The monitors while tiny are actually amazing media speakers. They don’t have a subwoofer yet they go shockingly low and in corners of my room go below 30hz

What really shocked me about those monitors is that they have a 1 inch high range speaker in them, like the tweeter. Which for the size is absolutely insane and it adds a lot of clarity to the sound

Beware that they need some mods to make them really neutral good.

1. Plug the bass port, it has an unpleasant and loud 100hz resonance
2. Adjust the built in filters to -3 treble and +3 bass
3. Optionally system-wide EQ them like so (DM for exact values). I initially got that EQ curve from a testing site but I later loaned a measuring mic from my uni and it was spot on basic sound color correction. It’s not a big difference, though.

Also you’d then have an actual use for your audio interface because it will come with balanced audio output, and the monitors have a balanced input. Balanced means it eliminates all RF interference picked up by the wires - it makes a small but tangible difference.

Not really. A hardware voice meter would be a USB mixing deck/audio interface combo. Yamaha makes them.

With high impedance like Sennheiser HD600s 600ohm you need something like a pre amp or a powerful enough audio interface

interface matters a LOT for a mic

especially this kind of midrange not bottom of the barrel one, especially a lower sensitivity one cause you need a good preamp in your interface

especially one that requires phantom power so you dont have to do batteries

btw, if you ever want to improve acoustics in your room, don't bother with cheap acoustic foam - it barely works, like pissing in a lake

get either expensive (and lots of) acoustic foam and mount it in hotspots of reverberations (such as corners and opposing surfaces), or, simpler, get a lot of cloth and whatnot in your room, a rug and a couch do absolute wonders for acoustics - yes we are actually taught that)

also if you want an EQ systemwide you can very easily set it up using eq-apo on windows, pulseeffects on linux and soundsource on macos

but i doubt you'll care that much about a flat sound profile to fuck with it this much

i have more issues with keyboard noise than reverberations

yea tldr its definitely not the absolute best but the pricing to quality ratio is exponential

so you might pay 2000$ for a neumann mic over a 129$ audio technica one, and you won't even notice the difference until you really get into productioni and actuall full range complete usage of the mic

again, if you don't record audio professionally you generally don't need to shelf out for an audio interface and an xlr mic, a decent USB mic is enough (which a fifine is plenty for but if it's not enough get some of the more expensive ones like the elgato ones or whatever)

they will also work MUCH better for stuff like discord and bug out far less often because they'll be made with that usecase in mind

From my point of view, as i have a decent amount of surface level knowledge about audio source separation algorithms, MAL sounds to me like your run of the mil advanced source separation algorithm like Spleeter, Demucs, MDX, etc, most likely indeed one of those or similar. However, the reason it is able to do such clean extractions that don't introduce noise (that is noticeable, they absolutely still do movie magic, denoise stuff, stretch and cut parts, mix and shuffle them around - just listen to the short film on now and then and there is a section of just john's vocals, you can hear the stretching and such - all the power to them to make it sound its best), the reason for it is that they train a custom model on vast arrays of personalised, customized, "perfect source copy" clean stems of exactly the sounds they need to separate out, like the beatles' voices, their drums guitars and basses, and even just the genre - all make a giant difference.

I am willing to bet Jackson has a team of people well versed in machine learning who are able to sort and process data and produce the best results for a particular artist

i am sure it works on generic sounds, but not even remotely as well as a 'customized' approach

in other words, cutting edge mixing engineer stuff with a vast array of money, expertise and available material

nothing is super secret either you can go ahead and smoke the docs for facebookresearch's demucs model and train your own if you want to have a personalized one for example for a specific genre, assuming you can find the data

being mono does not matter that much afaik, im not even sure those algorithms have an ability to get differences between channels, they tend to work on mono sounds just as well, they moreso look for the shape of the sound and try to categorize and split it out

for interest's sake, i ran the exact video through the most advanced demucs version i have on my pc. it is only trained on general music data to extract out 4 stems however i have a less high quality version that can also do piano and something else for 6 stems

MJ has an estate and has tons of unreleased content that, if they embrace it, could be reasonably restored, since a lot of it is of similar “recorded at home no stems for shit demos” type state

If RVC (voice cloning) and similar get better I’m sure that will also get embraced for restoration, AI doesn’t have to be all evil

For instance you could take high quality recordings from a particular time period, train a model on them, have experts to not make it suck, and then run the same person’s but low quality voice, it will make pretty darn good attempt at bringing it to the high quality studio level of precision

The fact that I, a regular mortal, have the ability to do even 10% of the same restoration work on whatever I want, is amazing

And if I do end up completing my studies, that’ll be my thesis

TL; DR, rent an extremely high cost studio, record yourself or your talent once for an hour or so just doing everything with the available vocal range, feed that to the AI and train a model on it, then sit at home record shit on your iPhone and run it through and you have incredibly high quality recordings without the need to rent a studio

Theoretically, though I haven’t seen it applied in such a way apart from fucking MINECRAFT DOOR AI COVERS, you could pull that off with instruments as well, such as train a model on a guitar performance and mix you like, feed it a raw dry guitar signal and watch it try to bring it to match the input data
