One "small" update can affect every dino, for example, or every build piece, or every piece of gear, or rocks, or trees, or all of that and then some, or none of that and something else entirely.

you may be confusing two different, unrelated but similar looking things. rendering is technically completely local, it just means something being visible. replication in UE terms is the server telling the player client that something exists or updating it. they can be independent. supply drops always replicate, globally, and always render, but they seem to have a few different rendering detail levels based on distance. dinos, structures, ect have a range at which they replicate, and also render at the same range, so both tend to happen at once, hence ark players using "render" as a colloquialism for stuff replicating to client

but yes, most stuff has a "render sphere", and a similar thing for replication range. some stuff like harvestable trees are a little weirder
