#Audio sounds 'muffled' after editing on Audacity

Hello everyone! I've been having some problems with recording on Audacity. In the past my usual editing routine is to normalize my audio volume and then use the noise reduction feature to get rid of background white noises. But after that my voice always comes out sounding a bit muffled.. Does anyone have any advice on what is causing this and how I can fix it?

For reference I use an Audio Technica 2020 condenser mic, Focusrite Scarlett Solo 3rd gen interface and a pop filter.
And I've attached some recordings for an audition where the creator of the project gave me the same feedback for my sound quality if it helps at all!

Any help and advice would be really appreciated! Thank you!!

I don't have the original recording without any editing because I already saved the file but I did a quick recording without editing anything at all!

I'm not sure why but my recording always comes out really quite even with the gain up so that's why I normalize the whole clip first

Thank you so much!

I also looked up some tips online and tried compressing the audio, maybe my ears are too tired or used to my own voice so I can't tell if there's much of an improvement (• ▽ •;)

Do you think this is good enough or are there other things I can do to make it better?
