i see
can u get decent action shots on a7iv
Yeah 100%
im more curious on your settings for video, i'm very confused on it
a7iv is great for everything pretty much
never did proper video
hows the a6700
Uhhh
Sick too, wouldnt want apsc for anything other than wildlife tho
yep true
probably should just learn it honestly
u shoot in log or nah?
I'm not that knowledgeable on video either
I dont shoot much video, wanna start but if I do I wanna shoot log, and to properly edit slog3 10 bit I'd need davinci resolve studio
So if I ever shoot Video I usually just use s cinetone
willow-tit gave me instant feedback about the quality of peanuts. 🤣
200-600 supremacy !
how they are not scared coming in hand like that ?
living in a remote area helps I figure
Willow tits are quite fearless and those are quite used to me.
I had a Siberian Tjiftjaf in the Netherlands around a month ago, normally lives in the Tundra and was not used to humans at all. It just chilled in low bushes like 20cm from where I was sitting
this only happen with sparrow here
Cool framing; like a window of leaves
Crow
Juvenile Black-crowned night heron i believe
Rip
Aww I love it regardless
He Angy
December checkup!!
||Also, if any of you want in on a community entirely for bird photography, just dm me||
is this comment allowed lol? ^
u gotta post these in #🦀・creatures
ohh nvm u dont have access
aw man
these would go crazy
yea i only talked here to get access to those channels lol
this forum is a cool part of the server tho
if it's named greater i think it's decently sized
ive seen least terns tho
and those r hella tiny
Yeah they're quite a bit bigger than 2 thumbs. And it's also in Australia, most animals there are either way too big or too deadly for what they should be
Yeah, they are pretty big by tern standard. They are bigger than black-headed gull.
Common terns are pretty doable in flight and they are a fair bit smaller than greater crested
Smh I dont have any time for wildlife photography
Ik it's not bird but that's was awesome
Why is blud so chill
Still unedited
Sick
He was so gentle and curious
Is that an ostrich?
Showing some love for other animals ❤️
First one is awesome!
obviously a seal, smh head
Oh yeah, I guess it does have webbed feet. I can never tell my reptiles apart
Nah bro it's a Whale
birbs
First dove bath
damn, need a lens foot on that one
I have a lot more to edit
Wait is this in Camargue ?
I have some 15-35s like that
They’re nice for really distant birds over open ground, and spotting targets at the rifle range
And the skies, of course
yeah that's pont de gau i reconised that
i go there a lot (and this monday one more time)
I only live 2h away so I might come more often
Grimaud
Salon de Provence for me
Really nice
if you can maybe we can meet us ?
I want to go the salon de Provence aswell cause there’s a nice zoo there I believe
yeah Zoo de la Barben
Maybe
if you do the zoo go in april or may there is a falcorny event
Nice, I was planning on going during that period aswell
yeah and it's pretty calm during this period
found a wood duck today for the first time, also got the ideal shot in the spot
hopefully next time ill get them in the water, but happy with this one
big guns today
yeah bird paradise
some sony event
Noice
damn r u a sony affiliate or something
they let u use their gear?
no
they are generally very open about loaning gear
I went to a birding event and Sony was giving ppl a1ii and 400-800 to use for the day for free it was cool
didn't even need to sign anything or give a deposit
what the
They sold a lotta stuff that day
no but it was a little annoying to put all my preferred settings in the cam
cant export/import settings on card?
no idea how that works btw just curious
Idk about sony, but on Nikon you can. But there's also often a pretty big difference in settings between models, so if you don't have a similar model at home it'll probably not be that useful
You can export onto SD card with Sony yes
idk if it'd work between a6700 and a1ii I didn't try
raptor found
HOLY SHIT A FUCKING PEREGRINE
Two peregrines hunting a flock of pigeons
Both of them
Yup, Lifer
Waiting for him to come down
what can I change here? is it worth trying?
got this shot from like 100 metres away
spotted her from across the lake and drove there asap
shit quality, downloaded this from messenger where i sent it to a friend
Honestly considering how far away u were this photos quality isn’t bad
I like it. The subject stands out cause of the monotone background
play around with it in Lightroom
tomorrow i go chase some crane i located a spot when there 2 of them everytime
that will be so good to got a pic of them
ebird says house sparrows are "infrequent" here
so i guess i'm doing house sparrows now
Js climb the chimney :D
Lool yeah that would be insane
Low-key it's just a ladder
This shot will be so good in post
Sadly waaay too far away lol, will go there again if I ever find the time for it
ducks in the snowfall.
And some dippers too.
Why did I think it was rain 😅 snow makes a lot more sense
Yeah, rain wouldn't be so visible. 😅 👍
this pic someone in a local discord took with their phone thru binoculars kinda goes hard
Very
Not sure how I feel about this honestly, never gotten a bird this close lol
It’s nice! I would try to get the whole bird in frame if possible
I liked how the foreground kind of framed it if that makes sense
This edit is kind of meh though, need to work on it again
first bird in flight shot on my new sony 200-600
honestly i'm so happy, I blindly tracked him, basically looking at the bird with my eyes and just pointing the lens to where it could be, and i guess i got lucky!!
it was also shot on flexible spot - small focus setting
caught a visitor at our sea house 🐦
he's in shock lmao
"did that thing just.. blink at me?"
this cardinal looks spooky to me and idk why
It’s cute
This blud was sitting in my backyard and was not happy about me taking photos of him
"Pathetic creature"
Definitely judging my cheap setup

Got lucky tho, it was a 2 second exposure
I mean they don't move very much but they still do from time to time
Taken while hunting a few months ago
wow, beautiful
What aperture? Beautiful photo
Really nice, but there is lots of banding on the sky of the first picture even if I open it on browser. 🤔
i think discord compressed the file
bc the direct file is fine with no banding
5.6
Normally the feeder looks horrible in photos, but I think it looks quite nice here with the ice and snow
anhinga?
could not tell you
looks like a cool bird tho
queensland australia*
they're neat, some cultures call them snakebirds because of how their necks move
ah then it's probably an australiasian darter
which is related to the anhinga
Think it's time I take a break from the birds and try to do some other animals, although I'll probably get distracted by a pretty one and be back to square one
mountain lions
Trap cameras are not cheating
You have to precompose with your best guess of where the animal will be and risk your camera to the elements
Some of the best wildlife footage out there is from camera traps
In the heart of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, a chance encounter with a wounded bull elk leads wildlife filmmaker Jake Davis on an unexpected journey. Suspecting the elk had narrowly escaped a wolf attack, Jake returns the next day to find ravens circling overhead. He sets up an array of high-end remote cinema cameras—the same gear he use...
Trap cameras are super cool
Also it’s stupid to get that close to a bear or a lion, so a remote solution is good
thats sick
BIF photography with manual focus 14mm lens.
Harris buzzard of the falconry today (yeah they are all different now name them)
the angle looks so funny
Yeah something different and it was really fun to take those frames. Have to try again with better light.
It is so dim here that I had to fake some sun with led Christmas lights 😅
Tried also flash, but not that much because I 'm not sure how it affects to birds eyes.
I really want to do snow shots but it never snows here
Snow looks nice, but I'm not big fan of it otherwise. 😅 Specially wet snow is annoying. Real winter when it is really freezing is much better than this that we had lately dark and temperature is around 0C
wow this is so cool
snow is the only time of the year I really do bird photography honestly, because I feel like I can never get a photo better at other times of the year lol
In rain it's so magical
Winter is good time for bird photography on feeder, but at least here there is only few species to photograph. And days are really short.
makes sense yeah. feeder is the only thing I can really do though without a drivers license.
My dream
@green meadow how do you feel about precapture? Do you think its very useful? Have you used it?
2pm sunset is disgustign
ngl this sounds fun for planespotting because you can go out earlier to spot in dark conditions
good ol'e plane spotting
You can go out in dark conditions by going at night
what kind of owl is this
looks similar to a great horned owl
eurasian eagle owl
ooh neat
Went to the zoo and ended up spending a majority of the time photographing the birds 😭
ooh send
i might go to huntington central park tmrw
they have wilson's snipe, sora, and ridgeway rail
Actually going to the beach to see if there's sandpipers or gulls
These all on feeder?
What lens?
do u edit ur photos?
i thinkn these would be great with a tiny bit of editing
u have a great subject and a nice, blurry background but exposure is a tiny bit too high or low in each photo
slap a couple gradients on some of these and you got a banger photo
i did but very quckly as i was dying after walking for 4H non stop with no drink
i just wanted to post the birds but i'll re edit them after
i'm still incredibly pissed off i forgot to go back to full frame mode
9.3mp image that i've had to crop into lol
U would get the same number of MP either way
Good ol rf 100-400
sad i don't have many big birds where i live
i really need to start travelling a lot more
Small ones r cooler to take pics of tbh
yh but all the small ones around here are the same ones i can see 100x a day
i'd like to photograph some parrots, eagles etc
almost managed to photograph a common buzzard but a car went past and scared him away
he was in a very nice place too so would've been a great pic
The colors
here in Oulu
bruh
and when the sun is up its cloudy :/
Real
And bit further north it won't rise until January. 😅 At least they have real winter there.
Same here near Kuopio. Today and yesterday the weather was nice and sunny, otherwise whole December has been really grey.
just checked the weather and it says next time its clear is 23rd of december
gotta wait over a week to photograph northern lights again
here the sky was clear on friday and yesterday too
mm peregrine
Still no good photos sadly, will go back there next weekend or so
Saw some other raptors and three male pheasants tho
Gave my gf the cam because of heat haze from the car lol
Some random edits
that fourth one is really nice
DAAAAAMN
chilling
what pheasants are they?
common pheasants
Little hiding
Reasons I want a longer lens (my longest one is 55-200)
A long lens isn’t going to magically make your photos better. Perspective and being eye level is the most important aspect to making great bird shots. Try to sit still in one spot and have them come to you
yea birds on a telephone pole arent gonna look any cooler on a 500mm lens
They're so much better like when they're not a photo of my camera screen
My phone camera is so ass
Yeah
I have a week to get photos of the kingfisher
Computer is a 10 hour drive away
No clue and storage lol, I'll send them properly next week
good luck
Thank you!
Well today i'm going to a pond with a low horizon and mirrored reflection
I hope for a insane light and flamingoes
Good luck!!!!!
Niceee
There's even fog in local swamps around
If it's don't moving this will be a insane moment
GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!
The spot is insane
Woahh
I also did the nuptial dance of the flamingo
With a perfect background
Wow!!!
i'm so happy making those i dreamed about it for a long time
very cool
thanks
Yeah i thinked of it
damn thats so cool
r u standing in the water too?
nope that was from the riverbank
yeah plus the horizon was really low
Those photos are really really good!! Well done man!
I was lowkey army crawling on the beach
Again, my laptop is a ten hour drive away
waht lens do u have
I was using 55-200, f/5.6 at 200mm
And most was shot at 200mm focal length because well, birb
The wb and colors are mucked up a bit by my phone they're better irl trust
Nice!
I'll send them properly when I'm home next week (or in early January after I get back from a hike)
My phone really did a number in the photos they got butchered
Thanks ❤️
C’est ou?
Going birding again :P Beach crawling time 😔
The chances of getting killed by a long-tailed tit are low.. but never zero. At least if looks could kill. 😅
"You have seed on your phone ?"
What lense do you use if I may ask?
Guys look at this treecreeper I saw today
bro is like : food ?, food ?, food ?, food !, food ?
The potential is crazy
nah tomorrow i have to go out and find small birds to take images similar to urs
cause they look so cool
problem here is all the birds like hiding
oh wait i forgot heavy rain tomorrow 🙁
Rip
Hungry little dude
So cool
My main wild life lenses are Nikon 600mm f6.3, 100-400mm f4.5-5.6 and f-mount 300mm f2.8. But lately I have tried using some not so usual focal lengths. For example, that photo was taken with a Sigma 85mm f1.4 lens that I bought used last week.
damn still havent seen the roadrunner
It seems fairly tame towards people. Let me and some walkers get like 3 feet away from it
Was around pond C at San Joaquin Marsh in Irvine
Nice!! I envy your lenses 😅
I'm probably going to start saving for the sigma 150-600mm (nikon f mount)
I have purchased those little by little and I have favored used ones. Sigma is probably great lens, but I would also consider Nikon 200-500 f5.6. 👍
I've looked around on trademe (new zealands version of ebay) and didn't find it and the 150-600mm is the same price on every listing
I'll keep a look out for the 200-500 too :D
Honk intensifies
grimaud in france
it's raining until the 1st of january apparently
Yeah shitty week
i MIGHT still go out with a bin bag over my camera cause rain has pretty much stopped for now
might have to make my own rainproof casing cause i ain't paying 3K+ for one
Shouldnt be too hard to find kingfishers then
Just use your cam
But this also works
Did that before
internal zoom prob better for surviving rain lol
Yeah
I think i need to get one of these covers for my 400mm it has the barrel zoom thing
yeah and sand (one of the worst)
Anyone got advice on how to get "good" bird photos, beyond eye level
Composition, action, behaviors, storytelling, lighting, sharpness, and something different from the norm (BOAS)
BOAS?
Bird on a stick
With the right elements going on they can be great but it's just been done so often it's hard to make it stand out.
Oooo ok
Or bird in the ground ir flying lol
Needs to be doing something it doesn't usually do
what cfexpress do u guys have?
there r some bad reviews for angelbird on r5 so im hesitant
was looking at sandisk but apparently the card heats up super fast
I was hoping I could post this here, because I was wondering if anyone could help me figure out what kind of an owl this is?
Probably a barn owl
thank you!
It's not look at the little ears feathers on the back
Looks like a Long-eared Owl
i want to see an owl
Slovenia
ChatGPT said its a barn owl too
but idk
i can see the differences but i also cant
gave me this picture lol
it looks IDENTICAL to the barn owl
Lmao why did it ai enhance his pic
But ye thats not a barn owl
i dont think it did
did it?
or it did
Ofc it did

it's totally not a barn owl
barn owl don't have ear tufts and we can see them in the video
Thats what I said
Prolly short eared
yeah maybe or long eared
Whatever it is it's definitely an owl
I think they all heat up fast. I went with ProGrade Digital - Gold, because the reviews where good. No issues so far but I’ve only had it for 6 months or so.
Yep I got ended up getting prograde too
I think it's a long-eared owl because the wing does not have the white trailing edge that short-eared owls have
I have Lexar and it’s been good
Too broke to have the luxury to use one
so what kind of an Owl is it 😭
so many answers
even on other forums
nobody knows for sure
I'd say it is a long-eared owl
Face pattern, tufts location, lack of white edge on wings all are consistent with long-eared owl
What are these forums? There are enough diagnostic features that I’m pretty sure experienced birders can identify it easily
Chatgpt is fucking stupid, don't trust it
The white edge on its wings are only visible in flight when looking from the front, so they can't be seen in the video
Face patterns look more like a short eared to me, but idk, it could be either tbh
The white edge is on the back of the wing and it doesn't look like this bird has it, if anything it's harder to see it from the front
i don't know shit about owls so i won't comment
with a color image it'd be simple enough, but this is not that
How important is precapture in you guys’ opinion?
It’s useful, but not essential
If you learn your subject’s behavior you don’t need it
But it can be very practical if you’re anticipating some action
But it will drain your battery and fill your cards quickly so it’s not something you’ll want to run constantly
I would love it if I didn't have a 33ms readout speed
R7?
But u can always just spray and pray/get lucky. Bitzoic is right tho, if u notice a pattern u can anticipate it's behavior like in this case
Yes
R5 mark ii has a lot faster right?
Hope the R7 mkII fixes it because electronic shutter is quite unusable in its current state
Only reason I’m not buying a camera rn is for the r7 ii
If it's got a CF Express slot, good readout speed, bigger buffer, and is blackout free, I could see it being a very nice camera to use
Guys
should I take my cam with me to work tomorrow and go shoot some birds afterwards
Havent done it properly in months
Might as well
asking the bird photography chat if u should bird photography
Answer is always yes
How cropped is this
Lmao ye
took it with me
stuffed all my gym stuff in there too somehow
?
Photo of my camera screen 😭 😅
There's more but there are my favorites, they're better than my phone camera makes them seem 😭
The closest one I got so lucky, I was done for the day and was just on my way to the bathroom and the kōtare was right there
So I ran back to grab my camera from the tent lol
@magic crown can you check something for me
If you focus the 200-600 with oss on
hold it up to your ear
does it make a very high pitched beeping Sound
He make sound at high pitch but not with a beep i think
When you say a beep it's a short beep or a constant beep (like holding the af)
constant
Oh so yeah it's normal it's the autofocus motor working
sony 🥀
Yeah i got the same think when i heard it for the first time x)

thought the rain I was in fucked the lens lmao
Our lenses can go in more extreme condition
Mine goes wild for some
(Blizzard, extreme heat, ice, extreme cold, sand, rainstorm)
He suffered so much and work like nothing happen that's crazy
was filling the bird feeder when suddenly a willow tit came to eat from it while i was filling
didnt have my camera nor phone with me of course 🙄
i built my own out of wood
Waiting for peregrines to show up
Waiting for peregrines to show up
Hell yeah
Still too far away but already 100x better than the last photos I got
Slick
Got to watch him hunt twice already
nothing caught yet
I wanna see him swoop a pigeon out of the air at like 200kph lmao
Insanely dark buzzard
Printing one more feeder for the birds
what feeder do you use?
it's to put on a table
model?
Of the printer or the print ?
printer : Ender 3
model : https://cults3d.com/fr/modèle-3d/divers/mangeoire-oiseaux-chrisanto
should I pop down to the lake around now and try to take some pictures before sundown at 5:30
Why do they do this
They are social birds
In a lakes topology where are you most likely to find certain kinds of birds?
LETS GOOOO ONE WAS ACTUALLY GOOD
HELL YEAH
Finally got a decent pic of my nr 1 favorite bird
gulls, terns, cormorants and ospreys are found on poles and stuff poking out
Birds like sandpipers and plovers are found on the beach
Kingfishers on branches that are above water
most waders, ducks, grebes are near the shore
haha I'm not sure if that's what you wanted to know
good for me
herons and uh those blackbirds?
egrets?
storks cranes and pelicans
think thats everything else i am curious on
Herons are near the shore/reeds
Pelicans can be anywhere but mostly away from the shore in my experience
I don't know about cranes
Never seen them
Do you mean cormorants when you say blackbirds?
they'll mostly be swimming and diving when they're not on a perch
the uh red ones
these are like water likers right?
Where there’s standing water and vegetation, Red-winged Blackbirds are likely to be one of the most common birds you see and hear
interesting
yoo
i wanna get a photo printed
retractable feet
yea it's def super cool
make sure ur photo is high enough quality tho
hmm
I was thinking one of these 3 as a starter
I dont think i have a super good bird photo yet
That is horizontal
My photos are mainly the vertical crop thing
u can def do vertical pics too
I want horizontal since im replacing these old paintings someoen gave us
deadahh cant trll what they are
I suppose vert can work here but idk
looks like two faces
whatcha gonna do with them
i got no clue
they dont really fit well onto our walls at all
the room they reside in is full of my stuff actually
like 3d printers model planes and fishing rods
so i think plane photos would go well in there
Might go with that size for my next print
Last print I did was a bit too big
24x32
Takes a lot of space on my wall
how's the detail
Great tho
Yes it’s not as perfect as a smaller one would be but it’s pretty nice, on canvas as well so there’s some texture to it
ohh i see
Seen like 40 cormorants just chilling at the edge of the lake and all got spooked when I got like 50ft away from them
I'll probably take a day trip out there sometime in January, that way I could justify the 2hr drive
you getting rid of em?
Probably just gonna leave them somewhere in my shed
@barren yoke you still around?
my sister got me a bird feeder for christmas and this morning a few birds were already lining up
W sister
Yes I am, sorry. Whats up?
Nothing I was just wondering cause your last message was a year ago 🙂
Hope things are well
Haha yea I'm still alive
I just don't use discord as much :) things are good, happy holidays!
Imagine if a bird land here
what feed?
It’s some finch food
bird feed 😎
I saw a ton of super cool birds like bald eagles swans allat in this one area but my mom didnt let me and my dad stop
Cba in coming back for a while its a far drive
Im on some random trip to areas around here that ive never been to
Did one?
Back in Austria for the holidays visiting family. My spot from summer is now cold and dreary
Why are black grouse always in a big pack in winter? Saw like 20 in a tree but they flew when I took my cam out the car window lol
Looks funny when they're all in just one tree. Big ass birds
Some shot of today
Started to edit them (i'm so tired i need to sleep lmao)
Such beautiful birds
o
If Momma sleep we sleep
cute
Going to the gorges du verdon (france) in the next few days, should be able to see some raptors!
And some goddamn kingfishers
Expecting to see some griffon vultures
Good luck!
little and medium sized birds
third one is fire
crop slightly awkward but 2 birds like that is cool comp
Was setting up a perch for a Kingfisher yesterday, she came to visit and landed like 2m away from me and dove for a fish
Will put some hours in today and hopefully get it in front of the lens
Fair enough, happy holidays
thanks, happy to see these little birds again
Spent a good 4 hours, but was super windy and rainy. Saw it fly by about a dozen times but I think my perch was too exposed to the elements for it to land there
Yeah this weather ain't the best
Which one tho?
Yep definitely got unlucky with weather tho
If you can get to the Grand Canyon, you may also see condors
Yep or Zion I heard
I think pinnacles has the best chance
But still saw nothing cause of rain
Should I try birding with a 50mm?
I'm kinda lensless at the moment
what happened to ur 100-400
i know anti does some pretty cool in flight shots with a super short lens
u need a smart setup for that tho
I sold it so I could better afford a 300mm f2.8
However that gets here around January 7-14
very cool send pics when u get it
Will do
do u think the AF will be ok i know it's a bit of an older lens
Should be adequate enough
I hardly do bird in flight anyways
I'll probably upgrade to the V2 version in like 2-3 years anyway
wow it's actually surprisingly affordable
4k for excellent condition on MPB i thought it woudl be much more
I’ve found it’s always best to carry a second lens as a backup for landscape or whatever else you want to photograph when you don’t find any animals
Yea I did on the first day when it was cloudy but then on the second day it was quite beautiful and I didn’t bring it LOL
It’s doable if you have, like, a feeder by the window
Or if you go somewhere with ducks/pigeons/gulls
you need to have wind and clear/partial cloudy day
This one was taken with 50mm so yeah it is possible. But you need extra tame birds for that or leave camera where bids will be and use some kind of remote controller. 👍
I saw a Eurasian pygmy owl today, so new birding year got a good start. 🥳
looks like he's got a nice breakfast
what a floofy owl
Yeah nice and plump bank vole. Owl probably stored it for later time inside that hole in the tree. 👍
wonder if that's just the owl's shelter, or if there'll be a nest come spring
I think I have read or heard that they use several places for storing food. But that is definitely place that I need to keep my eye on for possible nesting.
@gilded yarrow it seems like I inherited your Kingfisher curse. Spent 13 hours the past 2 days, it landed in a tree next to me about 10 times, each time all I could do is just stare at it bc as soon as I moved it flew off. Never landed on my branch, will come back next week to hopefully get lucky
Damn
Cant set up to look at that other branch/tree?
Not really, there's a lot of branches in the way
But I'm hoping it'll get used to the perch I put up in the coming days
Might have my step dad put up a trail cam to see if it actually used the perch at all
ooo
And they cycle?
ooh congrats
the vote ends in 3 weeks if i remember
but there's a lot of ppl so the score is pretty instable
i will never forget this weather condition
shooting in this condition is like living in a dream
It's beautiful when fog drifts above the water
I know that's not in the video
Oh yeah
lol we all have bird wallpapers
:D
There was fog but really thin
And that's the result of the trip
Man
Eh, still very far away
True that
Bro have luck of god
Fox kit here
mine is a default wallpaper
I swear its because of my gf, I always see kingfishers when I'm with her, just had my cam with me this time
the last like 10 times I've been there I didnt even see him, now that I was with my gf I get a decent pic
Miiiight be nice once edited, no details visible tho
I still have yet to photograph a fox 😭
I did find a fox den 2 days ago so I'll be going tomorrow morning to see if I can catch it
The positioning isn't great, it's on the shade side of some trees, right on the edge of a forest hill and farm field, so it's either in the open on the field or in the forest on the hill
Posted it in #🖼・photo-sharing , might as well post it here
Man, seeing a wild fox is on my dream list...
Unfortunately they are considered as pests in France, so free to hunt. And hunters are plentiful. 🙁
Should be easier to find in the winter, especially with prints in the snow. I found one hole of the den during the summer and now that everything is more exposed without leaves I found 3 more entry/exit points
This entry is directly next to a trail and completely missed it in the summer with foliage on the trees
I also happen to live in a place that hasn't seen snow for like 10 years 😅
could also be badger
But could also be both, they sometimes share their dens
wow
How close was the bird?
I can zoom for days, nice
Even when I am close, lack of light destroys most details on my slow lens. This looks so good!
Havent gotten a pic like that in ages smh
But ye light is especially bad rn here in germany
lol I have a very similar pic from some days ago
Damn it Discord, AVIF isn't that wild of a file format
so round
small birds are balls with wings
i called them blorb
jorb
Strange looking bird but its loved either way

why does it looks like those
yk the makeup waterdrop shaped thingies
Hmm could be worse
But could it have been better 🤔
100%
couldve been closer so that it has more feather detail
background wise etc its pretty much perfect
how cropped is that?
Very
Jobr
Jorb
Even most underbelly details, nice
This is where lack of light usually kills quality
The first big catch for 2026 will be the griffon vulture
it's going to be a great challenge to start
i'm planning my spots to got it
gorges du verdon 👀
j'ai des amis qui sont a coté du ventoux et à Cadarache
y'en a beaucoup en ce moment
ah pas mal
je vais au gorges du verdon dans quelques jours et j'espere en voir aussi
y'a eu 15 recensé hier
Wee wee
Yee I was just lucky and bird was very close, its 1/500th iso 6400
iso 6400 often means I'll end up with details destructing noise on my a6700, even with a good denoising algo. Yours looked perfectly fine. I guess a bigger sensor really is great for that kind of situations.
fuck yes
Do you use auto iso?
anyone know what bird this is?
dont think ive seen this bright yellow thing before and it was fucking tiny
like golf ball sized
Is it a siskin?
im in sweden if that helps
Yeah I would imagine Eurasian Siskin
Yeah it's a siskin
I love bird photos
I only have a micro four thirds kit but I love my prints up to 30 inches anyways
Pretty much always. I mostly use aperture priority since f6.3 is really slow for most things and I need as much shutter speed as I can for such a long focal length.
I use manual mode with auto iso
I use manual mode with auto ISO too
I sometimes go as low as 1/80th of a second when it's dark
I've done 1/3 second for a bunny in moonlight, but as you can imagine it's not super sharp
I have yet to see an owl
not so bad
Gonna go find some raptors in the next few days
cant go birding for a few weeks cause i broke my foot while skiing
oof
Ouchies
Manual with auto iso is the best
ouch
get better soon
will try
tomorrow will be very interesting cause i have to get home from the cottage on a train
dont know how i'll manage to even get to the train with this leg
lightroom's early access assisted culling is pretty nice. it's trained on people / portraits for now so "subject focus" doesn't really work for birding but misfires seems to be doing an ok job
something to keep an eye on as it progresses
does train offer service or assistance to people with some issue for you?
I think airports do it idk how trains work
Vermillion flycatcher, nice
2 or 3 individuals?
just 2
i think there is a third
but im pretty sure i only saw 2
still, great shots
