#I have a new PC. How do I properly move my Modrinth instances over from the old PC to the new one?

As stated in the title.

I was a fool to think that Modrinth worked like other launchers which recognized whenever valid instance folders were present in their corresponding folders. This led me to:

  1. Copying all Modrinth instances folders from the old machine onto an external drive.
  2. Transferring said instance folders from the external drive onto the correct Modrinth folder.

Modrinth does not recognize the instances I just moved in, nor does it seem to offer a way to scan or import the existing folders. What gives? What should I do instead?

Please note that I want everything to stay the way it was - icon, settings, etc - as it was on the old machine.

Partially Resolved by copying the old database filesapp.db, app.db-shm, and app.db-wal in \Users\<user>\AppData\Local\ModrinthApp to the new PC's corresponding folder.

#

NEVER MIND! Doing a database transplant does NOT prompt Modrinth to change the paths in the old DB to reflect the new paths in the new computer! This will result in new user folders being created in C:\Users!

I don't know if you jest but that is impossible with my configuration and given other things I am doing with the PC

Move the contents of your profiles folder to the new profiles folder.
Create instances in your library that use the migrated paths.

How would I link the new instance with the existing folder?

#

I just created a new instance and franken'd the old folder into the new one

I've had the same issue, were all your mod settings etc saved when you meshed all the folders together?

#

I really dont want to have to reconfigure my BetterF3 and all my mods like that manually

#

I really thought there would be some way to just sync all my instances or something, oh what a naive soul I am

For anyone wondering, I've done some tinkering and found this to be the best solution (for windows):

On old device:

  1. find old ModrinthApp folder by pressing win+R and enter %appdata%
  2. copy folder to new device by favorite means (flashdrive, Google Drive, etc, bear in mind that if youre loading via internet it will probably take a while)

On new device:

  1. Download Modrinth App (obvs)
  2. Create new custom instance and name it whatever
  3. In old ModrinthApp folder find the profiles folder and choose the profile (instance) folder that you want to copy to new device
  4. Open new ModrinthApp folder by the same means (win+R %appdata%)
  5. In the profiles folder find your new custom instance
  6. Copy all the files from the old profile folder into the new profile folder

You should have all of you mods (with configs saved), resource packs, and worlds, everything, moved over to the new device.
