Looking at the list of characters, I feel like the animated series is going to be more of a spinoff rather than an a direct adaptation of the explorer notes. Some differences I found:
Instead of being a weakling who also flinched at the mere thought of hurting another person, Helena is now competent enough to kill random people using an ARROW. Like, not even using the bow, just using the arrow.
Instead of becoming evil like what we see in the game, Rockwell now appears to just be evil from the beginning, and now also appears to be fascinated with the occult for some reason?
Close family members of the survivors also appear.
Santiago now also seems to appear on the island along with everyone else, and like I said earlier, appears to have his name, time period, and appearance changed.
A ridiculously long list of side characters who, along with the family members of the survivors, are never actually mentioned in the game.
That being said, let's assume that there are three different ARK universes where the story and/or characters and/or universe itself are slightly different:
ARK Universe: The ARK story that we all know and love. Classic main characters whose motivations are perfectly explained and their respective character development throughout the story feels built-up and organic. There's also a few side characters who actually feel just as built-up as the main cast. The reason I bring all that up is in case the animated series...doesn't form it's story like that. I dunno, I just feel like it would be difficult for them to make every character feel like an actual character if there's so many other characters. Then again...we may just have to wait and see.
ARK Mobile Universe: The nature of element and the obelisks is slightly different, as element now has several more forms and uses, while the obelisks now give people free god weapons when they get artifacts. There's also cloning chambers, a distant relative of Rockwell's, and probably a bunch of other things I'm missing.
ARK Animated Universe: Features a whole host of extra side characters, some of whom are close relatives of the survivors. Some of the survivors also feel a bit different from their main game counterparts in terms of personality. Paras are also now a lot more loyal than they are in game, apparently.

I want to know are they going to show the broodmother and the overseer fights, I know we will see the Megapithecus because Helena fought against it with Mei-Yin, and I'm sure we will most likely see the Dragon (I hope) since it was in the launch trailer for the game. But the brood and overseer were only spoken about (Dragon as well).

@velvet shadow Retcons and rewrites are not uncommon in franchises that then expand further. Guild Wars 2 has changed its canon repeatedly and plays fast and loose with its lore.
It would not be surprising to make adjustments and readjust for the animated series as well.
prime example, Extinction, from what I've seen, was originally intended to be the end of the storyline, but then they adjusted course and began Genesis afterwards.
As creators and the producers of the IP, Wildcard is more than within their rights to change canon as they see fit for their interpretation of the storyline.

Previous points about retcons aside, gotta keep in mind the animated series, while aimed at providing an animated view into the storyline that wer'e familiar with, also has to be widely appealing.
AKA they're catering to more than just a hyperspecific audience.
There are several bits and bobs I could bring up in this regard from a PR perspective, but one from an artistic one is that Rockwell's animated design also resembles David Tanner to a degree, as he's the voice actor and thus would be a familiar face for audiences, if only vaguely. This is an animation trick used to make things more relatable.
With time, its not unusual to redo, or recreate various features to better fit a narrative moving forward. By now, with GenOne especially and GenTwo, we're more than familiar with Rockwell as a villain. Even if you were a player that never read the lore, Genesis Part One especially somewhat forced you into at least getting a brief rundown.
The ARK Animated series, imo just seeks to bring a sort of uniformity to the entire thing.

We see the growth organically in the game, especially if you read all the notes at once, because it was a much more 'over time' object introduced after the game even began.
I'm not sure what 'theorizing' has to do with what more than likely happened lol. Writers and artists took a different direction. It happens.
It's called ARK, the Animated Series and has been introduced as the animated equivalent to the ARK story. Not a spinoff.

And just because it's meant to entertain a wider audience doesn't mean that it follows the same canon. The FNaF books? Different canon, but can be used to fill in holes in the main franchise. Same with the planned movie. But we won't know until it releases, and, due to lore contradictions, us theorists are treating it as a separate canon

It's going to ovewrite some of the older stuff, sure. But it's probably gonna be leave enough room for the viewers to decide whether it's canon or not to 'them'

So it's decidedly NOT 100% canon. While it uses the main frame of ARK and the story we know to, ya know, make an interesting story, it's gonna rewrite some old lore. So no, it's not canon, but the ARK canon is going to be a heavy presence in the story- and I'm banking on the two referencing eachother every now and again for funzies, especially in ARK II and maybe a bit of Gen II.

ARK II is following directly after ARK I. If the Animated Series isn't canon in ARK I, by definition, it can't be canon in ARK II. But again, I bet some events will leak over into ARK II to boost sales, make fun references, etc. Though I doubt the references would have any significant lore importance, like how Helena mentions Ice Wyverns in her Managarmr note on EX. A fun nod that definitely bends the canonicity out of wack, but also barely matters because it's literally a Dossier.

It's not the first time this has happened.
Like for example. Left 4 Dead 2 has the Sacrifice DLC and it re-adds the Left 4 Dead 1 campaign. Although it's not Canon.
The only thing canon from it was the Sacrifice Chapter.
And i still feel like it's odd that they have Helena on the wall painting petting the Parasaur. Something that was never mentioned in the notes.

Yeah, I do understand what you're saying, but surprisingly I've come to find that Wildcard is actually somewhat fragile with their lore- as in, I doubt they'd make the AS canon to AII and not canon to AI. They seem pretty diligent with stuff like that. Another big thing that people don't understand about WC is that, yes, they release DLC to make money, but also to expand the story. People who don't get that are the same people who think ARK is a game about Dinosaurs.

I think what this means is that events that happen in the ARK Animated universe do not affect the events of the ARK game universe. There are a bunch of characters we've already heard of that were never in the explorer notes. ARK Animated will be following the story but will never change the way the ARK game universe flows. TLDR: Things that happened in the games will happen in the series, but things that happened in the series never happened in the games or will never had any affect on things that happen in the games.

And yes, Part I was essentially a bridge between the two DLC. And as a "Hahaha! Plot twist! We have two DLCs to finish ARK I!"

A Simulation to prepare Survivors for whatever planet the Colony Ship is landing at in ARK II. They didn't really have a way to know what the planet was gonna be like, so they simulated a bunch of uber-harsh alien environments/creatures to make sure the Survivors were prepared for almost anything. And before it was launched, and the world went bad, it was actually used for educational purposes aswell. But then Edmund came along and used it to his advantage, corrupting the Survivors within for his own army, deleting unwanted Survivors and tormenting us throughout our adventure with HLN-A. Beyond the Genesis Simulation, he is doing a similar thing to the Genesis-Ship, spreading, creating, corrupting, etc all for his own gain.
In the end, his goal is to corrupt the cosmos. To spread his influence to the far reaches of the galaxy.
