I’m going to break it down so that even you can understand why they let it burn…

First, again, Fat Albert was performing. That means that there are ZERO aircraft or ground vehicles moving. If the fire had been an issue, a C-130 has tons of fuel and can also divert to any of the many airfields nearby.

Second, it wasn’t an easily flammable field. The grass was green and wet due to weather. It didn’t spread. Period.

Third, if you had a bigger picture, you would see the fire truck on the far side and what isn’t in that picture is the fire commander staged nearby, watching.

Fourth, the distance between the fire and the crowd was far. No harm possible.

Time to invest in a bigger brain…

If there’s tons of fuel onboard, it can divert at any time. Grand. Let it divert, or at least circle out of the way. Surely there is a contingency plan in place for a literal fire next to a runway that would allow for this. A ground vehicle has an engine and can move with a few seconds’ notice, so I don’t see how it would be incapable of getting to the location of a fire, especially when airport firefighting vehicles are literally designed to do this on short notice. If the trucks can’t access any given point on the field, then perhaps it’s the airshow planners who are missing the larger picture.

The amount of complacency here is how people get killed when a situation arises that isn’t a dumbass little fire

Nobody ever said the fire truck was the fire chief. He was out there in a non-fighting truck.

Two runways. Utilized near for landing in this case. As Llama said, nowhere near, and it was essentially just smoldering at that point.

While it was technically uncontrolled, it was not significant. The first image just made it look bad.

We had fire trucks (airport and traditional) able to reach any position with water on the field within 60 seconds. Yes, we test and train for that, and the FAA has to approve our plans. Did you ever consider that the FAA could, and would, cancel or place things in a hold?

Oh, also, look at the direction of the smoke in the first picture. If it was headed toward the crowd or active runway, we would’ve escalated our response.

Additionally, since you’ve apparently never fought an electrical and potential chemical (blue water from the portable) fire, if we had attacked immediately, it could’ve caused worse problems.

I don’t know how many times I have to say it, but chill. Your narrow view of a small event does not make it an emergency requiring immediate response.

I’m not going to dignify you with the amusing details of our debrief with the air boss, show directors, and performers the next day.
