@pastel cedar (talking about games 1/2) so idk how you feel about this MU but In my eyes it really doesn’t look good for brawler. Pythra has the range and speed to snuff out a lot of brawlers options but rm8 didn’t really do that too often. One thing I noticed kinda of off the bat was your play style. You seem to be pretty aggressive. Rm8 generally is pretty defensive so naturally he just waited for you to swing or over commit before doing anything (he rarely created his own openings by being aggressive)

You didn’t really have a problem winning neutral and getting an advantage state at all but it kinda of seemed like you struggled a bit to milk those advantage states for all they were worth. You chose a lot of high risk options when your opponent was in the corner like side b or up b and this gave rm8 quite a few chances to reset neutral if your options missed (side b worked out pretty well stock 2 game 1 tho).
In fact, throughout games one and two rm8 had a super bad jumping and swinging out of disadvantage problem. It looked like you caught on to this a few times when you anti aired him on ledge but your advantage could have been maximized if you really took advantage of that habit. So obviously anti airing but also catching his landings when he’s returning to the center, etc.

Feel free to have a conversation with me as I continue as well

One other thing I noticed is that you never really ran up and shielded in any of those 5 games. The run up shield forces a reaction from them every time, and essentially your short term goal with this to get a solid out of shield punish and in the long run, get a download on your opponents playstyle and in rm8s case it looks like he removes himself from the situation if he whiffs or hits your shield.

Ok so it's mainly aggro options in advantage state?

Hunkering down in the center ish area was probably the best way to make the best of your advantage.

#

He was waiting for an opening, might as well not give him that opening and wait for him to come to you

#

Walling out essentially

#

I can write some more things down about the later games if you want @pastel cedar

I’m an ike main so i can give you some mu tips based on what I saw

@pastel cedar so, Ike. This mu I know is not good for brawler but it’s not impossible. I see what you mean, you were really struggling to get some good hits on ike because of rm8s camping. In these last few games rm8 is basically doing what I said earlier, he’s camping, letting you swing first or letting you over commit before making his move, and being the big sword man he is, he doesn’t have trouble doing that.

So Ike’s nair is crazy safe on shield unless parried, you were able to parry it a few times but not really enough to make a huge difference. One you’ve made that parry, you have to make sure you push your advantage to the fullest (I can’t really tell you how many times I’ve lost from making one mistake and dying off of one disadvantage state to characters like palu) That’s something I’d recommend, find a good ike (not rm8) and practice parrying his nair.

Rm8 in particular has a an ike who really loves double jumping to prevent being anti aired. In any other case, I’d say try your best to anti air ike before he can get into a position nair, but in this case that’s a little less applicable. So I’d recommend taking ike to a stage without center platforms so he can’t air camp as well (Fd, town, and kalos) Fd and kalos are also one of his worst stages because he can’t easily kill off the top as well.

Rm8 here is obviously fishing for nair, he want you to come to him and swing. But if you run up to him as he’s rising and shield, it forces him to hit your shield, tomahawk, or back up

#

When he starts hitting your shield, start parrying. If he backs up, the more advantage you have

#

Unless he tomahawks, there’s not a lot of cons to doing this

#

So mixing up between run up-shielding and anti airing is a good game plan when fighting ike

#

Hopefully this helps, and lmk if you need advice with anything else
