i'm trying to move my installation folder over over to my D drive bc i don't have any space on my c drive for all of my mods that would be downloaded onto it. I've tried robocopy cmd, reinstalling java and modrinth to the d drive making their own program file and such. but every time i test the run it always fails.

java installs are not meant to be portable

#

if you want to do that download the zip version of java

dense comet
dense comet
# sand sapphire if you want

from that link after the download is complete do i extract it to the drive i want all the mods to go to? if yes, do i have to put it in any specific folder?

sand sapphire
#

then inside modrinth app, select the javaw.exe file inide the extracted folder

dense comet
#

it still says failed when i run the test

sand sapphire
#

hmm

#

can you try launch a game of minecraft

#

any version after 1.20.5

#

see if it works

dense comet
#

this is version 1.21.8 opens fine from the minecraft installer

sand sapphire
#

then it should work fine

dense comet
# sand sapphire then it should work fine

previously i tried transfering my appdata to my D drive by robocopy, i have all the mods in there on the D drive but under the resource management tab it wouldn't take that data from those files

#

but the appdata is where all the mods is so thats the main thing i wanted to move over

sand sapphire
#

dont do that.

#

use modrinth apps built in transfer

dense comet
#

should i reverse it back to the original C drive?

sand sapphire
#

yes probably do that

#

dont just transfer stuff like that

#

you will break it

dense comet
#

okay appdata stuff is transferred back, i had to manually select the java 21 location to the one in the D drive. the resource management is also set to the original location in the C drive and all my downloaded mods and saved worlds show up on the modrinth app. even after that the java from the D drive doesn't seem to be working from the test button

#

okay it fails from the test but when i go to load up an instance it loads up normally, also where is the built in transfer you mentioned above

sand sapphire
#

in settings

dense comet
#

so i can create a file for modrinth in my D and select that and after i reload the app it'll transfer everything over?

sand sapphire
#

it should yes

dense comet
# sand sapphire it should yes

alright cool, i thought for that app directory thing you needed to match it exactly to the original folder for it to work lol but yea everythings moved over thank you for the help
