oh cool scroll
i love how discord tells you when you're scrolled up except when it doesnt
where the hell was i even scrolled to it was above my last message here
Pretty late because I was reading Jurassic Park the last few weeks but Era of Ruin is mid.
Patiently waiting for the Grammaticus trilogy.
one of the most "why is this a thing" books ive read i think
they did a great job picking the most nonsensical subjects to make Shorts lol
Goddamn I finished anarch and boy was that a ride. Have to sleep now it’s like 4 am and I have work tomorrow lmao
If I had a nickel for every time Erebus kills a named character I'd have enough money to buy a Primarch model.
It's so redundant at this point.
120 named characters
Amazing
Narek's short was such a fucking weird inclusion ngl i enjoyed the Erebus cameo because it at least made it ALMOST memorable lol
I was happy see him even if it was just for him to get stabbed.
Erebus jumpscare.
Narek's story was a bit odd inclusion but I guess it makes sense in a way because otherwise his story would've never been concluded otherwise I guess. But how many people really even remembered he existed
the rest of the stories ranged from ok to great imo
I loved ADB's story
and of course Wraight's Homebound
"a bit" is really overdoing it
it was literally the most unnecessary one in there
Gav's was probably the one I hated the most.
Was it the obliterator virus one
Yeah that one.
It was like... why is this here, again.
It doesnt explore anything like the landing of the actual legions on Terra for aid or anything just "oh we gotta clear the goonliterator virus from the lion's gate port and oh no everyone mostly dies" like... okay
only valid tie in is that they had to do that for the helping forces to be able to land properly but still it's not really anything interesting
"And then a continent fell on terra... and then another continent... and then another continent"
LOL
also yeah what Jerk said it was such a weird thing
I literally only liked Katsuhiro and that White Scars lady story
otherwise it felt like such a waste of Shorts
The siege of terra should have gone "and then a continent fell on terra and it took 5 years for the resulting ash and dust to settle enough to resume landings"
I guess you can drop pod through the meteor winter
Good luck going up
the funniest part to me is that because terra is a complete hive there's probably NO evidence remaining of any of the orbital attacks
Well KIND of, the full hive city formation happened like later
it still had some actual empty lands and such
but as you say by now its 100% completely covered
yeah but they would have had to patch over the giant craters in the process
Lmao yeah
😦 he’s ok he’s like a mascot
And he’s a good lore keeper
or well probably fill them with underhive lol
I actually wrote a short once of a terran character
where she lives in like a "pit" hab
i imagine its not easy to actually find the ground on terra
and the reveal was its one of the original craters from orbital bombing nobody remembers from the Siege lol
the only remaining one is around the palace perimeter yea
Ya my appreciation 4 this mid story collection was artificially inflated bc I was in a period where I kept tearing up at every story. 😐
But mostly this one
i actually dont know what kind of crater you get from something that large but relatively slow moving
historical catastrophic impacts have been, well, a whole lot less massive
it would depend on the explosion-radius thing i guess
also sci-fi so kinda hard to debate without a scientist
i could do some back of the envelopes with some data but i'd have to dig it all up
i studied craters in an astronomy course
lmao nice
though a counfounding factor theres never even been a reason to study is what happens when the impactor is that WIDE
usually weird liquefaction stuff happens and the crater kinda splashes
but if the impactor is a rectangular prism 1km thick and 100km to a side??
the only deep stuff ive seen 40k sometimes get into is the "hotness" of like some ship weapons they use turning sandy parts of a planet or whatever into glass which Halo also did
otherwise i dont really think ive ever read a book that goes into the scientific aspects of orbital bombardment
it takes about 1.4MJ to melt a kilo of sand
i had to go find someone who'd already checked the enthalpy of fusion for me lol
did we ever even get sizes for the orbital plates
they're described as "floating continents" but, i mean
also i forgot that in the current canon modern terra has 0 plates i dont remember if that was a retcon or im remembering something that was set in the heresy
Well, technically the hottest explosions in 40k is whenever a ship-plasmadrive or a warpdrive gooes poof. Literally described as mini supernova
Btw has something like that happened planetside before?
people have done all sorts of horrible stuff to planets in 40k
didn't Khayon yeet a battle ship to a surface of a planet which then went big boom
shattering cadia was probably the most energetic event caused by creatures in the setting
crashing a whole blackstone fortress into it pushed by a bunch of ships then blowing it up
the hottest thing in the 40k universe is probably still an AGN
I know talos shot a minor cyclonic Torpedo into a moon or Asteroid to i think destroy a ship
Musthave been a big boom too
Battlefleet gothic had abaddon flying around in a Death Star Star destroyer for a while then everyone kinda forgot
Havent read anything about the dusty booknerds yet
He's in the Black Legion books
very good books, wonder if we'll ever get the third
chaos has so many goofy ships lol
Yes but we love em bc one features in the PEAK Warhammer novel
Everyone’s favorite
Battle
for
the
Abyss
Best book ever written
i dunno what the actual biggest bomb in 40k is most of the superweapons are chain reaction type deals
cyclonic torpedos perpetuate through the atmosphere, a number of archaotech devices make planets break up by messing with physics, etc
it seems like it might still be fusion bombs
which does kinda make sense
yeah dont put DAOT tech into account
since they work on the rule of "whatever the author/writer can make up for said narrative"
i would if they were actually bombs but its not like they ever explode themselves to work
they're doohickey what makes the planet explode when you pull the lever
ok the biggest bomb is probably this naval MIRV that's 5x112 GIGATONS
the real life combined nuclear arsenal has never exceeded single digit gigatons
Biggest is probably a cyclonic torpedo
Based on the descriptions those don't really work like bombs and more set the planet on fire with its own fuel
And you wouldnt need all the nukes ever built 100 times over to do it lol
That naval missile is a "scifi writers have no sense of scale" number
Based extinction event bomb
NO THERE IS A FULLY WORKED OUT INTERNALLY CONSISTENT PHYSICS-BASED-
Its honestly like child coming up with numbers type numbers
"My bomb is like 5 billion tons of tnt. And there's a hundred of them. Plus twelve."
The silent king is actually pretty good so far.
Macinus being pestered constantly to get drunk is funny to me
Also cawl being cawl
@tall phoenix it's happening
@safe plover
Get ready for more HH Books
it looks like you're about to get back to work
NO
NO
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
multi author multi book megaseries
also jokes aside
i got no idea why people were like
"Naw GW said they arent doing the Scouring"
what are you, fucking stupid?

cant wait for 5 more years until they release a short story thats actually after the siege
SILENCE
i have listened to the books which is more than 99% of this discord
i tried reading cain but it was slop ok?
no
technically all the other books happen after the siege
🙂
🚬
God please be shorter
they called it a mega serise
like dawn of fire
and siege of terra
right
RIGHT GUYS
I CAN'T DO THIS AGAIN
I can
Im gonna laugh if it ends up being the same like DoF too
aka literally a nothing burger minus some highlight ala Iron Cage. What fuckign battles are there to even give a shit about in the Scouring, they need to make up so much stuff up
NO
make it worse
longer
and make it not chronological
make every writer write exactly .4 of a book
It’s literally just the iron cage and chaos infighting
Can't wait for the 12 book series focusing on the Iron Cage
Eh, i see this series as a succes. For my little Brother that is. He hates searching for Christmas/Birthday gifts so i'll just hand him the scouring series and get two per year, one in Oktober for bd and one in December for Xmas.
For several years If that is a big series
As long as they make sense while making it up.
Also, when did dorn go mia? If he disappeared during the scouring they could make a connection to his inevitable revival (since they will bring back all (or most) primarchs eventually

Already pre-ordered my next book of interest
more slop for clad to review to the dismay of everybody
a whole rule book campaign even
now, you read something good 🙏 😔
🙄

Wat u 2? I thought u liked gg
I do but I cannot pass up any moment to be a hater

Based
Read assassinorm kingmaker if you havnt
She lives to hate.
Soooo I'm a bit confused about silent kings placement in the timeline
Because it seems like it takes place before gene father but also not
And like it's not two authors miscommunication about timeline because both books are from guy haley
Timeline of The Galaxy:
Ancient history
M1 - Age of Terra (also called the Golden Age) begins.[3]
M2
M3
M4
M5
M6
M7
M8
M9
M10
M11
M12
M13
M14
M15 - Age of Terra ends, Dark Age of Technology begins.[1]
M16
M17
…
Its a bit of both.
Take a look at M41 and M42
its very much a clusterfuck, and most people dont even realise ALL of this is pre-Plague Wars
Seriously????
Dawn of Fire is the Indomitus Crusade series, which is before plague wars, yes
^
its very very badly explained
I legit gotta commend the fans that try to make sense of this shit
When I write my story I'm gonna redact the fucking date
Yeah lexi-users try to make as much sense as possible from given dates, even when they shift or move/get edited by future GW material, its a clusterfuck
It's pretty funny when you read the Plague Wars and it feels like nothing happens for most of it. What a mess.
Gulliman spent a long time just going planet to planet
Doesn't the Arks of Omen start before the Plague Wars too?
Hold on
I always get those two mixed up. If we go by that article then it does.
- Arks of Omen is given as "Early M42"
Plague Wars is Circa 012.M42
GW really crams all these events way back in the timeline so it gets extremely confusing
M41 999 being a text wall
The Lion just cruising for some Fallen cheeks while Girlyman has to fend off against Morty is so fucking funny to me.
thats the funniest one because for like 20 IRL years that was the timeline we were stuck on, so its absolutely packed
He legit goes around like hes fucking Arthur Morgan
Sidequest
Sidequest
Sidequest
Sidequest
Sidequest
EVERY. TIME.
Like even in this book hes talking about planet-hopping to another location like ffs SIT STILL
Bro is just galavanting.
You'll get more a Lion in the twelve part arc when he drives his Rari back to Caliban.
Circa 2055
I already read arks of omen
Nah nah, this is the prequel.
Classic guy haley making a random human in a terrible situation only to die in a horrific way
It doesn’t
It happens after plague wars
It chronologically happens after the other warzone/crusade books
We had a warzone book for plague war in 8e
8 years ago already yea
yeah it was like 15 years ago
Time is the fire in which we all burn
was dawn of fire m42
M42
what is the latest stories
as in
which series takes part m42 and later
is bequin around there
No idea, they are stuck in their own timeline rn
OH, cain is around there
Yeah the author prob had no idea what was even gonna happen in M42 in like 10 years lol
i would so be down for nothing but stories to keep coming out past the latest century to make new content
it's like star wars for me
i don't care about the same timeline being revisited
give me future stuff
i'm tired of hearing about skywalkers
if anything, give us old republic
the dawning of the jedi era
Though i would like a series about ullanor campaign
that could be fun
all the primarchs being loyalist
seeing how well they get along
(when they do)
It was how it was before Gathering Storm yeah
if you look at M40/41 its filled with fluff on that timeline page
nowadays its just packed with weird side stuff
I have just picked up Dark Imperium Godblight, and I asked the Warhammer store worker which book should I read next to get caught up to current events, he said Avenging Son and that 10 book series, but google says The Devastation of Baal. What is next?
Devastation of Baal takes place before and during the opening of the Great Rift, its like the big climactic part of the battle when they are about to get wiped out by Nids.
as for the Indomitus books eurghhh hold on
Avenging Son is a novel by Guy Haley, and is the first novel in the Dawn of Fire series.[1]
Follow this on lexi as your guide but DO NOT listen to that shopkeep, you do not have to read all 10+ book series of Dawn of Fire, its a very bookbait series and some of the novels have NOTHING to do with the Indomitus Crusade.
If you got questions on the quality/which ones to read just ask them here
Ah okay so he's just trying to get me to buy more lol So follow what is says on Lexi gotcha thank you
Lmao yeah basically. Their job is to make you buy more stuff, just read the lexi + look at what interests you and buy those instead, no worries.
Dawn of Fire unfortunately suffers from having a lot of mediocre books, it just completed itself a few days ago with the release of the last book in the series after like 5 years since its launch on 2020.
I have not long started reading the books, so I started on this Dark imperium series as I was told its a good starting point. The plan is to get caught up to current events, than just pick books out I enjoy the sound of or have good ratings etc
I tortured myself with dawn of fire.
Do not read it
LMAO DUDE
Find a different store
Jkjk
Yeah basically just pick the ones you wanna read and maybe ask here if they are good, again Dawn of Fire is like really subjective for a lot of the fanbase
its not that most of them are bad, its just mediocre
Current books that are good are the great work, gene father, watchers of the throne. lion son of the Forest
Most of us here don't enjoy the Dawn of Fire series. It's also like what, 10 books?
Wait but the Chris Wraight one is supposed to be good right
So that'll take some time and dedication you could spend on better series.
Ya and genefather is kinda mid + Lion is mid and also somehow reads like teen fiction
Its not even here is the thing, its a rare case where a lot of peopel agree its just a bad series.
Dawn of fire books worth reading are avenging son gate of bone, wolf time (personal opinion, many do not like it), throne of light, maybe hand of abbadon, and finally I've been enjoying silent king
Imagine waiting that long and only to find out most of the books in the series are mid.
5 years
Looks at HH.
LOL
Ya that’s the one
"Such an amazing and fun read. Shame it has nothing to do with the fucking Indomitus Crusade."

I skipped that one
I still need to check it out. Reading the Word Bearers trilogy rn.
U saw a Chris Wraight book & u skipped it?
Credits don't grow on trees
He did technically write Warhawk and I didn't care much for it. Automatically dead to me for life.
Wraight writes like a lot. Can't read them all.
Alright thanks guys, its given me a pretty good idea! ❤️
Don’t like Warhawk?! But how else will I get my 13 hours of Toby Longworth as Ming the Merciless
KEK
I love chris' writing but yeah it was one of the ones that got skipped just like iron kingdom
We try lmao
Warhawk is good but I do not give a shit about the Deathguard or White Scar wankery so even while I read it i ended up skimming by the end
Khagan this Khagan dad
Ordu this Ordu my mom
Khan this, Khan that, Khan deez nuts
JESUS SHUT UP
I GET IT, YOU READ THE MONGOL TERMINOLOGY PAGE

Begone thot
Lmao what is happening in here
Omfg
Idk bro I'm going crazy
Yes it’s tedious
Genuinely lol
but people like it so thats fine
i just didnt care too much about it, im more of a Echoes/Saturnine fan
LMFAO
Echoes was… what was echoes
I have a vague feeling it was good
But I don’t really remember it
Possibly it’s the effect of the lobotomy
Sanguinius wank fest.
Not 40k, but I'm reading Babel rn, it's the most autistic book I've ever read
It was pretty fucking awesome so it can be forgiven.
o I kno I kno and the HURR DURR HE BOWED TO THEM flashback
based
You read it for birdboy but stay for the World Eaters and Blood Angels lore dumps.
It starts with a foreword where the author says it's historical fiction and then lists every historical inaccuracy that is going to be in the book and that it was all a deliberate decision to enhance the story in some way rather than a mistake or oversight during their research.
and almost every page has a glossary at the bottom where they give context that a Victorian person would know of what was said or happened, that a modern person wouldn't necessarily know.
Self awareness is overrated
after the lost and the damned, i'm like
when it comes to haley...
I think his stuff lands more than it misses.
I like his more humorous books, maybe not so much the bolter porn ones.
Every 40k author sucks -this server
based & 40k-book-club pilled

abnett is best!!!
echoes is good and it's my first adb book
sandy mitchell and robert rath>>>
i will read denny flowers soon
Flowers is usually very good
y'all talked me into outgunned and above and beyond just released on paperback i think
heres the reading order just incase
the Shorts are a must-read!
That’s so many how am I supposed 2 do all those when I can’t even read
audiobook!!!
The shorts are pretty short
and Above and Beyond is genuine Peak
Look at the cover until information is absorbed via osmosis
Above and beyond is peak
Are the warhammer crime novels easy to buy as physical books or am I to expect black market organ money to get any of them?
Ok ok ok ok ok ok
Will do this series next.
Doing Vincula now — last GG book. Finished Anarch.
Ok before the NyQuil takes me out
I think qov is one of my favorite supporting characters
He's just got this charm
Hes really good in Genefather too
The oldest Crime novel, Bloodlines, was originally more or less $15 is now being sold for $45-50 on the used market
Bruh
this shit is why I just epub
idk how yall do physical books
I only get the super cheap ones
If a books more than 20 bucks I'm not buying a physical
I mostly audio or epub
At least the Crime novels have no reading order (yet) so guess I'll pick up the more recent ones
they KINDA do
but like its literally just
story/short starts
"OH HEY its that one guy!"
Their reading order is also just the release dates, you will just sometimes see a character from a previous story you might recognize or etc.

Yeah after that its anyones game
its got the most background lore on Alecto and vargaunta
^
you will be less confused
"Whats a Chastener? Do they Chasten my boots???"
me reading
Yeah, I would like to read Bloodlines in a physical copy, not ebook format

It makes me look fancy sitting in the breakroom reading a chonky ass book
'spensive tho
I have read textbooks as ebooks so much to complete my Bachelor's that I have a general distaste for ebooks.
I listen to books between phonecalls or on my breaks
Yes yes I do dispise poors next question
I'd like to get big chonkyass books and special editions but I ain't spending that money
Also people are less likely to talk to you if you're reading a book, than they are if you're reading on your phone
I'd love to get the lion limited ed book but we all know that ain't happening
I only have one limited edition (Ushoran), I really want to get my hands on a Limited edition Honourbound copy of though
Belisarius Cawl The Great Work-Special Edition says otherwise
That's fucking dope
That hardcover gonna attract eyes
Bruh
mfers made a commissar novel look like same game of thrones romance novel cover
MID!
🗣️
Lion book

I was gonna say the same thing
Lmao RIGHT
I like it

I would like if papa nurgle would stop blessing me for five God damn minutes
I feel like gw should make a tech priest primer book for maintenance and repair
Kinda like the guardsman primer but for techies
i want perturabo to find a way to exploit the daemon in him then remove him just so he can be a normal traitor primarch
WELL I WANT HIM TO NOT BE A DAEMON ANYMORE
speaking of daemons
i think the coolest daemon introduction was cherubael in eisenhorn
i remember it
😔
Cherubael is cool
he really is
especially in bequin
he actually feels intimate calling her little thing
it's like he accepts he's a slave and just tries to live it the best he can
if that makes sense
i hated reading him fighting that angel
i'm pretty sure he killed it too
that sanguinius blood angel clone or whatever they were
abnett made a masterpiece with penitent
Adfjehwbdhr need more bequin
I love her first-person voice
Abnett’s best writing imo
Bc it is objectively cool / good / pretty
I swear I’ve seen this guys bald head before in a different discord server
maybe in space marine 2 server
i was there for a while

who knows that the emperor is a perpetual?
cause id figure if someone did theyd make a play to take him off the throne
If he gets off the throne a new asshole gets torn in reality and a chaos god might get born via the new tear in reality the size of the eye of terror if not bigger forming
Its not known that the emperor is perpetual in the way say, grammaticus is, and would actually come back to life
He doesn't age but i don't think anyone ever managed to kill him
And yeah that aside the intermediate time would be pretty bad
Theres a bunch of radical sects that want to try that sort of thing but more sane people won't let them
Didnt horus also get him with an evil chaos weapon? We've seen sufficiently invested objects kill perpetuals, the emperor's own sword can do it
echoes of eternity's chapters have some crazy length some times
one chapter is like 4 pages
then another is 30
I like doing a chapter here and there throughout the day, sometimes 2 at a time
But this one took TIME
thats how i felt reading End and the Death 💀
Cant wait for clads take on those books 💀
Oh, no, wait, we have 😂
"mY KInG Of aGEs" 🚬

please don't say this 😭
I HATE THAT
There is no escape!
hello book people
what are your favorite series involving the imperial guard?
I read gaunts ghosts and loved it and need more
Theres some but id highly recommend this one
Its a very fun book
The Macharius trilogy is also an old but extremely underrated series
You only need 15 Hours
15 Hours is if you want maximum depression
I'm almost done with Harrowmaster. Finally things are happening
(which isnt a bad thing lol)
Alpha legion are really jobbers. Shame the inquisition is even more incompetent somehow
Lmao jobbers?
also wdym somehow
they are literally 2 Inquisitors infighting during the entire operation due to petty feuds

Its one of the best parts of the book imo lol
I blame the puritan
Nah its 90% very much her fault yeah lol
literally ruins our entire flow GET OUT OF MY SHIP
(In all honesty the radical is pretty fucking dumb tho)
I mean hes blinded by revenge
I love how the primaris are portrayed as shitters
I wouldnt really say shitters
they are brand new, they just dont understand the alpha legion
which is like. kinda fair lol
Especially the first scene where they are overconfident af and they just get stomped
Yeah its one of my fav part sof the book
also I LOVE how they emphasize the warband leader dude on the opening credits text
and he just gets killed

What should I read next; i'm probably finishing the novel tonight
Solomon is like WAY down the cast of Alphas too which is funny
you are my next victim
📖
they got a lot of mileage out of that one drawing of her lol
Mhm I think I do have Outgunned in the pile somewhere
Short Stories love re-using art

"you kept it saved as layers right"
"yeah"
"good"
Highly recommend reading Starstruck then Own Worst Enemy before you move to Above and Beyond
it actually adds to the plot of the 2 books, its really good shit
Above is also like one of my favorite 40k books ever i think
I take theyre not included in the physical copy
Yeah this series is not really that famous so alas no
I wish it was
same
🙏
Probably in the omnibus in 5-10 years
Harrowmaster was great even if the twist at the end was pretty obvious.
Im gonna be frank i did not expect it
tho i did have the biggest shit eating grin when it happened
I kinda expected it halfway. Originally I thought it was going to be the puritan Inquisitor but also ya know, Alpha Legion.
It was a cool reveal nonetheless.
Goin' dark now . Getting spoilery here 🫥
YEET
yeah Reynolds quit post-Bile iirc
Both Reynolds were pretty great honestly.
yeah I dont really blame him for quitting
Black Library can be awful to work with lol
Unless you're like Thorpe or Abnett. Then you can do anything.
Yeah they are the real old guard
they got enough influence to mostly do what they want minus some restrictions.
Gav was writing rulebooks/lore for GW before most people here were like even born lol
is this a threat?..
I keep seeing that book on audible, I couldnt get into double eagle so I ruled out getting aviation based imperium books
I did like denny flowers short story in da red gobbo collection though
At the end of Harrowmaster ||the inquisitor raises the pyro witch to full inquisitor and they seem to be a lot of emphasis on her name. || I feel like the book expects me to react to this. Should I know this character from somewhere else?
Yeah shes from Rites of Passage lmaooo
Its not as much of a aeronautica book as its a novel based on the life of a aeronautica ace, its protagonist is a propagandist whos ironically not a horrible person trying to make what he can out of the situation i nthe planet hes sent to being slowly taken ove rby orks
I bought it expecting aircraft slop and got based af character things instead
sorta ciaphas cain adjacent thing then, comparison due to lack of anything else similar
Got an email from amazon; above and beyond just released paperback. It's a sign.
(Ravenor omnibus too)
might get one of the books then
Get Outgunned
its a series so you will be confused otherwise, its the first in the duology
I was looking at it
and yeah id kinda say Caiphas Cain-ish but its a very much more taken seriously
theres some funny its still though, but comedic and dark humor'y lol
"WE LEFT MY PROPAGANDA SKULL BEHIND!"
"Who?"
yeah thats my sort of jam, double eagle put me off because of the plane jibberish fights
SAME.
I get why people love it but im just not into WW2 plane-wank jargon sorry guys lol
in that case yeah the book barely has any of that in it, it just sometimes covers basic things regarding Thunderbolts, Lightnings etc, its much more focused on the pilots from the view of the protagonist Kile Simlex himself
its one of the best "whew close calls" of the book for me since i bought it expecting plane-junk
felt like I'd read most imperial guard books I was interested in, was moving off warhammer stuff/taking a break from it, this'll be a good return I'll get it to listen to tomorrow in audiobook form while I work
If you want some more I.G stuff id also highly recommend Fall of Cadia
another fun book with lots of guard focus but also tons of POV swaps during the battle for Cadia
I'd avoided that knowing what already happens on cadia but that frames it a bit more interesting, not covering the overall ordeal
To be fair we barely know most of the POVs on Cadia as per Gathering Storm, its an incredibly general coverage of it on that one.
here you see what every side of the battle feels, the Cadians, Kasrkin, Chaos Marines, Loyalist Astartes, Admirals, Abaddon, hell even Trazyn, its great
you also get to see Creed being a alcoholic mess ala Churchill trying to keep it all together, its some real good shit
oh that does sound fun
I'd stayed away from the krieg books too, I heard a big chunk of them is logistics
Its not even logistics
Krieg books are just... mid
they are very medicore due to them ALWAYS being by Steve Lyons and nobody else, it gets very stale when hes been writign about them for like 20 IRL years
damn
yeaaah lol
people like
only recommend Dead Men Walking and nothing else, and that book is like a decade old lol
its funny to see the differences in old books like gaunts ghosts, I read a few of those
Dilara recommending something from Lyons 👀 ||it's his best novel||
My favorite is how they are so old they use the old gimp mandrakes
and not the new updated shadow monster versions

You WILL enjoy gas mask and trench shovel memes
Ciaphas cain made me like the bland valhallans
yeah because Valhallans got fucking character
and arent just "Mhm sure for the Emperor ill go die now"

it's a lot of "We love the cold!"
something-something insert soviet russian memes here
was surprised by deathworlder enjoyed that book
I got rain rn
yesterday is was was 35 C, like Sahara desert, and now people are resquing their kids from their cars, knees in water
yesterday had insane rain, earlier it was very hot, now the rain begins again
I had planned to just get the book titled "KRIEG" bcuz I haven't read anything about them
Turn through the book real fast, I see "The Cadians and Kriegers..." and I just immediately put the book back onto the shelf
My favorite part about that book is it has a present-time battle thing in the novel as the plot and flashbacks showing the entire origin of the planet Krieg right?
And almost all the readers say the flashbacks where you see the origin of the planet/regiment itself is better than actually reading the present-time stuff about Kriegsmen themselves

Not trying to act like "oh i love everything besides the mainstream" but I don't know if I'd want a book that's nothing but talking about the most recorded and chronicled regiments in 40k
Maybe to clear up misinformation that the internet spreads, but if beyond that it's just glazing then I won't bother 😔
Yeah it really doesnt have much
Oh boy, what's something new I can learn from this book?
"the kriegers are beyond the best and coolest awesome legions in the imperium"
how do kreigers even speak with the gasmasks on?
i feel like it should all be pyro voice lines
It's the most Steve Lyons novel possible, I really liked the flashback stuff but it's drowned out by a mid story with some neat parts
Best Krieg is ||Krieg Acerbus||
Do you guys have any recommendations for books about the imperial fists?
Storm of Iron
I don't think there's really any outstanding Imperial Fists novels but maybe Seventh Retribution
I heard there's some good short stories but I never really read them
Otherwise you might have more luck with successor chapters
There's also the 30k novels but I hardly read any of them
All right, thanks!
Praetorian of Dorn.
It's also a great Alpha Legion book too.
Why does all higher command despise gaunts ghosts so much
They always seem to have some fight with authority in their books
Because the Imperium is a corrupt shithole
Tall poppy syndrome
and the people in charge came to power through nepotism and other IRL military nonsense
Exported straight from the UK 2 the imperium
Have they considered they shouldn’t do that because they are the good guys?
The amount of hate they get just seems kinda extreme sometimes
I mean haunts ghosts is based on sharpes rifles
Like getting barraged by friendly artillery because they didn’t care the ghosts were there
Where every single gentleman officer despised the unit
Have you considered they are just awful people

"why is military command so mean"
"do you believe in magic" 🦄🔥😂😂😂
Its the most scary trailer ive ever seen. But also surreal. Almost Monty Python esque
Because guant is to OP since he's the main character.
In some books he's just a commander commissar but over the course of the book becomes the defacto head of the army after the command is shown to be incomptaint
It doesnt really have much to do with him being the main character
its a homage to Sharpe's Rifles which is just what Gaunt rips off, officers of that age which 40k also copies had all sorts of pettiness, nepotism and assholery to them, the Imperium just enhances it since everyone in its institutions are usually awful people
How dare u suggest GG is derivative
Gaunt's also very much considered an upstart compared to the people hes on a command level with usually
Rising from the commisariat to a pretty damn high standard rank instead of being from a military family etc etc
Hes a guy from the schola
Also they kinda made up his rank just for him to make a problem go away lol
"What do you mean the planet blew up with everyone we planned to lead the army? Theres still one commisar? Eh put him officially in charge i guess"
Sean bean said winter is coming
Still not sure how comissariat is considered lower than traditional military
because at the end of the day they are still political officers
their ranks/influence depends on the warzone as well
Commissars are weird. Their authority mainly resides in enforcing morale, order, and adhearance to laws and military code. They are in that regard much more akin to a space marine chaplin.
Their rank and authority in regards to strategy and tactics varies wildly.
Can a commissar lead a planetary assault? Yes.
Can a commissar lead a starship instead of a captain? Also yes
Can he accompany a squad of infantry thats being lead by a corporal, just sticking to enforcing the emperors law and maintaining morale, leaving the operational and tactical leadership to the corporal? Yes
That's the finnicky part about commissars. They can lead military operations, all the way up to planetary or sector defense. But they dont always do. Their main role is loyalty ensurance and the maintaining of order and discipline.
Yup, but bitching at a commisar when you are just say a colonel is just dumb. Bad politics and shows why they would never become generals
I mean you are still a higher ranking person in the Guard, you are allowed to do that and it still happens IRL.
And they would probably still become generals due to systematic corruption/nepotism
its kinda the point
This makes sense in sharpes rifles, because what is the mustang officer going to do
Depends on the bitching. If your bitching doesnt qualify as "heresy", "cowardice","damaging to morale" , "questioning of authority " or disobedience/treason", you should be good.
When you are fucking around with a parallely powerful office (baby commisar will go complain to daddy commisar)
A commissar's power goes as far as they can throw it
they cant just randomly accuse and execute officers of big ranks either
then its their head on the block
unless theres a proper standing charge it will almost always go nowhere
Plenty are the graves of commissars who didnt have the muscle to back up their authority. Ask the catachans 😂
Cowardice

Its incompetence.
the imperial bureucracy is filled with it
commissars included
Oh yeah
The thing is with these nobles I feel like the only thing they know should be politics
Because thats all their fatasses need to succeed
Their is no parallel to a commisariat and mobility power structures though
I mean there kinda is from history
its their entire inspiration lol
and we arent talking about commissars, we are talking about nobles
My issue is not that the nobles are stupid though
Its that nobility somehow doesnt know how to deal with parallel power structures that are pretty much the only thing capable of murdering them
Like they wouldn't act outright hostile to an ecclesiarch outside of snide remarks, as opposed to actively denigrating the commisariat
Again as ever it depends.

Power is power.
I guess
Theres no "default" form to this stuff.
you are also doing the greatest mistake of trying to logistically think about warhammer

Just the one difference that makes no sense to me from the sharpes rifles (where the officers hate sharpe for a reason)
We got a president IRL who stopped a government agency from giving weather/storm data to a forecasting center not caring its probably gonna kill/injure thousands.
The stupidity of our beings goes deep lol
They kinda hate Sharpe for no reason
It's a running trend that it's only the incompetent officers which hate him
and they hate him because him being good threatens their innate sense of superiority. While the actual competent officers don't give a damn, they just know Sharpe can get it done.
no they hate him for being a mustang
Sharpe is a car???
He is an outsider entering their gentlemeans club
what episode is this
I must have missed a chapter, I don't recall him being a horse
Mustang is a term for enlisted becoming an officer
If anything I'd respect a horse more if it became a Rifleman
Idk a car is even more wild
Na just wire up a rifle to a dash cam and you're on that sorted
Do you know what makes good soldiering
All flows as the author wills it and as much as the big dogs at GW can be assed to micromanage him.
All that matters is that you buy the slop.
All else falls flat to that.
Worldbuilding. Plot. Sense. Everything.
Pay them money and shut up 😂
Firing 3 shots a minute while going over 90mph
Ya there’s a pretty consistent thread that they kinda third wheel it a lot. They’re feared bc they specifically are the schoolmarms not bc of absolute authority the way the Inquisition is.
they're often a huge pain to the rest of the regiment yeah lol
the inquisition is the monster in the closet but the commisar is the angry goblin punching you in the shin
read a decent chunk of outgunned it's definitely the type of warhammer book I like
reminds me a bit of assassinorum kingmaker, That book has a lot of personality for a book about imperial assassins
I like snarky characters, its why I like cain
Shard definitely overtakes him in that regard
shes an absolute cunt, I love her lol
thats a nice way to put it
yeah definitely, he relies more on quips
Shard meanwhile is like
"Fuck off, im drinking."
and people think he's praising them
yeee
big fan of shard in that way, very strong intro on her
yeah the book doesnt explore her too much, thats all for Above and Beyond which goes REALLY deep into it
you will also see some more of her in the Shorts you gotta read before you start Above, highly recommend it
Be assured I'm getting it next
I'm glad to have found it, as you've said there isnt much like it
gone through most the series I care for gaunts ghosts has moments but overall is drier
This sorta stuff also inspires me to keep my bi-weekly dark heresy 2e game going
Yeah im just happy to introduce more people to it, comparing it to Kingmaker is also very apt imo. Again its a serious but also a simply Fun™ novel, im not against depresso marine bolter go bang-bang novels but little niche books like this always grab my interest more.
I like a few of the space marine books but saying that the ones I like most are the night lords trilogy because theres personality there with characters like septimus the chapter serf
agree completely on that, these more isolated characters in fun books are what I most look for even outside warhammer books
Yea amidst my top 40k books theres only like 1 space marine one and thats Lukas the Trickster lol
I've only read kingmaker from that group
wdym wraithbone phoenix is not in your top...
One book I'm getting soon is grotsnik, which denny flowers wrote also
I like it but its not a book I fell in love with
AAA-
NO

Id highly recommend Lukas, Watcher in the Rain (which is an audio drama), Rites of Passage and Farseer as well
very fun adventure books
wraithbone phoenix was great
noted, they'll go on the list
I hated the ending
just felt like more needless eldar sadporn
otherwise really good novel
Is that an Eldar book?
it was a few months back I'm mind blanking on it
TWO eldar books
Its a human- well, abhuman duo adventure book with a later appearance mute eldar ranger character.
The mcguffin just ||turns out to be a demonic artifact that sucks the soul of the eldar ranger that wanted to take it back home to her craftworld lmao||
so basically the entire journey was for nothing
oh
yeahhhh lol
now I remember
but that aside yeah hope you have fun with this one
the duology with Shard is real fun
yeah thats why I forgot
Not wraithbone phoenix lol
"The Farseer" book
Oh lmao
I know wraithbone is a crime novel lol
Shut up nerd
but yeah its kind of an eldar novel, theres the farseer and the warrior eldar with him who accompany the main washed up ex-rogue trader Janus Draik to a demon world for a mcguffin
its one of THE rare 40k books that got entirely retconned for the dumbest reasons, its a really fun novel and by the author of Gotre and Felix
muffin
I was about to mention gotrek and felix
Yeah the reason for its retcon is also hilarious
basically its because it had a weapon that could kill Slaanesh in it right
this was 20 years before the ynnari were a thing
WHO ALSO GO TO THIS SAME PLANET IN THE BOOK

I like anthology books, its rad that trollslayer basically is one, its a strong intro to them
Yeeee its why I really love the book
the eldar duo alongside draik make a great trio of protagonists
you rarely see 40k books which are just fun adventure stuff
blackstone fortress sorta was
I really liked the 2nd book, some cool stuff happened the crew felt like a ttrpg party
Yeah tho thats kinda the point considering the tabletop setting for it IS a ttrpg party lol
the book 3 is also interesting and has a really sad finale I liked
I was around when BT was coming out too and it was a huge thing, people entirely moved away from it now
I've been going through audiobook form because its convinent, sadly only two of the books are on it
Ascension felt pretty final tbh
Yeah tbh it pretty much does
but like in the final book Janus literally turns into like
some sort of fortress god alongside his gf, and the blackstone fortress heads for the sol system
its a really sad finale lol
damn its sorta foreshadowed in 2
Yep its bleak af
basically he "joins" with the Fortress to save her as its activating and he has no other choice, im spoiling it because most people have never read this novel
I've read like one horus heresy book and the part that caught me off is in those books they're still fighting random weird alien civilisations I guess it makes sense as its before they're killing eachother but some are out there
Yeah the 30k-era was filled with alien/human civilizations that get nuked by the Imperium and its Legions
they are still around now too but less occuring, space is big lol
guess those tau other species gotta come fron somewhere, its odd they dont crop up in side books, the kroots kinda get used for that in most cases
I hate discord mobile
basically because authors cannot be assed
its why you also never get books exploring non-imperial unfounded human civilizations and whatnot
its easier to hold a warhammer fans attention when they can soyjak at space marines shooting generic evil aliens
makes sense, necrons and orks have had some books I've loved though
twice dead king and stuff like big dakka
Hopefully a votann book will come at some point, I'm not a fan of their aestetic but interested in how they'd be more personality wise because dwarfs are funny
Yu vath book
no
Old ones book with a completely different galaxy and they go check on the galaxy and say "wow thats fucked"
And just leave
its why I love lizardmen in WHF End Times
the fact that they just leave is so fucking sensible and hilarious
Yup
I remember in hs this one dude hated endtimes
But the lizardmen were funny
His complaint was the amount of "rocks fall and everyone dies" moments
I thought the peak was when Throgg pissed on Sigvald's corpse

40k moment
Is the reveal that they nailed babies onto walls or something
Way 2 b unsubtle about it Dilara
It’s not the fact its the setup
Any cringe grimderp can have shit like that obv
But in context it gets ya
I mean so?
what unsubtle, its literally what it is lol

Von Shard really is an asshole
Shes such a fucking cunt man, I love her

its such a breath of fresh air too, any other book she'd be like some kindly misunderstood hero
So far the book is fun. Lucille and Simlex are both great characters
I'm happy it's not plane autism with technical terms
U leave double eagle alone I love planes
REAL
Hate that shit
Was legit dreading it when i was getting this book so happy its not the case here lol
wtf no literally unreadable if I don’t get a description of the switch 4 each flap & thruster every flight
I must b able 2 get in flight simulator & replicate each sortie to the 1/2 meter
i wonder when will you find your witch
just learned there are books about some commissar called Gaunt from Abnett, are they good?
Yus
thanks
some cool regiments get shown in those books
old man yaoi
bottom text
do not speak to me of "slowburn" if the arguments dont last 8000 years
Is this book really about 2 gay necrons
I see too many gay jokes about it
(Every time someone posts the book, there is 100% a gay joke there)
Doesn't quite work since one of them is a cyclops. The whole locking gazes thing.
you can't realistically dedicate millenia just to trolling each other without catching some allegations
Yes
doomed old man yaoi
they are divorced
They can work through it
Not if orrikan keeps resetting the timeline
Based
😔
Not 40K but if any1 wants 2 kno more about the trauma the Europoors endured that made them create 40K, Keegan’s The First World War is excellent & beautifully written.
No.
But the fandom likes to interpret sexual things where there are none, just like with Gullimann and yvraine...🫠
Sigmund Freud would love those people.... I dont. Leave your romance shipping out of my grimdark
i see
gooners
More thirst in this community than than every dessert people have ever had in the history of mankind
Its actually about 2 necrons that hate each other
In a less sexual way, they are political rivals. Totally normal for 40k. But noooooo, everything has to be sexual, because haha, funni ghey necrons...
If the author wanted them gay, he would have made them so ...
But again, this fandom is so horny, i would not be surprised If at least every 3rd minifigure collector occasionally misuses his or her figurines....

eh just a harmless ship
Interpreting a character as gay is not "Making it sexual"
This is way more harmless lol
also Trazyn and Orikan legit argue like a couple
Yv/Gman meanwhile have nothing to do with each other
Unless people think they are actually couples
Yea it's interpreting undertones in the way two complex characters interact with eachother, it's not like we're writing hardcore erotic fanfic here.
Mustve missed the funny... Dont find it entertaining. But then again, gay or straight, romance is enigma to me. Dont know, dont care, give me physical violence, thats why i read 40k anyways.
The only porn i want is bolterporn
The people that dislike it always usually have the weirdest takes lol
Havent read the book yet
they sit at a theatre like statler and waldorf and bicker like a divorced couple
I bet at least some of you secretly are
Based
🤐
its legit so goofy i love it
"YOU PUT US IN FRONTROW SEATS TO A COUP!"
"Oh lmao lol"
Reporting 4 duty
but the reviews were good
Infinite and divine is the one where orrikan keeps doing timeline changes right?
Honestly not a bad prediction of how quirky immortals would act
Yeah
during a fucking court session btw
Heh
ngl most realistic use of time travel abilities
Paternity court for the rogue trader
he resets 3 times to pick a different mediator bc he keeps getting sentenced to execution
Lmfao
Lel
yeah and after enough resets Traz is like
"Wait a minute. YOU'RE REVERSING TIME!"
"No im not???"
"YES YOU FUCKING ARE"
Savescumming lmao
Maybe i do need to read it
its extremely praised
