Gus began life as a fortress builder on Cadia, along with his mom building up defenses and generally doing the heavy lifting when it comes to building defenses (usually big rocks or hunks of metal) but he always dreamed of going higher and joining the Cadian regiments. He would eventually get his wish and become a simple militia Lackey, but Gus has an idea; if he does a better job than everyone, he might get into the guard proper, and began asking his fellows to time his hauling of Ammunition, getting faster and faster every time. One day, a force of Khornates started to assault the outer trenches and his Sargeant Dirk was severely wounded. Gus quickly took up the heavy stubber, linked roughly one fuckton of stubber belts together and started raining down hate on the Khornates, anything standing up was mowed down as Gus held the line with a constant stream of fire until reinforcements arrived to see Gus empty, and the stubber barrel nearly melted, where Dirk promoted Gus on the spot.. For years he would serve as a Gunlugger, becoming particularly good with an Autocannon and killing enemy armor. But during the fall he and his unit would be made to defend a spaceport to get more soldiers off world. They owuld have an easy time of it until Nurglites began attacking, taking up most of their ammunition. Dirk ordered Gus onto one of the last ships, but he would once more hold the line so the rest could get aboard; getting off just in time to watch the planet shatter like glass.. Years later Gus would be on campaign against a chaos cult, once more his unit wounded but alive, and after hearing the word blood screamed out, assumed it was Khornates and began firing at what turned out to be a group of equally wounded PDF, landing him aboard the Tancred Bastion.
