when you have temps reaching 96F (when doing some cloud simulation touching for someone else, was expected) with no possible way of replacing in the near future nor repair, the GPU lifespan begs to differ.
The 980 does not perform well if fully utilized when field tested. Yes, modern day cards are meant to be fully utilized and do well. ASA currently makes the 980 run between 70-90F,

when was the last time you repasted that thing? because if it is never, it is in critical need of it and probably throttling. GPUs are meant to run at 100% load and will underclock themselves to try and force 100% load for efficiency. if it is overheating without reliably reaching that, it is unperforming severely

as far as making it more efficient, undervolt it and lower the power target, dont try to cripple games and hope it has less to do

Nah licensing agreement for this ban appeal. There’s full blown hacks in this game and I get banned for…? Obviously you can’t tell me but I have been a long standing player in the community even after Snail Games has trashed it, kind of upsetting but not your fault or problem. I will go through the appeal process however that works and we shall see if I was at fault or if I misunderstood something not quite sure. Before: ~27% usage (In current standing spot), 15fps constant, ~80C
Now: 100% usage (In before standing spot), 7fps constant, 60C

nvidia's overclocking software is nonexistent, so you dont have access to per-game tuning profiles or anything, but it is still basically impossible to tune a GPU into crashing on desktop/on boot

How would I adjust the power settings within MSI Afterburner so that ASA performs at 15fps at a near constant with the lowest settings possible while still utilizing 100% of the card, alongside having minimal to no input latency at around 85c but not exceeding 90c
I have been fine with the under-utilized performance, and gameplay has exceeded expectations doing so.

If I can get lower temps while still maintaining the before altered performance, the better

i am not sure what exact controls afterburner will expose on a card of that generation, but it should give you voltage and clockspeed curves, and probably a wattage power target? if they are sliders or graphs may vary

lowering the power target and/or voltage basically tells it to use less power and figure out the fine details. it may run slower, crash, or run at the same speed with less power use, depending on the chip quality and how it's software feels about the change

lowering clockspeed will lower performance linearly and power use usually more than linearly, but less efficient than lowering voltage in terms of performance per watt

usually taking 0.05-0.1v off a GPU is within expectation without it crashing or losing significant performance

So with the phoenix, There is something heavily impacting my card. One person pointed out feather rendering, but I don't believe that's the case because the same person had similar issues with Xyphias's Hatz creature when they buried their character's face in the wings, and I have 0 issues there where they have plenty.
I will note that my issues only occur while approaching the phoenix (impact starts between 5-10ft away, in camera view, no problems while walking around and in camera view past that distance), so it's a close proximity issue.
Riding it is relatively ok, but performance is still hindered to the point of minor input latency.
Another note: Very rarely (~1% chance) will the issue not occur, and able to walk around it in close proximity without a decrease in performance.

Would a possible solution to the performance impact be to pay a modder for a custom cosmetic that reduces the performance impact? At the very least, I'd be able to troubleshoot whether it's the VFX that's the problem, or if it's entirely the creature that's the problem (because near proximity based issues).
Another note: A custom cosmetic that makes the Argentavis look like a Phoenix also creates similar issues after investigation. However, putting both custom cosmetic applied Argentavis and Phoenix side by side does not further decrease performance, which I find odd.

on a unofficial nitrado cluster i have transfered a character from ragnarok to extinction, my character loads in to where my bed is but the structures don't load in but the dinos that are there do. may or may not have happened around the same time as a auto restart.
i look in the download character screen and my character does not appear.

i make a new character and use the template from my previous character and give my character the same name spawn back on extinction and a little while later the inventory of my previous character comes back on this new character.

Early on I used tanky stego with a bunch of veggie cakes in it as distraction whilst I attacked it with a deinonychus from behind. You still get hit a bit but not with the acid spray, so having a spring drakeling on your shoulder lets you heal if you back off for a little. Thyla would work great too. If you have a good carcha or giga, they can kill her but it needs to be imprinted and high melee, you can't run away once you start because she'll web your dino.

Constant flickering and artifacting on every map. Nothing I do seems to fix it. I've tried every graphics configuration recommendations I can find, no luck. I tried turning off DLSS, no luck. Updated drivers, no luck. Uninstalled and reinstalled, verified files, pretty much every standard fix has been attempted and nothing has fixed it. Is this happening to anyone else? Is this just a bug that WC will have to patch in order to make it stop? It makes the game unplayable for me. Hurts my eyes and I'm worried it will cause crashes. Any help, ideas, suggestions, or advice could be very helpful. I will also accept sympathy, empathy, and pity. Every little bit helps.

I tried turning golbal immuniation off, but there was no option to do so. I can't put it lower than "low". I turned it up to epic, which worked for a few minutes, but then it just started right back up again. I'm starting to think this is something wrong with the engine itself. I have tried every variation I can think of to tweak the graphics settings and I cannot get the flickering to stop. I'm getting to the point where I have to decide if I want to just try to live with it, or give up on the game until Wildcard can fix this.

I've also seen in several places that this can be caused by DLSS. If that's the case, which it may be, I'm just gonna have to live with it. Not turning DLSS off unless I absolutely have to.

Update just for anyone still interested : DLSS being turned off caused performance issues, turning it on brought the flickering back. I tried turning on DLAA. It was set on "performance" before, probably by default. DLAA fixed everything. No more flickering and everything actually looks and flows better. Never occurred to me to try that. I am running an Nvidia 40 series, so I'm not sure how i missed that one. Thank you to Average Rock Drake Enjoyer for trying to help. I appreciate all of it. 🙂

I currently have them set to 10 and it seems to work fine. You also might need to restart the server after running a dino wipe for NPCs to respawn.

In regards to loot crates I've only seen cave drops on LC. The city drops also look like cave drops and mainly seem to spawn on top of the city buildings.

Disable every non-essential mod as well as any creature mod that ya have active but haven't tamed yet and do a dino wipe afterwards, try to keep the mod count to minimum if none.

Only take what is necessary for the fight, leave everything back in your base but if ya are going to hop into another map directly afterwards, put your essentials in the Inventory tab of a Charge Node as they all act as Obelisk Terminals in ASA

Make a manual backup after deploying your army but before placing the tribute items in the Terminal so that if ya have to redo the fight, ya can go straight into it.

When the boss health is less than 5%, immediately head to a safe corner of the arena and start chucking everything in your character inventory, hotbar, armor and cosmetics (if ya forgot to store them in your base) into your mount or Shoulder Pet.

Once it's defeated, rush to the loot crate, take a screenshot of the contents, grab everything then chuck it into the same mount or shoulder pet and don't forget to transfer the Chibis + new skins from your player inventory as well then if possible, head back to where ya first spawned in the arena to which ya will need to do all this in just over minute so don't panic and remain calm.

Ensure that ya completely naked, just like when ya first ya spawned in the map, throw your Shoulder Pet if ya have one, dismount from your mount, wait for the Ascension to complete then once that is done, regardless if ya decide to spawn back in or go to another map, the moment your character is downloaded, spawn the Pause button, hit "Save Game" and create a backup, don't even let the spawn animation finish playing because if the game crushes here, ya will lose your character and be forced to do the fight again by restoring the backup ya made in the beginning.

Even after all of this, the game can still crash on ya or do something funky like kill your character during the Ascension cutscene then delete it afterwards so always be prepared for that.

Do this for every Ascension boss except the King Titan which ya can just take the loot from the crate then simply leave the area before the timer runs out (respawn your character or fast travel to another bed to update your implant) and ya should be able to complete Ascension bosses with minimum issues and hopefully none.

I think someone mentioned that ya need to do the mini game on a Level 115-130

easy fix is that if it's your Single Player world or your own dedicated server

Hey, any devs around to check out my Lost Colony server? I decided to build our Community Center on a moving train; laid a lot of track across the map. But there's a specific spot near the city that does not like it. The train glitches, seemingly visually, and leaves folks behind. As far as the server is concerned the train keeps going, client side looks like the train is stopped and broken.

Anyone know of a command to refresh all the outposts? cheat ShowActiveMissions lists them all, but none of the commands to force complete them or deactivate them works.

Currently flying around the map starting them and killing the vault is the only way we've found to get rid of the 20+ gamma outposts.

The other thing you can check is make sure you havel the correct server type in the search (PvE vs PvP) and check the mod filter to make sure you are not filtering by mod. Also, check the spelling and make sure you are searching for the right name.

I havent seen a fix that worked or found aynthing usefull so ill ask here, I have problems with the cosmetics system, all the holiday skins dont apply to my character, they just get crafted as items i can lose on death. Respawning, fast traveling, enabeling default survivor items, reseting cosmetics and cinematics all havent worked. I play on an unofficial nitrado server i host for me and a friend, from what i can tell transfering on and off the map isnt an option. On a similar note i also havent reicieved the explorer note and first round of skins from the lost colony milestones tab. Any help is apreciated

Basically I was flying on a rock drake towards the broodmother's den on Valguero on my PS5 singleplayer save.

I blue screened and crashed while gliding towards the den. I thought nothing unusual because tbh ps5 crashes a lot.

I went to go restart as usual but this time this blue screen crash has now caused Valguero to always crash on startup, making that map unplayable.

Issue is that now I try my other maps and now Astraeos, Scorched Earth, & Ragnarok, are now all crashing on initial map startup. This never happened prior to my Valguero crash.

Any tips on how I can try to save my singleplayer saves?

for Bison, ya only need 1-2 males and 5-6 Females

also, tame yourself a high level Gloon and pump everything into Melee

if ya can find one that has a good capacity charge and regen, ya can just pump the rest into Melee

there's been reports on Single Player that creatures will despawn when they're out of render distance

I think WC did this to help mitigate the overspawning issues on Lost Colony but as usual, it bled into other maps

Trains need optimized badly. How does the club ark train missions go? After building some walls and whatnot on my train cars, my toon begins rubber banding just trying to walk through a doorway until eventually phased through the whole thing and left behind on the tracks as my train rolls away.

cyber structures has an update very often. you cannot uninstall it and join a server that has it. requires it to be on your system. only way to be sure its not an update and is actually using up the storage is checking your files to see it

Yeah, that’s actually pretty common with ARK. We’ve seen dedicated servers crash without a crash stack when it’s related to sudden RAM spikes, mod conflicts, or certain engine-level issues after updates.

A quick thing to check is memory usage around the time of the crash and whether any mods were recently updated. ARK can sometimes just exit without logging anything useful.

Are you running any mods, or is it a mostly vanilla setup?

gocha, if it’s fully mod-free and mostly hitting Valguero (and sometimes Astraeos), that points to a map-specific issue rather than config changes.

Valguero in particular has had cases of silent crashes after updates or during memory spikes, especially around map loads. Worth checking RAM usage right before the crash and whether it started after a recent ARK update.

Unfortunately ARK can still exit without throwing a crash stack in those cases.
