#Linux Modrinth App Won't Launch

When 0.8.8 released, I opened my Modrinth app telling me to update. When I accepted the update, it said the files were corrupted and I need to reinstall. I removed it (AUR version) and installed form the AUR modrinth-app. When I launch it from the terminal I get a Segmentation fault. I've also tried the official AppImage and Flatpak, both of which also fail to launch but with no errors in the terminal. Now I've tried modrinth-app-appimage from the AUR and it successfully launches but gives the same corrupted file error. The detailed crash information says permission denied, so I tried opening it with sudo and in the terminal I got the error "Could not determine the accessibility bus address" and now it refuses to launch at all.

Can confirm (corrupted files) on ubuntu after updating to 0.8.8

After reinstall, (via .deb package), Modrinth does not show as app and is available to launch only via terminal command

I found a fix for it on KDE Neon (Ubuntu), it should work on other Distros too. So basically go to admin:///usr/bin/ (enter your sudo password) then look for Modrinth App then remove the (space)" App" in the name. So it should look EXACTLY like this: Modrinth Close out of whatever file explorer you are using and start the modrinth app using the applications panel or your terminal.

#

this was tested with a .deb package.

⚠️ Please be careful, you could really mess up your device. If you don't know what you're doing.

Swap from wayland to x11

Login and then swap back

#

Don't use the logs from inside modrinth

Will crash

Brilliant that we have this app on flathub now as it makes it universal and sandboxed and just the right thing to do. But I don't know why automatic updates are enabled on builds distributed through systems with proper update mechanisms like flatpak or linux distros. It is such a Windows mentality. Having to disable or block network traffic to disable version check and start flatpak modrinth is a bit silly.

#

I might have to scan the source and see if there is a hidden config toggle to turn off this behaviour otherwise I might have to see if I can block the check in my firewall. Hopefully the ip isn't github
