Would also like to see a bit more personality to the tames, but I think to do that (stuff like scratching ears or preening, etc) you’d need to 1) dramatically reduce the active tame count for the average player (suppose you could have cryo type storage still) 2) prolly put a local check for nearby players like the “looking at nearest player” thing in ark 1 and maybe 3) ensure that at most these personalities are randomly determined frequencies of these idle animations, since an actual ai personality might be a bit of a wildly poor performer on servers with a ton of people, when with less tames per person

You prolly also don’t want tames dying constantly like ark 1 if people get more attached to these personalities. Prolly want to make most creatures work like armordoggo

In theory on the PvP side of things, getting your dino killed by another player >should< be a motivator for trying to get revenge, but it seems the vast majority of people don't have that drive. Especially given how expendable they are nowadays

In Ark from 2015-2017 I reckon, you could start wars with other tribes just because you killed their quetzal or wyvern. Now you can throw 100's of dinos away without any desire for retaliation

Yes, that’s the entire point it’s a factor lol. It’s increasing the difficulty via one factor (you don’t have tons of spares and have long cooldowns if your tames die) and decreasing the difficulty/tedium of another (waiting around/grinding tons of breeding and taming for spares)

No, compared to a human its relatively realistic how big it is. The main problem is that we have water creatures much bigger that dwarf the Meg which is completely unrealistic. For example the Mosasour some species could've been longer than the meg, the majority weren't longer and they didn't come close to the Megs weight the tuso didnt come close to the meg irl. I agree they should focus massively on water dinos now for Ark 2. The main reason I suggested the Orca despite it being only 6 million years old, it would be a great match up for the Meg, being bigger but the Orca having a similar bite force also working in pods.

ASE feels like it had soul and passion behind it. ASA flat out just feels like a cashgrab with no passion behind it at all.
While some of the QoL improvements are nice, they don't make up for how awful ASA feels.

And like I said, them losing faith in Ark 2 just based on the decisions they've made for ASA. Some think it will come out but not be good (at least for content purposes), others think it's just not real.

Oh and also burnout on ASA. They never felt it in ASE, but ASA feels more like a chore (somehow) than ASE ever did - mostly because of enjoying ASE even for all of its faults

If we are talking about 'out with the old' for Ark, I think dino lines should be tribe-based imprint/breed...
Think of a game where lines are specific to a single tribe on PvP*.
You can still raid and use other tribes dinos if you get your hands on them, but you can't breed them, nor benefit from the imprinted bonus.

It would help tackle the RMT issue a little bit, but would actively encourage tribes to do their own progression as well.

It can be hard for tribes to start off legit in Ark right now, because they feel they are behind in every line. It creates a situation where new players are heavily encouraged to purchase lines in order to compete.

imo there's two points to be made. One is "how long does it take to get from point A (primitive level 1) to point B (endgame) in progression" which I 100% agree in ark 1 has been brutally scuffed since note exp became a thing. The other, which I argue is fixable in ark 2 but might be more controversial, is how FAR point A and point B in progression are. I would love to see an endgame in ark 2 where bows and spears have some form of relevancy and there are little to no firearms

Pay close attention to Lost Colony

WC already said that Lost Colony will lead into the events of Ark 2, and we've seen as much in the trailer (Helena talking to Meeka on the planet of Arat).

My going theory is that once Genesis 1 and 2 relaunch in ASA, Bobs True Tales will reveal more narrative beats that Ark 2 will follow up on, potentially revealing a release date.

Most of what Lost Colony is wanting to introduce is what Ark 2 wants to do, skill trees, NPCs etc.

I wouldn't call small tribes a fully fledged mode. The differences were minimal (like you said + higher server rates (I think it was 3x)). Something like small tribes is doable I guess, but I don't they would enlarge the player base implementing the small tribes again. The base would be split.

Real modes to me things like the SOTF, primitive plus or at least the Classic servers.

The classic servers removed a whole tier (tek) and some dinos.

It changes a lot the meta. The small tribes doesn't.

Ark really did something special - took so many concepts and mashed them together to make an unforgettable experience. Sure, its not perfect - far from it, actually ... but I'm excited to see where the series continues and hopefully makes some big improvements

3 checks -- Left clicking, is appropriate distance away, crosshair is on certain part of dino

Or parts of the dino saddle that cover only certain parts of the body, meaning damage is not reduced on exposed parts etc

I don't understand why they never made regular melee attacks do bonus damage to dino's heads in Ark 1 for example. I know clubs/projectiles do, but melee was never given that same ability (I think)

It's more about how it feels to play the game imo. Games like Ghost Recon: Wildlands/Breakpoint are primarily in third person, but have wall hugging. Outside of a strictly combat scenario (kill em till they're dead) it allows the player to decide how to proceed further, hide from enemies (if there is a stealth game like detection system) etc.

It's a 1000 times easier to idate about things than it is to bring them into existence, but the more I think about 'sandbox' games, the more I'm coming to the opinion that it's not wholly accurate to what the tag represents.

In the sense that more attributes of a game should be considered a sandbox in their own right. Player movement, enemy AI, in a 'souls like' model, the combo attacks and fighting style of using a sword is different than it is with a shield and different when usin an axe and a shield etc etc.

Then again, I don't know much of anything about game design on the academic let alone professional level.

btt is basically cutting off a part of the game that u would expect to have when playing regularly but premium maps / DLC maps arent.

Wildcard has huge potential to improve upon the character/tribe/potential transfer system in Ark 2.
If they allow people to all have the same name/tribe name/steam name once again, they should at least have information on that player's implant that can help pinpoint their server location...

imo the solution would be more in making maps isolated, so its not possible to get raided from outsiders.
like being able to transfer to raid breaks the entire game balance because ur not facing someone directly. and people make it their entire job to scout each map for raids.

Question is how would u able to do that while still being able to transfer stuff.. 1 idea could be limiting the transfer of explosives but then u would just transfer the craft ressources to build explosives so that doesnt work out.

Well I feel like I was the only person who played Ark who actually did that tbh. Pre-transfer Ark, I would actually level up a character + raid bigger tribes, and same for the many early CrossArks lol.
Reality is without psychopaths like myself, most tribes will just sit there untouched until servers close...

u build a terminal and this creates a circular zone , kinda like a generator range, in which u can build and have infinite weight inside of it. and u unlock new terminals on certain milestones. like on lvl 50 u get a 2nd, 70 ur 3rd and last one. and u can only build inside of those.

also in palworld, the creature auto harvest ressources while inside of that zone.

having 1 item called tool cupboard that handles all the decay system basically having u "pay" every 24h a certain amount of resources depending on the size of the base u have within that TC (everything has to be connected for it to not decay)

You know how they added those Tribe Towers in ASA -- I think it would be cool for PvP in Ark 2 if they:
Had some sort of structure you can place ingame, and they officially track the longest standing one on some sort of page...
Like a page that has a list of top 100 longest lasting structure, maybe even their server number.

Would be a big motivator for pvp, to have some sort of highscores, and some sort of 'guys this tribe still has their >structure< up after 100 days, go raid it'
