Yeah, I don't want to see all the Dino perks as Stat boosters. In fact those should be rare imo. So the idea of respec on a Dino doesn't make sense
@lofty meteor from lego - "we do not care"
I agree with the first point and disagree with the second lol
Your character should work the same way as a tame: you spec it to handle certain playstyles/situations and in doing so miss out on other advantages you may get from other choices in skills etc. The same should be true of tames
A respec simply changes what playstyles you’d like to appeal to. It doesn’t suddenly make every tame a perfect generalist unless you allow infinite no cooldown respecs with no cost
If you imagine the skills as things you have to train I to dinos, then I doesn't make sense to be able to change that
I imagine them as a selection from a suite of options
Given the game is a sandbox, I don’t see why you shouldn’t be able to (at a cost) be able to shuffle your selection around given the maximum number of skills is always greater than the number you can select
I don't see the point of it being greater than you can select if you can just change it
And this is ark, the cost of respec isn't going to be high
Because you can’t simultaneously deploy all the skills?
If there are 20 skills and you can get all 20, respecs are pointless because you can get everything
If you can only get 10, then you can only use 10 regardless of how you choose to spec
A respec simply changes which 10 you can use. It doesn’t magically allow you to use all 20
Games have had great success by providing direct stat points along with a skill tree.
Depends a lot on the game. But the rpg genre is vast, and many methods have worked in regards to this question
For example, you could have points into a general speed stat and then if you wanted, a skill perk that made you faster specifically in water.
Absolutely true. I think it’s also much easier to design and create a system of limited skills with the bulk of the leveling coming from stats. But it’s much less interesting
Imo the best RPGs have your stats stay largely in line with the point of progression (which in ark would probably be the creature’s size/ecological class) and instead level up skills that enable abilities or passives to shine
The purpose of stats, which would still increase, is more to separate your tame from a wild creature and less to be a way to determine the outcome of a fight (the outcome would be more down to skill selection and deployment than the stats of each creature)
Yeah, I have no issue with both - as long as stats and skills have hard caps. No stat mutations, only base tame randomly assigned stats which give a theoretical maximum based on the creature's level (and breeding to combine best stats from different lines) And of course a hard cap on number of skill points to assign
Tbh, I know it's not a popular opinion ( atleast in this chat). But I'd rather have stat mutations
Hmm I wonder if there's a better way to have environment effect the stats
... rather than " volcano or snow" anky
I would love for varients to have different natural perks
Possibly even to be able to breed in environmental effects would be cool
Like if the parents are in a desert dinos have heightened resistance to heat, where as one bred in the snow has an issue with the heat
This is a separate thing from what I said, which is more like raptor vs rex will have different stats, but I think you can absolutely have stuff beyond volcano vs snow ankys
Oh I see
You can have a temperature/humidity modifier which creatures from that environment have favorable genes for
And you can scale penalties based on how far away your creature’s genes are from the current environment
I really want to see a lot more environmental effects
But that’s no longer breeding for stats or skills, that’s a whole ass genetics system. And I’m not sure ark 2 will be going that far lol
They kind of do this with the magmasuar. It not being able to fire or extremely slowed in cold weather. ( though this can be negated if you build fire places around your firing location, to heat them up)
Actually you could scale it down to have each biome have a certain skill, which all native creatures to that biome have and is something that can be bred
Breeding is just a really simple down genetics system
Yeah, it would be pretty hard to add in as a general genetics thing, but perhaps a permanent trait on first generation dinos, and increased tier for subsequent generations up to a certain limit. Like 3 generations in the desert gives a tier 3 heat resistance or something
I'd be down for punit squares plus mutation chance
For example “extreme heat tolerance” for volcanic creatures and “swamp tolerance” for swamp creatures. The skill would then confer an advantage/nullify a disadvantage and could be bred into whatever creature
Pokemon types but they are functionally useful against the environment instead of other creatures
Like if mutations are gone, then having a whole interesting genetics system would be crazy awesome
Pokémon types isn’t exactly what this is…it’s closer to Pokémon natures and IVs
It has to be able to be bred in though. Like a swamp Rex is stronger in the swamp against a snow Rex or something like that
Some natures and IV spreads promote certain ways to use a Pokémon -> same can be true of skills on a tame
This would be the idea. Idk about “stronger” but better in some marked way for being in the correct habitat
You could also bar/ban some creatures from getting certain genes/skills. Perhaps a sarco will never be able to get the desert gene for example
I am envisioning effects like slowing, decreased attack and movement speed, and adding torpor over time for dinos not in their natural or bred environment
I mean you could go way more simple or way more complex on this sort of thing
You could go as extreme as taking damage over time in an environment that’s too hostile and as chill as stamina regenerating more slowly
@mighty lion what I think mutations could do that would be far better than the giga cringe stat ones of ark 1 would be unlocking skills that are otherwise inaccessible from tames for a specific species
For example a rex mutation that offers a raptor skill. Obviously the list of mutated skills has to include ones that aren’t wildly broken or don’t work on whatever creature, but I think that could be interesting to play with
Rexes with Raptor pack bonus
That’s the idea yea
But you’d have limited skills still, so mutations would serve more to expand possible synergies rather than be a massive boost
I don't know about that, pack boosted rexes would be way op. But having locked skills specific to a certain type of Dino or class of Dino would be cool
You’re thinking too hard about specific balance. This is more an example of a possible scenario
But skills for specific creatures is a fantastic way to make them different if you cant do so with stats alone. Lord knows sabers wolves and raptors have needed something like this for ages to differentiate them
mating with close species creating a new dino that's not obtainable in the wild?
Absolutely not lol, this ain’t Jurassic park 😂
true
Ark also has a massive roster. I think for JP hybrids make more sense, but for ark they can yank creatures straight from imagination
most carnivores in ark 1 is too peaceful with each other. I wan't it to be more carnage and killing cause i've seen an alpha raptor chilling with an alpha rex more then once.
Granting special skills like raptor abilities to other creatures I feel would make the mediocre creatures even more obsolete
Depends on how effective they are. Maybe random traits are only marginally effective compared to the originals. For example, Raptors are a known pack animal so their bonus is like +8 or whatever, but a random trait creature like a Rex would only get a +3
That could work
I think
I just don't want anything that is going to upset too much of a creature hierarchy
what would you wish for it to come in or even go out of ark 2?
Lots of things lol
and what for example?
Well, we just spent like an hour talking about Dino skills instead of stats lol
the only way a raptor will ever have viability is if it gets some sort of advantageous matchup against an endgame creature or there are regular progression resets where early game tames/tools are given their chance to shine
some stuff is just...going to make sense in the early game and not in the end game. Good progression can work like that. But ark's official server network never resetting makes people treat otherwise valid progression content as worthless since they're spending the massive bulk of their time in the end game
I feel like raptor packs seen as a group would be pretty decent. Dinos can't have general aoe attacks for them to work well, but I feel like that is already being implemented
How does the isle do it
the isle is bad
Is it?
It's more than that. Ark for the last couple years has been way too easy to get to endgame, and the maps just haven't been up to that level lol
I thought it was way better for dino melee combat than other games, havent played tho
also true, but sort of not really my point. Even before note runs, servers were stalled at end/post game
maybe for the first two seconds. Then your leg breaks because you tripped on a rock the size of a flea and that's gg
Sure, but it wasn't anything to write home about
Aight
best melee combat in any game I ever played was Natural Selection 2
best movement too...so damn fun
It was better than gigas biting in front, and hitting creatures behind and above them
If dinos don't have aoe attacks I could definitely see raptors taking a spotlight as an anti large type dino
If that is the case then things like stomping and trampling should be a thing imo
For some dinos sure
Its hard enough to kill troodons that somehow get below bite aoe on things like rexs
That would kind of be the point
Remove said aoe and no trample makes just rushing for the legs the optimal strat
Yeah but then theres no counterplay without somrthing like trampling
Literally just stay near the legs and its gg, if slowly
With ark1 attacks yes, but I am counting on Dino combat being a bit more involved than look + bite
Fair
Just something alternative to just bite to clear the ground behind you
And directly below
There is trample damage on many creatures
It’s just stupidly inconsistent
Another way to make raptors viable is to have missions with dino size restrictions
For example a mission in a cave or “only Dino’s in X list” being eligible
Caves or other small opening areas without the use of Cryos will promote smaller critters being used
Itd have to apply to basically all medium large/large creatures if you remove aoe, and said trample damage would either need to be massive or cause knockback somehow
Knockback is preferable
Since huge trample damage would be shite to fight against
I just don’t think raptors should be viable against rex
I mean a pack of 10 raptors vs 1 rex i think should work
I wouldn’t mind if larger creatures had more flexibility so they couldn’t be trolled by small creatures like that, but I’m ok with some stuff not being able to tangle with others and win
Basically what i want to fix with the trample mech
Let raptors be the premiere player chaser unit for example that has to run away from larger creatures
If you give raptors an infinite pounce for example that would instantly make them valid as anti player but remain very weak to groups or larger tames
havent seen this but fair enough, this is just my improvised take on fixing it
larger creatures should generally have complete area denial directly near them from smaller creatures
sheesh
Does anyone ever use raptors?
😶
This is in regards to making raptors more viable in ark 2
It was more the comment itself this time tbf 😅
sadly cant happen in practice
I do think it would be cool to have a smaller creature that is an effective counter to large dinos in certain circumstances. Like a pack of deinos in ark1
It shouldn't be able to dominate, but at least work
I’m terrified of how the pvp will be like In ark II
because the pvp system of being able to do whatever you want is beautiful In ark 1
so a removal of that freedom and adding a whole lock on system feels ass
Yeah, gotta love that left click sim gameplay... get real lol
Skill based combat will either make or break Ark 2, that's fair to say, but I'm on the side of make. Look at any other game that uses it, and how big it is to the communities there (Souls games are the big example here)
perhaps but I’m afraid they might lose what makes ark so special
Especially because those games don’t have Dinos that completely break that whole strategy system
So I’m quite skeptical
Well, I'm hopeful. But also scared, as well. There's lots that can go wrong with this new direction/style they're going for, but in the end, it's what they want to make, and they're excited for it. I think that should mean something. I wouldn't be excited for a game I made if it was trash, right?
Tbf Blizzard seemed pretty excited about Diablo Immortal.. “Do you guys not have phones?!?!”
Well, Blizzard is also a bad company who is going down the drain for a reason, sooooo
Take that as you will I guess
"time to spend 100k to max my mobile character"
Ya really sad to see. They were my childhood for gaming.
Same here, at least we got the Diablo 2 remaster before it all went to... hell. Hehehe
I’m glad I quit before it got to that point. It is kinda fun starting out.
Hopefully D4 brings em back. Hopefully….
And as long as they never shut down the servers/multiplayer functions for Starcraft 1&2, as well as the Diablo 2 remaster, my childhood remains intact 😌
StarCraft still holds up so well. Can’t go back to the feel of D2 though. If they made it feel like D3 control wise at least. It would be perfect though.
Fair enough, I never did really care for 3 so I just kept playing 2 lol. And yeah, Starcraft are still some of the most well orchestrated and put together RTSs of all time. Have you heard what the ex-Starcraft devs are doing? Their new game looks sick
But enough about them, this is an Ark 2 channel after all 😅
(pssst it's called Stormgate btw 😉 )
I’ll have to look into it! For now.. can’t wait to see Vin Diesel get more than 3 lines as a character! Lol
On the basis of Ark 2, I do hope the combat is done well. I have not the slightest idea how they're going to merge skill based combat into the Ark setting, with dinos being a part of said combat
How could you forget "Respawned again" "something tells me this is the easy part" and "angry grunts" timeless clasics
Mostly just the grunts
exerted grunt
Angry battlecry
"kils native inhabitants from a alien planet he's invading with his family and dinosaurs"
Can't wait
We can't really form a final opinion on these type of cases for now untill we get screenshots and gameplay later on
True dat
Except you cant do whatever you want lol, at least to stay competitive
I mean his best and most expressive line will always and forever be “I am Groot”.
i disagree you literally can do whatever you want and in the right situation itll work
With some luck perhaps, but it wont really work against more skilled players
I cri ery tiem
I think they might make it similar to Far Cry Primal
'unholy grunts'
"Respawned again"
Perhaps, been so long since I played that, I legit have no idea what the wildlife combat was like anymore lol
Ark 2 not come ps5?
Lowkey hoping the tracking nodes make it to ARK 2, but smaller and harder to see on players
I always wanted a chance to use them for evil things :( but its hard to when you can see it on yourself by looking straight down
will Ark 2 have versions like Ark the original because Ark can have custom and story maps
Ark 2 third person
Place it in front of em and they cant see jack shit xD
Lol
We don't know yet.
Will it actually have a anti cheat so it doesn’t get ruined by hackers like ark in currently ?
I don't know. Any info we do know is in the pinned messages.
The moderation team are volunteers for discord only. You're welcome to rant in another channel.
If it isnt confirmed doesnt mean it isnt there
2 years that we know of, and we have no prices nor any form of pre-order.
only 2 years?
? Well the only info we have is in the pins. Wildcard has probably been working on it for longer, but as community members, we wouldn't have access to that information.

.
What is gonna happen to are ark 1 characters 😦
i mean you can still play ark 1, it's not like everyone's characters will be deleted after ark 2 releases
remember the people thinking they could transfer their ark 1 characters to ark 2 or thought ark 2 was a expansion? hilarious times
people forget sequels exists lmao
going by that logic every call of duty is just a dlc/expansion
back in my day where DLCs are just extra additional content, not a new story and are in "Append" Disks
It be sad I guess I make funeral
your character will get thanos snapped when ark 2 drops
SP/unofficial go nyoom
they enabled their cheats like mei
basically
Lol
Ark1 DLC was pretty good, aside Scorched Earth being mostly unfinished
How they handled it too was pretty good from a consumer standpoint. All the items and critters came free later through free maps, only thing you really missed were the DLC maps themselves and the lore/Ascension
when games including expansions are in disc form
Yeah, I think WC did their best work with Aberration. Excellent natural progression, dangers remain valid even into endgame, and the map itself is visually beautiful. It's a shame some of the newer creatures that can be transfered in make traversal so trivial
That's not to say the others are bad, every expansion brought a ton of new content and things to do. Scorched a bit less so, but still worth checking out - especially if they do add an official ending to it with the Switch updates
Remembering when Doom 3's "expansion " was legitimately just the last few levels of the game they didn't finish in time for release
so i 've reading a little bit , so you guys are suggesting to remove the mutation system , its ok but think about a bit if the pve of ARK 2 is like the same of ARK 1 without breeding this game mode will die soon (with this im saying that they should make enough content to cover what mutation system would do )
A common and legitimate concern: covered in our numerous conversations you had no way on knowing we had though heehee
The most simple way is to add intentionally repeatable missions that provide some sort of post game content experiences for folks
Other ways include lateral mutations that alter creature skills (if such a system exists) that don’t allow for runaway stat boosting but also give players something to do similar to ark 1
The primary goal (which I can’t stress enough) is to make the post game more about playing ark and less about afk. The secondary goal is to have a post game that doesn’t just crap on the PvE content when people complete it…which mutation stacking comfortably allows you to meat run the entire PvE of the game with no difficulty and can be started extremely quickly in your ark experience
can't be more agree sorry hehee
No need to apologize! I’m just happy another person gets to join the discussion
that is a fact , actually if you want to get into the official PvP side , you better meet an alpha tribe to give you some lines to do PvP , or either you get wiped
The secondary argument is critical here
Which is that the PvE becomes a stupid joke…you can be in some insanely stupid scenarios and just LMB through it because you have a capped tame with a capped saddle that takes 10 damage out of 50k hp per hit
yup
brutes in genesis at least got that tames in critical situations sometimes , until bleeding was added to thyla and megalodon
Brutes on genesis pissed me off by soft requiring mutation stacking lol but idk how else would WC have balanced that out to be fun for folks who had capped lines
If they never intended for breeding to be what it is, then why add the upper stat cap and not fix the issue?. The years aspect adds longevity to a activity that some find enjoyable. Plus I've yet to see to encounter market stat you couldnt trade c4 for ( excluding private, neutered)
Because they either 1.) didn’t know how or 2.) didn’t want to wipe people’s tames, something that is extremely contentious
I find it hard to believe that they weren't aware of it. So many youtube vids and exploit reports go to them
I didn’t say anything about awareness, I believe they were aware pretty quickly
But the upper cap was a soft solution that didn’t wipe people’s tames and didn’t require any complicated effort to fix the mutation stacking bugs, so at the time perhaps it was seen as the best answer
Oh I didnt see the " how", sorry
And my guess is that if the issue was fixed people were getting their tames wiped
Idk, I truly find mutation breeding interesting and relaxing from the other aspects of PVP. Gives players a break and a hobby
I think you have correctly identified a positive element of gaming (the “off” state where you aren’t being stressed or put to the test), but this is very clearly not the way to satisfy that well (to me)
I think a greater animal husbandry and farming system for example can fill a similar niche of something relaxing and useful that doesn’t carry (the same issues I’ve said a billion times) mutation stacking has
At the time, when ark 1 was very much not a full game and needed basic systems implemented to get the outline of a full experience, mutation stacking and a lot of other mechanics made more sense
Is there truly a steep cliff for new players on pc when it comes to stats? Atleast on xbox its very simple to get atleast near top stats, no money needed
I can’t speak to that. My complaints aren’t really about rookie access because many folks have made great arguments about access not being as troubled as one may intuit
Yeah in my experience, we often seed new players with decent stats or you can just trade c4 for it.
That’s my current understanding, and I think it speaks to (and nullifies to an extent) the gatekeeping argument. It’s why I largely dropped it 😆
I do think we need a way to continually improve our breeding lines, maybe that's not the current system. Do you have any ideas how we could keep the progression aspect without a random mut system?
I’ve posted many. Did you have a chance to read the random traits/skills discussion we had yesterday/the day before? That’s the most recent one I suggested
I have, but didnt have time to respond. Do they stack with each iteration?
It’s less about stacking and more about getting the rare trait /combination of traits you want
Let me see if I can summarize how that works
Assume we have a rex. All rex skills would be in one of three pools of skills:
1.) wild skills that will come randomly from a tamed rex - general skills that many creatures can have
2.) will skills that will come randomly from a tamed rex - specific skills unique to rex
3.) “mutation skills” that pull skills from other creatures that are NOT normally available in pools 1 and 2
The goal of mutation breeding then would be to get the ideal combination of skills and synergies rather than just brute scaling your stats via ark 1 mutation stacking
actually you can outmatch any brute using a thyla , or a tek rifle
Hence “soft”
yeah , or mutations that unlock and special skill , i mean , you reach 20 damage mutations , your velo can make a tail attack that does % damage etc etc
too much work right?
This assumes normal stat mutations remain. They would be removed in the model I propose
Hmm, if a breeding pair have the same combination of skills, would it carry over to the offspring? Given the dont have another mutation?
i mean , mutations to refer that
That would be the plan yes. Let’s say rex A has skills 123 and rex B has skills 123. Baby rex C has skills 123 but a chance to have an additional skill 4. There’d probably be a maximum mutation skill cap
Oh an additional skill, so possibility to have 4+ skills on one creature?
Correct
yeah
I think that could work well, if wildcard added new skills to the pools periodically. Give people things to shoot for.
In game with similar systems: example ( destiny 2 rng gun perks with added mods and masterclass). Typically farm until you get the " god roll" and it becomes a stagnated meta. Until new perks are added and the meta adapts
That’s kinda how I imagine it working
Since that’s how capped tames I believe work now lol. The advantage is that for PvE it doesn’t horrendously break the game and it can be more optional
Could add missions to unlock a special skills for dinos ( must be completed on said dino)
I think post game missions of that sort would be critical to a plan that ends with the cutting of mutation stacking
You need something to drive players to engage with the post game, and mutation stacking, while horrible because it’s mostly waiting around and the result is near cheating levels of strength, does fill that role to a degree
Missions would be my knee jerk answer to fill the void, but the idea of softer skill based mutation system and other RNG grind mechanics could also work with missions to provide a more full post game experience
thats a little bit comtroversial , i like missions in ark , but there are who doesn't , idk whats wrong with the quest maybe they dont like cuz its a survival ? dk , one thing for sure , is that i want quest for ark 2 , or at least optional quests
Missions were trial ran in genesis and are a near certainty in ark 2
I’m not sure how else we’ll interact with the “legendary heroes” we’re told about on the steam page
maybe HLNA npc like
Given they’re people with voice acting rather than a support AI I’m extremely skeptical that’s the case
It's a bit of a catch 22, instanced mission allow for out of map exploits and leave people open for ambushes at terminal. But in world missions either restrict building zones or player building can interfere with them. Both can severely suffer from server lag.
It would be interesting if all missions worked like genesis 1 boss teleports and could be done at will anywhere (if you wanted you could add an unlock condition to be able to initiate a mission)
@mighty lion any PvP exploits you can think of with that?
Tek rex?
Pew pew pew!
If that excludes moeder, ( a glitch existed where you could get it into the rest of the map).... there are several cheese exploits you can do on gen 1 ( giga in boss fight for example).... 1 possible exploit is denial of mission, if someone can freely access all missions from the safety of their base( assuming they are single instance). They could have players spam missions
Ah true, I assumed multiple instance. That does complicate things
HLN-A is coming to PAX West.
I kind of wanna ask "How does it feel to chew five-gum?
And does it stimulate your senses?"
Your other two replies refer to my comments on mutations but this one refers to my comment on missions…is that what you intended to reply to?
Yes. There could be a complex genetics system where each creatures has genes that confer specific traits that behave based on their gene “type” (dominant/recessive/codominant/etc), and breeding instead of pulling mutations out of your ass to boost melee health could be more about very carefully selecting specific traits. My suggestion about skills though feels more realistic given we’re getting at minimum a player skill tree
I would love to see a more genetic type genetic system in ark2 lol
I suspect ark 2 breeding will still be single gene pair breeding with one father and one mother allele to choose from. It’s not wrong to be simple either: ark 2 doesn’t need to be a complex breeding sim game
That is where we differ lol, I would love for it to have a more complex breeding system lol
There’s a difference between what I want and what I think WC is seeking
When will Ark 2 come out?
Although who knows maybe HLNA will slip up at pax west and tell us a more precise date 😂
2023? 2024? 2095? years?
The current info is 2023,
definite ._.
you better come before you die ark 2 😄
Lol, that would be cool, but I doubt they will do that yet. I am betting they spend a lot of time talking about the Nintendo release
Prolly, since that’s the next release
I’m being patient. In fact, I’ll probably be a bit sad when ark 2 drops
Lol, I can envision that jaja
🤷♂️ not much speculative game design to chat when the game is out XD
They should just never release it so we get more time to predict it jajaja
Dw it’s WC maybe we’ll get that extra time until 2025 😂😂
I’m glad they released what they did tho: we were really pulling things out of our asses for a while so it’s nice that we have a bit of info to play with
If it is delayed until 2025 but lives up to expectations it's worth it
Fully agree, but I’m guessing the average one message chatter here wouldn’t be happy lol
Yeah, probably not haha
That being said, maybe we have to wait for ark 3 to see our perfect breeding sim/skill combat/tribe wars PvP/sandboxbutalsonot
Yeah, I doubt they will take every idea from here, I just hope the major ones are implemented
Also a flier nerf. That is desperately needed
Flier rework*
Idk what will or won’t be taken from here if anything. Ark isn’t a one man dev team lol, they’re working on their own path
If it's all melee combat, an ark1 flier will be waaaay to op lol
I mean yes fliers need a nerf. That is, if you want people to actually experience any of the AI or events you have planned that will take place on the ground
farter nerf
I’d say one of the few “fliers” not in need of much nerf wise is the only ark farter: the gasbags
I think the fact that you can’t hover in place above something, can’t really attack, and don’t have a lot of micro control…as well as being vulnerable on the ground makes it a fairly balanced creature
Every flier needs the bloodstalker escape mechanic, and should have less weight
Pts shouldn't be able to carry 2 people lol
I’m very curious as to how they handle map exploration
I hope better than ark 1 😂
Do we even NEED to be able to cross the whole map? That’s one interesting question
I think there was an announcement at one point saying there would be a new mechanic for that
After all we can always just "respawn again"
I meant more like genesis 2 doesn’t require you to explore the map
The only area you technically have to go is one mission terminal and then the rockwell prime one
You’re right, it should be inherent without a tame 😇
I’m not racing a 20-30min or whatever bag despawn timer to cross the map. I’m good
Yeah, no. It's too strong. If it was nerfed to only be able to carry your armor and hotbar sure I don't see an issue. But everything?
I mean everything do be kinda busted, so that’s fair
Free on server character transfer bird lol
Perhaps natural ( aratai) fauna can assist with the flyer issue
It’s Arat fauna 🧐
Oof oof
More plants like the Gen 2 carniflora pls
But the issue ofc is that with a flier you just coast above the map at a safe height
You could have dense canopies or something that force more risky low flying as a simple example
Woundnt be opposed to a vine creature that can whip you out of the sky
My autocorrect sucks sometimes
Love the idea of a plant bein like sit down
Yeees, but they need to be more hidden, and more annoying lol
Perfect
I’m quite alright not shitting myself constantly in fear of getting eaten
Yeah, but ark needs more of that
I kind of like alittle fear in certain areas of the map
I do think that it shouldnt cause torpor though
Ark does not need stationary stealthy danger bois that have another identical model that’s a resource node
A full half of the map should be really dangerous, even for postgame items
We need so much more that your setup will require a toilet for how many times you crap yourself
I’m good with hidden creatures but carniflora always confused the shit out of me because they look like those wild meat plants
Like abberation red zone was a good amount of " this shit can kill you ... great .. I'm stunned'
Nah, lets have more Cariflora's in ARK-2 just for Shifter.
I also loathe hard stuns
"radiation effect noises"
Ssssssssssssss
'chr chr chr chr chr chr '
I liked the red zone because of seekers and reaper queens…purlovia will always earn my disrespect
Ab red zone and the surface were great
If there is a rad zone, I'd like more ways to deal with it. Since we wont have a tek forcefield... and I'm not a fan of the blood suckera
Surface was weird lol, too many dang reaper kings. I just hit C on a drake and memed around
An anti purlovia perk would be nice
I’m good just removing all hard stuns (at least from wild creatures)
It's called mass genocide of a species
It’s called weasel-B-gone
Purlovia was a creature than became obsolete fast
I was unaware it was ever good
Hard stun vs immobile wrapped in vines?
An anti flier animal should either force you to flee, ground you, or present serious risk of death
No stun BS. Stuns remove player control imo and that’s poopoo
I'm down for a limited range creature that can ground you other than a reaper
I’m speaking purely PvE ofc, it doesn’t have to be a tame. It could even be a biome specific condition or weather or something. But it has to be PvE since that’s what people are traveling over for the most part
I mean, I still use purlovia, especially on unofficial
People rarely purlovia scout the island beach, so it's a great place to keep some loot jaja
applies Weasel-B-Gone
I will say, I hope we still have the parasaur alert function
But nah, something like a shield with a certain item crafted into it should be have a chance of blocking purlovia
We can't let it become useless again
Right only use was to lay eggs for me
We can absolutely allow it to never do that function of stunning again while still doing something
The fact you just said the mammal purlovia lays eggs proves how little you use it 😂
We are talking about a parasuar lol
Hence the sticker
We were talking about our paraboi

I hope in ark 2 they make the settings more advanced to we don’t need to mess with our files to change something. Sometimes in our files we could mess something up and not be able to get it back easily.
Bro if ark 2 is actually coming out in 2023, then they should start opening up suggestions for Ark II soon…
Uh, the only settings that you should have to change are for single player
What do you think this chat is? I do respect the self thumbs up emotes 😂
Yeah, that's pretty cute imo
I think every bob tames a horde of dilos ... only for it to be wiped out
I hope wildcard gets over its fear of breeding snakes
If we don't see basilisks breedable in the one of the final content updates for Ark 1, I will riot
To be fair, everything besides the reaper should be breedable. Otherwise, it just kinda ruins the illusion of self sustaining populations of animals, which I assume will be what we get with Ark 2
just because something won't breed in captivity doesn't mean it won't in the wild
look at pandas
I had 4 capped cryo fridges of the top stat and event color basilisk waiting for this day
They said they weren't done adding breeding to dinos when they made drakes and wyverns breedable, so there's a chance. But I sure wouldn't hold out for the griffins tbh, like a lot of people I know are. They just don't make sense, seeing as how they're not only a chimera but an extremely non-feasible one
I'd be down for locking breeding certain dinos behind knowledge points, but no entirely for ark 2. ..... I'll never have a baby astrocetus
Then again, shadowmanes, elerment, sciernce... lol
Man, I'd unironically want them to become breedable, no lie. Moreso that basilisks, almost
Make them actually useful for something other than PvP with stat compiling
I’d use astrocetus in PvE more if it wasn’t such a royal pain to stock their fuel
I mean they are barely useful for PVP. Fabis shred them. They were a rare example for a prematurely nerfed creature
Also had that lovely bug where it was near impossible to perfect tame them
Definitely got the shaft, those poor whales
Yes! I've only seen 90% plus tame
What fuel do you mean? Ambergris? Saddle doesn't require it afaik
It’s because the final canon shot for some dumb reason counts twice, so it instantly damages the KOd whale
The bombs need Ambergris to deploy
Megachelon got over nerfed in PVP. ( albeit they were pretty OP at first)
Yeah, that's a PvP aspect lol
been couple years since they announced a ark 2 right? when is it planned to launch?
Counts when as double when it passes through, you have a better chance with a catapult and multiple people
You think I wouldn’t carpet bomb the lunar biome if I was irritated? You wild
Fair, good point
Well I was solo so I lacked that flexibility 😂
Everyone on my server had burned out on ark so I was doing some final genesis 1 prep myself
Yeah, no breeding, no cloning, low hp ... I appreciate the balance attempt.. but it was alittle too heavy handed
The warp has save a few tribemates though
I really think fabis with hitscan and extreme range probably ruined the viability of a lot of tames
Yeah, definetly the range.
Imo the longest ranged thing in the game should be turrets 😅
No cloning is another thing I hate, like, why? That's so dumb for anything other than PvP balance, just let us clone our little brain slugs on PvE at the bare minimum, since we can't breed them 🙄
Yes, that's an easy way to avoid exploits
I agree, I think there should be unique modifications between pve and PVP
Me, too. I hope to see that going into Ark 2 🙂
I really want to see more megafauna in the sea. Maybe a whaling mini game that can be triggered when you go out into certain areas
Levyatan would be something to disrupt the peacefulness of the open ocean. A giant whale that rips through megalodons and dunkleos with ease would be terrifying
I think more deep sea resources or something more needed could be nice
Personally I don’t think I’ve ever really set foot in the ocean other than gen1 missions and just running around bored
Black pearls are a start, but something metal esque that you need a constant supply of would be interesting
Id like shallower oceans with ravines rather than a simple dropoff tbh
Or really just big ass lakes
Having actual reefs would be nice, but I really do like really deep oceans
just wondering is ark 2 third person only still
I dont see that changing until after release, if at all
Mysteries of an abyssal ocean would be dope
alot of ark is first person
Good thing ark and ark2 are different games
I mean if the ocean had a massive trench with twilight zone lifeforms that would be amazing
This is something ark has yet to even try
Like we have anglerfish and teusos but they couldve went so far with deep sea creatures
Still no livyatan, but there could have also been supersized dragonfish, supersized prehistoric greenland shark ancestor, weird batfish, weird other things too
If the ocean was properly deep enough for it to matter
Make it pitch black too
Would like things thats open water seem like a big nope moment
I think ark could really change this up with time of day and year spawns.... keep us guessing atleast for a while
Wdym
Like seasonal spawns that occasionally make the region scary?
That would be neat ngl
Agreed but there should be seasons in game and not based on real life. I don’t wanna be waiting a year for a Dino to spawn haha
Maybe they already said that though. Idk I haven’t really looked at any information about ark 2 yet
Yeah for sure
You could probably just use typical 1 hour ark day cycle to base seasons off of tbh
2 weeks irl= 1 in game year
I think thatd be fine to work with
72 hour seasons
Ish
Closer to 90 actually nvm
Right so like every three or four days would be the next season
Ye
That would be kinda cool
Id be down for it
Maybe add something about that for growing crops too
Seasonal crops and if you want to grow something else out of season you need to make a greenhouse if that’ll even be possible
I better be able to store food for several days straight
I doubt greenhouses would be a thing
Too high tech imo
That’s alright
But i like the normal seasonal food thing anyhow
Since it makes food something somewhat mechanically important
Like I said I haven’t really paid any attention to what’s in or out of ark2 yet so
Yeah and a lot of games have seasonal foods that can only grow during certain seasons which I think is a cool concept
Not going to change anytime soon
Is it though? Our survivors have presumed knowledge of modern innovation, just maybe not always the means to make high tech stuff. A greenhouse is basically just glass
Its not technically impossible but a greenhouse feels out of place in a primitive world
I mean by technicality we can still advance to autoturrets since all the materials should still exist
But at that point all we are missing is tek
Well, you'd need gasoline to power said turrets.
And there's nothing to my knowledge (in-universe) that could make gasoline currently in ARK-2
Also electronics, which would have to be in perfect conditions.
And assuming we're even going to be able to advance to metal-tier, so then we also need a way to smelt stuff.
The eden ring has basically everything if you can get to it
Sure, but it's been around 4-ish years. So we don't know the decay and such of stuff.
And if the ring did crash onto the planet, of 'what' even survived said crash. (resource wise)
As long as it hasnt left arat all resources needed should be on it
Even if it crashed tbh
Wouldn't electronics though get damaged over time due to natural events, like rain and just general degrading?
Cause again, 4 years worth of rain and such.
They might but there are silica pearls and such
Plus with ark logic youd probably just need to use a pick on the debris xd
True, but again. That's assuming Santiago isn't so hellbent on the 'no tek' thing that he even doesn't allow for metal smelting.
Thats what im guessing is goijg to be the case
Santiago is tired of all the mind breaking tek and just wants something real and normal
- rides on a rex *
Then the man will probably get a uprising of players against him.
Juuuuust saying.
Probably including his daughter
Theyd want to board the ring in the sky
Wait did the ring crash or stayed up i forgot
We don't know
Last it was seen was in Genesis-2.
What people thought to be the rings at the end of the first ARK-2 trailer where in fact natural rock formations. (natural for the planet)
Fair
'Buuut' we do see ship-debree in the background of the poster for the second trailer.
But that's either the ring, or part of the 'main' ship.
Whats the weird tek cave in announcement trailer i wonder
Don't know, but it might have to do with our survivor.
That's assuming the trailers are even canon.
Maybe it was how they got to the ground
I cant imagine the trailers arent mostly canon tbh
They got to the ground via escape pods
Ye maybe its an old escape pod
Maybe, but it's 'all' stone. So doubtful
How big were they
Again, could be our survivor (or someone else) bringing those pods in the cave for some reason.
Though, it either has to be the survivor from the first game, or they're doing something wack i can't think of. Cause no one should know of HLN-A other then 'us.'
Idrk
Feels weird to have a giant computer stuck in a cave for what, 4 years you said?
Then to turn it off after all that time
Hints why i question their canon sakes.
And there's a lot of cool cinematic trailers for games that aren't canon.
Gears of wars 'mad world' trailer for example.
Noted
Dumb theory time!
@untold ingot @blissful perch Come get your dumb theories while they're still cooking!
Truly, halos 3s energy bubble trailer too
What happens in trailers is one thing, items depicted is another
Now the 'believe' full trailer that was like 10 minutes long of the camera person interviewing veteran soldiers 'is' actually canon.
But obviously, chief never gets held by the neck, nearly dead in Halo 3
Yeah, still crazy that happened in infinite.. kinda of lazy story writing imo. .. who cares how they did it... it happened.. ok?
Ark 2 not come ps5?
Dumb theory time!:
With them stating stuff like "Creature Management" and "Aratai being able to have their own tames" (which leads me to think they can raid you) and the "and attempt to build their own creature-aided "Civilization."
Leads me to think 'slightly' that my dumb idea of being able to make your own town and defend it, akin to Fallout-4's settlement system may not be too far off.
It's coming out in Early-Access, so no.
Forever not come?
We don't know.
Xbox buyed ark studio?
No
Sony just doesn't allow Early-Access for more then 2 years on their platform.
Took ARK-1 like two years till it was able to come out on PS.
What is ewrly acses
Wow
A title for a unfinished, but playable game that's still being developed on.
Basically a Beta.
How long will it stay in early access?
Sorry but i dont understand
What's there to not understand?
Seemed pretty straightforward to me...
ark 2 will be in early access
no early access for ps5
Sony doesn't have as much leeway with Early-Access titles then Microsoft does. And they'll only allow a Early-Access game on there for two years max. Meaning ARK-2 has to be past its first year or two to be able to get onto PS.
ergo, no ark 2 for ps5 until it comes out of early access
Not 100% true, but yeah.
Hasn't been since 2017.
it was in early acces for 3 years
not anymore doe
@tropic crag Read dumb theory, btw.
PS4 got ARK in less than 2 years, so I wouldn't say it won't come to PS5 for 2 years or even that it won't come until after early access.
Right, cause ARK-1 did come out for Playstation while it was still in Early-Access.
That was though within the last year of ARK's Early-Access phase.
I did, not dumb. There's a good chance there's a mechanic similar enough to compare to settlement building that I think will be in the game, because of the recent popularity of said mechanic, that I believe it
It came out for PS in like.....late 2016? Maybe early 2017?
Came out Dec 2016 which was about 9 months before EA ended.
Aye, i like settlement systems if done right. So if i'm right somehow, that works with me.
Right, yeah.
But doesn't Sony's ToS have it around 2 years max or something like that?
do you think "ark 1" will come with ps plus?
🤷♂️
Would 'you' enjoy a settlement system in ARK-2?
Uhhhh, yeah? Have I not made it obvious?
Nope
I thought with how much we've discussed Aratai NPCs being possible that the point had been made enough times
Humans... blech.
Humans 🍵
Haram
Explain your case
What case?
Why aratai settlers
'Why not?'
I'm a firm believer of "Make love, not War"
So being able to make a settlement to both support Human and Aratai settlers that don't want to be part of the bullshit war Santiago or whoever is raging is a pogger move to me.
Why be a bich who only wants peace
Which would be poetic irony.
Takes the purpose of the aratai settlers
Because Mass murder is poggers'nt
Ignore them.
Its a fucking game
You're only fueling their crave for attention more.
Not this shit again
Im just asking a question lmao
What shit?
I don't see any.
Why be a basic "bich" who only ever wants to murder everything? Goes both ways, love.
SHH
Never said i want to murder something
Besides, they will attack u
So its not murder, its self defence
Ur ganna have to kill them
Anyway, i'd love for a full settlement system of having to micromanage it. But i'm also a machoistic for extra grind.
I'd rather micromanage A vindiago following you everywhere for using anything past medival
TRUE!
Maybe Vindiago could raid you if you even activate the neuron for 'unga me want advance bunga'
Bring on the Michael Myers vibes
Bring on the tek infinity stone
of you want an ending where we beat the crop out of vindiago with aratai
"Fuck Vindiago. All my homies are with the Aratai"
For Ark 2?
XD
this chat is for suggestions and speculation
as the devs have confirmed they look intot this channel
Albeit much less now that blue is gone
sadge
bruh… right
well better ai is confirmed, but the extent of it is unknown
damage will also matter more, that combined with skill trees would probably mean a single heavily invested tame would largely outperform a group of basic ones
its confirmed for the player at least
and since the player has one, it would make sense for tames to also have one, even if its something basic like +5 damage or +5 armor over designing a whole new system, just for it to be basic ass stat boosts like you see in arkI
same
Pack animals should have more advanced commands like “chase”, “track” or “surrounds”
anyway, i wanna be able to pillage Santiagos village with the Aratai
aight
yeah, let's raid vindiago's village.
seriously tho, teaming up with the aratai would be pretty awesome
ye they're a mod
a story mission if you'd be able to choose your own path
i'd assume the story part will be like gen 2 with quests/missions telling you a bit of lore, seeing as story will have a bigger focus than ark 1 from the description
please explain further on what you didn't like
can't really argue with that
if they're in ark 2 i hope it's more refined and has to do with the story itself
we all hope vindiago actually gets more charatcer than angry grunting inserted vin diesel
that's why we hope ark 2 will either have no mutations or that the x/y limit is actually you know a limit you can't go over
imagine official pvp if they didn't add that lvl cap
only ''challenge'' with the dragon is just the fire breath doing percentage based dmg with more hp for the boss on other difficulties
we want a cap that actually works
Man some of that op broken nonsense is what makes ark lol eg turkey, dodorex 👍
the classic turkey hitting like a wild giga
Carefull what u all wish for man before they stop thinking like that an we don’t have it anymore 😂
ark 2 turkey should cripple you when you look at it
The way it’s going for ark 2 u could prob cheese all the bosses by climbing a wall high enough 😂
atleast it would require you to do something else than spam bite untill it dies
have it spawn in with a few minions and leave them alone after they die
Master controller spawns enough minions to use in a mega tribe server war lol
Personally it’s the king Titan for me haven’t done it for ages but back a year or 3 😂 u had to squad deep for that and have all the Titans with u
Pretty lit like ngl
you also had to progress to do alpha, even if the mega mek was just a craftable ez win against it
nope no lvls, mostly just a flex added onto your implant
if it gave lvls people would be able to become lvl 205 today xD
out off all island-extinction bosses, the king titan was the only boss you couldn't just start on alpha after farming for alpha requirements
let's hope ark 2 bosses also require you to work your way to fight them, but that the reward justifies the grind
Engrams-wise, yeah - but you needed the Dragon head on the Island to do Ascension and those couldn't be transfered
I believe at the time the king titan was the final boss of all of ark
So loot didn’t really make a ton of sense in the traditional “I need loot to progress”
True, it should only need to be done once. But it still needs to be done, y'know?
Why? It would only serve to gate keep. It’s not like beating the ender dragon gives you special unique armor
I mean I’d have it drop nothing but a one time max level boost like most other major bosses, but I don’t see why it needs to be repeatable
Confusion. The idea is that this post final boss gear would serve as another tier that can be abused to gatekeep players
I have this problem a lot 😞
Even if a creature did have a hard cap at 20 mutations, the numbers wouldve still gotten that high. The numbers stack regardless of if there is a new mutation or not. It's why Bob's can technically get 2 mutations and breed dirty until they are maxed out and stuck with only 2 mutations on capped 20/20 line. So I'd say the large numbers were intentional, to encourage new dinos in lines or atleast to add another dimension to it. The negatives were done intentionally by players to trick the code.
I'm not missing the point, I just dont agree with your reasoning. And you dont have to agree with mine
Hopefully they fix whatever wasnt intentional in the original design in ark 2
The should've been balancing new dinos with counter dinos, like most other games' balancing mechanics, but that never happened.
What “if” are you talking about? If they truly did have a hard cap, they could not have been that high. Everything would actually be capped at 20, not just somewhat capped at 20. You literally wouldn’t be able to go above 20
The issue was not differentiating where the stats came from. If it was intentional to have a 20 mut cap but have the gained stats be the same as wild stats, Frieza is probably right. If they “ideally” wanted the mut cap to represent 20 bonus stat boosts beyond wild creatures, than I think it’s different
Either way, Frieza is 100% right. I hope WC has thought carefully about this system. My opinion is extremely strong on the subject but that doesn’t make it correct or the best one. I just hope WC has taken time to consider implications of and design goals for whatever breeding system they do/don’t have in ark 2
probably a byproduct of the bad base code i'd assume
Regarding mutation stacking It's technically working as intended, but it's not great for the long-term health of the game
Honestly, as far as King Titan's loot goes: I don't care
he could do with more, perhaps, although when i ran him in singleplayer i got stacked with phat loots not entirely just attributable to heightened loot values... But even if all he dropped was a crop BP, I'd have killed him anyway
He doesn't need to drop anything special, because he is the end goal
Then.....him being the end goal 'should' be the reasoning of why he has good loot
The (in stats) hardest boss in the game should drop some of the best gear.
Especially on Alpha
I mean, he's kind of in the situation where the rewards are kind of pointless because when you've killed him... You're kind of done? Like, if Sephiroth dropped good loot. Why bother at that point?
You've already beaten the game
Though ARK isn't a linear RPG as Final-Fantasy is.
ARK is a never ending open-world.
So if you're spending literal weeks preparing to fight the biggest boi in the game. You should get something out of it that's worth while.
Cause that's where the 'story' ends. Not the 'game.'
I unno, it robs something from the King Titan experience if people are farming him for loot all day
extra levels like rockwell, maybe
Unless he already does grant extra levels and i've forgotten
I feel the complete opposite, and so do my friends that have done it.
The fight feels worthless.
Yeah, sure. It's the "big bad of ARK"
But that's not really a motive when we're playing a online open-world game.
"This is the overwhelming boss monster whose very presence dooms the world, with an amazing emotional track, a big-ass moment to test your mastery"
"we kill him six times a day, seven on weekends, looking for flak bps"
Not everything needs to be a loot pinata
In the most already loot-pinata-y map in the game
Many games like WoW, Destiny, etc, will give good loot for the big-bads.
Why?
Cause not everyone cares for the lore. But if you 'make' everyone care in one way or another, then it's a worthy fight.
The way you make people who don't care for lore, or who care for the lore but don't want to prepare for a fight that's worthless in the gameplay. Is to give them good loot to make them worth fighting.
You kind of see where i'm coming from?
He's an ascension goal, the same as Rockwell and the Overseer and the Master Controll and Rockwell again
And that's great.
'If he gave levels'
The issue is, you practically get nothing out of the fight currently other some blueprints that you could get better ones at OSD's, and a cool looking head and flag.
The fight would be SO much more useful, if he simply gave bonus levels like every other ascension boss.
I mean, again, he's your final goal. He's the final boss. He's the thing you're preparing for.
He's the final boss of 'Extinction'
If we're going like that. Then the final boss of ARK as a whole is Rockwell-Prime.
Which gives more out of the fight then the King-Titan does.
Extinction was supposed to be the end of ark though
'Was' the the keyword
Also, if we're excluding cheesing. 'I' personally find the alpha King-Titan a lot more easier then alpha Rockwell-Prime.
Genesis 1/2 are practically a different game
Not really an excuse though since they're still DLC's.
Hell, they assume you haven't played the first set of maps- Helena constantly talks to you as if you're new to the whole survivor thing
Obviously the story and the game changed a lot since that map released, and in either case I am not really sure what it has to do with ark 2
And yet, some parts of the lore more hints that you're the same survivor.
It's more of a 'it's up to you' thing.
Yeah, good point.
What does this have to do with ARK-2?
I agree with ya 100%. I’m ok with the final boss being a checkpoint to the post game rather than a loot piñata
Gate post game content behind the final boss if you must. But grinding an emotional moment imo is a big killjoy for me. Good RPG games split those big defining moments from the grind and I think ark 2 can do that
Helena, or HLN-A? Because HLN-A makes sense to be tutorial-ish. It's new to her and the Genesis Simulation was meant to be a training ground for learning survival skills in extreme environments
HLNA, yeah
I agree with this 100%
final fantasy 14 does this quite well imo
I hope that they're afraid of water, because the other big bad is prevalent in the water

The fuck do they drink then
You know what I mean, dippy. DEEP water, oceans, bigger lakes
So basically me
If this is true, it kind of confirms that primitive vacuum compartments (and by extension Ocean platforms) will come to the game
I assume there will be bubbles of some sort, or at least underwater caves, as in the ones like the note caves on The Island
I hope there is no progression required underwater
Oh definitely not, maybe missions adjacent to water, or like in a lake or river setting
Just different styles of mats being underwater (coral=wood or stone, sunken ships for waterlogged wood and metal perhaps) would be cool, and have them be just for looks
Subnautica 2
Wish i could be excited for this. But FUCKING REMOVING FIRST PERSON???
Yeah. Wouldn’t really fit with the new movement and combat mechanics.
That’s not an Ark thing. That’s a people thing, all of that can be done in Ark as is. But unfortunately when there’s no consequences people tend to not be well behaved or civil. As for first person, no. It will not be in the base game.
@lime forge My guy its legit ark. We dont need new mechanics. Just improve on the ones we have. This aint ark theyre tryna make a new game. And its low key gonna follow every other sequal
Not to mention if its building to much hype its gonna end up like cyberpunk
but m u l t i p l a y e r
you understand how bad that would be right? Not only would it kill a serious amount of the ark community in a whole. But it would full on drive core values we have always had right out the fucking window. Just like every other game that tried to do the same bs in the past.
Have you seen the amount of jobs that are listed for studio wildcard? They dont have enough people. Which in turns leaves more work. More work leads to more time needed. No enough people means an unfinished game.
They'll put it out and act like its fine and so on and so on we'll notice problems. then game breaking bugs. then bs that we we're promised would never happen.
Believe me. I love ark and i hope to god that ark 2 works out. But the direction they're going. It aint ark anymore.
Yes it is
What said that souls combat and advances movement couldn't be in the game
Or any new mechanic
What defines ark as a series is (as we see from ark 2 being different) not as simple as “we’ll just modify ark 1”
It seems the core of ark revolves around exploring an open ended map and taming creatures
You mean change the core formula to the betterment of the franchise? Yeah, drove God of War right out the window, that's what it did... and Tomb Raider... and Resident Evil... I could go on, but I won't. But I could.
But ark 2 isn’t changing the formula afaik lol
It’s just changing many mechanics and the theme of the game. The core “what is ark” seems to be the same
Oh I know that, I was just referring to what he seemed to be describing, and giving examples of why he was dead wrong in thinking that way.
It’s certainly a risk to change things up. But it’s not a certain failure lol
I feel like you are making a lot of assumptions out of very little information
Either way a sequel without new mechanics is just an overhaul, not really a sequel
Not gonna lie. Thinking ARK is ARK for its first-person is like thinking Fallout shouldn't had switch from the top-down RPG to first-person.
The devs just gotta do one thing and that’s start putting out votes or something similar to feedback about ark 2 in The ark 1 game itself wer ppl who actually play the game can answer what they think and want. I rate discord but I bet half this chat don’t play ark much or are new and think they know best lol
we need more ark 2 news mon
Oh boy… if they are taking out first person from the base game, that’s for a reason we will know when they start sharing more info. Also, it’s already explained that it can be brought back through mods.
Just a design option, for reasons we don’t know yet. Saying it won’t be Ark anymore is laughable.
I heard this same reasoning when they first introduced the tek tier. Same people are still playing and liking it. Oh well, I will just give them the benefit of the doubt.
And while i personally don't agree with it. It is what it is and wont ruin the game for me.
Only the immersion.
I think the world itself being believable is way more important to immersion than camera angle
I hope it has a good PVE side to it sense im a big PVE guy.
Well, so far ARK-2 sounds a bit more PvE based.
There's a good financial reason for that.
I dont know why you would make a new game instead of fixing problems in the old game wildcard are money grabbers
the new game is fixing the old game
the only way to fix the old game is to make an entirely new game
hoping it becomes more community content friendly even beyond mod support
though maybe mod support is all that this community really needs
Not sure what this means…
honestly now that i think about it neither do i tbh
cause basically all community content revolves around mods and being able to make your own server
i guess skins could be a thing
Perhaps having a way to share art or characters would be cool
there was that whole base blueprint thingy mentioned on steam right
Yes, but I meant more like the art canvas stuff
wonder if that works across servers or if theres some ui where you can save bases in
if that exists you can have art and skins across servers too hopefully
how does in game canvas art work
like cant you directly upload files into ark or something
theres that painting canvas which i think exists but the last ive even thought about it was maybe 2 years ago
idek if its a mod or official
oh cool it does exist officially
Hmmyes
Oh wow, someone that understands that you can't just fix a 7 year old game and keep it financially stable, isn't the best idea. And the way you improve upon a game is to make a new one with newer technology.
some things just can't be fixed, seems some people don't understand that here
This must be a request for elaboration, if I'm assuming the best in people. So:
PvE is simply more popular for a long-term format. Long-term PvP is nowhere near the unit mover, and that's evidenced across most (if not all) genres.
If Ark 2 were to retain its current PvP focus, it would flounder hard.
Yeah, survival games just aren't really made to survive in a competitive field.
I think there's some lessons to learn from Valheim in that regard. It's a solid setup.
Didnt Valheim die like 3 months in
That's the point
Content drops weren’t regular enough I believe was the cause
Yep
Which kinda proves my point about why ark pushed content over bug fixes
It was a good game with a good foundation.
But like every other early-access game, they don't keep it alive long enough
Thats fair
That's how ARK survived.
It had updates every 2-3 months that added new creatures, and (till recently) Yearly duo-maps, one free and one paid.
Sounds epic tbh
Content>bugs generally
You just need to make sure the core game works
I see like an annoying bug like once a week
With multiplayer its worse admittedly and can make you lose thousands of collective hours though so ig i see the point of complaining there
Well, with ARK-2 having a better foundation and them actually having some pocket change to spare, it's more likely that ARK-2 will be less bug ridden as ARK-1 is.
Players also didn’t punish WC 🤷♂️
The game was unique enough and had enough content that people showed with their wallets they preferred the system WC had deployed
I mean the players encountering bugs couldnt punish wc if they wanted to tbh
They already committed their money to the game
As a collective? Absolutely. Sales and DLC sales especially could have plummeted
At least with multiplayer
Hoping there's more instruments in ARK-2.
Dlc sales are primarily coming from new players ever since genesis season pass
Its not like mtx or something where you can really cut off revenue in any timely fashion
Nah, a lot of veterans also get the DLC's to make sure they have the newest and most powerful creatures
Yes. And if bugs are so bad nobody liked them those new players would see those negative reviews and they wouldn’t buy the game
Those reviews already exist
Like isnt there that whole steam rating system where ark is on a bugginess scale
People post about it all the time
Its effectively a meme now
Right, but the positives have outweighed the negatives outside of SE
Didnt stop new people from getting the game though
It's a meme, but its by far NOT the buggiest game. But it's up there.
Its just that its known to be buggy
ARK is at least actually playable.
Go onto Fallout 76, and you'll see what a true bug ridden game is.
Even amongst the wider gaming community
Yeah i dont think the game actually is that buggy, just saying perception is already there
Maybe it was that buggy in 2017
Yeah, and that happens when people mass spread information that's a bit exaggerated.
Yet despite that sales still kept coming in
Cause bugs don't make a game.
Content does.
So i dont think reviews are a useful tool for consumers to force these devs to change
As long as it's in a playable state, then it's going to make money.
Shifter wasn't saying reviews.
Pog/spart/rockwell dude i know
Reviews alter spending behavior and thus alter money, but I meant strictly number of purchases, which many things effect
Or he did.
Im saying that there isnt much ability in the first place for people to affect revenue due to how wc makes revenue on this game
You know how many games have DLC nobody buys?
Since it comes in big yearly chunks or by multi year dlc passes
Tons of indie titles just eat shit and don’t make it lol. And consumer spending is what empowers success or failure
ARK's reviews have also never been in the 'majority negative' on Steam before.
If you want a game example that reviews killed it. Look at Cyberpunk on release.
Might also be partially through server rev but not sure
Servers I think are a cost for WC
What about unof tho
Unofficial is from 'unofficial' server rentals
I doubt nitrado or whoever provides servers takes 100% or didnt sign some deal
Hosting a server from a device is free.
But most people don't do that, and buy servers.
They don’t pay WC in either case
Damn thats bull
Yep.
Wildcard is paying Nitrado to run their servers.
Wc shouldve taken at least a decent cut from nitrado since its their code people are playing for
Obv official makes sense
For official perhaps? My guess tho is only if the deal was an exclusivity contract for ONLY nitrado to run ark official servers. Then they may have paid less
So many people argue that they would rather bug>content which seems like a loud minority
Yep. And all of them are lying
I believe they got a deal back in 2015 to have like 100 servers for a discounted price.
This sounds plausible
Idk still seems kinda shitty for wc
Like the whole tek argument.
That’s just how money works? Hosting a server costs money and someone has to pay for it
Why u gotta mention that
If your company’s job is to get money hosting servers for folks…you gotta charge for it lol
Sure but wc getting 0 from unofficials might be why they dont even try to improve mod support for the last half decade
They need to make sure the computers for the servers are top-notch, and pay the electricity bill somehow.
They get money from every player who buys the game to play unofficial. Unofficial players probably are worth MORE money than official
Im not saying wc should get 100%
Since it’s free for WC to have you host a server
They definitely are as a group now, since they make up the majority of the multiplayer population
Unofficial servers are literally that. 'unofficial' servers that have nothing to do with Wildcard.
Why would they need to pay Wildcard when both sides aren't losing money?
Again, monetarily speaking, it’s best for WC to have 100% unofficial
That way 100% of your money goes to WC and 0% goes to hosting the servers you play on
Either that, or not fucking 200+ official servers.
Honestly I'd rather this outcome
I get ticked often knowing my money I spent on WC was probably eaten up by official servers I never use 😅. Since I’m a big believer in spending money on development whenever possible
True
It’s why I’d prefer a monthly sub to official and actual hired moderation staff. Let official folks buy an MMO that actually works like one, and those of us who want unofficial can spend money we know goes to developing the game
Hopefully mod support comes far enough that unofficial becomes really fun
Thing is, will everyone else?
Most common complaint I hear from PvP is cheaters and no CoC enforcement, but they’d know better than I
All tje unofficials i find are literally just fibercraft, rp that takes 300 mods to play +steam account whitelist and other bs, or just official with modified rates
I think official with modified rates is the best option
“Official with modified rates” is like peak unofficial lol. If I’m working, I can’t play official rates 😂
Theres no functionally interesting mods
Looking back that's what i wish happened
S+ was really good, I like super spyglass too
Theres just qol shit and kit shops from my experience

Hang on, i know this one mod that changes the game slightly.
QoL is a big deal lol, I wouldn’t disparage that
Primal fear
Yeah but ideally wc would just fix their game to make said qol improvement
I thought The Hunted had some A+ tier design ideas
I need to look into some mods like the two mentioned tbf
Homestead update. But also some QoL would have been hotly contentious or not worked in both PvE and PvP
But i never really see servers using them
All my experience is browsing #800537518843756544 and its all garbage xd
ARK Genomes add more corruption stuff.
It adds different types of storms, different type of element veins, a new research system, etc.
Because if a server wants players it needs to be broadly appealing usually. And these big mods need lots of attention and cause a lot of crashes or server wipes
Usually each of these massive mod projects has a few servers floating around, but if I wanted to run an unofficial (that had an actual player count) I would probably either directly collaborate with a big mod maker or I’d not bother and instead be vanilla+
I think theres more than enough people who want a multiplayer experience thats ark but significantly different to vanilla
Crashes/bugs might be a big issue i wouldnt really know
If it's a big mod like primal fear
Yes but agreeing on rates and mods is not simple lol. Lots of folks become very choosy about what they want to see
I mean that the aforementioned group is so large that there will inevitably be at least a hundred or 200 people available to play said server
Im guessing though
I might be overly optimistic about how willing most ark players are to play on an actually unique server
I feel like there are more people who play modded on steam than there are that play vanilla
But it usually is just stuff like stack mods and structure mods with an occasional added dino
You're probably right
I know my cousin and my brother use ARK mods that make building easier and stuff like that
Which makes me excited for ARK 2 because we can have mods on Console and stuff
Hello
hi
Until you spawn near an already aggressive trike
The hunted mod was pretty exceptional, the only issue it had was the limits of ark ai

PREACH brother
this is why i prefer official didnt exist and focus on the game that is almost bug free and with real mod support
let the players make their own spin on "official" rates, let players self-moderate
that way it makes the game's longevity more longer than games with no unofficial servers (i am looking at you most MMO games)
if they failed self-moderation, others will make their own better server, nothing to blame WC this time (unless it's a core game or dev kit issue)
Pls dont add tek to pvp in ark 2 ruined pvp
Also i think new types of armor and for dinos too
They wont
whats this game about
Space travel and exploration
Reading the pins is always a tried and true method of finding out the known information we have on the game
Im hoping for more dyes. Color and like when you paint a wall white it actually looks white. lol
Maybe the ability to add color to the dinos. With the interactive environment it can be washed off in the rain 🙂 idk. give the player reason to make tons of it haha
😅 Hope no aimbot at ARK2
Not for a while probably
I HOPE the character hitbox doesnt change when you make a character smaller or bigger
So everyone isnt a tiny little black lady
Completely custom dye color would be nice, like being able to make any shade of color ever
Rain washing paint away reminds me of the mobile mammoth, which can wash paint off structures by spraying water from it's trunk
Every one will have the same vin diesel shaped hitbox
Better than making pygmy people meta
Or the ability to make event colors. New colors come with new recipe. Iv screamed that for years though for ark 1. Lol
I do like a high variety of colors but not to the point where it becomes hypixel or only a few people can free paint / draw on the in-game canvass better while everyone is resorted to PNT converters
Sometimes I enjoy the limited colors, like you are actually drawing with crayons
I like ATLAS' additional coloring but I hate the redundant shades of the same color
I also hate that the colors will not come out as the same as the icon color (that is also true with ARK)
Too many colors would just break the immersion of the game
Hoping this game goes back to the stone age….
Early game ark really shines and i think turning that into the whole game would be the best way to make an actually great game
I would like A LOT of colors…
Theres a limit tho
Replace mutation stacking with a training system!
Don’t like the 3rd person only view, also not sure the controlled combat system will be enjoyable either
I’m curious to see a gameplay. Until then, I can’t say I hate it or like it. It can be better than the ark 1 combat system. We will see.
Walk me through what “controlled” means? You mean more input heavy combat?
By controlled I think he means the souls like combat system.
I’m aware he means the combat system but I want more specifics
Is it the input heavy nature? The possibly more accurate bitecones and hitboxes? The system of staggers/blocks/parries? More/less flexible movement of the character or tame?
That’s basically that.
Or is the worry more about such combat being hard against groups of creatures? Is he worried it’ll make combat too long? Too annoying?
BUT like I’ve said above, we better wait and see how they implement it
the only thing i'm waiting for to form my final opinions are mainly combat/movement, third person view and the new ai/ aratai untill gameplay arrives
I think he just prefers a free combat system. But I wouldn’t say the combat on Ark 1 is great. 😂
I’m buying the game at launch if the taming isn’t miserable and you can host private servers
caveman stab spear that's it 😂
Yeah, I really need to see a gameplay. I’m in the dark here.
Right? 😂
I’d only expect to see gameplay if we could preorder
But since we can’t preorder or spend money on it, I don’t see the rush on seeing anything specific like gameplay
such rich combat mechanics lol
Developers usually release some gameplay before release. So gamers know in advance some of the mechanics
I’m sure they will release gameplay footage before the early-access
probably going more in detail with extra life with some potential screenshots/gameplay and then more reveals over time maybe
I think that too
a bit unwise to show everything all at once way before the game launches in early access, kills a lot of hype
The early-access release will happen between 4 months - 1 year and 4 months.
We can be closer than what we think, I don’t know
expect it at the fastest on midnight new years eve xD best case scenario
Sure. I hope to be surprised when first playing the game. The issue right is I’m in the dark. We have no idea how the mechanics will work. It’s clearly not ark 1 in a new engine.
They are changing the basic mechanics: crafting and combat for example
I just want short footage of things. Some screenshots.
imo those changes are for the better, as they make the fighting more interesting
Ok yes, but release isn’t any time soon XD
I don’t know. In 4 months it will be 2023 😂
Even a week or a day before is fine lol, as long as it’s before I can hit “buy”. I also want to be able to blind play
in 4 months i'll be working already
Dear LORD ark 1 was hard to play blind. Straight up miserably hard to figure out how torpor and taming worked
I think that too. But I need more info to judge.
Really?
I always thought the game was intuitive enough
Dododex and wiki was more about efficiency
