what do you consider over heating?
also what cooler
a picture of the inside of your case with a flash would be nice and without the glass side cover in the way
When a warning pops up saying the cpu is overheating

does your aio running properly? i mean the pump
120mm rad on a 5700x would probably run hot
that isn't much better then a stock amd cooler
i guess so.. but it shouldn't over heat while idling tho
it maybe run warm but not over heat
different case if it over heat while stress testing
I wouldn't think so, but if it's at idle either it's out of water or mounted wrong or the paste is garbage
I would give the aio a shake test aka unbolt the rad and hold it up and shake it and see if you hear anything, if you do not head anything or the sloshing is loud and violent, gonna have to conclude the rad is dry and it seeped water
i'm thinking more of dead pump, not enough/uneven mounted pressure, or if it new aio maybe forgot to remove the plastic sticker on aio plate
there is that also, but without hands on all we can do it ask for pictures and make suggestions

I'd hate to ask him to remove the pump and see the plastic stuck to the plate or the cpu and curled up from the heat
cause it performs perfectly for my 9700k

though it IS a 120 AIO on a 5800X.
a $25 thermalright would cool better.
sounds like he's re-using it from the intel build though, so kinda unlikely the protective plastic is still on the pump block.
I agree, my first concern was the 120mm aio it's not much better then a stock aio r5 cooler

An AIO will fail in one way or another eventually anyway.
I just presume that this is this one's last breath.
Well I put the old stuff back in because I’m not gonna be able to get a better aio for a few weeks at least

I made an ‘X’ with paste. There was more than enough
otherwise go air with the prism for 37

the gooey spot on the right is just a filler spot sincce theirs no chip
so if we were to rotate it
90 to the right the big die would be to the left in the motherboard

if i recall derbaur which is thermalgrizzly
made a offset mount for am4 that uses that design of hooking mount
to shift the aio cooler plate to the right or left for best thermal transfer right in the center of the aio cold plate
but ya if your case can take a 360 aio
and you want a quieter system go for it
since its only like 4 bucks more
if it cant fit then do the 240
otherwise go air if you dont want failing parts aside from fans
but aios will typically last like 5-7 yrs if left constantly on
Yeah, my current one has lasted about 5-6 years
actually Dap the CCD's are along the edge nearest the PCI slots
along the "bottom" edge that has the socket lock lever
this is why the AM4 (and AM5) "offset" mounts move the cooler "down" closer to the PCI slot.
well, vertically oriented in a case the RAM would be to the right of the socket, so along the bottom edge of the CPU package is where the CCD's are located.
with the IOD at the "top".
though AM5 has the socket lock lever on the same edge as the RAM
but the chiplets are still along the "bottom"
