@stray elm getcho ass over here NOW your in big trouble young man
Tag my ass again, and i'll send you cursed memes
With?
@untold totem wants to speak with you
no i dont
Oh really
Dark forces Sounds more like corrupted element or simlar to me.
Idc I'm still making him explain
'Well, if you insist in asking'
The natives are clearly not the good guys in the story.
Except they are
Ah yes.
Just like how the indians where the bad guys when the British came to America
You telling me if Alien life crash landed on Earth and I just started shooting them I’d be the good guy?
They attack in the trailer which at First makes them Look as the Bad guys but we don't even know the reason.
Yes we do.
To drive us off their planet
Steam page says it
Vindiago might have slaughteres some of them first
Yes
Bit why do they want it ? Maybe humans behaved Like assholes.
If they started to colonize and brought destructive creatures that aren't native to theirs and starts killing their families and children and causing a inbalance to the ecosystem
Yes, you'd be justified.
Read above. 🙂
I mean what else are they gonna do? They crash landed. They can’t just leave. Colonizing is their only option.
That is what I mean. People often ignore that fact might be a thing.
Doesn't give them the right to 'not' be angry about it.
Surviving isn’t a sin
Depends on how.
Exactly.
And the Aratai's are trying to survive in a now unbalanced ecosystem
Caused by said humans
Survival and murder are 2 different things. A crash landing isn’t a hostile takeover.
We also don't know if the shipped didn't, oh, i don't know.
Perhaps land on a major city/town of theirs and killed tens of thousands of their kind?
Would be pretty Boring to have the orks as the pure evil ones.
You'd be pissed if some alien crashed on your house, then started stealing all your food, while bringing space-crabs that are infesting your family and slowly and painfully killing them.
But it's all cool, cause they needed somewhere to live.
Or ruined a sacred Site of them, Destroyer an important food source, brought illnesses, etc
There's gonna be an aratai AI that breaks into your house, dosent steal anything, and just inconveniences you. I bet money on it
Or just straight inconvieniences you
Like they send pegomastax and whistle attack target on all ur dinos
I mean yeah I’d be upset but they crashed, they didn’t do anything intentionally. As a reasonable person I wouldnt be inclined to pull out the AK and start kneecapping aliens.
I would
Ah, but you see. You would if you had the mindset of them being the issue.
Put yourself in others shoes, not just your own.
To a primitive species. A strange object just fell out of the sky, and ever since strange beings that look like your own race have came, but with this new creatures that are highly aggressive and killing everything and destroying your crops.
These are simple beasts though, while these other "Aranoid" species are smart as you are. Meaning that out of everything, 'they're' the cause of the issue.
Or they simply are either generic villains. Or they just see humans as a better source of proteins.
Killing someone who has no nefarious intentions is evil no matter who’s shoes your in.
"They're eating her. And now they're going to eat me.
Oh my gooooooood"
Hard disagree
Good and evil is a pretty narrowminded way of thinking of stuff.
There's a reasoning to everything, even if it doesn't apply to your opinions.
They are 'aliens' after all.
Their morality can be very, very different then ours.
For all we know. They could be a Predator like species and have a "thrill of the hunt" mindset.
New people on the planet? New fun!
Does that make them evil?
No, it just makes them sadistic to 'us'
But to them, this is normal.
Yes. Evil is normal to evil people.
Again, that's pretty narrow thinking.
It’s really not. Excusing evil because it can be justified is just as bad as being evil.
You don't have to agree of what they're doing.
But you can understand the 'why' they're doing it.
Not justifying them hunting human for sport.
Justifying would be me trying to defend them. Which i am not in that theoretical situation.
But it's a narrow, you could even argue 'primitive' type of thinking to think of life as 'good' and 'evil'
There is a reasoning to everyone's choices.
You don't have to agree with it, and that's fine.
But blindly thinking someone is evil for the sake of evil without a reasoning is, in it's own way, slightly primitive thinking.
So, by your logic, a lion is evil because it kills it's prey and then eats it to survive? I don't know about that one, bud
Or 90% of mammals are evil, cause most kill for sports when they get bored.
Not even just mammals, 90% of life on Earth, period
No. Lions kill when they’re hungry. That’s survival. They don’t just go out and murder people.
I hate virus that invade my body without permission to death.
But does that make them evil?
No, they're simply doing what they evolved to do to survive.
Yeah actually, they do.
No they don’t.
Humans aren't special.
We're not the only species that hunt just to hunt.
I can send you plenty of footage of animals killing for the sake of killing, without eating said kill.
My point must have fallen out of the statement, because it was entirely missed
Surplus killing: "Surplus killing, also known as excessive killing, killing for sport, henhouse syndrome, or overkill, is a common behavior exhibited by predators, in which they kill more prey than they can immediately eat and then they either cache or abandon the remainder."
No. You can send me footage of animals killing for food or protection. Not just killing to kill. Maybe Orcas, but they’re kind of evil.
"Lions Kill For Sport Just Like House Cats
They like to chase, play, and kill animals like birds and rodents, just like a smaller cat would. Take the example of a group of lionesses one biologist witnessed in Botswana."
"Zoosadism is pleasure derived from cruelty to animals."
There is so much footage of creatures killing for sport, you are kinda dead wrong if you think otherwise. But go ahead and die on that hill if you want, I guess... it's a shitty hill lmao
You guys are comparing animals to sentient creatures capable of logic and reasoning.
A: They're both animals.
B: We don't know the extent of their intelligence.
Neanderthals made tools, but they where still primitive enough to not care about how other species feel other then themselves.
The Orks are the bad guys. They’re evil.
They do seem to be an antagonist to the player
If that's what you think, chap.
I wasn't trying to convince you of that whole spiel, but you are wrong if you think it's not a thing that animals (and furthermore, life in general) do/does, just sayin. My point was that the Aratai are fighting to survive, just as we are in this new and hostile world. So, henceforth, they are not evil incarnate per se, just fighting to survive. Different thing entirely
No shit.
Yet, antagonist doesn't mean 'bad'
Just means a opposing force to the main protagonist.
I know
As were the native americans, right? Check yer self, lmao
Evil is a very loose term and basically applies to people who do things you dislike
Exactly!
Ehhhhh, I beg to differ
And 'good' is when someone does something nice to you to give you the funny dopamine juice.
It's all perspective.
Ok what is evil?
They could be also fighting for fun.
Which, is bad for us.
But doesn't make them 'evil'
Just makes them a greater threat.
No. Once again you’re off point. The Native Americans were defending their lands from people actively trying to take it. People who came to their land to take it.Not survivors of a ship wreck who have no other options but to live where they landed.
In the description they seem to be fighting us because they dont want us on their planet
And said people where running away from a dictator who was chopping the heads off of people for not having the same religion he had.
Does it justify what early Americans did to the natives?
Hell no!
But you can 'understand' both sides.
The problem is we often think in games we are the good guys cause we see things out of the perspective of the protatgonist/us.
Like take The Last of US2.. we play as Ellie and we see it first as Evil that Abby kills/slaugters Joel only to see later that Abby only killed Joel cause he killed her dad (cause he did not want Ellie to be killed for a cure to heal humanity as a whole).
Who is now evil ?
Forgot about that in this whole discussion.
Can we tame the humanoid AI like in conan and use them to help defend our territory?
We don't know
We NEED to know now
@unkempt wing we need to know if we can tame people
I'm probably getting banned 😦
Uh you can tame other players by becoming friends
It's all perspective.
But why ? Only cause we stink or cause we messed up ?
"I am passive taming you by giving you likes and dopamine on Twitter"
Cause we imbalanced their ecosystem with aliens
It is and actually both sis not very nice things but if you know both sides you at least understand the reasoning behind it. Humans are no good.. it is all grey.
Nah I can only be tamed by m o n e y
But maybe there is even more to it, we don't know yet.
Well, it is more or less regarded as the opposite of good, or as "morally wrong" and is usually used to describe things/people that cause harm and suffering for the sake of doing so. It's not really meant to be subjective, but then again neither is "good", at least it wasn't supposed to be... so, idk, actually. In the current world, I guess it can be taken any number of ways lol
Well then, we dont know
No. I can’t understand both sides. It doesn’t matter why the colonizers came to America. Genocide is not acceptable. It doesn’t matter why you’re doing it.
I'll give you 10$ for being my friend. 💸
Hmm, this man is a lose cause then.
Deal
Evil is bad because its evil obviously
"Good is good, and evil is bad."
Agreed
A lost cause for not sympathizing with genocide?
We could be evil to Indian people cause we eat cows.
I'm evil to muslims because I eat pork, I guess, then
For us it is normal and nothing evil at all cause different morality and believes.
Only was a super banal example but yeah.. some Muslims say you got to hell when you eat pork
Ark 2 though
No.
Lose cause for not understanding what we've been trying to say for the past 30 minutes.
Which has nothing to do with genocide.
Without seeing both sides, you can't come to a agreement and end a war peacefully. (even if it's too late for the fallen)
But only seeing that your side is right, only leads to one side winning.
Maybe humans ate some holy animal of the Orks and now need to be driven off the planet cause of it additional to fucking up the planet with invasive species (and humans are themself an invasive one).
They started worshipping dodos, and then we eat them like some everyday KFC.
I mean it would be interesting if there were different types of aratai which were mainly differentiated because they have different religions or cultures
And this has to do with perspective.
They see us commiting genocide of their holy animal.
We see it as just eating with the fam.
Yeah, we are the invasive species here, more so than the dinosaurs and all that other shit, we could really fuck over their planet, and that is why they don't want us there. I imagine, anyways.
Hell yeah!
World building!
Yeah and they might see us as the big evil that came from the starts that ruins their planet and lifes.
Maybe a later on sub-faction that doesn't agree with the motives of the major faction.
Having a chance for a possible peace between species.
I feel they're much smarter than we think, and somehow found out why we're here in the first place
Still wondering what gonna be added after initial launch because im pretty sure it was stated all of the features on the steam page are for the early access release
That would be neat if they were extremly smart and not tumb and as primitive as we think.
Maybe we even brought the dark forces with us and that is a reason they want us gone.
Oh no, i think they're 100% hella primitive.
But it would be interesting if they have onpar modern human understanding capabilities.
Yeah the more we advance the more they learn from us and advance themselves
Which, if that is the case.
Given the resources and time. They could get smarter then humans ever did. If they already have that much understanding in such a primitive state
I mean in their thinking. Not primitive in their thinking.
Ah, right.
I swear, if they end up being the creators of element, I'm going to scream atoadaso at everyone here
What do their philosophers think
Which doesn't change the fact that aliens (to us) made element, and they could be those aliens, lmao
'Now'
If their planet originally had a form of element on it, and they mutated/evolved alongside it for million of years. Then 'that' would be interesting.
Would be actually fun to see when humans advance that the Aratai adapt or even learn from the Ring ruins themself and advance. Would give a nice challange.
The element are too advanced to be created by such primitive civilization who wears nothing but bones
Unless they blasted themselves back to a primitive state.
Also, not what we're talking about
It set us back to the stone age...
Element could be formed naturally
That too, but I doubt it tbh
I doubt that.
I'd kind of be pissed if they went with the "element has always existed" wrought.
Maybe we can tell them that it was either us or giant tentacle man and that they are probably lucky that we killed him
I am more agree of them being natural than "invented by someone"
Especially that looked like a literal Ork from any fantasy setting that doubled down on the ooga booga
Element is already based off of The Expanse.
Why not go full out and make it Genetically made by a ancient civilization?
Like, to be fair.
Their design isn't farfetch of alien life.
What if the ancient civilization transferred the entire collective conscious into it and that is the element hivemind
HMMMM!!
Honestly, a pretty original idea that's a hybrid of the Floods origins from Halo
Anyway if i had to guess i would say bob created element
True
Bob consumes all
Also i hope that the default name in ark 2 is blank so you have to fill it in with something because as much as i love bob and human and bobette i would like more unique names
"The true Aratai's are the ones we made along the way"
Bob made element
Hopefully a random name generator.
With a .000001% of you getting Bob.
Ehhhh, artificial life isn't that hard to make, I wouldn't be surprised if it's all just been one AI-like being this whole time
How much life have you made lol
I am not allowed to say a name anymore lol
does it start with b
D
yes son, your name is dad

Is it david wildcard long lost 3rd wildcard founder
lmao
Artificial* life, big difference
From what
It's not a compound is an actual element
Ex
Anyways how smart are aratai
We dunno
I think it would be much better if they had scaled intelligence and not just static stone age tech
What if we just ran into a poor "African (for the sake of analogy)" aratai village and aratai are actually just as smart as 1900s people?
Maybe maybe not we do not have enough information
Can’t really scale the whole map in an MMO without wipes, although I admit it would be insanely cool to do so
I also read the whole morality thing. +2 to the folks who recognize universal morality straight up doesn’t exist and good/evil are not defined by anything but culture and circumstances
I see the Aratai as competitive natives seeking survival against an invasive species and nothing more personally. They don’t seem to be initiating civilization wide warfare, they just seem to be a skirmish heavy race that where possible seeks to thin out or remove nearby humans. Given they tame our earth creatures it seems the beef stems from them occupying the same niche as humans
My understanding is that our biologic intelligence has been largely the same for tens of thousands of years. It’s only our learned intelligence (IE the sum total of our recorded knowledge) that’s rapidly increased over the last couple thousand years
this ^
otherwise we wouldnt be wasting our time teaching every generation the same shit over and over
Our ability to teach is so insanely valuable. The fact we can record it even moreso, since we can save multiple generations of knowledge. Couple that with the specialization agriculture allowed and that’s a civilization slated for success
How is that related to my comment
“As smart as 1900s people” implies biologic intelligence to me? Since generally tech/knowledge isn’t smart per se? I’m open to admitting I misread ya ofc
I meant technological advances
They are starting to fuck around with nuclear technology, and aircrafts
Ah. It’s plausible but unlikely, since inventing aircraft probably means that you’d seem them on an orbital drop or at minimum a crash the size of the genesis ship would attract them from places that had them
So I've been playing some Monster Hunter World, and I have a sneaking suspicion this is the direction ARK is going.
I’d KILL to see this crossover (content wise ofc)
Carving ark creatures for parts to use in the modular crafting, actual fights where the creatures show off a personality? That stuff is so dang cool
Bingo, remember we're gonna be making weapons exactly like that.
Dinosaur Parts = Infinite combination of Weapons.
We actually have no idea if the materials are going to be as diverse as MH or not. But it would be amazing
You can get a lot of combinations with 4-5 slots and some wood variants lol there’s a huge variance in what we see that’s all technically true when they say “millions”
And the Monsters walking around the Map in a set path is quite like Migration.
I feel ARK would be a bit more creatures with it though, MHW is really predictable with it.
Idk MHW has some predictability for sure, but it takes a long time to master it. For example I spent a long time waiting to learn that viper tobi comes out of the caves to hunt popo
The whole parkour thing sounds straight out of MHW, like with the hanging vines and the clusters of wood.
It FEELS like I'm playing ARK 2.
It really depends on how they do that system, MH isn’t the first for sure, but it’s an example of it. It depends if the parkour is free or not
MHW had constrained parkour but games like BotW had free parkour
I dunno, 8 hours in and all I can think is "Wow, this is pretty much exactly what ARK 2 on the Steam page describes."
And, "What the FUCK is that giant as T-Rex behind me"
I’d say monster hunter is by no means a sandbox. And ofc no building
Well yeah, minus the Survival aspects.
Add hunger, thirst, building and a way bigger map with more Monsters and you have ARK 2, I reckon.
I totally agree there’s a lot that could be in common. I’m curious about many of the systems and how they’d all work
I think the combat will by nature be less interesting than MH
People won’t want a 15-30min TTK on a rex is my guess. And for PvP that would probably get annoying for them
Lame.
I wanna have to hunt down giant ass creatures that take an hour to take down.
Unironically.
I can understand easy kills for Dodos and Raptors and whatnot
But if I'm fighting a Rex, that should take awhile
It would be fun, but i suspect it won’t be ark 2’s style
I sense ark 2 creatures will be tougher than ark 1’s from a skill perspective, and i hope it’s a “less kills but more drops/higher quality drops per kill” since I hate meat runs…but I doubt it’ll be like MH. After all, ark is a survival series and MHW is about fighting the monsters lol
It's a pvp game bruh, you can tame dinos on ark. And if they had mh health then there'd be no point in doing almost anything but riding a dino and it'd make it impossible to do anything to someone with one on foot.
Give them the giga nerf.

That way hunting anything will still be a challenge, easier, but a challenge.
Gotta learn how to mod, so I can just make this my reality.
😐 Just go play mh if you want that
I wish
Watch the Fast and Furious movies on one monitor, and Jurassic Park on the other.

The ARK 2 lore experience.
I'm poor I don't have multiple monitors
@fair sun 1v1 me in minecraft ur awful
100% agree. I suck at minecraft
thank you for agreeing
Valid idea tbh, although I suspect it’ll never happen it’s a cool way to balance the environment to remain tricky while keeping taming in the game. The issue is that in PvP it would mean everyone just whoops your tames unless they’re as unpredictable as players lol
Well no, because everyone would have the nerf.
I mean that the value of tames would drop, since as a foot player you could just souls style kill everyone’s tames
What makes ark 1 tames scary is that you’ll never out dps them and if they’re on you, that’s extremely bad news lol
I have an old 12" Polaroid tv from my parents house as my second monitor
Uhhhh is it true that vin diesel actually plays ark lmao
yep googled a bit found a reddit post with a screenshot from his insta account
that picture with him behind a monitor displaying ark
Related to ark2 or just random tidbits?
yes it is
hi country
That is what is said.. how much he really plays no one really knows.
Might be for marketing only and in reality he does not really play much.
is ark 2 gonna be on xbox one?
All info is in the pins
current gen only, so for xbox only series x and the other new one
I more so would like regional intelligence and intelligence increases in each DLC. It would be alot more valuable story-wise to wildcard to have the aratai have a lost civilization or just greater societal depth, since unknowns hook player interest.
Oh you mean like lore intelligence rather than AI? Cause that’s fine by me to a point
It is said that ARK2 will have MH vibes is that true? or just a random fact ?
Yeah, lore and more advanced equipment, not ai
unless stated by wildcard it isn't officially confirmed
we'll see in extra life then , thanks flobs
Read the pins and make your choice on if it seems like MH
The most annoying thing about Ark II is, it’s been two years since the official announcement and we only have two 1 minute trailers showing nothing of the gameplay. I’m still hyped for sure, but a little annoyed by that.
True, true
1 gameplay showing most of the game and I would be good for another year.
Hopefully… 😖
No smart dev has a trailer showing most of the game lol
you want people to explore and experience the game and its content
Well, no der.
But they should show some actual gameplay before the game releases.
im not expecting gameplay content in the extra life event , more like creature concepts , weapons , maybe some ingame screenshots , you know , that kind of stuff
Wildcard is also expected to come to Gamescon, which is next month
they have a lot of time to release gameplay before release
didnt knew about that , hope so then
I'd rather see gameplay as late as possible, so WC gets more time to develop the game before giving us expectations via gameplay footage
Yeah, I'm not all that worried about seeing more I just want them to focus on making sure it's smooth
Obviously I'm expecting bugs in the beginning, what game doesn't have them, but hoping for better luck in the long run
I don’t mind bugs but I hated ones like falling through the mesh out if now there or having issues with bosses just not working
Hopefully without the spaghetti code it'll be easier to fix things like that without breaking 80 other things and instead only messing up slightly like other games do sometimes
Is it likely for ark 2 to work at 60 fps on xbox series x or is it gonna be stuck at 30fps?
Assuming the ark2 optimization isn't the same or even worse than the first one's
We have no idea
Aight thanks, is there any ETA for the release besides that it's gonna release in 2023?
Nope
Damn tough
Thanks for answering my questions tho, have a nice day
Wait is it true that ark 2 will only launch on xbox and pc and not ps?
At launch yes, we don't know about later on down the road.
Yep.
Since it's coming out in early-access
Okay that's cool, glad to hear that since I got the xsx lol. Cheers
Well it shouldn't matter anyway as I will get my PC before it releases so I guess it doesn't matter that much
Hm
is it going to be more pve or pvp
We don't know yet, current info is in the pins
You know what would be really cool for ark 2, if single player allowed you to seamlessly transfer from one map to another like a cluster, rather than the upload/download that you have to do now
well it does work like a cluster in that you use obelisks to transfer items between maps
it would be cool if in SP ascending places you on the next map tho
It works like separate maps, not like a cluster
Define seamless
Like on a cluster? Being able to transfer with a full kit would be kind of nice
circular structures would be cool
and maybe cliff specific structures as well
yes

this
I think having a charecter screen on the main menu would help this, no need to load in a server to transfer.
However there are a few downsides for PVP for anytime transfers
Why are they expected to be there? They are confirmed to be at PAX West for the Switch release. Not sure there's any expectation for them to be at Gamescom unless i've missed something.
didnt they say it was gonna be 2022
kinda dont belive its gonna be 2023 either
Right spirit
The game comes out when you see it open on steam 😂
Bet its gonna be in coming soon longer than karlson lmao
The key with WC is always patience. It’ll come out, but don’t sweat the when 😆
The only people I know can’t do that are content creators who want to host big launch streams…rescheduling those sounds super irritating
been playing ark for 3 years already damn
Played since 2015, and it’s been a journey. Ark 2 will be a good next step
7 years go so fast dont they
Only in retrospect lol, but yea
I remember i didnt have a good pc or anything always loved to watch one youtuber of my nationality he did a lot of ark videos, now he cringe 😢
Bet hes gonna play ark 2 when it comes out
I had a gaming laptop when I first played ark and it was very unhappy lol. Couldn’t play SE on launch because it ran so badly
damn you couldve fired eggs on that thing probably while playing ark
First thing I did on my current PC was play Val on high settings, and I almost cried looking at how beautiful ark as a series could be. Ark 2 will likely look even better
Eggs? I could have grilled steak 😂
kek
If i could just be in the pc master race and play ark online, im not gonna pay 10 bucks a month to microsoft
Also old ass pc doesnt count as pc master race ngl
I used to be big into consoles but once I realized steam was the big wave and every console charged for multiplayer I was like: “pc time”
Ik steam is the shit and i got ark on steam while it was free
but i hardly play anything on steam
I’m big into early access games so steam is by far the best formal platform for that
aight so whats the deal with ark 2 like ark 1 is the ARK space stations and that and the homo deus dudes but whats ark 2
Ark 2 is Onga bonga Vin Diesel on a new planet with primitive Orks that want to kick humans from their planet again, with some family story of Vin having to safe his daughter and some dar forces. Best check the steam page. Also onga bonga primitive now.
No Arks anymore.
Bold prediction. Maybe the fallen ring is the new ark 👀👀👀
Maybe ark itself gains new meaning 👀👀
Not Arks as we know them from Ark 1
ANd the ship Ring is the ship ring, not an Ark.
Right but I’m just messing around. I don’t have exhaustive lore knowledge, especially after I checked out post extinction
XD
hello
I want one thing: Owlbear.
I unwant owlbears. Keep the copy pasted fantasy stuff out of ark pls unless it’s a mod…nothing kills immersion for me like stapling animal parts to each other
My feelings are unchanged with that boss
The Aratai aren’t stapling random animal parts together per se. It’s humanoids with tusks right? That’s not like slapping a lion’s head on a person
mostly bigger humanoids with some spikes on their body/different teeth
I think mythology is a good starting point, but you need to actually make@it look like an animal
Will ark 2 be an actual paid game or will they make it free temporarily like they did a couple months ago
you need to wait for 7 years for it to be free lol
Paid
still bad
The game being free was because fjordur was the last dlc and they probably wanted to get as many new players as possible
And imo they succeeded massively in that
the game being free has made account sellers so much money
That’s a small minority
and since it's a violation of ARK's Code of Conduct, those accounts will get banned
of what
Of people who sell/bought accounts
They are the reason people blatantly cheat on smalltribes
why bother buying accounts when you make an account for free and get the game legitimately
If they made it free they might as well just burn the money
It isnt a minority because the BIGGEST threat on smalls are cheaters who cheat because they can just buy an account for £1
#OfficialSUCKS
Every game has their cheaters. There’s very little ways to stop people cheating even when the game is free for a period of time
And they always end up getting caught
I suppose it depends on the mythology. I’m against chimeras because it makes me angry as a biologist lol but other stuff like Fenrir bothers me far less
As for cheaters, yes it’s a pretty substantiated claim that a free game means more accounts, more ban evasion and smurfing, and more cheating. That’s the most major drawback
It was still a good marketing because it brought people to their game
it would be fun without the cheaters
#PlayUnofficial
I’m more thinking from a design perspective, ark griffins just really stick out because it’s literally just a hybrid
It’s a trade off. More players but also more “bad” players from a CoC violation standpoint
Chimeras can be done really well if the creature is seamless, so a better designed grffin in my eyes would have bird features throughout and not a random lion’s hind legs and tail
A chimera by design imo is supposed to look jarring
frfrfrfr
But that’s not a griffin anymore right? I agree it looks better, but the reality is that it’s no longer the chimera and it’s now just a fantasy creature (very similar to how monster hunter handles it)
Tru, which is why i mentioned they’re betting as a starting point to creature your own creature
In monster hunter if you look closely, rathalos has elf ears. But that’s not really a formal chimera. It’s a bit strange, but the rest of the animal is clearly thoughtfully designed to fit the universe
Most monsters have elf ears
Even nerg has some lil baby ears under his horns
Do NOT mention him to me rn lol I spent two hours failing at that crown again
Ark 2 suggestion: keep crown farming FAR AWAY FROM ME
Sure, we’ll have mutations instead
But yeah MH is a good example of using mythology as a starting point to create interesting creatures
You know I’d take crowns to mutations, but why must I suffer lol
RNGesus demands it
I do hope ark 2 branches out form dinosaurs and prehistory, obvs keep a good roster of Dinos, but I’d also love to see more of their own creatures
I hope they dont stick to being a "dinosaur game"
The Island is
Wyverns arent dinosaurs 🤡
Its more a game based on extinct creatures (mostly)
coelacanths and sarco's are around in some form today
Wolves too
But coelacanths are deep sea creatures yet they are placed in rivers
im talking bout irl
Rex's exist today in fossil form
Tru, you got theri's in ark and chickens now
yes
Still wish Coelacanths were deep sea
my ancestor is a monkey your point?
irl Coelacanths are deep sea creatures, just saying it would be cool if they were deep sea in ark
I am a monkey
ur a scientist
what do you think of my list of unacceptable inaccuracies in ark? 1. pelagornis flight animation should glide instead of flap, 2. mutations should be able to be positive or negative, 3. jellyfish should just float around and not aggro, 4. honey shouldn’t spoil fast, 5. element should not have a periodic table symbol
Trained as one anyway
1.) Pelagornis flight animations, like most fliers, should probably have both powered flight and glides
2.) mutations are cringe, gameplay > realism, and I’m not playing ark to play a breeding sim
3.) jellyfish should act like floating sea mines and be largely immobile OR move in a fairly predictable straight line for the most part to reflect them being “carried by current”
thank you that one's the most important
4.) honey should absolutely spoil fast for balance reasons, although ways to better preserve foods would be really cool…I always hated preserving salt spoiling so fast
5.) it’s element. Creative choices on the gimmick that explains ark science (element) like how it looks etc is all up to WC so I have no complaint with their choice
they could do anything but give it a periodic table symbol
having a periodic table symbol implies it's a nucleus with some specific number of protons
and all the ones that make any kind of sense at all to have are taken up
i'll easily buy 'mystery space substance with mysterious effects', but not 'element 135 specifically has all these mysterious properties'
I don’t care too much about that. Element already nearly or entirely violates conservation of energy, so appearance is the least of my concerns if I cared for element lore
Who looks at element and goes this doesn't have x protons
There is a mod I believe called immersive flight that makes flying more realistic, with both powered flight and gliding
I thought that mod was pretty broken and unusable for some flierz
Shit, sorry.
Got them mixed up.
I meant they're expected to be at PAX West, not Gamescom.
No worries, I thought for a second I missed something! 😆
will they come to pax east?
Pretty sure you’ll know if they’re going somewhere cause they’ll say so?
Is it normal to hide what events like that you go to? I feel like you’d want to be pretty public about that
Ok sorry that I dont follow their socials
I don’t either, but if I wanted to know if they were going to Pax east I would check there 😆
Yeah, true.
But GP has so far been right, and is a bit sus about that fact.
I think they're a Wildcard spy.
idk, just seems like time wasting to speculate like that if it's not intended to be a surprise
They didn't announce themselves coming to the Xbox-Bethesda showcase.
And we thought the same thing now, as we did then.

Which was fine with me lol, it made the surprise feel pleasant and worth it
I saw tons of people who heard nothing from WC swing by to say “watch WC not release anything, typical bad company etc etc” simply because people were creating an expectation without WC actually saying anything
I don’t have to know the minute someone at WC considers releasing a trailer it may happen. Just a ping when it’s out is plenty
I know.
But the point is that they did, in fact show up.
And now there's talk of them coming to PAX West. So i don't see why not.
Ok but the thing you replied to me about was speculation about Pax east
I keep mixing them up....
PAX West is confirmed. PAX East is like next year anyway.
I want to find an aratai village infested with noglins
That sounds like a nightmare
you madman, i love it
Darn
I doubt it would be a village. More like a ruined mess 😅
Noglins aren’t known for taking prisoners
Would it be a nightmare to find abandoned Aratai villages that got ransacked by wild animals? I feel like it would be pretty cool to watch a rex wack some Aratai and give you an opening to raid
I mean, I am rooting for the aratai honestly
I want to see a bit more about them first lol
be carefull the aratai will have plot armour 😂
Because who I usually root for is the rex 😂
I was a bit sad to see Vin had saddled my boi like that
I wanna see the aratai do raids on mega bases and win jaja
disrepected the rex by making it his prehistoric car
Facts. Show them who’s boss 😂
Like if you build a base too big and unstoppable horde just comes and eats you
I’d love that. A doom counter for hogging a cave for too long
Seems like that's the idea
Caves need to be untenable anyway
Not necessarily unbuildable, but incapable of a large duration game
Hmm.
Maybe a system that the cave entrance collapses once every great while, and rapidly kills everything in it, then the rubble clears out?
Kind of like a lesser version of Aberration's surface, or the volcano from Genesis-1.
like the original teaser trailer when the rex kills the last aratai?
Basically, but Vin and his crew would be the ones fucked since they'd be trapped in the now toxic cave.
And they could make each cave (or each cave per region) slightly different.
Some caves collapse and kill everything, until the debree despawns.
Some only the entrance collapses, as the whole cave fills with toxic-gas from plants.
Some can even just do what the volcano did, and lava caves can irrupted.
There's a lot of hazards in real-life caves they could explore.
What about toxic gas that comes up from the bottom every 6 hours and lasts for 10 minutes and does % max hp damage 😎
Drive everyone out of the cave heh
YES!
Basically, just have a system to make caves permanently unlivable.
And for all my SP/Unofficial server bois out there.
Have an option to make specific caves livable.
They hid their involvement at the Xbox showcase... jus sayin...
^^^ Just saw this lol
Apologies for re-hashing it
Ark 2 is DOOMED to fail cause gm's do nothing vs hackers, it isn't even worth buying

I like the idea of poison gas in Caves, could implement it with co2 poisoning, like have too many dinos in the cave and lose all the oxygen
Which is fine lol. I’m not saying everyone who speculated is wrong I’m saying why bother when it’ll come out and we’ll all see it lol
I mean swamp cave worked like this, but I kinda like hazards in the caves or rolling hazards rather than “slap a gas mask on”
Right.
So make them actually deadly.
I mean swamp gas is insanely deadly lol
But I don’t like it quite as much if you just “set and forgot” the hazard gear. It’s why I liked the submerged caves where you had to put on the scuba for a section and take it off rather than just slap on the mask or scuba tank and forget about it
Caves like swamp cave should have negative effects on dinos too though
But even then, it wouldn't stop people if there is a way to counter it. I have had permanent bases in the radiation zone
C4 traps inside cave
How and why
Why do you have a rad base
Easily and because no one likes to raid out there since it's hard af, for PvP that is
Because it was pretty rad lol
There is some merit to this idea though, I think. If nothing else, it could be a reason/way to prohibit tames in caves, which would make them more enjoyable imo
I had a crazy good rathole until vindactur gave it away to everyone
More caves life rag labyrinth, but there is nothing required for game progression. I want to see the world burn
🤮
Hated that cave, no offense to the creators
Too buggy, sometimes just die at random, bosses don't spawn at the end, all around kind of a stinker of a cave imo
Nah, those are dumb af
Yah, make the world suffer
Instant death to something you usually can't see is dumb
Thirs person only means they won't be able to see in tight spaces
Ultimate troll
Make sure to spam pressure plates and impossible (going in blind) puzzles
Not really, if it's done well, like all the games that have forced third and do it right. It's certainly not a saturated market, but they exist
I bet 5,000$USD that ark2 will still succeed
Cantex 1000000 aratai vs 250 tek turrets deathwall
I don't want to see turrets though
insta kills work when death is not penalized
I bet the new defense system will be based on NPCs using weapons.
Based on the info we have so far, Ark 2 will be based on primitive combat, and the only way to have automatic defense is using NPCs.
Also, Atlas is probably used as a benchmark for this system
Atlas has a primitive combat system
So in ark 2 we throe everything from ark 1 down the garbage disposal?
Why's that?
Bc everything is ganna chsnge
All primitive
News ways to tame
News dinos
Hell character customization ganna be different
hopefully we throw the coding from ark 1 down the garbage
Nah ark 1 is a shitpost u dont get rid of it
I want to get rid of it....
So you just want more ark 1 dlc forever
-Blame the people who begged for a primtive-only game.
-New ways of taming is a bonus.
-New creatures is a bonus
-We don't know the character customization.
So....what's the issue?
Idk
i mean, yes, new game, new stuff. who would've guessed.
I just wont enjoy ark 2 as much
Yeah but ark 2 is a completely different genre from the first game
how do you know though?
in the most basic sense it's still an open world survival crafting PVP/PVE game
no
Read the pins 😅
And almost everything else will be mostly if not completely different
the gameplay will probably still be about taming dinos, but yeah most other stuff is gonna fundementally change
I'm so used to building towers, I cant imagine having no turrets at all
Online survival PVP?
The pvp and survival will both be completely different...
The genre is quite literally identical. The gameplay though will probably feel radically different
Give us a solid reason
Why? Let him have his shitpost lol
This chat isn’t the “white knight for ark 2” chat, you can dislike something based on personal opinion. If he was persistent or annoying that’s one thing but he just spoke his opinion and left…which is pretty fine lol
Was just having a lil banter. Talking about white knights 😝
Black knights
I’m trying to avoid a pointless conversation that I’ve seen a hundred times 😂
Wouldn’t have been to long though
Who thinks all the ark1 creatures could somehow make a return to ark2 in the future?
I don’t
Maybe a couple with new models, but can't see them making a whole new world with new mechanics and then dumping same old dinos in
They wouldn’t be the same regardless: look at the rex and even the dodo
Imo the reality is that you can’t chuck ark 1’s entire roster into ark 2 on launch if they’re gonna be as markedly different as we’ve seen. Maybe slow releases over time
they could add new creatures to ark 2 early acces launch like how they released dinos during ark 1's early access period
For sure. Although longer dev times for new creatures like we saw post genesis definitely lead to better results
I’d prefer semi annual content releases for a few well made creatures over the much quicker releases of creatures that wound up not delivering the same quality
i'd also prefer quality over quantity so it's not like how ark 1 early access went down
I was about to say lol
Should be godly
Will ark 2 have RTX
Ark 1 was supposed to get dlss 😂
haha no way
I remember NVIDIA put Ark on their list when the RTX 2000 series was released
pretty sure DLSS just isnt possible on ark 1
Let me look for it
Ark 2 will look great on UE5
Ark 1 will just fry your computer harder than it already does at a certain graphical point lol
no ark 1 is just so badly optimized
the only reason it looks good is the SSAO
legit looks like a pre 2010 game without it
Factually accurate
Also the maps are rushed
I think I can’t send links here
Literally found a spot on gen2 where you can literally just tek suit into the mesh it sucks
But I found it, can I send you by dm?
sure
Every map was rushed, can’t deny that. But that’s partly our fault for badgering them endlessly to release trailers and content
@split dove you joining the steam ark 2 squad for our boss rush before ark 2?
Hell yeah brother
We should make a chat for that lol
👀
Guilty as charged. I would get ark 2 right now with all its bugs 😂
we probably should 😅
You want in? I’m down to add ya
It’s legal LFG because we’re the ark 2 chat gang
Any chance to see anything about ark 2 at Gamescon this month? Does anyone know if Wildcard will be attending?
PAX West, not Gamescon.
That's my bad
sure ye
And yeah, it's already confirmed they have a booth in PAX-West that's for Switch stuff.
Hello
What about gamescon? Are they attending (Wildcard)?
Nothing confirmed.
I accidently said "Gamescon" instead of "PAX"
if u had to place wyvern in the evolutionary tree of life, where would it go
wyverns and dragons being fiction means that their taxonomy would have to be invented. European wyverns and dragons are clearly reptiles, but nobody really ever explored to my knowledge their evolutionary history
It's going to be a thing?
for sure, maybe we can start during the final winter fest
We’ll prolly decide as we get closer. If we do official we definitely need someone to offer lines lol
I would really love it if things can be so customizable we can have region specific weapons and armor because of the types of hide and bones you get from the local tames. I've always wanted to make something out of these spino sails and stuff besides just sacrifices to the boss
You can do all ARK bosses without mutations. So major lines aren't needed.
Bosses become a lot more easier the more player-controlled tames there are, also.
Even alpha gen1?
Yep.
Alpha Gen1 doesn't really make much of a difference, other then the Master-Controller having more health.
The minions all have the same stats throughout each difficulty.
Well there are all the missions too
You can cheese them.
Most brute creatures can be killed with a few people sitting on a cliff with a tek-pistol.
I feel like that defeats the purpose of doing a story rush though lol
Well, it's a story-'rush'
Not a story-'legit'
I was thinking we go from one map to the next in order as a tribe, only keeping boss tames between maps. But we can cheese it too lol
Then you shall suffer
Even on a 8X boosted server. Alpha escort missions are basically impossible without cheesing.
We certainly won’t have time to get capped weapons
Like, you can do the tek-cave and the overseer with a Archy, tek-chetpack, and a shotgun.
Never new that till i did it with a friend.
I’d have to look into what we could manage in a month or two
Especially where likely the bulk of that time we won’t be online at the same time. I know I won’t be able to play 7 days a week lol
Ummmm.
It depends how much people y'all get. But with me and my friends (which was like a 4-5 man group) it took us i believe like 2 months to get off of The Island.
@untold ingot settle for beta or ask for gifts 😂
Cause a lot of the older maps are pure RNG based with how lucky you are to find stuff like alpha squids, or an alpha basilisk, etc..
Hmm, alternatively we could host a slightly boosted unofficial
We could.
But we're still in mercy of RNGesus
I do have a private server rn. I could host each map one at a time
I just might not be able to join y'all, since my FUCKING pc is still having issues.
We aren’t starting until December so you have time. We should aim to finalize the group and plans in November lol
This issue has been an ass for like two months now......
I don't think it's getting any better.....
Well you gotta get it fixed by then because what about a surprise ark 2 release Jan 1 2023?
Then i'll get it on gamepass on my xbox.
And this isn't a simple fix.
I can't fully figure out the issue.
And at this point, i should just buy a new PC, but that's an issue cause....well....
"I can't afford a new gaming pc right now"
Sell the old for the new 🧠

Ah yes, sell the shitty PC that's having issues for more money then it's worth to get a new PC
What sort of issues is it having?
The disk-drives keep capping at 100% and slowing down the processing power of my PC.
Oh, right, I remember now
But i don't think it's the disks fault anymore. Since it's still doing it on a brand new SSD
Trying to figure out if there's a way to tell if a core in a CPU is damaged.
It's windows 10 right?
Yep
Hmm, I have a program that checks the cpu, but I forget what it is called, and can't find it yet jaja
Wonder if i fried something on accident, due to me running the dev-kit and ARK for hours upon hours.
Mind telling it to me when you have?
It's been confirmed that in ark 3 you'll play as bob in a story campaign where the alpha tribe has kidnapped your beloved dodo friend

Is ark 2 confirmed to come to ps4/ps5 at some point? Im guessing its gonna be on xbox first for like a year again 😕
Not confirmed, but speculated.
Since it's coming out in Early-Access. Sony only allows games to stay on their platform for 2 years.
Okay thanks
ive said this before but i think that circular structures could be cool because then we can make some even better looking things
Is it confirmed to have cryopods atleas
Hopefully it doesn't
I hope it does... For server and memory sake
Also the freedom to steal DLC tames without paying
I’m gonna go ahead and say that stealing DLC tames doesn’t matter as long as you can’t bring them to free maps. The illusion that players need that is strong but there’s ways around it
And ofc WC has no obligation to offer free DLC creatures in the first place through any method, stealing/trading or otherwise, especially on release (which is how ark 1 works for all DLC creatures). It’s a deeply insufficient argument for cryopods to retain their irritating pokeball mechanic
We need to start a movement to destroy the alpha tribes, someone create a community mega tribe so we can start preparing for war 🌚
Touché, fair point
@minor prism I’ve been waiting for you to say something lol
😂 I was guna an thought yano wa let me wined my neck in for a change 😂😂😂
There is a reason I hate Ab, you can't bring your favorite tame because "restrictions"
It’s the primary reason I love Ab so much
The experience is tailored to what’s available there. Best part of a survival game is making use of what’s around you and adapting, and I love that Ab is built as a standalone experience
I thought they canned the whole "survival" thing for ARK 2 in favor of story sandbox?
The game is literally a multiplayer PvP survival sandbox on the steam listing isn’t it?
My hunch is it’ll be very similar to genesis missions
I'd like that, as long as there's a lot more of a challange
Tags can also be user generated I believe
They can be user generated, but these were in the description written by WC
I’m down for missions to do many things for us: give us loot, unique tames maybe, story, challenges, unlocks…there’s tons of potential we could explore
Yeah, maybe exclusive materials for the custom crafting we will have. I'd like them to utilise the weather and seasons as well, have resources that are unobtainable during certain periods. Would add a lot more depth to how we farm and what not
Maybe a base spot that is op in the summer say has a massive disadvantage in the winter
I think having certain biomes like that is ok, but having it everywhere would be painfully annoying
Waiting around for a season is ok if it’s in some areas or regions but across the map it’s just boring to wait
@blissful perch yano wa bro I do have something to say about ark 2, make the ob space timer longer for ark 2 fed up of losing shit after 24hr 😂👊
Yeah it would need some heavy tweeking to be viable.
I need more than 24hr just to remember I put it in ther man 😂 fat rip for me
Losing a upload is pain
But I do like the exclusive materials thing. Stuff unique to missions would be cool, and stuff unique to specific hazardous areas would also be super cool
It actually is bro ngl an I do it way to often to lmao
Yeah, more risk/reward would be nice. Problem with ark is after a few thousand hours it's hard to not speed run everything
Nothing that can be done about that tbh. Older games where people dump tons of hours in are gonna have the issue where you can kinda “optimize” and “speed” through stuff
Although ez sad speed runs like notes and stuff could obviously be removed lol
Yeah, the og grind gave you a reason to log on everyday, actual utilise all the games mechanics
But knowledge is a gift and a curse
What's your thoughts on annual wipes for pvp servers?
In terms of bloated dino stats, op blueprints etc?
I’m strongly for it, but agree with the issues people bring up about wipes
These can be addressed imo without wipes and should be addressed before considering wipes
imo the blueprints should be removed and replaced with the component based crafting system
Blueprints are fine, but the “capped” BP stuff imo isn’t the greatest
But you need RNG loot in an RPG experience, which ark 2 will likely be to some degree. It forces people to log hours lol
I'm glad I'm not a dev, figuring this stuff out must be such a headache
Balancing a sandbox pvp/pve
It’s hard work, and why I like to brainstorm solutions here
It's not a bad thing to do, they defo watch this chat for sure, seeing what people are hoping for
I usually try to steer this chat towards something worth reading for the devs
(Not always lol, I’m human)
Just excited for November, hopefully we see some gameplay
One thing I’ve never really felt like I got a satisfying solution thought up for was BPs
Like…how do we keep that sense of loot and loot progression without keeping the same ark 1 system? Obviously requiring more rare materials instead of 100k hide is a start, but I feel like it can be improved further
They could intergrate it into the new crafting system
Right but how do you log the hours?
Yeah, was gonna say maybe a talent tree system of a sort, then maybe special tasks to enhance
that's the hardest part to fix
Yep, and that’s where I’m a bit stumped
Go nuts with it like path of exile, give it some diversity
there is gonna be a skill tree with active perks and bonuses, soooo
Nice
I guess you could have crafting itself offer crafting skill, so you have to make tons of stuff to get those improvements. But I’m not sure that’s enough
Making 200 flak helmets looking for the optimal one I guess is better than staring at falling beacons tho
Mutations 😊
Breed timer on males
Mating timers are cancer
Oh hell naw
Doesn’t solve the problem of mutations but I do think this is a good idea in general to limit silly large breeding setups
Be a lot healthier for servers
The issue is the filthy stats tho lol, and that just needs to go full stop. No amount of time should lead to that
They could just nerf how effective it is so it's more fair for those who haven't bred stuff
I mean 20/20 mutations would also work as a quick fix, so yes
Should always be a incentive for breeding though, encourages newer players to progress
Imprints and stat consolidating are already very strong incentives
and actually have a limit set in place so it can't go above the 20/20 🤦♂️
20/20 is so little lol
Better than being one shot by something moving twice as fast as you
True, but you get my point
Capped flak is dumb, capped tames are dumb. That’s about that
Why is capped flak dumb?
20/20 is already a massive boost to an ark 1 tame compared to fresh
Capped flak is dumb because the dura, protection, and overall general value is so high it invalidates all other armor and almost all PvE in the game?
We have a fundamental disagreement about the role of PvE in the PvP space tho. I want PvP to be pvpve and it seems you do not lol
Tek is still better. And it's a pvp game with a PvE side mode
Could be true of ark 1, but that’s not my vision for ark 2, nor my hope
I'm certain that's how the devs envisioned it, before things got out of hand
I can’t speak for WC, but it’s clear they spent a ton of time developing a solid PvE experience
I can’t say to what end that was done
Nah, I said mutations as a joke cause ik you don't like em 😂. I'm just stating facts for everything else lol
They have, but it is still a bit of a mix. PvP has gone a little bonkers since launch though lol
Pvp is fun but boring at this point
I mean the community on pc certainly is fairly split in how they play. Official PvP seems to be doing much better than official PvE but TONS of folks play unofficial PvE and SP for mods or other reasons
I kinda hope they don't have PvP specific and PvE specific servers in Ark 2. Could be interesting
Just all pvp
Bro this discord would be funny as shit to read through on launch 😂
Absolutely. Official PvE is basically official PvP at this point though, except you get the game to do your own dirty work
You mean you’d prefer PvP and PvE zones on the same maps? That’s a tough sell for a game with building like ark
Would get toxic fast
It works for MMOs reasonably well but for games with building I’m giving it an oof/10 rating
Too many people who play to grief only lol
Couldn't even do that when everyone lives in a PvE bubble lol
If I could have exactly what I wanted (impossible though), it would be PvP allowed everywhere and no PvE servers, forcing PvE players into PvP environments. There would be friendlt people around that you can meet, but every encounter would be a little scary, because people can still kill you. In other words, an overhanging PvP threat but in a mostly PvE game
Sea of thieves with dinosaurs would be the optimal form of that model to me

Arks biggest problem if you ask me. It has completely shaped the PvP meta
NO building, very little world permanence
Since ark and ark 2 won’t be that however, such a dream isn’t gonna become reality
Yeah! Or the late World's Adrift, if you've heard of that
Sea of thieves is so boring after a day or two every update
You play sea of thieves to have adventures and mess around. You don’t play it like you play ark
I know
Too easy with nets and tek bows lol, I thought 500 melee and a club and Bolas was bad enough
When the adventures are almost all unremarkable and you've already done everything to mess around when the game first launched there's not very many reason to play the game
Ark could learn from SoT though, there’s too much world permanence and progression such that it forces people to overcommit hard to their easily lost possessions and bases
I play rarely with friends and we just have fun doing stuff. It’s not about anything specific usually, we just like hanging out playing SoT
Eh, that stuff gets boring for me after a few hours.
Makes sense if you enjoy ark official PvP. The overlap in appeal is minimal
Only time I'm not bored is when I see a ship somewhere and we try and kill them
Sea of Thieves wasn't too appealing to me either, I think it's the gameplay loop and tremendous lack of dinosaurs that got it uninstalled ;)
I feel like you’d enjoy competitive fps games or league lol, but I’m gonna suspect I’ll be told you hate both
Have you tried Last Oasis?
And some adventure stuff here and there
No
?
Sorry lol
Trying to work out the appeal gap between ark 2 and SoT
I do think if ark 2 went that route it would work super well. But there would need to be a separate more permanent mode available
The route of no building and just doing missions as teams?
Gentle reminder to veer back when you go off track is all

You’d need a total retool of features ofc. Less focus on gathering mats, taming is short but lost on tribe log off, no building, and many other changes to the fundamentals. But then you could have the full map be open like SoT for session based gameplay
That'd take out the Survival Evolved part though. Luckily, Ark 2 is only Ark!
Tribes would be formed like SoT as parties of let’s say 1-5 people and would disband once they all log off
It could still be a survival game requiring food and water 🤷♂️. But the rpg aspects would need to be scaled back or removed for sure
Yeah I don't see how that'd work on ark 2
It would work, but it’s not what WC has stated they’re going for 🤷♂️
Is there sliding on ark 2
Read pins, I think that may be mentioned
If so I can think of a lot of base ideas for pvp
Ark is a survival game about gathering rescources and battling fearsome creatures though, if you don't have that in the sequel I think a large amount of players won't be very interested
^
You can easily have both without needing massive stockpiles and endless grinding like ark 1
However people who play tons of ark like grinding and stockpiling their things like crazy. That’s gonna create tension for sure
Low doors you have to slide into with wooden turrets on the inside (gotta stay primitive of course)
That’s one of the ideas
I'm the grinding guy lol, so Sea of Thieves small adventures weren't that interesting. Funnily enough though, I really only enjoy grinding in Ark, not in other games
Sea of thieves is fun but it’s gets boreing after the same thing has been done 1000s of times
I tolerated grinding more when I was unemployed. Now that I’m not I only have enough to make ark feel like I’m doing something and not cheating lol. Takes way too long otherwise
I have the same problem lol. Been on holidays now so I've had time to play lots of Fjördur, but the game wasn't that appealing when I didn't have time. Issue is, I've played Ark for so long that it is difficult to pick up anything else. Really hope I'll enjoy the sequel enough to play it over Ark 1 lol
Ark is the only game in its genre I remotely consider. Thankfully I’ve picked up many games before and after ark 1 so I’ll be safe even if ark 2 eats it lol
I might just have to quit gaming all together if Ark 2 flops
Cmon WildCard, you've got my PC's life on the line. Do a bad job and it goes out the window
what do you mean you don't have the time to grind resources 8 hours every day? outrageous
I'm kidding, of course. There are a few titles that were still fun to play, especially games like Breath of the Wild (and recently Ori), but it's difficult to find much else
Stryder?
exagerration
how dare you have a life? impossible
I’ve actually slowly come to dislike open world games like BoW. Never finished BoW or Pokémon arceus because I just got bored running around
I do hope Ark 2 has a glow up like Ark 1 has had. Constant updates until the game becomes something completely different, yet still fun to play
open world only works when your world has enough stuff
the new open world sonic game looks like a barren wasteland
I had to take breaks, got bored of it too. But it always felt great to return after a few weeks or so
Too many open game world games now just make a big open world of nothing remarkable, just space to fill up an area until something important.
true.
here, have this empty plane with an enemy or collectible every 15 miles you walk
Or the difficulty is all the same because “you can go anywhere”
Eso lol
I’m seriously hoping ark 2 does NOT do that
Make some areas extra difficult pls lol
What I dislike about the open world genre is that it’s not clear when you should advance or where
Skyrim?
When I want to advance in a game I want it laid out to me: you should have cleared XYZ before facing enemy A
Monster hunter does this: you can’t fight nerg without beating the story missions prior: the game has told me I’m “ready” with what I’ve cleared
it works for games where the objective is to explore like Subnautica, but even there it gets confusing
Subnautica is pretty obvious what you have to do
but you can try and fight anjanath in an expedition after hunting kulu ya ku
Subnautica tries to direct you via the old PDA files. EA subnautica tho? Totally directionless lol
ew reading
Right, and you’ll get your ass beat. And the game doesn’t tell you you’re ready yet so that makes sense
You mean with the giant explosion and massive gun on an island?
That’s “new” tho: original Ea had none of that
I've seen a rajang in one of my friends investigations when he was on blackveil vaal in the story
I was like wtf
It wasn't the target but was just roaming
Yep, that’s imo reasonable as long as it isn’t the target
Ark’s leveling up system used to (before notes) serve as a sort of guideline for what level you should do stuff. Fur being in the 40-50 range meant the cold wasn’t for newbies, rex saddles being level 70s or so meant you should aim for taming something smaller first…but then notes shat on that giving you 100 levels on the beach lol
Everything got faster and easier, rates increased across the board and better tools for farming, maewings, etc.
That’s a good thing for everything but exp
they should add an ice part in a map on ark 2 and have seals bouncing up and down on the ice and penguins swimming around and maybe some walruses that you can get tusks from as a replacement for chitin and keratin
Why would they have modern walrus and seals in ark? I like the snow map idea
Also…tusks = keratin lol
Eh, I mean. Even if there wasn't notes it'd just keep new players down because people who know other people can just go to an xp party or just be given a few xp gigas to start
I’d remove granting exp on baby kill too but that’s just me I guess lol
Obviously yes there are ways to fast track. But note runs are themselves not available to new players because they don’t know how to do them or don’t know they exist
Then again, people who fast track tend to also not need the level system as a guide on what to do
Most new players will just stumble across them yeah. Just because you can be a sweaty bastard it doesn't mean a system is flawed completely.
Hard agree, although ark lends itself to sweats so they need to be considered even if not fully tailored to
I think if they were to add a walrus it would be a moschops skin & if moschops would even be in ark 2
Walrus and moschcops seem pretty different lol
double xp on baby kill
That’s because they are lmao
I’d love to see Gorgonopsia of some sort in ark 2. Seriously underrepresented and super cool
More giant bugs!
waluigi will be the key to understanding the story of ark 2
I think Xp boosting craftables is the way to go. I've caused so prim xbox tribemates to crash with xp parties during events
Walk me through this. Would a drink that gives you 1000exp be an example?
Giant ant/termite (or an alien hive animal) biomes would be the coolest shit
I don't, I think that it would just make it harder for new players as the bigger and older tribes would have access to the mats and possibly lock them down too, as we've seen in the past with locking down notes
I'm mean you can lock down anything. Notes have a flaw in that for new players who dont know the value of xp can lose out on the boost by hunting for lore. When I first started, I probably hit 10 notes and did nothing with them.
Like a time locked drink similar to mindwipe that boost experience for certain tasks
I could see this, but tbh I’d say we don’t really need that system much at all
I think the exp gain for notes was to incentivize people to read the lore in ark 1. In ark 2 if that’s rolled into missions where the incentive structure is knowledge points or other progress the exp gain isn’t required anymore
I can see that, though I'm unsure of they'll go away from character points completely. Alot of skill tree games uses them on conjunction with one another
I feel like craftable xp potions are a bad idea. A big tribe would be able to craft a lot and easily reach level cap, while solos would still struggle. It would just generate an even more unleveled playing field lol
It would reduce leveling even more to staying in base crafting
I agree but as a debug item it'd be kinda cool
I mean, we'll have mods, even on console. No reason someone couldn't make an xp potion there I guess
There are xp potion mods, and if people want to use those, great. It's a really bad idea for official though
Theres a give xp command
how do you even install mods on console?
For games like Fallout 4/Skyrim. There's a whole section that have ported downloadable mods to console.
Though, it seems like the software they're using is a bit different.
I believe how it'll work, is that the menu/installer for PC mods are gonna be connected to the console retail versions.
They may not, but they certainly don’t need “exp crutches” like ark 1. They appear to have been added as an incentive but they don’t need to serve that role in ark 2 since it looks like lore/missions are now more integrated into normal progression
I’d prefer if leveling up let you improve skills, perhaps some skills offer stats…but brute stat leveling imo is super barebones
I can't disagree with that, I can't think of any other game that does it that way
I am keeping my fingers crossed for a pillar spam fix on pve, because I might not even return to pvp when it releases
There’s a few others that do it as a low cost/effort incentive
It’s a common EA game thing where the systems are less fleshed out so numbers are used rather than mechanics to get people to do things
Me neither, not sure if my stance on mutations made that obvious lol
Lol
Considering we already hold mass xp parties during events by slaughtering hundreds of giga babies. I'm not so sure a time limited xp item would be game breaking.
How do you guys feel about the chibi levels?
I mean, you can't block every method of gaining xp in a base, but the ability to make xp potions really wouldn't be good
I mean your reasoning doesnt account for the time restraint aspect. With ark 1s leveling system, we can easily boost someone to lvl 100 in a day, without xp boosts, so I dont really see how it would be super exploitive. Especially if it's only a small boost.
Well, for starters it doesn't add anything new or interesting into the game. The only value to it is a slight xp boost from drinking a potion, which makes no sense. In order for it to be workable it would need a huge timer so that it isn't exploitative. And at that point you may as well kill rexes in your base
2x is considered a small boost. It would eliminate tracking down notes, which have always felt out of place... the sudden rush to kill things when you accidently step on one. Plus it would benefit players who have been dedicated to the game and want to get a boost over there playthrough.
I think ark2 is gearing towards more of a necessity to be out in the world to level and get engrams, I would be surprised if they do much that would get rid of that aspect of play
I think it will work like Ark 1 in 2015. It was really hard to level up. Eventually in Ark 2 will be easier to gain levels.
Perhaps, I doubt that exp potions will be the way they do that
a mechanically interesting engram system would be cool
knowledge points gained via " accomplishing key objectives and overcoming unique challenges" is probably gonna be that cool system
as for exp i hope its nothing like ark1
this potion would be fine as long as both knowledge points and player stats arent tied to experience or at least experience doesnt change too much of what your character can do in most gameplay
but the latter would imply experience points are useless unless theres other game mechanics that are way different to support its relevancy
Ark 2's engrams seem to work more like a skill tree from what i've read
I'm not sure how much game knowledge from ark 1 will transfer to 2, honestly. From what little bits of information we have gotten so far it seems like it'd be an entirely different game just... all around. Melee focus, "soulslike combat", locked to third person, etc
They don't really work like a skill tree, they are a craftables menu
i am like 80% confident the soulslike combat claim is just to exaggerate how skill based melee combat will be
Well that is one part I am looking forward to
I mean i'm not expecting to go in to full in-depth combo trees or anything, especially because there's going to be rideable creatures
It is.
Conan has souls-like combat.
thats a point for its reduced relevancy
You can hope for it
But the focus does seem to be different from the first game
i dont really know what conan is like
Youtube
it had its moment in the sun for like 2 days or something
(Personally i think the more melee/primitive focus is going to be the wrong play)
then back to battle royale!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(My favorite aspect of ark is advancing from tree punching to sci fi tech)
We can only hope that this is still true via DLC's
it probably will honestly
i think people are going to eventually miss being able to tek across the map
so by 2028 we will see tek again
at the latest
I like how i can post a screenshot of preparing to battle titans on extinction or whatever weird monster i've tamed in genesis and people in my orbit who don't play ark go "o: That's ark?"
it works wonderfully when progression to end game isnt a life or death goal
I won't miss tek at all lol
You will edventually
I intentionally don’t use tek as much as possible because I find it dull so there’s that lol
I think your reasoning is totally legit IF they keep easy mass leveling mechanics like slaughtering giga babies. But if they cut those methods out I think it’s much more plausible to have “no” quick farms of that nature. Although obviously there’s going to be a “best” exp farming method that folks will use, ideally no single task grants a buttload of levels and skips the system. Knowledge points may also be a method to gate progression a bit more strictly and require gameplay rather than the pure exp to progress
This clashes with your most recent comment
Now that's just an obvious way to spark a brawl with me
Yes, flame arrows to tame dodo
it does?
well it's true...I only used tek on genesis 2 when i was forced to use it...and a couple times prior because I had no clue what it did. Otherwise I just found it boring and balance breaking so I put it away
The giga kill comment
right but what about the giga kill comment clashes with something else?
I'm saying that ideally it doesn't exist
but that regardless of it being removed or not there will be a "best" exp farming method
Ok but should there be a way to mass level
imo? No
that doesn't mean there won't be a "best way to level" that people will use to go 'faster than intended'. That's pretty much unavoidable in an RPG
Tek pod ftw
Bro if in level 150 and I want to get to 190 where the only thing I really unlock is the hammer, I should be able to mass level
I couldnt even imagine that last grind to 190
Tek bed frw
Shifter out here saying we should be able to kill babies to power level
I'm not saying I'm against xp farming baby creatures, but an easy way to fix it is to eliminate xp from killing friendly tames. ( unclaiming them takes a while and you risk them dying)
*shouldn't
Imma smack u
but you could always gate mass leveling options behind level thresholds
Good idea
offering experience gaining methods at applicable level points to ensure the grind is more consistent is on brand for an RPG and is reasonable
but killing a baby giga is wildly cheesy lol
We do not care
Quick leveling shouldn't be a thing
Yes it should
It sucks the fun put of any sort of progression
If I'm level 142, I have every single tek engram, I have all the tames I could ever want or need. I have all bosses done on alpha, and I'm running 6 different servers with a tribe, all that's left for me to do is power level to get the hammer, and your saying I shouldnt?
Sadly i dont think that will ever happen on something like official where you compete against people who are high level
Making xp more tedious won't make the hammer any more rewarding
If you start a new character, yes.
Cause that'd defeats the purpose of making a new character and starting over.
Though extended early game could be amazing for things like arkpoc
Coming from an official player
If your starting a new character, is it really that hard to just not use those leveling methods?
Yes.
You lack self control

I mean you'll use whatever method is "best" if you play pvp remotely seriously
