can you change the fresnel zoom when the flash isnt mounted to the camera?
Nope. No matter the config it's locked to Mzoom 14mm
are you in full manual flash mode?
The problem is there in both manual and ETTL
even with the flash detatched?
im ngl itll be hard to diagnose further for non standard flashes since phottix is some unknown rebrander
can only recommend reflashing firmware if thats even possible on your flash
It is, and I did, with the latest update. Still the same, but when I booted it up, it was set at 105mm untill it cycled the zoom and locked in at 24mm again
Should I open it up and see if the diffuser retraction mechanism isnt doing what it's supposed to?
Some sources say never open a flash, but others say to just disconnect and wait until it discharges
really, really dont bother attempting to open one up
esp if you dont know the internals or how the flash is built
esp the fresnel head, most cheaper flashes are never built with repair in mind
Allright.
So, I got the mitros and an odin transmitter for about 30 dollars, so it's not a big loss.
My intent was to use it for fill outside on bright days. Will it still work for that even if the fresnel head is locked to 24mm or should I just scrap it?
the lack of fresnel zoom just means your flash is going to flash much wider than normal
it wont concentrate power to account for a narrower fov
for fill flash i doubt it will have any effect since you'd be using modifiers on your flash if you didnt want spill
