And I hope to god he won't be some fuck ass space marine
lol
we better not get primarchs in live action
Space Marines either only helmets on or fucking ugly and scarred
That's Ravenor.
Eisenhorn we had Mandragore (Chaos Marine) and the DW Librarian.
From memory...
Actually no Teke was Bequin.
Well, at the current rate of production Bequin will be decades away anyway.
All our actor picks will be aged out or dead.

Eisenhorn but hes old as fuck and played by martin skarsgaard
I think the trouble with fancasting eisenhorn is he really doesn't... look like an axtor
I liked the fiennes call
Especially after the facial paralysis he's be perfect
Just get Collin Farrell to do it in a shit fuck ton of prosthetics. Or Scarlett Johansson.
Jacob Elordi as Ravenor
Nah for real though, the important casting
Tom Hardy as Harlan Nayl
Godwyn Fischig = Karl Urban
You'd need an actor that is good in both full body prosthetics and as a voice actor. Beyond one scene where they get toasted, ravenor isn't on screen other than being a giant armored chair. Or being a twisted near corpse in an operating room.
any good short stories for servitors
The pov of one? No because they’re lobotomized
not necessarily.
Flesh and steel has servitors as a focus
You’re never gona get a pov of one bcs there’s not much going on if they’re working as intended
tbh they exist
but its like... yeah, bare bones lmao
the most recent one i remember is the one from Leviathan where the hivemind convinces a reactor-servitor to kill himself
how heroic
“Me kill thing, compliance. Me kill thing again, compliance”
Average battle servitor pov
Exactly what I’d like to see with Elordi
there is an iron hands short story from the point of view of a servitor, its a cool one
The Memory of Flesh
its kind of a part 2 to a story callled the Blessing of Iron which is about them becoming a servitor
well, kind of from the point of view of a servitor anyway....
Gravemind ah moment
Sharing… I love to dork out on curating playlists and have a handful of 40k ones for those that like to listen while reading/painting
Vulkan Lives is kinda gross
im re-reading the night lords trilogy (go figured) cause its been a while and im actually deep into 40k lore now so i like understand most of the book better but its kinda hilarious how much more the entire tenth claw just pisses me the fuck off in comparison to the first read
plus book one is just the black legion making fun of the guys the whole war
like genuinely this book becomes comedy once you enter it not at an entry level
I mean, what the trillogy does is it makes the night lords a touch more relateable and fleshed out. They are still horrible monsters tho
Despite being like my first ever 40k book
Theyre a bunch of fucking losers lmfao
Except for Xarl, the only proper chap there
And Lucoryphus
Lucy is the realest person there
Lowkey they are one of the worst warbands ive seen lmfao
Xarl is still pretty based himself
Called Talos on his bs, was the best fighter of them and fucking 1v1'd a ultramarine champ while everyone else was struggling
No lie, he was right about Uzas too
My boy Uzas did nothing wrong
Cyrion knew that in the end
I joke a lot about hating him but like, really cant since hes just acting like the average 40k chud
And he was well written into the role of hateable antagonist
Ye, the whole of First Claw is pretty good shit
uzas is like
fairly tame in the wake of reading horus heresy novels
especially now with the going perspective of "talos is a moron"
am i in support of uzas and his claim to rampant madness, no not really, but also it could be way worse
he could of been stinkin the joint up crazy style, i think they all got off lucky he was a khorne head
I remember the first time I read it my mind was constantly "is this the average warband/Night Lord?! They're useless!"
Took me a while to realize
Nope. Vandred is a dumbass and Talos is even worse
God yeah the exalted
its so funny how often he presents like i am the biggest genius and then immediately gets hit with a million people calling him a dumbass dickhead and it fuckin makes him angrier than if someone actually tried to kill him
plus him using his termy goon squad instead of actually attempting to use any of the "boons" granted to him by chaos for most of the time, bro's tied to his chair thinking he's the grand chessmaster instead of actually leading his claw, no wonder nobody trusts anyone
What makes it worse its the fact || its not even the real Vandred. Its the daemon pretending to be him.... You are a being of the warp how fucking dumb can you even be?||
||we ship of theseused this captain but kept all the dumb stuff||
like the bit at the end of the first book where he's like "how did all this trust be broken, why doesnt anyone trust each other" and its like BROTHER
YOU MADE THE SANDWHICH
BROTHER YOU ARE LEADING ONE OF THE MOST BROKEST WARBAND
OF COURSE NO ONE LIKES/TRUSTS EACH OTHER
ESPECIALLY WHEN ONE OF YOUR COLLEAGUES LEGIT DIPPED YOU FOR THE RED CORSAIRS
hey look
huron looks very trustable and like a chill hang
wouldnt you trust this guy
No lowkey I'd join the RC too theyre way better than the average warband
he's definitely a better hang than abaddon
You mean we can kinda coexist, any loot that I manage to get is rightfully mine and I only need to worry about following your orders?
Sign me the fuck in
I mean his only real ability is void battle and he can barely do shit because THEY'RE BROKE AS FUUUUCK
Their ship was constantly on the verge of exploding cause they barely had anything to spare individual fixes for their armor
Xarl is bae
Best kill/death scene in all of 40k fiction
Talos had not taken off his armor in weeks cause they couldnt afford a servitor to help him get out of it
They are worse than the average warband
Legit bum status
the covenant of blood
meanwhile while he's like "lets do an orbital re-entry while blood angels and the black legion shoot at us" he's malding in his head like i sure hope we dont die before those premonition bastards
what a dork
like talos got assigned bum at birth by his dad, whats your excuse vandred
|| possessed by the bum daemon ||
Considerably I think Uzas was also pretty cool
its gonna be sad when i finish this book and have to like
consult the horus heresy chart
why tf am i even reading these half of them are ass
Which chart
ah just the bigass chart of like horus heresy books and short stories connecting them to their disparate order, im not using it actually as a strict guide im just mostly joking about the nature of all the damn horus heresy stories
Do not try to follow it in chronological order for the love of all that is sacred
Go by release order
The lexicanum have all of them in order
Worst part for me in the NL Trilogy is that on top of being a bum Talos also refused the chaos gods boons
Like yeah on top of being a stupid useless hypocritical dummy I'm also going in no buffs
Just pure unfiltered schizophrenic bad decisions
its kinda hilarious
i said it in the other chat but bro weaponized schizophrenia instead of MAGIC
also the fucking chaos god tribunal abaddon puts him through and nurgle just goes "why am i here i dont want this bum"
I like how the only ones who tried were Slaneesh and Tzeentch
Khorne just showed up, agreed when Talos asked if Uzas was his slave and just stood there
khorne was content to ragebait
do you think the god of anger and rage is a master ragebaiter
I really love how its implied its not even some random daemons who went there but the actuak fucking chaos gods
WHY ARE YOU FOUR THERE FOR TALOS
its like a "shard of their attention" from what was said
i guess ruven put in a good word like "your favorite son abaddon really wants to fuck with this guy pleasssse"
Lowkey Talos deserved what happened
highkey even
look he had one job, his dad and everyone told him and he still biffed it
He’s got the stupid ideals
For which he’s been mocked since 30k lol
He had the ideals of Unification Wars NL
Not the 30k-40k NL
which is just
not gonna slide brother
we are not those ghosts no more talos stop tweeting about the nostramo empire and what men could be like now
Even most of them dgaf by then and he was still being like that bruh
"I wanted to be a hero" shut yo goofy ass up
We aint gonna slide past that goddamn psyker torture chamber he did on the third book
Talking bout being a hero my ASS
“I wanan be hero” clogs chain sword killing surrendering civvies at Cheraut
Hypocrite just like his gene father
Good mirror almost
LMFAO
again no idea what the hell anyone was thinking reading his 30k stuff
Slopmanders
i like the version of this gif where he's exploding

trying to get true survivor join strike team 11
Anyone have any drukhari book recommendations?
Path of the Dark Eldar
Supposedly Lelith Hesperax queen of knives is a good book too
Imo it’s
Not a good dark eldar book
Its a good book if you wana read about Lelith
Path of the Dark Eldar is excellent
I mean
her name is on the fucking title isnt it
🥀
I wish she and Sigismund would ever have squared up
Does anyone here know good books covering Arbites?
Shira Calpurnia books are pretty okay. Crossfire, Legacy, and Blind. Omnibus of all three is called Enforcer. By Matthew Farrer. And some of the Warhammer crime books are about local enforcers mostly, but also deal with law enforcement in the Imperium
Thanks, mate. 🤝

Im sorry Vulkan Lives, I wasnt familiar with your game
Loved the bit at the end where he's talking to curze and he's like you forget one thing, it's also a hammer and then uppercuts the living bojangels out of curze and goes to town on him
I’m of the opinion that happens entirely in Vulkan’s head
Intriquing interpretation, I hadnt thought of that
Reason being Curze isn’t an absolute dumbass
I can go into detail but it’s a spoiler for later books
I also like to think Curze left him being beat on purpose because of kinda wanting his visions to be wrong so he wished Vulkan to escape and kill him but didnt. Just ran away
That’s not alike to Curze
During the heresy he refused the possibility of them being wrong until he regained his hope (for like one page) in Ruinstorm
In my mind it makes more sense for someone just as insane as he is to waver here and there
He’s insane but he’s always been possessed of a faith in immutable fate that is as stubborn as Dorn
That would be the one thing he’d refuse to waver on
First of all through chaos everything is possible, so jot that down
There was no chaos in him by then
Whether there was near the end at Tsagualsa?
We can wonder
Aww my reference didnt fly
It is as the Emperor puts it, his belief in immutable fate that drives him, and his sense of innate and yet blind and moral-averse justice
Mb I am the one in the cave
Is ok
Eisenhorn talking about Cherubael
just makes me think of that clip of him from toast of london where he's going in for an audition as james bond and just fires a live pistol into the room and immediately leaves
eisenhorn when he does whatever his books are about
holy shit its Lalo Salamanca
Are there any books about thunder warriors?
Not really
They’re background worldbuilding lore that’s unimportant
If you’ve read the like 3 books they’ve showed up in that’s it
Whats the most obscure space marine chapter that gets lots of play?
Kinda of an oxymoron
Like on the tabletop?
Idfk prolly dark krakens or tome keepers
lol
Since GW gave them a transfer sheet in white dwarf
Dark Krakens seem to have a decent community too yeah
Valdor birth of the imperium?
Whats the other 2?
The outcast dead and its just that one
Unless you wana get the black books for rulebook lore
In where they’re mentioning book 1 crusade
Just read & watched the short story the last church
They were portrayted pretty cool on there
1000 Thunder warriors against a 100k?
I mean its pretty easy work to just gun down people when all of them have bolters lol
TWs also have the amazing genetic instability to occasionally just keel over and die, which Astartes generally lack
they are basically steroid monsters so
Their apex roid rage must’ve been terror inducing
lmao
obscure in-lore or irl?
cause in lore its gotta be the carcharodons cause in lore no one has ever seen or heard of them but irl theyre super popular
cause theyre always in deep space
Was thinking that even if they don't get Matt Berry for Eisenhorn, he'd make a great Tobias Maxilla.
I'm almost done with the audio book Avenging Son which came free with the new black library app. I'm enjoying it more than I thought I would. Especially liked the descriptions of administratum life.
Cato Sicarius for sure
Imagine him saying Roboute Guilliman
Avenging son is ok so is gate of bones but almost every other dawn of fire books is bad or eh
Courtesy of dilara
Hand of abbadon is also meh. And the silent king is eh. Because it's not really about the silent king
Its kinda insane how they made such a mid series
She sensed her name
Honestly yeah it's very mid.
Oh what about sea of souls I never read it
Notice how the two ok books are the ones with more Word Bearer Involvement

It's kinda insane how it was so bad yet lasted so long.
it was more or less mandated id reckon, also being imperium centric and on largely marines helps
its just kinda pathetic because we are WAY past the events that happened in all these books, the last one is literally showing Cawl going to the planet in the Great Work which is the plot of a previously released book that came out in 2023
At least it set up the starchild shit.
Sea of souls is basicially unconnected and is one of the best books from dawn of fire, its basicially just a warhammer horror entry
lol
from what i can remember its only "tie" to Dawn of Fire is like... just the admiral mentioning the indomitus fleets off-handedly lmao
DIS SUM GUD LOGIK
Should I read Knights of Macragge or Avenging Son first?
Kyme writes good UM
Def knights
Is there a book that shows what corax was up to after istvan 5
I wanna read about his shadow thingy
And why the hell is curze trapped on lion's flagship all of a sudden
Prince of Crows
That’s a debate between did Curze get captured on that chunk of the ship or did Curze capture that chunk of the ship
Deliverance Lost
That’s set waaaaaaay after the heresy tbf
Awwww
But I will check out deliverance lost and prince of crows atleast
Prince of Crows is fucking peak
Dunno which book it is from but youll find the excerpts of him kicking Lorgars shit in on reddit. Always a pleasure reading that.
I love when baddies get pummeled
Every single wordbearer deserves death by immolation
Even Narek?
Why, for bringing people to the cool side?
People have to thank the WB for the Heresy existing
Halfstartes
Let alone chaos factions!
Smdh
His face and claws got fucked by Lorgar
Midstartes. Backstabbing, drooling ass chaos grandpa...
That's not exactly how it went
He went after erebus cause erebus killed his homie
Yet he still made him run away. Again
That’s exactly how it went
Lorgar tells Khârn erebus did it
Because Erebus betrayed the gods
How would Khârn now Erebus did it otherwise
Lul
You do know he didn’t run
Yes and that why he was mad, not because he betrayed the gods
GET. UP.
Because he killed argel tal
Lorgar didn't care for tal that much
He stood and fought despite the fact Corax was prophesied to kill him
He did
Erebus did
Hence the ass whooping
That followed
Argel was his most beloved son atp
He saw chaos like Lorgar did
Meant kharn
Grim necessity and truth
I always thought more of it being hes closer son but he was already more indifferent to shit cause chaos
Yeah, because he had to lest he lose his entire legion to lorgar in the warp. Or do you think there is a single dark apostle strong enough to stop corvus?
Wdym?
From the last part in Betrayer he’s genuinely upset
He always felt guilty for letting Ingethel take Argel
The Gal Vorbak were sacrificing themselves to try to kill Corax, and Lorgar stood between them and Corax, he may have intended to sacrifice himself
He had been repeatedly warned atp to not fight Corax as it was the one fight fate wouldn’t let him win
She was, but Argel did not have fun to say the least
As for the 2nd time Corax and Lorgar fought, he stood between Kalta Ar and the rest of the men to fight Corax on his own
i finally started the last book in the night lords omnibus
it has a very different tone than the rest
so far at least
also i think it does a good job at trying to explain curze's reasoning behind his death
the idea that he killed himself to prove a point about humanity being irredeemable
and i think the book also acknowledges how little sense that makes. it's not a good philosophy
Yeah in his Primarch book you get the idea Talos was close to the truth
And either way Curze is a complete madman by Tsagualsa so yeah
His philosophy which was already nuts degenerated into pure insanity
what i don't understand is who the skeleton was that was talking to talos at the start of the book during his month long blackout. it speaks to him with a strange amount of grounded reality about talos's worldview and straight up tells him he's a terrible person
It was their attached Librarian
Remember ol Ruven
In the end Talos even calls him by name
Sorcerer
He wasn’t a librarian first
Oh snap
He was just a dude in one of the flashbacks
Strange
I'm really having a rough time with elemental council I'm only on chapter 5 and I'm totally lost, Im not super well versed on Tau but it throws so many characters at you in such rapid succession I have no idea where we're at or what we're doing
It seems like every half a chapter the book switches perspective
i finished book one of my re read of nl trilogy and midway through book two im reminded how much the night lords are kinda morons, masters at misinterpreting their fathers message
it's almost comical
like theyre all cheering a recording of curze being like "fuck you all i hope you all die im gonna kill myself now"
im really valuing the comedic value of this re-read the night lords de aurafication is immaculate
chud lords really
Thats basically every 40k book
its something you kinda need to get used to
they gotta pad the 800 pages somehow
has anyone read dan abnetts new Hive book yet
^
i just assume once i see a book announced on games workshop, that everyone here has already read it via ebook
or atleast dilara and elitewolf
nah even on pre-orders you gotta wait for the ebook to release on the date
its pretty shitty
Wasn’t there a new ork book recently?
Sorry to hear that, it’s a very good book, but it’s basically telling like 8 characters stories at once
even i forgot, i think its Warlord of Warlords?
the Ghaz one, i thought it was a reprint of something lol
They’ve always been a legion of garbage as Curze put it
are his books worth pre ordering or should I just wait till they’re in stores
If you want them quick, yes. I'd reckon these will sell really well because people are hungry for original abnett stories
Ultramarines Omnibus
Or Nightbringer if you want to do one book at a time
so now that im soon to finish my nl trilogy re-read i wanna like not make my horus heresy mistake again
so if i am to read more of the chaos legions are there actually books worth a damn post heresy to enjoy
Lords of Silence is pretty decent
Bile trilogy
Storm of Iron
The Talon of Horus and it's sequel The Black Legion
that's about it I suppose
The Black Legion books are also by ADB, very good
Oh and the Solomon Akurra books are good too, I've not listened the second one yet but I've heard it's good too
Good list and I would add the word bearer omnibus to that
also highly recommend Mike Brooks' Alpha Legion books, they are great if you also want a break from your regular serious chaos novels, reading order would be:
- Renegades: Harrowmaster
- The Brightest and Best (Short)
- The Long Promise (Short)
- Ghost Legion
Reading the 2 shorts isnt mandatory but adds more to the ongoing main cast and the head honcho Solomon Akurra
look i read some fuckass shorts for the horus heresy
anything else is upwards in quality
Lmao trust me they are good, Brooks is a fun writer
How's Ghost Legion? I was unsure if I wanted to spend the time reading it
Anthony Reynolds is very good
I’d even add the shorts The Tallyman and Vox Dominus to cap off their arc
Is Ahriman’s series good? I’ve been on a Kson bent lately after Sixth Cult of the Denied and Rebirth
Ahriman series is super good but its a long haul of a journey, its like quite a few books beyond a quadrilogy
I’d say the KS/NL/WB shorts I’ve read have been good, so those are my recs if you feel masochistic
I think it’s a quintology now lol
Yeah I’m gonna try to get into at some point
As usual VERY fun book, its a bit on the smaller scale but its basically a rare showcase of Alpha Legion/Solomon's cabal of warbands trying to repel a meagre imperial crusade sent to destroy his new realm of sorts
A lot more campaign focused with the characters trying to adapt to the Imperium's crazy ass super-earth tactics, like Twice Dead's dilemma but less depressing, highly recommend
What warhammer books would you consider to be the grittiest war stories?
Death Rider prob
its basically All Quiet on Western Front with pinches of Black Comedy, another is 15 Hours, literally just guardsmen in a complete shithole with a depressing atmosphere
is that the krieg book where the author hated the current interpretation?
Yeah it is
extremely recommend
Oh yeah i think i'm gonna pick that up
wait wdym he hated the intepretation
the memes the jokes
the way they are treated in writing
ah
real
arent kriegers just penitent guys who are good at warfare because they wanna die
cause their planet is under some pennance or something
ive never actually read krieg lore in full i just know they hang out in armageddon a lot and are the blue ones
Yeah they served a guard as like repentance for the sins of the world
They are an effective siege regiment and they use their numbers to hit really hard with infantry shock assaults after bombardments
they do use trenches and stuff but like they have other tools
And do not use shovels
That's melee weapons unless necessary
they have bayonets !
why affix them if not to stab!
plus those monomolecular edges are sharp
Exactly but yeah they are an infantry siege regiment
That won't die nilly nilly
they are strategic and actually smart
Far beyond the interpretation fans like to slap on
i just sorta had it in my head as like dawn of war terms
bigger morale bar
not like they are dying willy nilly
Yeah they are hard to morally break and they will fight in a position unless you order them to retreat but wasteful deaths like that aren't good
the single dumbest thing they did in lore afaik is shelling a rebel hive city for a decade which was 5 years after the city surrendered and everything in the hive was dead
seems like a normal guard act though
thats a lot of shells to waste on empty buildings
and shells cost more than guardsmen
the more cost effective option would have been to shell the city into surrender, then send in the troops to kill them all
Don't
Lyons's books aren't very good
100% unbiased source
Its true, Lyons writes Krieg in the most boring way imaginable
hes been doing nothing but writing them for over a decade yet still cant do it lol
Making money writing trash. That's either heaven or hell depending on the person
I got to act 2 of Trazyn vs Orikan and Im thinking sbout trazyn playing warhammer with actual species
||Did he just imply he can steal the emperor||
Probably
I can’t think of one reason he couldn’t
Could probably pull some chronomantic bullshit and just snatch him while custodes are frozen
Or more likely
Just waltz in and grab it in typical flamboyant fashion
He probably has done that, I’d be surprised if he hasn’t
I'm writing a Warhammer book (it's fanfic let's be honest) if anyone is interested in reading my rough draft I'd be very appreciative. Feel free to DM me, I'm still working on it currently but I'll get back to you as soon as I get the first five chapters 100% finalized and how I want them in terms of storyboarding and setup, other than might still be some small changes depending on criticism. Please DM me if you're interested!
I've actually created an entire system via coding that essentially 3D maps every single environment that I go into through coded simulation I essentially have created an in depth ai audit system, it was about 700 pages of code I reduced that to 200 recently. I hope this is the kind of group that would be really good at helping me determine how well I did it in terms of translation to writing, any tips that I could use to make the world feel more 40K, as well as overall critiques on the narrative or pacing would be awesome and really appreciated.
I'll give you a brief little summary so you know what you're getting into. you'll follow the main protagonist and his crew of 10 including him, as they go from orphaned void born, born to live and die on the lower decks of the Iron Litany, and follow their journey to becoming legendary outlaws. But how long can peace be maintained in the universe where there is only war, and can Lazarus keep his family safe through hell after hell.
DM me of you want to read it! I'm quite proud. Currently working on a fully functional rough draft with all storyboarding that I needed and involved in there, I'll have a couple of people read it and see if I need to make any changes past that but, what you read I want to be essentially what's going to go into the book when it's finalized, and I'm still finishing up a couple chapters before I do that. I want to at least our chapter 5 done before I have people reading it, currently on chapter 3 and it shouldn't take me too much longer to finish, I already have the full story written out and storyboarded, but actually writing it out is a different beast, and it's hard to predict the workload.
I got Ciaphas Cain Vainglorious the other day
I've always liked the editor's notes from Amberly
Finished Dredge Runners, fucking loved all the vox adverts in between the chapters
I presume this is just an audio drama? A novella has to be prettu different in the end
gotcha
Universally praised, buy it
Very good buy it
By ADB? The first book turned me off from the rest
Excellent series, absolutely buy it
Is Lucius the Faultless Blade before or after the great rift?
Same question for The Embrace Of Pain
Ok thanks
This spacewolf looks really weird.
This feels like AI
I think it is
Horrid.
Its AI
How the average Space Wolf fan sees himself:
The fuckass sport team wolf stickers are sending me, though.
Just reached Act Four of the Infinite and the Divine
Ouuugh
What a book man
When the executioner had said that Serenade was going to undergo Exterminatus for an unknown reason and then the Genestealer that attacked Orikan escaped, I felt my stomach plummet
Those poor innocent imperials 😔
Also chad Zmelker with the ork-bone laspistol grips just not getting a prosthetic arm
I respect the aura farm
Same with the officer manning the Taurox in his dress whites
I really love how Rath makes all the factions that show up cool
The Imperials, Exodites, the Orkz, the GSC, even that little sprinkle of AdMech and Drukhari
Luv me Emprah
I mean honestly yeah, seranade was in the process of dying but all in all it was a pretty ok world.

As far as imperial worlds go it was pretty relaxed. Mfers had coffee and plays
^
No fun visiting slum sector seresucks IX
I mean there plenty of fun, like drugs hookers and blackjack
The image of Trazyn and Orikan attempting to do Obscura and look for hookers is funny
Come on orikan this is what the terrans call the good shit, I heard they watered this kush with the necrodermis of 36 ctan
Now I want a story about a drug dealer trying to do business while the arbites attempt to tithe his earnings
Hi! I'm writing a Warhammer book (it's fanfic let's be honest) if anyone is interested in reading my rough draft I'd be very appreciative. Feel free to DM me, I'm still working on it currently but I'll get back to you as soon as I get the first five chapters 100% finalized and how I want them in terms of storyboarding and setup, other than there might still be some small changes depending on criticism.
Lazarus was born in the lower arteries of a Voidship, the void shades, his crew of orphaned voidborn, live every day knowing the birthplace of 10 generations would also be their grave. Follow the crew as they go from void rats living in the wall to legendary bounty hunters. Will lazarus keep his friends safe in a universe that only knows war, or will the strings they can't see puppet them to doom.
I mainly looking here for people to check out the early drafts and see if they like the characters and how they feel about the narrative of so far, the more people that I can discuss the book with while I'm writing it the better.
Trying to make this airtight as possible is lore accurate as possible and I have quite a few plot threads I'm trying to set up. been storyboarding and writing Audit code for about a week that has helped keep everything on track, and have almost the whole book story boarded I just need to write it out and execute properly. I'm really exited to see how this comes out and I'm very proud of it. That doesn't mean you shouldn't be critical, I also want this airtight.
It's hard to say much about the characters or what they go through, as the mystery of it is supposed to be a large part of what keeps you reading, on top of the strong characters and how they interact with the world and the others around them. I Love Warhammer because it has a very complex moral system that I explore as a logical train through an emotional journey.
Hopefully this is enough of an explanation to get people interested, thanks for your time.
Please DM me if you're interested!
Finally getting back to the cain books after restarting then pausing halfway through book 1, already 2 bits that are good examples of why comedy aside i think they're great reflections of subtle lore
For one Cain is horrified by the idea of going to war against tau "technosorcery"
He thinks it would be even bloodier than the sabbat worlds despite the smaller scale and hes right
And then shortly after his internal monologue reveals it simply didnt occur to him that a regular urban area on a relatively recently colonized planet wouldn't have an underhive because hes only been in cities that do
Idk if its so much privilege as that hives can be battlefields in this case
I have to imagine combat in a traditionally urban area is actually really rare for the imperium
Im mostly just glad an imperial went "holy fuck i don't like what those blue guys do with blinking lights"
I think in a meta sense that makes him the wisest commander in that whole region of space
Thinking further his alleged cowardice means hes immune to the #1 trait of imperial command which is infinite arrogance
Other commissars have full fortresses for theirs i hear
Its mostly because Cain is suppose to be a semi-self aware comedy series, people like ADB basically said its not really something you are suppose to take seriously or consider as accurate representation of stuff in 40k
Yeah also true hes kinda got that pulp media thing where stuff goes right for him just because
Yeah it feels different because this was back in an era where all 40k authors were dead-hard serious about 40k mateiral.
"My gf (yes shes an inquisitor)..." the start of a legendary far future social media post
Nowadays we got some other books that elevate the super grim tone with more comedic stuff
Yeah i think back then they never really leaned into the historically demonstrable fact that people in hellish conditions become funny
Essentially yep, its why books like Brooks ork novels and Rath's trazyn stuff grabbed the fandom by storm because they were just so different tonally.
Now due to that Cain has kinda been entirely sidelined as a mid-2000's 40k character and is just a "oh yeah that meme commissar" dude now lol
For that i really blame the formulaic nature of the series
I think people would care more if like... there was a reason to
Holy shit though GW you are missing a gigantic opportunity if General Sulla isnt fighting in the 500 worlds
Man yeah its one of the reasons I kinda grew to despise the series
every single book is the exact same thing, its kind of insane how much the author gets away with this lol
You've never experienced the horror of chinese pulp fantasy
I like it conceptually but holy shit basically every genre trope sucks
running from someone who wants something you have
get away / trick them / get help
grow stronger and defeat them
immediately chased by someone slightly stronger than the last one
Repeat until the character gets too strong and ascends to a new realm where they're mid tier at best again
End novel after 2500 chapters
And the fans are slopsuckers just like a lot of 40k fans i don't think ive seen a rating below 40% on the site i use
<70% i won't even look
That image is the cover for some shitty sci-fi book
500 shitty wuxia novels
I only read xianxia which is kinda like the high fantasy cousin but yeah
Xianxia protagonists usually have more of a moral compass than wuxia ones among other things though lol
Anybody else get their Hive preorders in today before they sold out?
I’m buying digital

I was planning to get physical lmao
Big rip
Welp back to digital
4 sold 😭
yer fuck that shit
i didnt even log in
pisses me off that ppl actually buy from these creeps
(scalpers not GW~)
Yeah who has 226$ to throw at a 65$ book like what
yeah they need to get a grip
actual drug addict behavior 😭
It's just plastic surrounding paper, dawg--
The audacity!
And with GW's recent QC issues, it might not even be that 😪
Kill all scalpers
Semi-recently had a patient I needed to bring over to the OR.
Sweetest gal.
Brought her back to her room after her amputation.
The reason why she needed the arm removed?
She was trying to sell Pokémon cards. Some scalper scumbag took a blowtorch to her arm. Her arm was burnt so bad that it had to go.
None of you hate scalpers enough.
If only.
It's just Vegas behavior.
Such a civilized land.
So does anyone else think Hive might be an amalgamation of the story ideas that Dan Abnett originally had for Darktide? You know, before they relegated him to just writing the dialogue?
the synopsis just seems to be remarkably similar to the base assumptions about Tertium
This idea ironically has been passed around quite a bit but i very much doubt it. Planetary rebellions are constant in 40k and this is likely a coincidence, Abnett also has incredible amount of clout in BL and just does what he wants largely so i think this is an original story.
I WILL say however it will prob have some goofy ass twist chaos ending tying it to Eisenhorn, thats my only 2 bucks bet lmao
I will be shocked if it doesn’t
Abnett's involvement in Darktide is ironically not that much because they very obviously just brought him in for background lore and let him go.
Just like with Vermintide 1 and Vermintide 2 its Matt Ward thats been doing all the heavylifting for four years now.
(And hes still actively helping with the lore, banter and other stuff lol)
The yapping
peak yapping, bro has a serious talent
Ngl I do prefer vt1’s dialogue variety to VT2’s slightly
But VT2 has way more
Except I keep on hearing about poggers bridge
Darktide is also a marvel, it had like 7 BL writers for it but Ward is still keeping it going with the DLC characters voicelines and banters as well
the two part nature of it is the only thing that really gives me pause, he's so prolific, it's like he just had this sitting around extraneously, and it wouldn't surprise me if the fews years since darktide's release allowed for him to expand what he orginally was planning, and pivot that into another novel, or two lol. Idk, im very much looking forward to reading it.
Honestly
I’m ngl
I kind of wish Fatshark didn’t do build a character
But fucking whatever lol
Nah its 100% original, Abnett is way too much of a boomer to care about stuff relegating Darktide
as me and Elite guessed its absolutely gonna tie into eisenhorn
Abnett has not made an original story ever that isnt Sabbat Worlds or Eisenhorn
like every book he has made in the last 30 years lol
I’m all in on eisenhorn
which is why it wouldnt be so far fetched that he took his darktide ideas and put it into this
I doubt it tbh
Darktide's planet plot isnt that complex
okay well it kinda is but it all came after Abnett lol
Ward did like basically everything we know rn
We'll see, i bet Hive ends up having some fairly analogous plot points, but that's just me.
Im all in on the Eisenhorn show finally releasing and ending so we can then get the release of Pandemonium.
Also, John Noble for Uber Aemos.
Rami Malek for Teke
speaking of which, is Hive a sabbat worlds one?
We literally do not know
thats what we were saying last night about it, its likely either Sabbat or Eisenhorn because Abnett has not done a single original novel in modern 40k that isnt tied to his series'
Its why im betting 2 bucks its just gonna be like
mostly an original story, then a eisenhorn character is gonna show up at the end and say an MCU one-liner
i really fuckin hope not
but then it is in this weird 2-part format so id expect some shenanigans
Yeah uh I got bad news
he did this exact thing in his Siege novels lol
like... where just some Cognitae characters just show up out of nowhere???
Its so fucking funny too
siege is so much more sloppy than what i hope hive is
"Hey whats your name?"
"Its...........Lilean Chase."
DUN DUN DUUUUUUN
i want gritty hive not sloppy hive
I was like huh?
hive should be self-contained cause thats what a hive is
Lmao im hoping so but its Abnett
hes a marvel writer, he cannot resist his crossovers
im gonna bet that this is some setup for Pandaemonium at like the last few pages
he has never written a self-contained story for the last 30 years lol
Brothers of the snake was pretty self contained
though later brought a single marine from that chapter to a Ravenor book
thats just an outlier marine novel
meanwhile his other Iron Snakes novels both take place on the sabbat worlds
This works too
The final line of hive:
"And then many systems away alzibeth bequin woke up from a very long nap"
Like all the MCU fans when crossovering...?
Abnett used to/sometimes writes for Marvel comics..............
Yeah thats the joke
You said you were gonna scream if Abnett pulled a MCU crossover thing and I joked about MCU fans screaming over pointless crossovers
Smh
The Lion will return.... in Avengers Doomsday....
Rogal Dorn will return... in Avengers Doomsday... with his fist... his Imperial Fist...
Can’t believe that comes from the same story where we find out the person he’s most afraid of in the whole universe
Is some loon with batwings
if by sometimes writes for marvel u mean a lot
dan abnett is something like the 3rd most published comic author of all time
like genuinely
its crazy that he has like 2 full careers
that are kind of separate
Yeah he has like an entire life of this stuff outside of 40k
guy has been around writing shit for like 2000AD
i was jumpscared once seeing his name as one of the writers on Alien Isolation lol
i think he was with Marvel UK since basically the start
Yeah hes a proper industry veteran
Dan Abnett out there doing random side quests, writing shit that just slightly interests him
And I'm all here for it, call me a chud but I love the mans writing
His writing is good when it isnt imperial slopaganda
Watch him write the Iron Dome and make it a Imperial Fist honorable sacrifice instead of them blindly falling into a trap and getting almost extinct because Rogal Dorn is a lobotomite
its not gonna be him but whatever author writes it will absolutely do that and make it some dramatic ahh last stand as the IW gun them down
the HH books love wanking IF lol
Something like Rogal knew and didn’t care coz he was too angry to
Hope they don’t retcon that
Please no
After doing some digging it might because they used to be the old-poster boys? There used to be a big period where Alexis Pollum(? Idk how to write his name) had the title of Regent of the Imperium right until Guilliman woke up and took it back to himself
I’d love to see the IF honourably charge fortifications to their deaths
Crimson Fists used to be iirc
They probably will, tbh
Alexis Pollux, the Crimson Fist, was their Founding Chapter Master
Gonna make him cold logistical cunt they want him to be
And he was fucking huge, and also top 10 marine naval commander
So far Wraight has kept the rage on track in AotI at least
Please gods of chaos give it to MacNeill or smth
nah its just author favoritism
the loyalists in HH are solely heroes because the authors just love doing that shit instead of throwing some greyness to them
its why most of Siege is just Le Epic last stands and other nonsense
I mean I kinda dig the epic last stand the Siege has because its the "golden era of the Imperium" falling
I guess it defo is gonna be an epic last stand
But a lot is written with loyalist favouritism
Like le epic Sigismund stab Fulgrim and not die

I hope they don't because it would be better to make the Great Scouring be bleak and filled with bitterness in all sides after the fucked event of the Siege of Terra
I mean he already was but like even more
That’s what Wraight seems to be trying
And I hope he keeps it thataway
as DG fans have said Mortarion is like a different character in every appearance
guy goes from honorable evil bastrd to "MUAHAHA ILL TURN YOU INTO A ZOMBIE GAROU"
like okay man you do you lmao
he is
I am sort of one
And yeah he just
Like authors have to write over each other to just try to keep him one character
His worst appearance is the one in ||Chaosgate||
Wraight and Haley overwriting Swallow and MacNeill
MacNeill overwriting Swallow
Annandale overwriting everyone iirc
Yeah and its very obvious even tho they advertise it oppositely that no author checks in with the other that much over the characterisation of these things lmao
They didn’t even try
MUAHAHHAHA KADEX IM FUCKING EVIL
Siege is prob the most obvious one where they make it sound like ist a collaborative effort when every book contradicts the previous one

This has done damage to so many characters, biggest ones are Emps and Mortarion
the best part of that whole thing was it came out during the Morbius meme-craze so when Mortarion said "THE MORBUS IS AT HAND" I was clapping my hands like crazy

2nd worst would be in Vengeful Spirit where he just kills his kids like it’s nothing (despite the fact it’s like the one redeeming thing that he loves them), at least Wraight overwrote that
Who wrote Chaos Gate😢
Did Jaghatai Khan write it or smth
ADB

Mortarions entire reputation has been ruined by both inconsistent writers and memelore
Now only see him as a edgy teenager who doesn't stop complaining instead of the actual powerful figure he is
I guess we know who his least favourite Primarch is
Dont forget hes also the traitor primarch with the biggest lose-streak
he has lost like 6-8 times
😭
Every time he’s killed another Primarch said Primarch has returned to life by Deus Ex Machina
He defeated daemon peter turbo 🙂
i think that's all
Remember when Ward wrote him getting banished like a chump, and then Haley had to go rewrite everything in that one Audio Drama
Be born in a planet where resilience is your biggest thing, make your legion have the same opinion where tanking over damage is sign of superiority
Be the biggest loser of all your brothers
He killed khan and Guilliman
they both got deus ex'd and clapped him
Then both times the emperor literally does that
I know he was somewhat nicer to Morty among some of the other traitors
But like what the fuck dude
I lowkey would be totally fine if they retconned Mortarions entire existence atp, bro is the Invincible of 40k
Washed ass primarch
He’s literally going from Doomed Liberator to Loser Asshat and back and forth several times in the same series
But DG fans would kill you because his highs have been pretty high for them
And unlike all the others he possibly probably still actually loves his kids
This comes to show love is weakness
The more you love your legion, the weaker you are and more prone to failure
Iron Warrior sweep

Mark goes up against people way more stronger than him and still survives and kicks their ass later tho, thats the entire ironic reason why his name is Invincible
Morty just loses
and like... thats it lol
I HAVE RISEN TO POWER UNSEEN BY MANKIND
PERISH, YOU WEAK-
He loses because GW hates him
that too
At least Mortarion’s Heart made it easier to stomach
He kills the predecessor in one little flesh wound and he almost killed Draigo
Still hate it
He's like the Baki side characters
First arc theyre powerful as fuck until Baki wins against them. Next arc they show up to get defeated by the new big main villain to show how powerful he is
this story is horrible
should be erased
I think it came from the GK Codex in uh
5E?
At least Haley doesn’t hate Mortarion as much as Ward and made a little easier to stomach
I think kaldor draigo being able to carve legible text with an extended sword is kinda like a super power
Unless his force weapon let him disney channel it
how is ashes of the imperium?
Pretty good/ok id say
It’s good
About to start David Annadale's Apostle, anybody else read it yet?
Mildly enjoyed it, has some really fun moments
I'm hopeful, Annandale does Chaos really well
His WB have always been fine and he’s delivered alright worbles yet again imo
Its not a great book but still a good read yeah
the ending is extremely eh but otherwise okay
Sequelbaiting
It’s like
I feel like we aren’t getting any sequels for this save maybe some short story but they keep doing it
yeah 40k books barely get sequels unless its popular lol
depends a lot on author clout as well
Even for the clout authors it’s like uhhhh
Wraight and ADB are never finishing Watchers and Black Legion coz of workload sadly
Apostle was popular among WB fans but ain’t no way it’s popular enough to mandate a sequel💔
😭
Also yeah those guys CANNOT lock in
🥀
like its been so long that at this point its become "why even continue the series anymore"
Watchers imo is on life support but yea Black Legion had its funeral ages ago
yeah the moment you take so long that the Horus Heresy has finished its time to take some recollections i think lmao
any HH books that have a prominent blackshield presence?
I want the third installment of Watchers of the Throne so fucking bad
The novella Blackshield
Someday…
they were literally the first two books I read on digital because I could not procure copies to save my life.
I'd love watchers three
it'll have insanely indepth gore

As her novels tend to have
I do not need to read about the fat leaking out of someones shattered fucking arm
Lmao i just wish she wrote good novels, its insane how many novels she vomits out but they are the most formulaic shit ever
yeah
Litteral who?
Trauma surgeon who also writes 40k books
I’m deadass that’s her actual job
She’s a fucking trauma surgeon lol
Just look up her works and it's all ??? titles or mid stuff
Like Dilara posted: Always bet on mid
Is it a weird case of self insert 🤔
No, she just gets really detailed with injuries and the aftermath of it lol
Like I do not need to read about the yellowish fat leaking from someone’s fucking disemboweled body thanks lol
Weakling
saying this like thats a problem with her novels
i need her to write an actually good book first
lmao
She undoubtedly takes pics of injuries on her personal phone.
Giggling and shitting her way down the OR halls.
Everyone on the floor is perfectly sane and respectful of patients.
the way i'm hearing about her she seems to be the Michael Bay of black library
Except replace the explosions with gore
Currently reading halfway through the fall of cadia.
Creed is such a sassy pants
Gives regimental confessor a gun and shoo's him onto the wall
hes basically 40k Churchill its great lol
He even has his alcoholism
And his aide needs to drug him in order for him to get to sleep
Churchill found the STC to make the Churchill tank
Every doctor i know does this for anything "interesting" lmao
Ive seen some "interesting" xrays on discord
cadia falls
how can cadia stand? it doesn't even have legs
something something cadians cadia 10000 cadians everywhere or something
overused award
Chem Dogs superior regiment
Im wondering if I should start Ravenor or Gaunt's Ghosts
Ravenor
G.Ghost is like 10+ books long lol
and its still technically "ongoing" for like the last 20 years now
If you're going to read ghosts break it up by omnibus or you'll burn out lol
The novels are different from each other though its got that over cain
I liked the first cain book a lot but i dont know if i could just read basically the same type of story over and over
thats what i've heard the cain series is like at least
They are all the same. I recommend spacing out the books and reading something else between them
His best are the short stories
I use Cain books as palate cleansers
You read one after reading a lot of other shit and then you forget about him for a long while
Honestly decent use
Would take forever to get through them all but that's not the point
40k as presented by most sources
40k as presented by the cain novels
eggman
I'd say Ravenor.
Get the Omnibus and boom that's it.
Only downside is, the Bequin novels (the continuation/conclusion to Dan Abnett's Inquisition series) is hard to get.
Physically atleast.
So many scalpers selling Pariah.
Just wait a few years for the last bequin novel to be release then either they dona reprint run of the first novels or they print the bequin omnibus
That shit is getting sold out Hour 1
You lost me at just wait a few years
The bequin book is finished as far as we know it just needs to be approved.
Chris wraight, release watches of the throne book three and my life is yours!!!!!
I wonder what that would be about
I enjoyed the first two, especially the second one
I'd imagine it'd be about valerian hunting down threats to the throne world that are off world.
He does have the splintered still to hunt rements down from
But I doubt that'd be the plot of the whole book.
Probably be what he's doing in the prologue
Yeah GW is holding it off for marketing/commercial reasons is the only guess we got
as Abnett basically says its out of his hands which makes it connect entirely to GW, as Joseph said we know the book is done at least
Bro you just got two Eldar refreshes in a single edition
Dark Eldars turn
Lol
Is that technology connections
It is
I feel like he'd be a reclaimator or something.
Is there any other name for tech priests who have a thing for hunting old technology
Because he made the most interesting video about an old fridge
What are good books on admech
I swear to god i'll read all these books..
Peak
Immediate buy when it comes out
🫡
She's so jaded
Finished 15 Hours yesterday, what an excellent book. But it just goes to show how illiterate the average 40k fan is, the 15 hours average doesn't apply to all guardsmen across the imperium like so many people like to say, like what the hell? It's so obviously just for that singular theater and after more than a decade of a stalemate
Hi everyone, this might be a long shot, but I’m looking for the paperback or hardcover edition of Rites of Passage by Mike Brooks 👀 If anyone has a copy they’re looking to get ride of or sell, please don’t hesitate to let me know (I'm in Australia and it's out of stock everywhere around here 🥲 )
I've just realised that 🥲 until now I had always borrowed the 40k novels from friends or bought the ebook versions, so I didn’t expect it to be such a struggle to get my hands on, and actually buy, a physical copy 💀
they do reprints on some books every now and then but it's not a given
You might get lucky finds in a resale shop, I hit the holy grail and found a hardback copy of Honourbound in Cashies
But yea finding out of print Warhammer novels is hens teeth
Big yay
Extreme yay
its Robert Rath so an instant W but the novel itself is very fun and a great read
Yeah the book is very good in that regard, its very rompy and filled with dark comedy which i liked more lol
The ending battle is just fantastic
I’ve had a hard time finding a warhammer book that moves me quite like galaxy in flames did
That's one of the best books
Bet, thanks lads.
Feeling fantabulous. The wait is over. :D
On one hand kickass product but on the other hand thats prob one of the worst HH stuff ive ever read

Yeah and it will look good on a bookshelf
My crowning end book to my Horus Heresy collection.
yeah exactly lol
Now I just need the other 32
Another day another Dollar, knowwhatimean?
Yes
Holy fuck I thought you meant yet another philosophy book
Good shit
Finally finished the Infinite and the Divine
Peak
Actually teared up a little at ||the Exodite Eldar and the farseer returning in the final fight||
The Epilogue is dogshit though
Five pages and feels so tacked-on
ciaphias cain is so silly
💀
"probably" is crazy 💀
smug khornate
Is there a read order to warhammer crime or is every novel standalone?
KIND OF but its not that crucial, basically with each novel/anthology they released you can sometimes go "Oh hey its that guy from that one story!"
They are all very much largely stand-alone
😩Deathstorm and Shadow of the leviathan were so boring. I really enjoyed The Last Days of Ector
I'm sorry Josh Reynolds
At least Guy Haley hasn't let me down
Right now I'm starting to read the Gildar Rift
Interesting start, Correlan is by far my favorite
Need to sit down and finally start the Grotsnik book since I heard very good things about it.
Book centered around the Orks? I'm opening the wallet every time.
Correlan the snarky tech-marine was, and always will be, my very favourite creation.
I appreciate you writing him because he'sd LITERALLY ME
He may or may not be very reflective of my personality also. 😄
yeah it has a surprising amount of depth too for orks, going into themes of purpose and identity
You wrote Gildar Rift? That was unironically the first 40k book I ever read, found it by accident at my local book store back when it first came out
Its been all downhill from there
I did!
Loved it, i still have it around somewhere
Thank you, I appreciate it 🙂

Vin diesel is huron
