For Sony E, I just replaced my 150-600 Sport with the 200-600 and haven’t looked back. The sigma has sharpness drop off beyond 400 that the Sony simply doesn’t, and honestly that made it worth the extra cash. The Sony is a dream for aviation and wildlife.

Use shutter speed priority, if prop planes use a 1/250 speed and pan with the plane to get the prop blur, if a jet keep to 1/2000 or change it up depending on ur style

i was at AirVentrue 2023, i was spotting with AirShowStuff when the Wisconsin Air National guard did a combined arms combat demo, 6-8 H-60 Helis, 2 F-35s, and one KC-135 participated, the H-60s did rope drops as one F-35 did mock strafe runs and the other did refueling passes with the KC-135, as one of the H-60s started to hover the F-35 and KC-135 flew over me, as they turned in the were angled for a three for one shot with the H-60 hovering, and then i managed to get that photo, AirShowStuff has a better photo with the same angle as me, its on one of his YT thumbnails. personally its one of my fav shots ive taken.

They both got rejected for bad post processing but I’m not sure what I should change especially since the second one the only change I made was pretty much white balance and that’s it

Shoving yourself into a box and calling yourself a spotter is a great way to lose any chance at artistic merit

Spotters for me are people who photograph the planes just to collect them like the livery, type, callsign,etc. I purely don't care about which type it is, I do like aviation offcourse but I don't mind if it either is an F16, B747, cessna 152. I just like aircrafts thats all, so I guess I will go by an aviationphotographer because I offcourse photograph planes to get a certain shot but not because I photograph planes to get the livery of my checklist.

I began as a spotter but after half a year of spotting it was getting boring to see the same planes over and over again in the same angle, so I started experimenting with Face to face shots, certain detail shots, pannings just to challenge me. I also learned that when I was a spotter I had stress for litterly 1 plane, and if I missed it it was painful to me , so now when I go photographing I don't check the weather, runways, scheduled departures/arrivels, I just go to where I want, I observe how they are flying and I try something new everytime.

This is from my last visit, my goal was to get a sharp detail shot of an aircraft, and I got a succes with this 747 🙂

The sky will always be brighter then the aircrafts in that light so I guess overexposing the sky so you would get a better exposed aircraft

For jets I use a high shutter, most of the time around the 1/1600 aperture around 10 and then I raise the ISO to compensate, I also shoot a bit underexposed in cloudy weather because if somehow the sun gets through the clouds or it turns brighter my photos will be overexposed and it's easier to recover underexposed then overexposed

Yeah offcourse but you gotta work with what you got, I started with a 70-300 that couldn't autofocus properly so🤣

But for me editing is very important

This is RAW, a bit like yours with the F18's brighter sky then aircraft

With editing I was able to recover a lot of data and create this.
