They have never had Microsoft Edge installed? want to make sure I understand correctly

strange fern
#

are they on windows 7/8, or did they use some sort of premade "debloated" windows setup to get windows? I think usually microsoft edge really like to try to install itself on windows 10

tehyre on windows 10.

#

theyre*

#

I told them to install it?

strange fern
#

which is not super related to the problem they are having, as microsoft edge is not microsoft edge webview2, but maybe could be related to why they dont have the libraries installed

thick geyser
#

Would that help or?>

strange fern
#

They just need to install using the guide above, no need to actually install the whole microsoft edge browser

It won't let them

#

They even tried running it as admin.

strange fern
#

is it the error saying it's already installed?

strange fern

ok - we can try clearing all Edge-related registry keys, but this step will be a bit tricky

  1. in search bar type in "regedit" and this will bring up the Registry Editor, running it will ask for permission, say yes
  2. From the navigation on the left-hand side, go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\EdgeUpdate
  3. Right click this folder and select "Export" just to save a copy somewhere in case something goes wrong
  4. Once you confirmed a copy is saved, right click again that exact same folder and select "Delete".
  5. Close out regedit and attempt to run the webview2 installer once more as administrator
#

sorry, sent early, one sec

#

ok, now should be good

#

and I don't recommend poking around in regedit other than to do this bare minimum steps, a lot of important information is stored there so you do want to be careful

It didnt let them run as admin
