#ark-2

The PvP is mostly dictated by the rpg from what I’ve seen
I wouldn't call it rpg though
Your BPs, tames, gathered mats, and engrams are the largest factor to success or failure
Is that rpg though? In game items?
Because if it is, then cod and counterstrike are big rpg games lol
many folks argue that the healing/buffing mats and the like are rpg elements
Gonna call BS on cod since materials are infinite and can’t be farmed or differentiated between players
I disagree personally, imo rpg is the mode and playstyle and gamestyle
Dmz be like, also attachements
Gamestyle of leveling up that scales you ahead of others and the environment is what I’d consider RPG
Rpg is role playing... Ark pvp has almost 0 of that
It’s entirely role playing lmao
You only find role playing in small pve groups
No victory condition means the entire mode is determined by what people want to role play as
There is a victory condition though
That is why it is called a "sandbox" because it can be anything compared to a theme focused game
My point exactly. Ark isn't rpg, it's sandbox
There is not. Name a singular victory condition in ark PvP WC has added and I’ll concede
Wiping your enemy, being the alpha of a server.
Just because you don't "finish" the game in pvp does not make it rpg
Being alpha until you get bored -> someone else becomes alpha. Oh no you lose?
Wth is the argument even
idfk
Whether or not ark can be classed as an rpg lol
Breeding alone instantly makes ark an rpg
How
^
COD weapons laughably scale you
Unless I missed a step with the new COD games it’s usually mild improvements at best
Having progression to the game does not make it an rpg though
Ark is without a doubt a rpg, there's no argument against that
On a low skill level, yes.
Correct. COD has progression, not true levels or stat based scaling
I am making arguments against it though lol
And they’re nonsense lol
Every monster RPG ever has breeding mechanics similar to ark’s (usually better)
Give me an outside source that equates level progression to rpg uniquely lol
Your argument is weak
I dunno RPG requires a Lore to follow and PVP players don't care about that
Hence Role Play
Hello everyone. Does anyone by chance have an idea when the double xp will come back
Not in ARK 2
For ark2, probably not u til the game releases I would bet
When is the release date?
Here for example we roleplay as if ARK 2 has an event even though ARK 2 is not yet released yet
Hence RPG requires lore to follow to consider as a "Role Playing Game"
ARK is not it... It may have Lore but no one follows them, hell we can transfer back yet there is no lore excuse for it
WoW for example has a power struggle between the Horde and Alliance
That is lore
Rpg games at their core require a playable story
No…apparently they just need a fictional character and setting
No
I’m asking about ark 1 not 2
Ark does not have a playable story, other than ones artificially created by the players
So wrong chat then. Return to general or ark
Is there an official release date
Imo this is the key component that makes it not an rpg
To be a RPG you have to have
-and established story that all players to follow
-has NPCs
- has an in game market that isn't a #DiscordTrade
And all of that has to be in the BASE GAME
Says who?
Based on all RPGs exist
Name one game that isn't Base ARK that has No NPCs, Story that isn't clearly explained, and hasn't have an inbuilt marketplace
And considered as a RPG
when will ark 2 release?
TONS of RPGs lack a marketplace. Monster hunter stories for example
Exactly
But all of them ain't like ARK
Your goal in Monster Hunter is slay Monsters because that is how their story goes hence you Role Play as a Monster Hunter (this RPG)
You goal in ARK is what ever you want (breed, PVP, build, etc) despite the story's goal is to Purify Earth or in case in The Island, Ascend
Monster hunter stories is a more traditional rpg game
Monster hunter has an end goal that is correlated to the game's story isn't not?
Wouldn't the ark bosses be an end goal
Not the "game ending" type of goal like any typical RPG
But in MMO RPG's case the game has to mold around the story
Not the other way around like ARK
Take WOW for example, even if you ignore the dialog, your character's race and class is still locked behind a faction because that is the game's lore/story (yes there is that passive Pandaren guy but he choose to cut his progression for pacifism and not choosing sides like the game intended)
ARK is just "make a character and off you go"
(inb4 constantly clicking the screen to shut Helena up)
You cannot just be a "non-hunting mushroom forager" in Monster Hunter because your character is meant to slay Monsters
In ARK you can be a fisherman while ignoring everything gameplay wise
You could in theory never leave Lumbridge in RuneScape
Both ark and many other games gate content behind story progression, so not sure what this argument is
the argument is the lack of ark2 stuff to talk about from devs part so there aint pointless arguments how about that, makes sense?
But if we can't argue semantics, what do we have 😭😭
Unless we can talk about "how inaccurate AF the [insert new dino concept art] here"
Because that is all we got for now
In either case, I want less of a structured rpg approach to ark2 that the steam page suggests there might be
I mean I try to mention features and the like but since so few other people step up here we are
just do same treatment as wc give to their peeps, they dont give a crap about us and ppl shouldt be given a crap about them then maybe just maybe something would change
So... Speculating as usual
As opposed to what?
I think you misunderstand wildcards stance lol
Discussing about what we officially know?
Which is a few really
They are a business and businesses can't share confidential information in the public, especially when their shareholders are nervous about the product, which is every shareholder lol
Ok so chat is dead for 90% of the time
Basically like #ark-animated-series lol
no pretty sure i do understand, how many ea discords i have join were theres actual talks about content and devs interact whit their peeps whitout any fusses about problems and whats going on whit the game their making but here "here take a pic and stfu until next month if we want to give more"
Right. So the only options are 1.) speculate 2.) argue semantics about game design 3.) ask about release date
Which do YOU prefer? I know I have my preference
For new games? I don't think so
1 and 2 are preferable
I enjoy arguing semantics here, because people generally have well thought out arguments
I don't need to repeat myself tbh and it is getting tiring, I already stated my stance
I rather wait for the gameplay so I can have something new for me to make an opinion about
Tbh, I haven't really seen much discussed about the carno, maybe I missed it
I’ve never been called “people” before
I tried to chat about the carno but people kept reeing about the carno being from ark 1 so it died
That's because you are an alien lol
I am a paleonerd and I already know ARK ain't accurate
There is nothing for me to discuss about aside from parroting myself
You needed me as backup lol, between the two of us we are pretty good at shutting down the reeing lol
Should have pinged ya tbh, my mistake 😂
Make it 3
Lotus um yea
Lotus shuts down reeing by reeing louder, it's pretty effective
He’s the counter ree ree
he's the anti ree ree
Suppression ree
You guys clean it out
10/10 imo, just keep you and bruising apart lol 😂😂
No it's usually me and bruce
i'm chaotic neutral, watching everything go down while munching popcorn 🍿
Anyway, some folks can’t see to eye to eye on the basics of civil discussion
This isn't ark 2
My man is out here not respecting his role as link and emoji expert
I am too contradictory for that
Moreso that they can’t be civil - let me ammend
i only break my role of chaotic neutral watchman when the dumbest shit is written down
Alright this chat is too calm
I'm gonna fuck shit up
There should be more aliens In ark 2 then dinos
By a large margin
Hmm. You’d argue that knowing most of what we’ve seen is earth looking plants?
or lack of imagination
Because it is earth
If it's earth ill fuck shit up
I'll nuke earth with a tek nuke
We are going to have aliens
yeh they thought they were travel trough space but was travelling trough time 🤣
I want aliens
I love to see more alien flora, but that’s a huge ask considering the average gamer probably wouldn’t appreciate it
We are all travelling theough time, and the colony ship was wandering around for thousands if not hundreds of thousands of years
Because the average gamer has an iq of 21
Why would we get earth flora on an alien planet
I’m assuming plants and animals both came from the colony ship
But why almost all environments seem to only be earth plants? Who can say. I do wish we’d see some more Arat flora focused biomes
How about completely new biomes never seen in gaming before
You know, like an actual alien planet
yh, i hope the next reveal is a new creature not from/in Ark 1 or a returning one in a unchanged Arat biome with arat plants. either a completely new dino or native arat creature
That would reveal too much
They gonna show the trike confirmed before they dare to add somthing interesting
dont think theey gonna show "new" stuff just confirm what old dinos will remain in ark2
I’m fine with confirming old creatures. I’d like to see some of my favorites like the bary come back
I'm fine confirming dlc dinos like maybey maewing
But what I DO want to see is some alien flora. We have alien geology (the rings and the floating landmass stuff) but the plants man lol
Confirming somthing like a yuty tells me nothing lmao
I’ll cry if that gliding horror story comes back
Why?
Maewings are awesome
well dont forget the flora from the 1st trailer there was some there
Uhhh, there were a few flowers? Unless you count the lizard as a plant
But most of those flowers just look like earth orchids to me
the only good thing i sough from maewing was the nurse side and thats it
Maewings were a life saver
the part they were crossing the "bridge" had some if i recall
the steam page picture with the rex starring down at santiago also seems to have 2 new plants, unless we got those on earth, i'm no plant guy
Can you put a screen cap in our discord of that (I’m at work lol)
raptor pic as like 2 flora too that i dont think exist
guys when will ark 2 come out
sometime in 2023
🍻
Sup

you have lots of time to do so
we might know more with the ark franchise roadmap next month, for now it's still just 2023
but with how wildcard has been in the past with realease dates i wouldnt be surprised if it got pushed back to 2024
Maybe they meant in their fiscal year starting in 2023. Which could start in July for all we know. So July 2024 would be possible under such a scenario.
if the year is in the trailer without it is almost certainly the normal calendar year
You missed it in the fine print.
of course
Makes no sense to announce the year based on a fiscal year. That’s something you do for share holders.
Aren't we all stake holders in our own way though?
Consumers as a whole are a stakeholder… but we’re the lowest value stakeholder in the individual
@blissful perch how much would it cost to buy 5% of wildcard stock
And ofc we’re not really a stakeholder in the decision making process (for the business). We aren’t an investor, partner, etc
I have an idea
Is WC publicly traded? Pretty sure it’s under snail’s stock now?
Snail stock is basically a fancy way of saying wc stock let's be honest
I doubt they are a public company, we'd get shareholder reports quarterly
If they’re US publicly traded yes. Not sure about international…is snail US?
I’m afraid I’ve got no idea which one if either contains WC. Any guess Jordan?
"Shi Hai and Zhou Ying also control Snail Games USA and SDE INC. through its parent company Snail Games, and SDE INC. controls Wildcard."
I think it's a complex web of companies
Ugh. But it does look like SDE inc is what we’d be after
So… @lavish rain the answer is the cost is “impossible”
But to Jordan’s stakeholder question…we don’t have a seat at the table if that’s what you’re after. Although our complaints in aggregate are responded to when WC sees fit
You pinged the wrong lotus
And for the people arguing about calendar year. I wasn't being serious about fiscal year.
Although if they are reading this, I may have given them an idea.
My idea was to buy a seat in the decision making
You can be hired at snail…though pray they don’t read your chat history
So, would it be disrespectful if I ate snails while in the SnailGames HQ?
You'd have way more influence as an employee than a shareholder.
SnailGames may want you to eat snails
Oh shit, that's what it means!
A major stakeholder is snail after all. True facts here
Isn't there a board of director?
The board would be for snail though, not WC
I know a guy
And snail effectively dosent exist without wc
So, another question
If SnailGames are comprised of snail-people, would it be disrespectful to bring a bucket of salt?
Not quite how (at least US) corporate structure works
WC is their life bread
I love bread
Right but I presume WC is beneath a snail employee who in return reports to the snail board
I'd agree.
Shifter your giving me too many ideas
Then execute them
No
Why not?
And then you execute them after they're ripe
Snail games let go of wildcard or I call lawyer
Good plan
You want Snail games to sell WC?
Yes I want snail games to sell their most valuable asset
You’re aware such a move would result in major delays to any form of ark content right? Corporate upheaval isn’t conducive to snappy deliverables lol
As painful as it is to say, we have to let it be, any change will delay everything further.
jinx
Sacrifice worth taking
That's why we go on a mass data harvest before we unshackle wildcard
Ayo, you planning on a Heist?
We harvest every piece of ark franchise Intel we can find
Can I join?
We clean out their data banks
What is your use
I'm the firearms guy
But we best get on topic before we get put on a watchlist
Or worse, the mods arrive
You're already not on one?
I've been on one
Exactly!
My friends are on one
But yeah, no. Mods are more scary then a watchlist
(for legal purposes, this was all a joke)
Incoming bonk
Nah, nah, nah. We're planning on doing a Heist on SnailGames main base in ARK-2.
@lavish rain Right Lotus?
I never said nothing but no heist
Bonk
Give me ark 2 bonk stick pls
Don't mind me, I'm watching shotgun ASMR
Noted 📑
My hope btw is that ark 2 launches with the skeletons of a lot of great systems which get filled out over time
IE, bonk stick blunt weapons and combos lol
Just saying the info they share to the general public hasn’t the same format as the info they share with their shareholders.
(We probably don’t want the same info either)
Fiscal year wouldn’t be the format used on a game trailer
Hence my plan
Most shareholders probably don't even see the whole plan
Only major ones that have a nondisclosure agreement or something
Listen raq
If the shareholder thing dosenr get me info, we will have to resort to... more elaborate plans
Shareholders will get a reasonable estimate of launch timeframe because it’s directly relevant to their investments
No you can't date complexminded

Big ones maybe
Can I date Jat?
If I was them, Ark 2 would be released by now, as early-access, with lots of beta testers, that would help funding the game and improving it. Just like they did with Ark 1.
Small ones don’t really exist for a privately owned company I’d assume
@split dove knows my plans
And this is why you're not them.
But I would make it clear constant wipes would be a thing
That’s I think the plan lmao but the game isn’t in the beta test state yet
✈️ 🗼
Fair e enough
That's exactly the plan.
Releasing it now would be releasing an Alpha
Ark2 will be at least a year in early access, so they are already doing that lol
No dumbass!
oops
Yeah, probably
I think it will take longer, I don’t know
2-3 years
This way they will have more flexibility
It's probably in some sort of playable state rn. But it would be pretty bad to have a cyberpunk level of failure on launch
I would happily play it, no matter what’s the current state
I suspect feature incomplete
They already have that flexability, just not launch until they feel like it's ready
We will get ark 2 info and i don't care how
Im used to subscribe to alpha tests and inside programs
They lose immense flexibility when it’s seen by the public
If lotus wants ark 2 info lotus gets ark 2 info
It’s nice to help with feedback
Most people aren't used to it. And it's most people that make the most money
You are probably right, it’s hard to say without more info if it would be a good idea to release it right now
I don’t know, man. Most games aren’t released finished.
It’s common to take a year for any game to be stable enough
Polished is the word I would use. Usually they are finished
And I’m not talking about early access. Just talking about “finished” games
Usually feature complete and free of the instant crash/save wipe sort of code failures
Sure if you mean content and features
That’s expected for finished titles, Ark 2 will be an early access
People shouldn’t expect a game free of issues
Even ea games have to be mostly done
Most early access titles are free of crashing/save wiping bugs
But they do, and that's the issue lol
If not free, than mostly free
People in general have unrealistic expectations of games lol
Well, I will say WC knows better how to manage their schedules. 🤣
Ok, you go first lotus
And do what? Be depressed about how terrible everything is?
I will just wait until they are ready
You fell right into my trap shifter. I hardly play games and I quit ark
But just saying I would be open to test it right now, with lots of crashs and wipes
Sorry, also no drugs. My bad
Go hunting, go fishing, shoot guns, do somthing
Lol, you must live in a nice area to be able to do that
Fresh old missouri!
I like GTA, can I…
Anywhere rural in the US can do that 👀
If everyone went hunting and fishing at once, there would soon be nothing to hunt and fish
Just look at the American bison lol
It was an example
Actually…they’d hunt and fish less than current commercial efforts
Society functioned just fine without video games before
It’s kinda insane how much seafood we harvest annually
Debatable. I don't thing society has ever functioned fine lol
They also didn’t have 40 hour workweeks until the Industrial Revolution
World population was smaller. People’s behaviors were different
Just watch what happened to the prices of everything lately
Don't. Give. Me. Ideas.
Because of an abruptly major change
That's just markets, that has always happened lol
Hear me out… WW III
Armageddon
Oooor, people just get along, we mine an asteroid for batteries, and all play video games. Easy
Just saying major changes like 7 billion people hunting, shooting etc would create a major change
Yeah, global collapse is what it would cause lol
So you saying we need people wasting their life on video games in order for society to function
I think we agree we should just keep playing games
Yes
Don't ask what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country
Not necessarily.
Also, this isn't ark 2 let's get back on topic before the men and women in yellow name tags arrive
The above is basically Ark 1 plot, how to end humans with major changes
But any argument to go back to the "good old days" forgets just how brutal those days were, and how unsustainable they really were lol, especially with current populations
Go on
Man, medieval kings lived less than poor people nowadays
Lol, no
Yes
Poor people in rich countries maybe
🔫 do it or else
Do what?
This
I’ve read studies royalty life expectancy was like 40 years
Video games are not necessary for society to progress, but hunting and outdoors is not a viable alternative anymore either
Not sure about the poor people back then, but I guess they lived even less
Those. We're. Just. Examples.
Expectancy, or average
Expectancy I think
Well, to make a change, you can't just do examples, you need concrete evidence. Examples work for counterarguments, not for proposals
A lot of that had to do with medical knowledge and cleanliness
That’s my point. We can’t just go back to the good old days with todays demands
Well, there isn't room for one, nor is there wildlife and water enough
We can go full Santiago
Consider genocide
Going primitive, living on Mars
Mars can't sustain life without earth
Not without hundreds of years of underground building and agriculture
Life finds a way
To Terra form other planets? So far it hasn't yet lol
So far it's a popculture myth.
Mars would need a steady supply line of literally everything until it got settled in enough to mass produce food, and have factories to manufacture parts and electronics. That's centuries of work in reality, unless all of humanity joined together to make it happen
One word
Not within our lifetime
Won't happen for centuries
We dont even know about natural rescorces there to make it worth it
So far we haven't even set foot there
It took like 50 years for Europeans to colonize the America's in any stable way, and they had been colonizing everywhere for centuries. This is another planet we are talking lol
It's not going to happen soon
God should just wipe the servers and start a new save
So... maewings in ark 2
Yay or nay
I mean, the modern world has only been around for like 100 years, there is still time 😂
Yes they do.
100 years ago alcohol was illegal. That alone makes it the primitive world
Ok sure, but their speed was never overpowered, never saw people complaining about maewings being too fast
Everyone not on 1x in a mega uses them lol
Maewing are easily 4x faster than anything else in the game
Nothing even comes close
Ok and
That's like the definition of speed being op lol
I'm on 1x in a mega
Maewing isn't op so it should be in ark 2
If it really is that bad they just nerf speed
more lotus schizo talk
just keep it's nany ability and remove the dumb speed force gliding
Maewing were literally added to be every qol breeding in a game that was on its last dlc. With stupid speed attached. They should not be in ark2
Yes they should
Without kibble taming? And without the speed boost? Then yes. Otherwise no
The kibble taming was the least op thing about them
I doubt kibble will even make it into ark 2
They are just in general too good at too many things
Great for a last dlc, not for a new launch
Yes for a new launch
Fuck maewings.
Let us get some Aratai's to raise our babies.
the closest to a human parent raising them
It's humanoid, so it's fine
Nothing can take maewing on in this game while it moves. Including other maewings. Also they have variety of ways to use in raids. 😉
It's same problem every card game which makes more powerful cards so players need to upgrade their decks constantly to keep up with others.
-Is it a problem?
If this keeps on going I don't think they can do anything else than keep on adding more powerful tames to game and so old ones loses their usefulness.
-Still. Is it a problem?
I don't know because I don't know what Willcards end goal is.
Keep people coming to see what has changed since last map has been added.
-Seems to work very well.
Rebalance tames?
-Not so much.
Hopefully the game isn’t 200+gb
That's a skill issue
You are hopeless if you think it won't be
Power creep has been happening since extinction, an argument could be made for aberration.
that just means avoid the balance decisions made since extinction
players dont know that they dont want creatures that are stronger than what they have
wut?
Trying to find out balance effect in games before you release update is pain in the butt.
Still we see some major problems when we add things we know will brake balance when we have an idea like Fjordhawk.
You will use huge amount time in game in order to get good line.
-Good for Willdcard
It will break all pvp because you won't be able to lose anything.
-Not so good for smaller tribes.
Example.
Mega tribe Is raiding medium one. Mega cannot lose their weapons, armors and inventory to enemy anymore and can go on and will win raid resource wise, because there is no more any loses than repair costs.
ark2 will com we just need to hop for it to com this year and if not we can hop it coms next year then
Power creep works because it exploits novelty and people going “omg that’s so damn strong”…a short term fix that doesn’t last in the long term
If ark 2 gets a life cycle as long as ark 1, I bet there will be OP stuff.
they will have to keep implementing new and powerful stuff on the game
theres some design decisions that seem really dumb to have implemented tho
like the least you could do is see where a mutation stacked tame would be along the balance ladder
20k hp fjordhawks were predictable
there is no reason these things should have existed beyond lack of care
i think they do genuinely want powercreep in their game but i dont know why
i heard that most devs dont touch pvp at all, possibly big reason
but i dont get why pve oriented devs wouldnt still want to preserve relevancy of tames they made years ago
Not at all
i only know dollie has a huge number of hours
they focused way more on PVP
i mean actually playing pvp
not including content for pvp
yes, most of the end game stuff is pvp oriented
OP certainly. No certainty we get formal power creep though
but its like they havent done the bare minimum to actually think about how some new tame will be applied in an environment
When you say power creep, you mean official servers?
you cant consider balance from tamed creatures, only near stat cap does their effect make any sense
When you complain about balance, you are basing your assertion on the official servers?
im basing it off basically all pvp that isnt specially modified
who cares about balance when they can't even make a stable environment to begin with
so yes generally just offi, but most unofficials are included
I mean, there's a huge gap between 1x rate official servers and boosted unnoficials
True. Major part of the game is with in preeding process.
I'd say they balanced the game for the official mega tribes pvp servers
even at this point, metas developed in 1x generally hold
But we are talking about 5 years old servers
i think balancing around megatribes is redundant
it's supposed to be like that
IMO Ark 2 should be more focused on other aspects, not just OP creatures
The new combat system signals to that approach
it shouldnt cheapen its own value by powercreep
the main issue is that without powercreep you have to somehow generate completely new but relevant/useful mechanics
you can atomize processes in the game i suppose, like having 300 different resources and a dino can only farm like 2 or 3
then you have a huge number of "valuable" farm dinos potentially
but that seems absurdly tedious, though it might not be an issue if most resources arent strictly necessary
this can apply to other aspects of the game like travel, combat, etc
No matter what, after a few years things will be unbalanced, unless they keep wiping servers constantly
the stryder essentially eliminated all gather dinos... which was bad move
That actually not a bad idea. 🧐
stryder is exactly the opposite of what id imagine here xd
They just have to lower the curve as much as possible
imo they will break it
theyll probably make the same or somewhat less severe balance errors
after coming back and seeing genesis / stryder they went so far left field make the game super easy
dont see balancing anything being done
Instead on fully focusing on tames, they should give us more tools/vehicles etc
as it stands their current balance cycle can be bypassed in effect entirely if they get most people onto unofficials via mod support
which would be much less of a headache for everyone
like wagons to attach on the creatures and improve their stats
or new saddles to activate new and unique features
reducing official server use and impact, get everyone onto highly customizable mod packed servers
not ideal, but itd work
i dunno after today, im disgusted with this game, so hopes on ark 2 are nul
Highly customizable mod packed servers are the way to go to have unbalanced servers
sure
90% of the plugins and mods are meant to make things OP
but at least you arent locked to one unbalanced game, you have a wider array of choices
there will always be a go to meta, and dino's will always become obsolete
each new one making it easier and easier
It's important to have both
atm ark choices boil down to 1000x, super sweaty unofficials, and official
the concept of ai tribes... i think is a huge hope/dream but will destroy the game
I know a bunch of people that like Vanilla Official servers
yes
because unofficials are too easy to grind on
or so that seems to be the biggest complaint i see besides mod abuse
Think this was where they should have kept it, and made stability way better
Official servers biggest problem aint with in too efficient people. It seems to be that people who cheat (not eploit) cannot be controlled in real time (with in 1-2h).
Yeah, in less than 6 months you will be done in a 10x unnofficial. Like having all BPs, all ascensions, all capped dinos etc.
ya
i think they are using dinosaurs for their servers
On an Official you can take as much as 2-3 years (breeding take way longer without mods and boosted rates).
though tbf at this point thats also true of 1x if you have friends in tribes
i think theres a noticeable drop in players since lost island ish
thats why mega tribes win
like after the initial spike obv
24/7 breeding / crafting / gathering
I'm talking about from the ground up
cause people are bored of the game
with help, well... It's not funny
most people dont really build ground up tmk
since you literally cannot compete without breedlines
I know, but my point above is considering that for ark 2, where people have nothing on officials
so You will need to start from the ground up
yet 😄
It's funny and also frustrating
actually playing the game how its intended
I remember taking hours to tame my first stego
then my first trike
and they were shitty as hell LOL
the whole risk reward, gain loss cycles involved in these sorts of games will actually exist without players trying to bypass all the work
itll work better in the devs image id think
and overall be a much more fun game
unfortunately i dont think this will last long
maybe 1 year
Yeah, but well, my initial point was, after a few years (the point of the Ark 1 cycle we are now, things will be unbalanced).
WC needs to slow the progression on Ark 2 as much as possible
It needs to be slow, but funny
i would like more stages on progression
Slow and annoying won't be good also
id also like less of an advantage from ascending progression curve
Yeah, that's I think they need to do
Hence why I need tools rather than everything being about tames and breeding
you shouldnt need to get 400 melee cause you literally cant do anything against a bob who spent 2 days in a beta tribe and now has a 1200 flak set and 300% every weapon+ cryofridge of tames besides club them xd
That cannot happen because Wildcard makes money only via DLCs.
We might need to take, I don't know, a month working on our progression without being able to tame max level dinos
They can release DLCs and work on a slow progression
It's hard to comment on that because we have no idea how the new features will be implemented, but it's possible
i think a lot can be done just be reducing tame cap
so no more 450 lvl cap with 255 stat cap
They might. At least I hope so as well. 😭
if you reduce stat cap at least you can reliably kill something with something you can reasonably obtain in a month
or week rather
without cheese
I think the problem isn't the tames alone. If you play official PVP you know a capped giga can be beatten easily with a good strategy.
The real issue is the bosses are just a matter of attacking with brute force and waiting until it's done
yes but all strategies require having your own capped shit, admittedly if you just use tools its not as bad
there's no real strategy behind it
you can enrage a giga with a couple weapons
idrc about bosses tbh
since you dont really need to engage with them after beating them once for tekgrams
Sure, but no necessarilly capped dinos, instead you might need capped tek bow BPs
my point is
its more available ye
you can actually get a capped bow or shotgun from desert drops
I hope the new combat system focus more on the strategy itself
instead of trying to grief a dude uploading
No more 20 rexes attacking the boss and that's it
See, it's shitty
I've seen people complaning about 3rd person only and souls combat
but it might mean the end of all this bullshit
yeah ark combat mostly boils down to clicking
i dunno how well pvp will work out as soulslike
hows elden ring pvp for example
i saw 1 video and it looked cool
but it seemed a bit limited idk
dodge spam plus 1 or 2 atk clicks
We need the change tbh
ark combat is quite dry
Shifter fell asleep fighting a skeletal bronto
oh and how many actually unique weapons there are
They implement one combat lock which cannot be turned off and ARK2 is dead.
It's more than that
It's a whole new level of movement system
we do
I can relate to that
we use autoclicks since day one for a reason LOL
Skeletal stegos are even worse bc of the tlc dmg reduction buff
I hope Ark 2 brings back the fear I had on those events
Today is so easy to kill the dodorex or the dodowyvern
Combat lock will force camera and movement towards single target when engaged in combat. Super frustrating. 🤬
oh that
It's not like the current system is super fun
yeah id imagine devs wouldnt be dumb enough to make that nonoptional
Well, Atlas is ok
and it implemented a souls like system
but did it have this combat lock
ranged weapons don't have aim lock
but melee does?
For fist fight yes
hmm
But it was optional
that doesnt sound fun, ill just chalk it up to atlas being for the lulz instead of a serious venture
oh then its fine
At this point, it's hard to assume anything
We just know about the general concept
We need the details to judge
i have hope and dreams
Which we potentially could have soon with the roadmap
is that enough
Hopefully
just another couple weeks
sometimes they come true
i dont actually have a good conception of what i want from ark2 though
i think like, bigger map, aratai automation (limited), cool animations/graphics, more important mid game, and better mods
uhh, lower cap for breeding/quality of items
When ark 2 supposed to release
in 2 days
Omg i cant wait
that or in the next couple months
its really somewhere in between hopefully
nobody knows
besides "2023"
Highly unlikely that ARK2 will be released this year and even if that was the case it would come earliest at the last quarter.
my hope vs your cynicism bro
i only have a 100% failure rate from a sample of about 4
I hope the game is so realistic looking it looks like Jurrasic World the movie
As one approaches a black hole time slows down relative to objects farther than the black hole. The plan, create a space station for wild card employees in a far off pocket of space and using tek we propel our solar system to the edge of a black hole, as not to get sucked in to it's interior. After 6 months of our time we will use tek propulsion to return our solar system to normal orbit in the galaxy and by my calculations about 5 years will have passed for studio wild card, giving ample time for ark 2 to be released.
that sounds accurate
🍻
No improved creature AI on your wishlist? Shame
They have said that AI reaction will be more real life than current which is limited to range reaction.
im moderately interested in it
#ark-survival-ascended2 has a new sensory-based creature AI! 🦖
"Animals now track and hunt by sight, sound, and smell! Hide from predators with visual camouflage and environmental obstructions, and learn to mask your scent!" 🦕
it can either be really good or really bad though
and i dont think something like creature AI will be a quick fix, especially compared to stat changes which already take weeks to implement
im concerned and excited for it, but im not sure if itll be a straight benefit
not as much as the other things i hope for
or ill say that id LOVE good ai on aratai specifically
less so with all the dinos
wonder if the new creature AI will apply to tames though
that is my main worry point
thatll be where the AI makes or breaks a lot of the game
We will see how cornered AI is going to work. Now when it is stuck it just won't give up fleeing.
I like the idea where every thing which isn't going to kill you would naturally try to hide or run a way from player.
I think wild AI will make or break the survival elements
pacman AI confirmed
will ark 2 AI be marked (as ark 1 has) by primarily just avoiding aggro ranges and baiting linear chase AI?
pacman AI would unironically be a huge boon to pack behavior
I'm thinking they'll use ray tracing for detection and "sound detection" to begin scouting AI
so if you are behind an object you won't be seen.
god I can't type tonight
right but imo that's step 1 of 2
step 2 is what happens after detection. To use the pacman example, do three raptors all chase you in a straight line independently...or do they coordinate? Do they detect you and then set up an ambush? Lots of amazing potential there
one chases, one cuts off, one random.
youd need to reduce the creatures available on a server
It would be really nice to see that everything when cornered would fight back.
true.
step 1 of 2 would already be a vast improvement. They could make them smart enough to not fall for our traps.
because of that i wonder if stuff like dino leveling will even exist in anything like the levels we have now, since itd be really fucking hard to find a max level dino if theres 30 tiers (5-150 in ark1)
and only like, 2 raptors in a render distance
When ark 2 supposed to release
I hope they have assault rifles that don't have stupid recoil patterns and ass dmg
they probably wont have ars
ark 1 never had ass damage. Torso, legs, hands, head damage
what about crotch shots
definately
ik where im aiming with a club
the gas pedal is a souls like combat move confirmed in ark 2
I know it's not the most common reference so if anyone is curious google: "gas pedal urban dictionary"
Where did you find that information?
I sort of hope the tier system from SotF is somehow incorporated
where the species has more to do with the stats than the level...it would be a nice survival game element to be able to assess threat by the actual creature rather than the (often invisible) stat distribution
yeah id like that more than what we have now
theres enough rng without also needing to roll the dice with shitty stat rolls and stuff
I believe that rng shit is one of the reason why this game has constant player base.
idk how much of that is true
or, its true for breeding
but things like getting first tames and blueprints, that doesnt take more than a few months at worst to reach capped gear
Will ark 2 have fantasy creatures
game has two modes of retention: the RPG grind crowd who wants to grind up mats and stats forever
and the repeatability crowd who keeps restarting and playing ark in different ways
Also I hate how they kept the shitty ass arms on the carno for ark 2 like whyyyy
because those are real carno arms?
Penguin ass arms
i dont really know much about the second crowd, theres a bit of replayability with pvp between the various modes and major unofficial servers+ getting wiped
as for pve i think that mostly just modded worlds
Yeah but still
I'd say a major bulk of pve youtube content revolves around seasonal resets
or showing off builds (which varies from creative or within a season)
new character, new map, new mod, etc...usually completely from scratch
That's because PvE is boring after you get built up
oh ok
PvP content is super hard to track because it's almost always on delay and can't be shared in real time without being free inside material
i mean you can be accused of insiding i assume if you release that sort of content carelessly
i guess in a way yeah
usually the issue is just getting your hidden base found tho
but yeah all this is why a lot of the larger content creators upload 1 hour movies of a month of work
though more episodic series exist
plus a lot of work is literally just grind which takes too long
This is real thing. Reason why MTS became biggest unofficial servers it seems to me for 2 reason. First is active admins and second which brought most people to it was beginner severs which did wipe every 2 weeks. (They dropped this concept and now player base will die 3 weeks in to wipe)
There are efficient people who can get level 100 and first boss fights with in 24h. Sadly I am included to those no lifers.
i mean more bland mat grinding
for kits and stuff
admittedly the ammo required for bosses does take a long time
couple hours straight
tamed velo has the damage+stam to do bosses?
this is in reference to people doing shit on arkpoc
and other wipe servers
Yeah
damn i didnt even know
Of course you'd want a high level one lol
Because it can take a while to kill them with low melee or stam but at least you don't need to farm shells
i mean yeah but i didnt think 400-500 melee and 2-3k stam velo could do it
Yeah but if the bosses decide to be stupid and run around you can't really hurt them
I've almost timed out once cause the spider was running around nonstop
xd
You can also velo the lost island monkey with a karkino and mana
Toss the velo on a ledge then have mana kite the boss to it and jump up
I think you tubers made it big lol. There is nothing inherent about mts that makes it significantly better than other unofficials
With the Notorious Car being so big, I wonder what sort of power class the Allo will fall into
is there some release date estimate out?
2023
Concept art and a couple trailers is all we got
then i feel like this year is unlikely
it was 3 years ago ksp 2 had some cinematic trailers but nothing else
now early access is realeasing tomorrow, yay
They’re planning to release a road map next month for everything in the franchise so hopefully we get a release date or delay then.
Oo cool
It doesn't look that big in the image
The thing it's chasing isn't a raptor, it's a smaller dino
it's the ark 2 raptor, might have been one not fully grown or just shrunken down for the teaser. would be weird to reveal 2 new creatures while only naming one wouldn't it? same model from the second teaser trailers raptor
Is it? It looks way smaller
might have been shrunken in size in general, or just perspective tricks for the concept. or the carno is slightly bigger compared to ark 1
Yeah that's my thought on it. Why would they reveal a new creature on another creatures concept art and not name it.
exactly, also would be weird to also have it be a new creature that looks almost exactly the same like the ark 2 raptor. if it were a microraptor or troodon it would be even smaller as well
What will be the biggest differences between ark 1 and ark 2? Except for the graphics
Combat will probably be right up there.
anything listed on the steam page, Third person only, combat upgrades, better player traversal systems, world events, mods for consoles and hostile pve forces
Mods for console will be at the top.
in 3h 30 min something gonna be top for sure
🍻
Why? Everyone in this conversation is a pc player
Rulers need to appease the peasants to prevent rebellions you see
Where exactly is this 3 hour and 30 minute timer coming from??? Lmao
only thing that could relate to that is Sons of The Forest release today
Ah, yeah, forgot that came out soon
Really interested, but with no space to store it and no friends interested in playing it (that don't currently have their computer in the shop...) I'm kind of at odds for that one, sadly
We'll see! 🤣
not imagination its just not ark 2 i was talking about 🤣
Being a good game
Potentially
Honestly its broken and messed up how you can rush the game like this. Hope servers in ark2 will be much more like the gameplay we see in the ark1 trailers and more focused on gear pre fabricator
I’m kinda iffy on that being an issue
I’m against skipping a huge chunk of the tech, but that’s done by accident on 1x even without real note runs or boss rushes
I agree, hope they've found some way of fixing it, I had a few ideas but I feel they limit the freedom of the game a bit
If someone finds a way to speed run a boss in ark 2 they need to shut it down asap
only thing that you need to farm super long for are some of the stupid expensive bps. But my hope is blueprints are replaced/removed with the component based crafting. another change to keep the playing ground balanced would be that rarer resources act like blueprint tiers (Ramshackle -> ascendant) to increase stuff on the item with hard cap increases you can't go over like +25% max over original stats for any amount of rare resources used in the craft. this kinda offers the opportunity for the player to explore so he can get an advantage over people who don't, but not something as disastrous where he instantly dominates everyone after adding it to his craft, and it still needs skill to win and the fight isn't as one-sided as Ark 1 blueprints users vs primitive gear.
Thiiiiiss. Component based crafting where items don't cost thousands of resources would also be nice lol. It reduces the overall bloated amount of resources needed, which imo has always been an issue in ark
and the increase i'm suggesting is still balanced/no instawin and isn't ark 1 blueprints with crafting skill overload vs primitive engrams gear.
Yeah, primative items need to be slightly better than ark1 varients, and the good endgame varients of prim stuff should not be 100x better like it is in ark1
Why?
it should always come down to skill, not insta wining with busted ark 1 stuff
because using something like cactus broth to cheese the aberration boss removes much of the challenge of the game.
Is it any easier than using a megalos line?
Component based crafting 👍🏽
Yes, much easier
A mobile game I used to play did it really well
No, it's not, it's just faster
the amount of spawn and those red balls is far less with cactus broth and on foot
it's much easier
If you used the hide of a zebra skin creature to make a tent let’s say
The tent would be zebra striped
Dynamic reskins should be a thing in ARK II 💯%
Ark1 bosses take no skill to beat, you can either spend time raising dinos to do them, or do them a faster way
Like suppose a creature spawns in a desert biome
Neither requires a great deal of skill
The game sees that and automatically applies a desert skin (if any)
Ark2 bosses imo should be able to be done quickly, but should require a f great deal of skill to pull off
WoW sHiTtY dEvS gAmE bRoKeN
Biome varient skill trees on dinos that can be inherited by lines would be epic
Fr
Same for items and such
The game sees hide is coming from a Sabertooth
Automatically applies stripes to wherver said hide is used
I think 15 minutes for a boss fight is good enough, but with higher skill, or more interesting plays it should be quicker than the time limit
So we agree that cheesing bosses should be stopped when found
We have a different definition of cheesing bosses
youd have a stupid amount of hide variants tbf
I don’t see the issue
For me using an archa and shotguns on the island overseer is not cheesing the boss, nor is ledging center or brood
Inventory management simulator?
issue may or may not arise with farming hide, as well as the issue with having 30 hide variants that differ only really by texture
A clear GUI which is not so bright would help with that
Also search functions exist, I know they’re resource intensive but yes
I doubt a lot of different hide varients would cause much performance issues, the inventory management and storage would be a pain though. Like primal fear on steroids
If you have to constantly use search to craft things, then that is really really bad game design
If you weren’t bothered about how you want it to look
And if you were bothered about it you could search it up and find it out
I don't think every Dino type should have separate hide.
I think there should be scaled hide, or pelt hide, or the like. With maybe 1 or 2 late game really good variations
maybe like small-medium-large, or that
Exactly!
Something like Conan imo
Size based is a no
The number of different types of resource of similar types should be reduced as much as possible, as it doesn't really add much to gameplay to have a large assortment of things that do the same basic thing lol
fungal wood being just wood+recipes was annoying
Fungal wood was okay, 27 different types of wood would not be okay
extinction added a new version fungal wood lol ''corrupted wood'' instead of just reusing fungal wood for those trees 😂
The variants not being interchangeable is an issue
I’m not saying that many
xd
Maybe hard bark, and soft bark for example
Variant? He has to mean omicron variant! Covid confirmed for ark 2!
As long as it's useful, and not the same as another
its possible to add it all in, it just needs to be implemented well
Unspecified virus of unknown origin you meant
Like a keratin/chitin thing shouldn't be a thing
so like, certain pattern hide could be useful for hiding in certain biomes
or from certain creatures
Hard bark = hard used in tools/armour
Soft bark = soft used in medicine/drugs
Hard bark and soft bark aren't a real thing though lol
Whatever just an example
I will have boxes full of random items that only have 1 niche use
Yes, that comes with component based crafting
you have 2 options, having a bunch of components that offer entirely different abilities, or having a bunch of components that can scale certain abilities
“I don’t see how that’s my problem”
— Bully Maguire
The overall number of items has to increase, the quantity of them should decrease, and there should be no replication between them
so say X hide having a whole bonus aggro debuff against some creature while hide Y doesnt, vs X hide having better or worse aggro than Y, and all of this can be incorporated alongside other materials that either offer entirely new abilities or just scale certain abilities
stats vs abilities
abilities would be hard with more compinents
stats are simpler as they are just numbers
perhaps you can have either with really rare materials
That works, but it should cost like 10 of x hide or y hide, and you should get 1 hide per kill or something
If they decrease amount of any one item required to craft top tier stuff they will just make that item less bountiful in a harvest.
That's the whole idea
True, but people like seeing big numbers, it makes them feel good
Bases in ark1 scale in size based almost entirely on increases of rates. Bases that people build on official now in 3 days or a week would have been impossible in the early days, but because of the bloated cost for bps, the rates were forced to increase as well
Inflation, even in a video game, is not something to feel good about lol
It always means mismanagement of economic balance
Ark1s issues (apart from fliers and cryos) are directly related to mismanagement of economy in creature stats, BP costs and harvest rates
It all needs a significant nerf in order to have a balance
An afternoon of harvesting will allow you to build those bps. Ark didn't have an economy really. Ark is meant to be a grinding game.
Ark always had an economy lol
The issue is that same afternoon of grinding now will also build you a stupidly large base.
That can be torn down in a stupidly low amount of time?
I wouldn't hold Ark's economy out as the main draw to the game. Trade may have happened on officials between larger tribes or beta tribes but it's not the focal point.
When I used economy in this sense I wasn't talking about trade lol
You don't need trade to have economic principles
In this case, the trade is more of an abstract idea than actual exchange between two parties
It's more along the lines of why have an item cost 1000 metal, when you could just make metal more valuable lol
"Back in my day a loaf of bread used to cost 25 cents"
So you want to make something more scarce
Eve online has a real economy and they were suffering from inflation, so they introduced "scarcity" to their resource pools to try to bring it back to normal.
A massive amount of people quit the game
People don't want scarcity, they want to have fun
Inflation in a game that breaks the balance isn't fun lol
If I can get a 1000 metal in a day, but I need 3000 metal, it feels much better to get 1000 metal for my efforts than to only get 10 in a day and it costs 30
Personally I don't agree with that
Well that's you then I guess.
I don't thing arbitrarily adding large numbers in a game makes it any better
Especially if that arbitrary high number affects other aspects of the game
No but it allows for more exact costs and stuff
Hardly
It's diminishing but no not hardly
It's kind of irrelevant honestly
big number needs to scale with the game
I will agree that stryders were stupid to add. You could get resources way to quick, but genesis 2 they threw challenge out the window.
But please explain to me why more scarce items are easier to balance around?
Without a BP system like ark1, there is no point in having exact costs of more than say 50 or so
its why having exponentially more effective end game gear is cringe
The rates were already stupidly easy before stryders
Right, but you can agree stryders were exponentially better than anything before
Yes, but they don't inherently break the balance of item to structure ratio
That’s true, but stryders just made everything too op. You don’t even need to go back to the base to unload it. 😂
its cutting down on something people already deemed useless which is travel
You would if it meant a huge limitation on what could be crafted and how long it took to add new content
That's not the point I am trying to make though lol
Hear me out
The more pressing issue is the structure cost to BP cost ratio. That is what breaks the game in resources
A structure isn't an end game item
We play ark 2 by hacking a dev computer
the game is cheap enough that bps arent that big of an issue outside saddles
The exact number usage makes no difference as long as the ratio is preserved and maintained throughout the game
and some bps with insane poly counts cause slotcap
Cheap now, because of boosted rates.
wdym
Instead of BPs they might be focusing on the different resources to craft the items. I think it’s more balanced, because at least you need to explore the map to craft special items.
Wanna craft my Tek Rex bp? 😂
rates were only half what they were now but that was also way back
Yes. And because of component based crafting, the actual number value should be less
This will make me build a bunch of shit outposts one very corner of the map just to harvest 1 rescorce
gen2 is probably when resources got fucked up more than any other time just cause stryders
No lol, rates now on 1x are like 8x the launch rates
i always thought it was just .5x
Ab and ci did it too in their own way. Even rag lol
Cancer
nothing compares to gen 2, not even close
Even making it possible to have some op items, making them special resources dependent, makes it more balanced IMO
any farming method you used on another map got accelerated way above what it normally did because of stryders
Rates have been doubled twice since I started lol, and there was another double before
Again, that's not the issue I am discussing. I am more concerned with the ratios
I mean, super op items should need savaged tech super rare to find, as an example
idk how important those are, we already hit the point where millions in one resource were not abnormal
With the same amount of resources in ark1, you can make either a shotgun, or 200 structures lol. That balance is not right
Bro shotty bps only cost like 1.2k if they're ass
Not to mention evo events
i dont think structures matter that much
They should lol
Especially in a primative based world
They should be stronger
What? Have you ever played on pvp servers and their infinity spams?
Structures?
Yeah
yes, im saying this cost ratio is not that insane
It is absolutely insane lol
the reason you see spam is because structures arent that valuable
😐 Spamming gates is already annoying af
and never really will be if they take so little to break
I think it is because everything is too easy to farm nowadays
i think thats been a thing for a while
dunno when structure spam was not a thing
especially cause transmitters exist
Just build a crafting base on genesis 2 and you will craft anything you want super fast
So, reduce the number value of items required to craft weapons. And reduce the over all harvest rates, and things like gates automatically jump in value, meaning spam like now doesn't happen as much
Since extinction I guess
Before extinction tek items were harder to craft
Slot capping on common mats is definitely an exercise in silly time wasting for making one BP
ya
Structures need to be more valuable
most bps arent that important, its really just saddle bps that went fucking crazy
Not sure I want the “50 wood is all you need to make anything but each tree drops 1 wood” model, but needing 10+k of anything is I’d agree a little much
And hence rarer, which forces resource harvesting to either get a nerf, or make structures cost way more
Not true
i think harvesting rates and bps were actually balanced around 450 tames
misworded, meant expensive
Flak bps, tek bow bps
Or just make them more expensive
not important
