I guess since the cameras aren't yours you can't play with the settings?
They might have a Servo AF mode set that changes how the AF functions. You can modify how sticky the AF is to targets and how sensitive to motion it is.
Do they have it still set where the shutter button half press also focuses? Thats not amazing for fast paced photography (I dislike it in general) and back button AF is preferred. You can lock the focus with back button AF but if they have it setup for shutter focus 🤷

@tidal dune switched the af mode from one-shot to servo on the r7 and its behaving now

I meant in the settings menu go to the Af Tab. Theres an option called servo af that lets you select different types of autofocus settings for servo mode

I thought you were already using servo, so I am glad you found that by what I said too one shot is best for like static displays or landscapes

Sometimes that's the issue, other times it looks a little bit like watercolour (although I guess that's what I get for shooting on a phone 😅)

I mainly shoot on my phone (S25 Ultra), but on standard mode. I would try using Pro mode, but figuring out what settings to use is tricky.

I'm going to Donington Park in July so I wanna try getting better at using Pro mode.

if you wish to try panning, try a shutter speed of around 1/125 and match the car's speed through the corners

you can drop the shutter more once you're comfortable with that

you should be able to drop your iso fairly low as you're outdoors during daytime, i'd go around 100-400 but it's totally eyeballing

f/4 should make sure you have things in focus, just ensure your focus distance is about the distance to the cars as you capture them

everything impacts your exposure though:

• lower the f stop (f/X.X) number, the wider open the aperture is so more light gets let in to the sensor
• higher the shutter speed (1/XXX), the less time the sensor is exposed for
• higher the ISO, the brighter the image

It's a setting on the camera app for Pro mode, Idk what that would need to be set to

you can lightly fuck around with it but i'd keep it pretty neutral

if it's overcast somewhere around 5000K is ideal, if you're not that arsed then you can set it to auto and it'll correct based on the software's assessment of the environment

you can push either way if it looks a bit too blue or orange and you want to pull back to neutral

this is the bit i do in post 99% of the time though
