tbh you don't have to host it, ntfy.sh is a public instance, but i dont trust anyone. I host it by putting this in a docker compose file:

i think that caddy config is from the docs of ntfy and theres one for nginx too

as far as notifications go it just works, you subscribe to a topic and you get notifications on your phone, no matter if you choose to use ntfy.sh or a custom service
