Im not able to gain the normal drops when mining. Upon trying to mine on a new day, i get the red cross symbol on the mining areas. After spam clicking it eventually one or two ores drop. On the gem mining place after spam clicking again I got 2 drops and then the pickaxe logo disappeared. This wasnt the case on the "normal" mining spots.

I'm also having this issue! It definitely is related to the steel pickaxe as someone pointed out.
So if I have my steel pickaxe on me, the nodes will get the red cross symbol and I have to spam click to get anything. I can eventually click enough times to get drops, but it takes forever.
If I put my steel pickaxe in a chest, then it goes back to normal. Hope this helps 🙂

I'm using the Simple Pickaxe and it still happens. Its not super consistent. But I've tried closing the game thinking it might be part of the memory leak and it has not helped. This even happens with the controller so its not just a keyboard/controller thing

@elfin patio I think I figured it out...! And it applies to all tool, not just the pickaxe.
From my observations, the bug happens when you have two of the same tool in your inventory. So for instance if I have the steel pickaxe and the simple pickaxe, or the iron hoe and the stone hoe. The tools start working strangely, and multiple hits are required to get an effect.

I just want to second this, I had an NPC gift me two regular pickaxes in the mines and I experienced the same issue immediately after
