If it’s full time, you should be paid by the studio to make the game, benefits of employment included OR be given a commission/payment for a specific product. the only thing i needed out of ASA was better server resource management and utilization so i could play with my friends - which, i think it kind of manages, however, because the game itself, in many ways is basically unchanged (even from a graphical standpoint it doesn't really wow anyone) it's been a really hard sell to get many (almost any) of my friends who already own ASE to purchase the ever so slightly different ASA at the crazy price premium it's still offered at. Most of the content for ASA has destroyed so much of the PvP landscape.
Adding in forceful paywalls to use content has prevented people that haven't owned BTT or FT to even use their content.

The reality is, they've lost the PVP survival game competition years ago.
They tried to do SOTF, and that shit has died three times now.
ASE had some good ass PvP back in 2015, but after Extinction, it became notable that they lost that competition to Rust.
You might not like it, but Genesis was their highest grossing expansions, and player peak. (before the free-to-keep)
ARK lost the PvP survival race, and now they've shifted to a more PvE/Grounded type of survival game.

There is way more problems than this. Rust has the luxury of wipes that occur every couple of weeks. This allowed players a fresh start, and the breakup of mega tribes that would lock entire servers down and kill off growth on said servers. They gave players the ability to manage their own environments, and they squandered it, PVP became for established players only, new bro's either get rolled with heavies moments after they start playing or lack the ability and support to acquire resources, artifacts eventually stagnate and stop logging in. Couple this with the crippling rates of official that require you to be jobless in order to achieve anything.

I have been playing competitive games since the original Team Fortress on the Quake Engine, the PVP community got more and more toxic over time, we used to let new players establish themselves, because it meant more targets and better fights in the future, now its mega tribes completely dominating servers to the point of pushing players off the servers, then turn around and blame the Devs for a lack of players in PVP. Both sides hold blame here.

Secondly, that seems narratively pointless, and you could just...remove the simulation section of ARK-2, with ARK-3 being an alien planet. And just have what we got currently, which is fine already.
Nothing is worse then having a major plotpoint that's a nothing-burger to the overarching story that you could easily remove and nothing would be loss outside of the experience. (Fallout 4's entire main plot for Fallout's worldbuilding)

Hmm Nintendo has made the news a lot in the last few years for being very hostile towards game mechanics, suing people and patenting things which should not be exclusive to them.

Green Hell is a fun game, but after you have a few hours of experience, the game is never challenging/survival again. Compared to Ark Survival where you still have to be careful sometimes weeks into your playthrough (ie Aberration on foot, for example)

It becomes a case of why a 'simple' game like Ark can have people playing it for 10,000+ hours sometimes, vs other Survival games with 'better mechanics' are often completed/boring after even 100 hours.
Which is why I feel they should stick to mostly the same formula for Ark 2

TL;DR: No date yet. ARK 2 was put on hold a couple of years ago while Wildcard built and supports ARK: Survival Ascended (ASA). A small subgroup is still working on ARK 2. When the main team fully shifts back, they estimate ~18 months to Early Access. Best case: “hopefully within the next two years.”

What Stieglitz actually said:

They had a promising vertical slice, then paused ARK 2 to make ASA and have been “only nibbling at it since.”

Most resources are on ASA right now; only a small team is on ARK 2.

Timeline: After the full team returns to ARK 2, they’d need about “18 months of hardcore team focus” to reach Early Access — no fixed date.

Design pillars remain: third-person only, traversal/climbing/parkour, Soulslike-inspired combat (hard to balance in PvP), dynamic world events, and UGC/mod support at launch.

Dependency: ASA needs to keep doing well to both fund ARK 2 and free up developer capacity.

So, when is it coming?
There’s no confirmed release date. Once the majority of the team is back on ARK 2, expect roughly ~18 months to EA. I’m not trying to shut down “when” questions — just sharing the latest official info so we don’t have to speculate.
