For action the biggest advantage is it does let you focus purely on composition rather than trying to keep whatever it is in focus, which isn't insignificant

Like the birds you mention, I rely more on af boxes on the z6, for the most part not issue, though with bird eye AF you could just compose and trust the camera to pick it out fairly reliably
