I'll say what I like about warhammer instead. I love that people love this setting and specially their favorite factions. I love to see the care that people put in painting their minis, wriring stories, drawing, analysing all these books and so much more. (The ai voices shorts are a plague tho)

Its difficult to give space marines decent depth and varied stories. They kinda lack the human struggle and human individual element, since both are actually midigated/taken out of them to turn them into basically biological killer robots.
Now, looking to the Night Lords trillogy, it is possible to write good or even very good space marines. But it needs a good setup and unique theme or it turns into the same old bolter porn very fast (dont get me wrong, i love bolterporn). However, majority of people like intricate stories with deep and varied themes and relatable characters. Hard to do when your only purpose is a gene modified killing machine that has most of its humanity drilled out of them.
Actually, the interactions between space marines and human elements of the Imperium are probably what makes reading about the inhumanness of the space marines so interesting.
Like the black templar dude (racej i think?) thats supposed to guard Felix the historitor? Those two are utterly hilarious together.
