to you?
Yes, it would. Why would it not?
Both the GPU and the monitor come with a manual. Try reading it some time.
Wow, if that question offended you, just leave the post. No need to be rude
I was not trying to be rude at all. I have not purchased a video card for this monitor and will not have the monitor for 2 more weeks. I am currently using a Gigabyte 2070 Super which does well for 1080p and 3 27" (as 1) at 60hz I have looked at the specs and Google AI which seems to show that a 49" ultrawide monitor typically has a resolution of 5120x1440 can work with the 9060XT 16 gig. This is a demanding resolution that sits between standard 1440p and 4K. Once again, I apologize if I have anyone...
@weak swallow I was not referring to you I was referring to the person who was mad that you ask a question in a tech forum
Low effort question.
Read the appropriate product manual for your answer. As an example, this is for the monitor you mentioned:
In the GPU you want to get, verify it supports the mentioned protocol + version, as that defines the allotted bandwidth.
This information can be found in the product's manual.
As for whether the games you play will actually run at that resolution + refresh rate, find benchmark videos for the applicable game, at the same or similar resolution. It will heavily vary from game to game, from setting to setting.
Games will run at drastically different frame rates, especially at that resolution.
Even if the game wouldn’t be able to be run at that resolution wouldn’t they be able to use frame gen or even upscaling? Sure the quality won’t be as good as native but it’s an option, no?
His question's super generic. I have no idea what his expectations or requirements are for it.
Correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t running a monitor at X resolution and X Hz on idle or browsing, wouldn’t that be completely different to when gaming?
Yep
Wait, actually driving just the resolution & panel refresh rate? No. They would be the same.
Idle/browsing, gaming, with frame gen or upscaling, etc., it will be the same.
5120 x 1440 p @ 240 Hz requires a bandwidth of 48.49 Gbps, assuming 8-bit color.
If this is any help: I own the same card, though a 2560x1440p monitor, and games run very well where most are on high settings and maintaining avg of over 100fps (hogwarts legacy, snow runner). And some other slightly under 100 (KCD1, Shadow of the tomb raider)
Yeah but isn’t it way less taxing on the gpu than gaming?
The bandwidth requirement is halved.
Depends on which part. And again, OP provided no context, clarification(s), expectations, etc.
For simply driving the pixels and refresh rate, the load is the same. For actually driving graphics/HW acceleration, no, the loads will be drastically different.
This will sound super stupid but if driving the pixels and refresh rate, why doesn’t it show as “high” load in the gpu section of task manager?
Means nothing. Task Manager is very inaccurate when defining load intensity.
But it does show “high” load on the graph when running a game…
One of the tasks that a GPU does is "simply present" what it has calculated. The "simply present" requires effort from the GPU to push the data through, which remains fixed at all times, and is dependent on the total resolution & refresh rate it has to push.
The calculation of what each pixel is, models, etc., are separate tasks, and those are typically what people look at for loads.
Ye, just pure nonsense from Task Manager
Which is also what task managers gpu graph shows?
Ye. It's mostly nonsense/inaccurate
Gocha
It's why MSI Afterburner or GPU-Z comes with the data it does.
Would hwinfo show the same info?
Assuming they use the same style of hooks to poll data, sure. They will all show similar data—not the exact same.
Hmm I’ll have to take a look then, got me curious
Anyway I digress, didn’t mean to stray off the intended convo 😅
yes
Thanks for all the information and also apologize for the vague question. I have learned a lot here and will use it. Still looking forward to the 49" OLED monitor!!! It will be interesting to see how the 2070 super runs it...jus saying. Have to save up to get the video card.
The 2070 will not even allow the monitor to run at 5120 x 1440 @ 240 Hz, as the card only has HDMI 2.0b / DP 1.4a. If the monitor supports DSC, you will be able to run it over DP 1.4a
To maintain the same resolution, you will need to lower the refresh rate to 120 Hz, if you want to use DP 1.4 w/o DSC. It will still be unable to support HDMI—you will need to lower it to 60 Hz for HDMI.
my radeon r7 260X(?) runs 4k for my minecraft server hosting machine; pick your car for the track
would it game at 4k? hell no, but for simple desktop and server applications it's more than adequate
You still haven't said what you are wanting to use it for.
Are you trying to game on it? If so;
+What graphics settings?
-Everything turned up?
-Everything low/medium?
-Ray tracing?
Just basic hardware acceleration?
I will be using the monitor mostly for reading/writing with Logos software and MS Word. I also do some gaming with MS Flight Sim 2020 and DCS. I am aware that the 2070 will not run the monitor correctly and also know that everything will have to be scaled down on the monitor. The settings for the 2070 will have to be on low settings and will most-likely be at 60hz until I can get a new video card. I just put the cart in front of the horse so to speak.
well in that case the card will do just fine, as for playing MSFS, idk if it will run well on that resolution. ive seen some benchmarks a while back and they were atrocious to say the least...
Dunno that a 49" curved QD-OLED (basically equivalent to two standard 27" 1440p stitched together) is a great choice for "mostly for reading/writing with Logos software and MS Word".
You say you're currently running 3x 27" 1080p (so 5760x1080) displays at 60Hz, does the 60Hz bother your eyes?
Have you in person looked at productivity apps like you describe on a QD-OLED and the text fringing doesn't bother you?
It will run fine. For MS Flight Sim & DCS, no, you will get no where near 240 FPS at that resolution. For DCS, I cannot speak on it, but you'd be lucky to get even 60 FPS on MS Flight Sim.
It's a great setup for productivity with just a single monitor
Thanks all, time will tell for sure
Agreed, it can be.
I'm currently stuck with a 34" 1440p UW with my work laptop and not particularly thrilled with the curve, but that's a "to each their own" sorta thing.
You have to position yourself relative to your monitor at a distance where the curvature matches your field of view. The curve is physically not possible to be seen if done correctly.
I don't even get that framerate with the 2070 setup now with MS 2020 with 5760x1080 at 60hz...average around 25fps
Yes, that is expected
The 9600 XT would struggle at that resolution as well.
I understand that too...I don't fly very often and just take in the scenery. Once again thanks for all of your help sir!
MSFS is notoriously CPU heavy. All that "world asset" stuff is processed on the CPU, lowish frame rates are a reality on even high end GPUs.
Wouldn't be as much of an issue at that resolution. It'll be GPU limiting.
not only that but arent all the assets loaded from the MS servers or something? like jay did a test a while ago when it released and if you didnt have a fast enough connection textures would just cut off
The 2020 flight sim is all on the hard drive which is over 435 gb, flight sim 2024 is on the MS servers.
oh ur playing MSFS2020? nvm then, forget what i said
that resolution is hard for even a upper end card
just all depends on what you consider acceptable gaming fps
Honestly, just as long as it is not jittery is fine with me
It might be. Depends on the game really.
We are talking about MS Flight Sim 2020, it’s ok with the 1080 @ 60hz with my old rig
I can't get it to work properly on my rig - at least the Dune DLC which I wanted to play. The main game might work fine. It frame spikes in a very constant and annoying pattern - only game that does it.
I haven't found the cause, yet - doesn't have to be the GPU, might be anything on my system as far as I'm concerned.
Ye. Your overall resolution increase isn't too much—about 17%. As massive of a jump a 2070 -> 9060 XT is, I would not expect too much out of it.
Also, enjoy the driver & software shenanigans
Oh gosh, thanks. I will see what I can save up and maybe catch something better on sale!
Might just be me but ever since I’ve had my amd card ive never had any issues with the drivers 🤷♂️
AMD drivers & software just suck in general—you can find way more people complaining about them vs. NVIDIA.
i think that's a bit less true with the last couple gens
given, nvidia is a much larger market share than AMD but i've seen a LOT more issues with recent Nvidia drivers
has there been a truly stable nvidia driver SINCE 566.36 last December?
It's most likely to be a temporary & minor setback. I doubt this is going to go for the rest of the year
Ye, most of the updates since April have been fine from what I've heard
I've tried over a dozen on my 4080S since then, and ALWAYS end up rolling back.
but I also get it that people just don't post anywhere when everything's fine.
ive had no issues with my 4080 and any drivers
most my bugs are because of diff resolution monitors which is fixable by just having windows reset the driver
Untrue - these days it's the other way round. And my AMD driver experience has been stellar so far.
I fear this is gonna turn into a similar debate like with IOS VS android 💀
Ngl one should use the gpu they want/give them the performance they are searching for
From which brand all just depends on how much money they are willing to spend
Though that got me curious, what feature/finction specifically are you referring to?
if google gets their way it'll be iOS vs iOS
iOS vs iOS 🤔
First time I’m hearing that lmao
google wants to remove 'sideloading'
Ohhh right
Hah gl with that in the eu
If Apple was forced to allow it in the first place I doubt google will have the power to remove it
how nice for the europeans
won't stop them from doing it in the US though, where apple has a roughly 70% market share
Yeah I kinda feel bad for yall Americans
me too
a recent ruling here said feeding an LLM with copyrighted works was allowed
china taking notes
lol
i rather liked some of GNs arguments.. well they needed it for profit like the homeless guy needed to steal food so he didn't starve or the average american needed to steal a car to get to work
but it's okay because they asked to pay for it first and realized that it would cost too much and required too much effort
the double standard is pretty clear is all
Your personal sentiment means nothing. It's for the general consensus. There are more issues with AMD than NVIDIA.
It's not a sentiment - it's experience
Driver stability, features not working (FSR, Anti-Lag, etc.), monitor issues if you have more than one, flicker, restarts, etc.
The one who seems to talk out of personal sentiment is you.
Different sides of the same coin
Nah, you can still find more complaints on AMD's GPUs, despite the uproar of issues across the 40- & 50-series, as well as NVIDIA having way more market share
No, I've been doing a deep dive into my games library consisting of games from all eras of PC gaming.
It's working very well - and for old games even better than the old ATI HD 4890 I once had.
And new ones aren't an issue at all - expecially when it comes to drivers.
Even some problem titles on old Unity engine versions work exceptionally well - actually better than on my RTX 2070 although that one would be more period correct.
Your personal experiences doesn't matter, when it comes to average out experiences from thousands of people...
Tbh, what you can gather is likely personally biased unless you have some actual data to prove your point
I should be able to do that for you. I should be able to get some quantitative data by the end of day Friday.
Knock yourself out
Honestly, no, it was just messages I've seen here, posts, support tickets, things like that, of actual issues, not "I feel this, I feel that."
Yeah, but those can be just a badly build system. Recently we had someone here blaming his Radeon GPU when he bought Intel optimized RAM for his AMD CPU and had crashes.
I can show you just as many issues from Nvidia users. That's not reliable data.
Or just some failed overclocking attempts, badly maintained OS, you name it.
i can say midnights not wrong
its main thing that steered me away from a 7900xtx, because all of reddit was still having troubles with stability
so to that response its basically my logic is does the card like your system if it does then your smooth sailing
Guess who also does that with their systems... NVIDIA GPU owners...
Your arguments are already negated by the fact that... NVIDIA GPU owners will do the exact same things AMD GPU owners will do.
You and I are part of a severe minority—we are technical enough to know what to do with our systems.
But the rest of PC users? They are distributed (percentage wise) the same way between Intel, NVIDIA, AMD, etc. They'll throw crap together, and be shocked when crap comes out.
NVIDIA GPUs will get the same hate & blame AMD GPUs will, even when its not that piece of component's fault.
As far as I know, "Intel optimized" vs. "AMD optimized" RAM is just snake oil lol
Apparently using the wrong one can actually lead to a crashing system when used with the wrong platform - at least with DDR5.
I guess it might actually mean something with DDR5, I bet they're using different timings.
DDR4 & DDR3 were champions. Like an ol' classic truck that cannot be killed
Put in junk timings & speeds, and she'll run
DDR5? Ohhh nooo, it's off by 1 ms, I can't turn on
@burnt stone I finally got the 49" OLED monitor and the 2070 super can run at 240hz. But like you said the frame rate in MS2020 is horrible, but it still looks good and is smooth enough for flying. I like your verse on Jude 1:23, that is exactly what he was doing. Thanks for showing that.
The frame rate numbers would be low, but I don't think you gave a numerical range of what you were wanting/expecting. But glad to hear you're getting the performance you want out of it
