Robbie MacNiven
the first one being a bit better than the second
damn he writes alot about them
3 novels and two short stories
yeah he is the de facto Carcharodons writer at the moment
hows his writing?
just in case i need to maybe grit my teeth
I had no issues with it
is it another classic case of hit or miss?
I've only listened through the Carcharodon novels of his, those weren't misses at least
Good
He didn’t write the shitty carch book
Which was some other dude
Now I just need to know if I need to listen through all of these or skip them before The Silent King drops
The Iron Kingdom
by Nick Kyme (2023)
The Martyr's Tomb
by Marc Collins (2023)
Sea of Souls
by Chris Wraight (2023)
Hand of Abaddon
by Nick Kyme (2024)
Kind of interested in all of them but I've not heard many good things about them
Iron Kingdom has knights iirc, could be cool. Martyr's Tomb is Black Templars, bleh. Sea of Souls is by Chris Wraight which is promising. Hand of Abaddon has a Votann in it's cover so that tempts me
Iron kingdom is ass
Sea of souls is actually good
Hand of Abbadon is mid as hell but it’s Kyme so I’ll take it
Martyrs tomb is mid
do any of these have any over arching story beats
because those have been kinda lacking so far
a few here and there
Only hand of abbadon, you can skip the rest.
I’d say read sea of souls because it’s actually good
might do it that way yeah
Nope. Im 99% sure; looking through my archive rn; theres not a single official white scars dreadnaught art.
Its always bikes or tactical marines
i bet white scars have dreadnoughts on roller skates
The shopping cart of doom
I just picked up the ltd sanguinius book, will have to start putting aside the funds for these new upcoming ones
I have a mighty need for that Belisarius Cawl book in red and gold.
I'm 99 percent sure no white scar would ever agree to be put in a dreadnaught
Thats actually a thing in lore
they see being put in a dreadnaught as the worst thing imaginable, not being able to feel the wind on their face yada yada
yeah but why arent space marines programmed to have honor as their prime motivator for fighting and being in a naught is still respected
Every space marine is literally their own person + depends on the indoctrination.
they arent mono-personality lol
😠 they all clearly crave battle honors like its heroin
NEVER
I've went back to 40k after Tales of Heresy and i'm enjoying it.
Infinite and the divine was good but overhyped. Rating: ||good job as always Robert Rath||
i shall only read 40k books written by my beloved ADB
night lords???!? you would have me read traitor books
wind on their face?
even real life soldiers dont complain about that
white scars need a month in the bottom of a narrow hive world basement
Something-something mongol wuaaaaaghhh [the hu music]
LOL
the intro of fallen order plays
Cal’s journey begins with him listening to Sugaan Essena, an original song from Mongolian band The Hu. That’s not Mongolian you’re hearing though, it’s a language created with the band that’s unique to Star Wars. It’s Cal’s favorite song for ship scrapping or galactic gladiator fights, but why should he have all the fun? We recorde...
AHAHAHAHAHAHA
IM LISTENING TO IT AND I CAN PICTURE THE WHITE SCARS RUNNING AROUND LIKE BABOONS
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
SHUT UP
LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLL
also the Hu rock so
yeah its great
Cadians r traitors
They let Cadia fall
To a guy who has literally no arms and a jank mini from a long out of print space combat game
cadias fall was celestines fault for not banishing abbadon correctly
or killing abbadon??? idk if hes fully transformed into a daemon yet
That’s true she should have made fun of his hobbies in front of his friends
No man can survive that
Yea but it happens before the fall of cadia
Give it time.
Isn't, he refuses to pledge allegiance to any chaos god
are you confusing abaddon for the khorne marine
in the book
no
im wondering if he is still technically mortal
he made smaller deals with the chaos gods no? but hes still not fully sold out to any of them even in the horus heresy he hated horus for selling out completely
He's been pretty adamant about staying human
Even ripped a demon off one of his marines that gone demon prince
😭
He might not be a Daemon Prince himself but he's got some shit going on
ok maybe robot girlyman with his fiery sword of plot locomotion can do it
In theory, Abaddon will probably teleport away the second Gorillaman gets anywhere near him
Always has a backup plan
He’s had time 2 ruminate
so he was studying all the time he fucked off?
Yes and making beer
He's had 10k years of dodging betrayals and backstabs.
Not to mention the collection of psykers he uses to see the future
Abaddon has eaten so many good books
was one of them the book of "plot armor and retcons"
Lmao google has the classic biblical def of abaddon but
The image I’m dead
Bro booksmaxxed so hard he traveled back in time and became a character in the book
Tbh the Bible is literally the original book of plot armor and retcons
Man, reading gotrek and Felix. ||Snorri is making me very sad||
Definitely didnt expect this when the funny fella came back into the story
How um in what order have you read the books?
And what are you on now?
Yeah, its called plotarmor and its invincible
Shaman slayer
Brothers of the snake any good?
Was the first 40k book I read when I was like 10, I enjoyed it at the time
Haven't reread it so don't know if it holds up
its good
When oll and his crew were jumping through time in the siege of terra, was it erebus that they were always afraid of catching them? The being they spoke about being not far behind them?
yea he showed up and spoke to erda, he made a reference to chasing a rag tag band and i thought it was them
Just finished "Fallen Angels" by Mike Lee
I dont really know what to think about this book...
Its not horrible but it aint a masterpiece either.
Also, Luther sucks. Winy ass bitch. But the lion too. More secrecy and convoluted bickering than in a highschool drama. Bunch of emotionally fragile school girls in power armor with the strength and ressources of God at their disposal... 🤦🏻🥴😂
Also, the ending

||"Perturabo, primarch of the iron warriors smiled, his eyes gleaming like polished iron. 'oh yes', he said. 'of that you may be assured'"
||
Dont cut yourself with that sarcasm. Would be a shame If you soiled the neat and clean discord with your blood....

i need to read iron warriors/perturabo books
Storm of Iron is quite good
Damn it can't find deadmen walking anywhere to buy
@tall phoenix
Do u buy physical 40k books
Used to but its too expensive, I stick to epubs now.
i got krieg in hardcover but i didn't even open the package yet
my reckless spending will ruin me
Deadmen Walking is prob the only Krieg book you should read
All the others are trash!

dead men walking is the best krieg book there is (it's all the same author anyways)
But it is not the best novel
but it's not the worst one either
there's worst slop out there
Yeah not expecting the best novel to be about a guard regiment
I thought Dead Men Walking was boring as hell.
Same but I dont wanna put down people form reading it
also has one of THE funniest 40k book endings imo

Lyons did a lot expecting me to feel bad for this fucking loser protagonist
^ literally the book
people just sometimes like his work because hes the only author that ever writes about krieg and I find that extremely sad but funny.
People just get excited for Krieg because of the aesthetic and want GW to stop releasing Cadian books for once.
^^^^
The Steel Legion is literally right there GW. I beg you 😭
The most hilarious part is i think Lyons straight up said months ago that he didnt even really want to write the Vraks novel.
Hold on i gotta find that warcom post
Lack of competition for specific faction writers does that to a motherfucker
Lmao that's super reassuring coming from the only dude that does the Shovel Legion books.
FOUND IT
I'll take the Krieg over the cadians tbh
Oh, we're from Cadia, we're fucking special. Nothings as good as Cadia
why am i not surprised that stock image of the krieger is from the Vraks novel
I actually started with the Necrons. I wanted to write for them, so I had to find an Imperial Guard regiment to pit against them.
Brother still managed to make one of the worst interpretations of the Necrons. That's wild.
This was also im 99% sure pre-retcon oldcrons
So explains why they were even more boring.
I guess it just depends what your cup of tea is. Some people prefer the old murder terminators.
damn they were that shit?
They were just killer robots.
Thats it.
Essentially metal Tyranids
It just doesn't make for a compelling book when more than half of it is two incredibly deadpan forces going at each other for two hundred pages. If the writer was better they would have made the PDF and civilians interesting to offset this.
Ah just as emotionless as a dwarf then
But it is Steve Lyons so you shouldn't expect much.
even the actual terminators had more personality than the oldcrons afaik, largely because a faction of purely personalityless robots are boring to read/watch
It very much feels like something that should be relegated to a 1 paragraph codex entry.
I think you can make it work but Lyons is just not enough of a good writer for it.
The novel barely has krieg/crons do anything to each other either lol
I thought the scene of ||the building collapsing due to the scarab swarm was pretty cool.||
Yeah nah that was cool, the novel has neat bits, its just that overall its waauaghh BAD
The rest really was random trooper 13 versus generic Necron.
men dead walking

protag had it coming
brb, going to read Dead Men Walking / Krieg / Siege of Vraks back to back
Lyons has bits where I really like what's going on and then it goes back to just okay whatever
I think he probably did his best in his short Left for Dead because it's so short and very simple
Jaghatai tossed a dreadnought like it was a toy...
Dead Ken Walking
Garviel loken
@runic root ||see what i posted||
I almost said except loken
Where?
directly above
Ah yes. How intrinsiclly insightful
"Do you have any idea how little that narrows it down"?
We just know he dont like abbadon
I mean, he is an easy pick. He and Tori (Nickname because i dont know how the full name is spelled and i cant be arsed to look it up)
Yeah I like torgadden too
Idk how its spelled
Tarik
I guess
Also little horus grew on me in saturnine
Who in their right mind does?
Abbadon is the Epitome of "i hate the emperor because he lied to us about deamons and took power from them".
I never was able to buy that as a justified reason for rebellion.
Yeah, its a lie? And ? I am pretty sure each legion lied or at least omitted stuff to their aspirants until the time was ready or even never. Never got the appeal of self righteous indignation and thus justification to rebellion derrived from this
And he is not even really skilled like Sigismund or blessed by his gifts like Severtar. He's just a dick to angry to die, like Kharn, but without the character depth
Doesnt one of the primarchs call him "horus angry welp"?

Yeah I mean after finishing the and the death I was like "this the guy who took down cadia?"
Lol
I mean, several black legion and Chaos books and still he lacks any further character depth that "i am angry and hurt, so i am gonna make you hurt and burn your world down" ok ok you highschool drama queen, go easy on huffing that nail polish
Dont even get me started on erebus....
If i was in a room with Kharn, Abbadon, Kurze, Typhus and erebus and i had 4 bullets id shoot erbus 4 Times and then beat his corpse with the grip of the gun
Horus flayed him. Kharn humiliated and almost killed him. And i am pretty sure kurze and Typhus would be so pissed of by him they wouldnt mind killing him
Might read dark imperium shit next
||Thypus getting stabbed by a Nemesis force staff from a Grey Knights Captain and needing forever for the wound to heal is super funny to me.||
Thats in dark Empire iirc
Warhammer 40k is a study in the subject of "can being a big enough asshole give you superpowers?"
Judging by your last statement, slaneeshi corruption
*Cocks boltgun
*Bolts cockgun
Not just 40K
In all three of their settings age of sigmar from fantasy
there's always that one character that is a powerful colossal asshole
Meh, age of sigmar and fantasy is generally more hopeful and heroic
yes but
it also has it's fair share of assholes with power
Oh yeah I dont doubt that at all
Finished this collection yesterday, an excellent set of novels.
Highly recommend, especially if you've got audible, all these for the price of one credit is a steal
Didn't realise there was a collection, I already bought the Reverie
Still worth it I guess
If you want you could refund the reverie copy you got and use the credit for this collection instead
Right right
I really hope the rest of Fehevari's stories will be released on audio some day too
Though I am thinking about getting the two new physical collections, was hoping those would be audio as well but I doubt they'll get that treatment
Same, I usually listen to audio whilst commuting or going to sleep
Gaunt's Ghosts The Founding arrived earlier today.
I have discovered an untapped wanting to read physical books after relying so much on e-textbooks for college due to prices.
nothing beats paper

okay maybe scissors...
I finished Eisenhorn Omnibus
Thought that was the end of it, apparently a book called Pariah exists that's a continuation
||Which turns into a trilogy for Bequin||
There's two Bequin books, awaiting for the third
Is Pariah and the book after that good?
That's good to hear since the first thing I read about Pariah was that the reader didn't like it
So should I probably pick up Pariah as the very next to continue where I left off from the Omnibus?
No, you should now get the ravenor omnibus
oh right lmao, I remembered his stories were included in it
Ravenor books are so amazing and the side characters get more time
I loved frauka
Love nayl
Kinda, the Commissar Yarrick books feature them
also in a minor role in one of the Ciaphas Cain books, they're just kinda there as armoured support for the Valhallans
Nothing focused on them?
Aw
I will just get krieg drip then
😔
Them krieg boys taking all the spotlight
Nayl is in the Ravenor books??
I might have to pick up his Omnibus first
Yes, he's present throughout all the series
great re-occuring character
Nayl on right
He's possibly my second favorite side character, well now probably #1
||Ever since what happened with Fischig
||
||Poor Fischig man||
||i was more sad for Tobias||
||Literally cried when he died||
are the word bearers books by anthony reynolds any good? seeing an omnibus being sold and might get it
They are very fun id recommend them
its like reading about Decepticons but they are more satanic lol
Extremely good
By far some of the best csm books
I really like the Word Bearers trilogy from the Heresy. It gives them a lot of humanity plus fleshes them out while making the Ultramarines and World Eaters suffer
Argel Tal is my boy
I can recommend the WB omnibus.
Especially the 2nd book
Is siege of vraks worth a read for the kriegsmen?
Its a very bad novel
Its just a very generic novel
like, it skips over some of the best parts of Vraks
kinda tells a boring story ontop of it
and somehow makes the entire campaign dreadful to read
Is there a book that tells the good parts of vraks?
Yeah but they are extremely well written and not really that outdated
Putting that next to deadmen walking
Ah yeah you can just find em online if you search for PDFs
But also
The Siege of Vraks is one of the most detailed conflicts in Warhammer 40,000 - a gruelling campaign of trench warfare that spiralled into a major daemonic incursion and took over two decades to complete. It's so huge it took up THREE Imperial Armour books, so let's see if we can summarise it in just 60 mins!

Sick
Imma do that
I will give the actual books a shot first see if they catch my interest
If not, video
🫡
God krieg grenadier is peak design
So true
Krieg Genadier is actually my favorite guard unit and I'm a cavallry addict
Can confirm that imperial armor are great
I love the source book on the Taros campaign as well as the Badab War
The Fire Hawks did EVERYTHING wrong
Did the dude who was animating it ever finish it or did he get yeeted by gw?

This dude
Love janovic. Unfortunately he'll stop with the 40k content since he is annoyed that GW keeps suing everyone left and right who is making fan content. He has several videos up on it
Well, i like his personality lol. And the content
Animation is good, personality is avg krieg fan
Dude
What
Yes I know
This is rotating back to his personality thing
Where he makes his whole personality krieg
And I hate GW
Yeah I do not like him at all
I’m sure he does it because easy money
One slip up
but also like
and he's cooked
makes stormcast thumbnails for every video that complains about GW
What did he mean by this hmmmm
The thumbnail style sucks
dude it's been years
Why is it all glowing
man just let go of the age of sigmar hate
sugmar dick
AoS is genuinely pretty good like. Mfer we have fantasy battles back like
AoS is good
Genuinely shut up about AoS being bad pleASE
To each their own. I really love Old World and its rules but I love crunchy systems. Different appeal to AoS but like
Ya know
I think The Old World is good
I have never enjoyed a single edition of WHFB I have tried
and I have tried all the "good" ones
then again subjective taste ect. but there was a reason whfb was literally on deaths door
when GW decided to take it out back
And AoS is just genuine quality all around the board since 2e
Like unironically, AoS just has the best sculpts GW has ever done period
All across the board
What exactly does he say in that latest video?
I mean, I could watch it, but I don't think I really wanna give the guy a view
Literally just defending GW's mass ban of grifters, bad 3D model providers, etc
and twists it as "Corporation bad, now buy my krieg merch"
Bruh
real
best sculpts in industry
and its not even fucking close lol
GW genuinely blows the competition out of the water when it comes to sculpt quality + ease of assembly
Its a shame too because his animations were pretty good
I've talked about Janovich before, never liked him. Had friends years back that used to know him who told me not to engage with him because of "Weird stuff" behind the scenes.
I knew someone who did translation work
For him
He’s not very pleasant apparently
I mean would someone who made krieg their personality be.... pleasent
It is an online persona, I hope….
I don't know details, but when my guy friends say to stay away from someone, it's usually for a good reason.
Im unsure
Also probably true
Prolly for the best
He gives me bad vibes
It he also
One of them guys that like history very much
Spill the beans I wanna hear this
👂
Not going to dox this person but the tldr is, he’s loud, constantly bitches about GW in literally every conversation, oh also very demanding, also he sent back 200$ worth of minis he paid for already once and then complained GW didn’t refund him. he did not use the refund function on GW’s website
Yeah uh having seen his last 4 videos that checks out
Oh also
He really doesn’t like uh
People who dislike his animations
Which sure I guess, whatever that’s like the least offensive thing
Can't take criticism as well?
But yeah the dude is apparently just a dick
But he sure loves criticizing other things
Having waited on stream/first showing of his Vraks "animation" id say its deserved.

Fuckin dumbass
KEK
Yeah like
i expected these word by word
and im still irked lol
Ah well it is what it is with grognards.
Oh well, that does it
He’s a shit head
Lol
Lemme see if I can find it
I think arch cut him off
LOL
Which uhh
Okay unironically Arch is like
Genuinely
One of the worst people in the 40K community
Yeah like theres nothing to deny, hes a fucking nazi.
In terms of being a human being
Maybe even the worse
I have not heard a single guy come close to him

Arch is a Nazi + does nothing about pedophiles that he has put in power on his discord
Okay like a genuine question have you guys remember another person worse or just as worse as arch in the 40k community?
Anyways Arch should be fed into a meat grinder legs first
I’d say the dude who cheated on his wife while she was a pregnant was pretty bad
But he isn’t racist
He’s just a normal piece of shit
Yeah that's definitely pretty bad but damn
That's next to a guy that will do that and is a nazi
Idk did brevik play 40k....
Idk
Also stringstorm who.... had some spicy minor dms
Stringstorm is a pedo yes, but at least they’re getting therapy over that and turned themselves in which is a good thing
Other than that yeah arch is the worst
Arch literally had that on his discord
And no
Not cyberpunk
The other abreviation
Yeah I heard this
WILL HE FUCKING STOP WITH THE SIEGE OF VRAKS ALREADY
ITS BEEN 5 MONTHS
No
vraks never ends
Mouth breathers really like Krieg so there'll always be support for more Shovel Legion videos.
Vraks for the next thousand years Morty
Oh yeah midwinter minis is nothing compared to Arch but he has this pathetic dead beat divorced dad energy to all his recent videos that's been a lot
The one bit where he is painting the gross booty hole nurgle tank where he's like "I am a great listener and love taking criticism" after going on a couple minute rant about his ex
I havent watched his videos since but I doubt they have improved past that
LMFAO
holy fuck lol
IM FUCKING DEAD
the way Malys said the "The one bit where he is painting the gross booty hole nurgle tank where he's like "I am a great listener and love taking criticism"
Is still leaving me fucking wheezing
💀
I am cool
And have great takes on Warhammer
Wait till I get on my Moebian 6th apologist bs
Im like Valrok but for deranged space marine yaoi and simping for chaos war lords
Brownie points if it's deranged space marine yaoi involving chaos war lords.
Is it old man yaoi if the space marines have been in the eye for thousands of years
WHAT
ok racism, cheating i can excuse but spending 7+ months on a war thats only mentioned in codexes is crazy
"Mentioned in codexes" bit doesnt mean shit when its been almost 20 years since its been made and people still talk about it to this day.
Vraks is great because its just 1 big campaign across the entire galaxy nobody knows about. Its very realistic somewhat in that case instead of some huge MCU battle like most 40k wars lately.
firstly, as if 'only' in codexes would be a lessening factor, secondly, vraks wasn't a codex story but a story from campaign/background books or whatever you can call the old imperial armour volumes
Pretty much. Its timelessness speaks to its quality.

if u like it so much why dont you cheat on your pregnant wife and make a video series then HUH
That would require me to socialize which is disgusting.
You guys
Someone forwarded me a bit of a meme around Tig and I’m all emotional that somehow I managed to make people who never knew my friend remember him as well.
Now you may resume normal activity.
AYE LADZ DA SKULLZ LADY HAS GOOD NEWZ
WWWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGHHHHH!
Yes its all old man yaoi
That's why its called Old Man Yaoi 40,000
Alternatively
We got Trazyn and Orikan, Abaddon and Loken, Argel Tal and Kharn, and Dantioch and Pollux
And probably way more
Any recommendations for an arbites book? Really interested by the trailer.
I dont know any actually
There are books with arbite character in the I'm pretty sure but don't recall any about them specifically
Those are not arbites
Yeah enforcers are a different thing
They are
Why the hell is it called that
Also arbites and enforcers are diffrent
But yeah that’s like the only arbites books
Lol
I dont know If they are any good though
I always wondered, what's that gun she's wielding on the cover? Barrel reminds me of Volkite weapons?
No idea. Maybe one of the weapons geeks in here knows. My suspicion at first was plasma pistol. But i honestly dont know
Arbites always looked like male sisters of battle to me
i'm almost done with warhawk and i'm kinda excited for the next book
i've never read an ADB book
ADB is an extremely peak writer so you're in for some good stuff
Echoes of Eternity is one of the best books in Siege
i will finish it one of these decades
The audio books are great
They are voiced by Raphaels VA from BG3
He does a great job with capturing the character of the Night Lords
master of mankind was so fucking peak
echos of eternity too
Echoes was mid. Read Legion instead.

hi guys, i wanted to get into the 40k lore so i bought two omnibus (the eisenhorn and gaunt's ghosts ones) but now i see that apparently there are short stories missing in the eisenhorn one, did i do a mistake ? do u guys usually buy the individual books or the omnibus ?
I can’t wait for it to have this momentous invention not work or be destroyed by the end
not yet
Damn
Just read the short stories on 4pleb.

I finished Above and Beyond recently and I was pleasantly surprised. It was a really engaging read and an improvement over Outgunned imo especially in terms of characters, all of whom I loved in this book. I enjoy that the stories follow a propagandist too since it gives a unique insight into the operation of the Imperium.
Its probably one of my favorite 40k books for tha treason.
Its actually insane how much it goes up compared to Outgunned, i think its a good 1st Book in the series so to speak but Above genuinely goes places I did not expect lol
Shard is still a cunt but I get why she acts the way she does to some degree now at least

I do love stories where the central characters hate each others guts but form an unbreakable bond. Hoping the future books maintain this quality
Yeah same here, also if you want more id suggest reading the Shorts with Shard
They actually set up the stuff you see in Above which the moment I learned I actually dropped the book, read these, then continued reading it lol
The Trial one is kinda whatever but Starstruck and Own Worst Enemy are very fun.
I'll be sure to check those out then. Also small thing but I do love how Above and Beyonds cover looks like an in universe propaganda poster. Like I could imagine that being the poster for one of Shards movies
Yeah same with Outgunned its a touch I really liked.
even funnier when Simlex meets Shard and goes "Damn shes not as pretty in person, weird"
women
Is thousand sons chronologically before galaxy in flames?
Wait not thousand sons
Im thinking of fulgrim
It takes place in a time frame before Galaxy in Flames and then afterwards
Also I dont recommend Fulgrim unless you like a "It's so bad it's kinda good" book
Im also the worlds biggest Graham McNeil hater
Ive read it
Im so sorry
Just been rereading galaxy in flames and remembered that lucius got the scars in fulgrim first half
And meh, I havent read anything that I couldnt finish
And enjoy to some degree
Again it's one of those things that I consider "So Bad its good" I think Fulgrim has a couple good ideas and scenes in it
The confrontation between Fulgrim and Ferrus was really good and got me invested until more Graham McNeil-isms showed up and made me go :/
Ok but I dont get what makes it so bad
Like there are few books that people are saying are super dookie but eh, like one of the og trilogy has been described as a slog but I just dont see it
Cant remember which one it was
Dark Gods probably
Og trilogy as in horus rising, false gods and galaxy in flames
I was thinking False Gods
Horus Rising was great and Galaxy in Flames is decent I love a lot of the scenes in that story
Probs yeah, it does take it's time but I especially enjoy the stuff with the remembrancers and how the power dynamics of the legions and armies shift
It does kinda have one character I wish they didnt kill off and that's karkesy but his death does play a role in what comes next so eh
I just liked the guy
In regards to Fulgrim, I personally dont like it for a few big reasons. I think it's a really one dimensional and kinda disinterested look into the 3rd legion and their decent into chaos. It feels like it boils down the Emperor's Children to a bunch of arrogant, egotists which is TRUE, I don't think they caught the varying degrees about how Legionaries try to pursue it outside Tarvitz. Fulgrim is really really really mishandled as a character. The book is named after him and it does very little to have the reader connect to him and his struggles of the burden of perfection he placed upon his self and asks you to feel something when things go south for him on Istvaan in his emotional arc. My biggest point though.... it's really really really weird about women. I know a lot of Warhammer has varying degress of misogyny but that one goes on a whole new level
But that's a criticism on McNeil as a whole
Man is consistently weird about women in every book Ive read of his
Yeah totally agree abt the latter part, but I might have to read more abt fulgrim in general to get a wider picture but IMO the book does a half decent job portraying his insecurities among his brothers and emotional states that lead to his fall. Cant remember the exact part but there was atleast one dialogue part where he talks to one of his brothers and how his words wound his ego and he tries to play it off as kinda jokey but is hurt and kinda seethes about it for a while and everything kinda just piles up on his ass while everyone is losing their shit on slaanesh sex parties but it aint the worst piece of fiction ive ever read
Galaxy in flames does a great job in portraying how divided the emperor's children legion became, tarvitz representing the good guys who reject the wacky gene mods and heresy and the rest openly embracing that stuff and how horrified tarvitz is when eidolon shows him the lab
On a side note my favourite portrayal of an emperor's children is Teke from bequin books
I think my favorite bit with it is how people say its a really gross and disgusting book, especially the finale/climax bit when like... its just a generic violent chaos murder-party thing? I legit had no idea why people were being so queasy about when the sexual and violence subjects in this book are genuinely very tame lol
It is very slaanesh if nothing else
its like, normal levels of that sort of stuff I'd expect in a book like that tbh
Yeah I guess im just not that affected lol
I'd choose slaanesh for the excess of dino nuggies
Yeah the opera is like a good scene but it's nothing gut wretching
It's like how people talk about the Night Lords books disturbing them
Its like
I get it not being everyone's cup of tea
But its still GW and nothing goes over the line
But Graham McNeil really fucking tries
He really does lol
Going into 40k books from Fantasy is also funny because WHF is like really casual in its sexual/violent stuff, you can tell the authors just go all in.
Meanwhile in 40k I gotta read how a person is getting flayed for the 1039456th time, very spooky.
Yeahhh like in Skavenslayer, Thanquol fucking flays people alive with his magic and half the time its kinda humorous
looks at how many hours have passed since the last chat
It's monday morning, people were asleep and at work, don't you dare to post dead chat
people say that about fulgrim? maybe my standards are beyond normal human comprehension but it was so tame to me
Yeah a lot.
"Omg it was so disgusting I could barely read the finale!"
like, really?
i remember the snake orgy sword area more than the ending
People will take it differently, depending on what they imagine in their head.
But with how much flaying there is in 40k, it's just whatever to experienced readers
Grossest thing I remember about Fulgrim was imagining how that painter lady’s apartment must have smelled.
night lords books have better scenes of torture smh
Average lgs smell experience
See there any psyker books?
🚬
no
closest you can get to is soul drinkers
oooooooor that psyker knights order if it has any books?
Well, any books with a prominent psyker in it?
yeah Gregor Eisenhorn
What about a navigator book?
Night Lords trilogy
Rites of passage
Cadian blood features a guard sanctioned psyker quite heavily
Sounds like it will be sad
Revolves around the family drama after the head of a Navigator house passes away. Haven't got round to reading it yet though
Nooo
Well pariah nexus was awesome, a novel with a feel like that would be nice
There are no good novels for that
Yet(maybe)
That’s mostly rulebook lore
If you want a baseline introduction to the imperium eisenhorn isn’t bad
the entirety of the horus heresy chronological order
listen to each book back to back
Cya in 2 years
Do not
5 years actually
then get burt out so much you need a 5 month break
actually
It’s not bad imo
It’s by brooks
And I’m brooks number 5 hater
it was only about 10 months for me
But it’s like not bad as a book
audio books help
It is that good?
No
I hate his books mostly
lol
But I find rites of passage tolerable
So I’d say it’s a fine/good book
i skipped two
Rites of Passage is great and not a sad book
Its very fun and the protagonist is a cranky navigator lady who wants to beat anyone annoying with her cane
Its by Mike Brooks who writes a ton of fun warhammer novels, they are grounded while not taking the setting too seriously and acknowledging its silliness.
Do not listen to the lies Elite is spewing
🫡
A NAVIGATOR???
why is this the first time i hear of this?
Because you cant read summaries.
🫡
😠 you never suggested it before
im still burnt out ok?!
: )
Alrighty
Found a pdf
Imma read it laters
Navigators are cool
yo! I'm bout to buy some books and I wanna know if siege of vraks and a deathkorps novel
are different books, right?
And everyone who's read his book about the Lion says its a really good study on the character
Yeag, Siege of Vraks is a set of forgeworld books that are written like historical accounts
and deathkorps novel is a collection of stories?
I believe so I havent read them
cause from what I see on the store page they both got the same page number x_x that's why I was a bit surprised
Dilara is wise in such things
@tall phoenix? (sorry for the mention)
What does the collection look like?

i think they are different
cuz different authors
Yeah its a collection
i'll get em anyways
they got a refund policy so =d
Lol yeah a lot of Krieg books are unfortunately not that good/mid.
Id suggest to just get Dead Men Walking personally but you try em still
🫡
Next step in the HH
And yes, this is an old copy, way before the central edit
2010 If i read it correctly
how's siege of vraks/a deathkorps of krieg novel?
It's alright midish, with some bits I really like. Overall I prefer the Imperial Armour versions tho
^
100% go look up the Imperial Armor version
the novel does a huge injustice to the entire campaign
The novel focuses exclusively on the death korps
Which is odd
It glosses over a ton of stuff as well
Unfortunately he wrote the Huron book which is probably one of the worst interpretations of the character ever lol
1 novel doesnt outweigh most of his W's
step down or be destroyed

Sure
Genuinely I think Brooks does best at Orks
The leilith book is fine
Sons of the forest is fine as well
I wanted The Lion being a violent psychopath not King Arthur in space
Okay
Smh
I hate the Lion so no comment
very fun book and I'm only like halfway thru it
I’m making you read his Alpharius book
I read it
Oh wait the Alpharius one
💀
Its so good
again i like that he doesnt take the setting so seriously
Yeah I do like that part of his writing
I just think he’s not great at character writing mostly
I was about to say it's a murder mystery with a lot of fun characters to read
maybe, maybe not lol. I'd say it's objectively not bad at the very least. idk if I've read other Mike Brooks books tbh
you might notice something I didnt

Rites of Passage, Mike Brooks
Thanks
This one
I like Mike Brooks :3
Hes PEAK
i really liked this one
my favorite thing aboyt the lion is that hes not dorn
mine is the crying rock
rok that makes u old
Talking about books is making me consider actually restarting my 30k fanfic
And actually getting something written besides haphazard notes
Yeag Terran Raven Guard outcasts guarding a fortress world and not knowing the Heresy started
maybe you can finish the subplot of ingo pech and john gramaticus
Until some traitors (Iron Warriors and a Dark Emissary of the SoH) show up and are like "Join us and give us the fortress and all the supply lines you are wardens of or we will take it by force" and the Terrans are put into a place of weighing their loyalty to horus or the primarch that cast them out
imma be real i dont know too much about the raven guard since they have like 2 books
Fair the RG are not that inch resting
theyre not bad i like shiruken
Tldr The Terrans are rhe best part of their lore. They were drawn from nomadic people's who were kinda Conan adjacent. They loved stealth and subterfuge but were really violent about it and liked taking slaves cause they sucked. They fought with the Sons of Horus a bunch and adopted cthonian traditions. When Corvus finally showed up and saw his legion, he was disgusted with them because they reminded him of the slavers from Deliverence. They ended up dying off from their own stupidity or being cast out to garrisons and predation fleets
That's where the Ashen Claws and the Space Sharks can draw their origins from
They suck and I love them
They're great big dirtbags, I'm a big fan
Theres also some ethos there for the few thay genuinely want to fight for their legion and primarch knowing that they are hated and how that might drive them to take up the traitors banner
Like the Deliverer terminators are interesting because they still are present in the Legion proper and nobody likes them but they still fight on the loyalist side. I think loyalists who stay loyal out of spite are my fav
Isnt john gramaticus the most famous imperial fist?
Oh wait it must have been some other grammar related pun name
Rhetoricus was a member of the Imperial Fists Chapter.[1]
He was a highly-regarded scholar, considered second only to the Imperial Fists' Primarch, Rogal Dorn, when it came to battle strategy. He codified the Chapter's modern approach to battle, penned across a number of tomes. The most notable of these was The Book of Five Spheres.[1]
Who I was thinking of
💀
WHAT
Hypothetically if you were to recommend a 40k book to someone who knows nothing about Warhammer, what book would it be
Horus rising
And they have no specific faction interest? Probably something like 15 Hours or some Warhammer Crime
A grim repast then
or eisenhorn or gaunts ghosts or something like that
descent of the angels
it tells a basic story from the pov of two cousins as they age
no warp fuckery no space travel
and it introduces other basic concepts
Dilara is gonna rip you apart for that take lol
Warhammer crime
Bloodlines
she can not kill me in a way that matters
I somehow just learned Warhammer Crime exists
I just got Bloodlines on audible, gonna give it a listen
Crime is extremely good
It got to the point that I made my own custom anthology compendium of some of the best Short stories in it into a single epub/pdf since my friends asked for some good starting points in it lol
I've been wanting to make a 40k OC who's a detective too, that's the weirdest part about me never learning about Warhammer Crime
Oh man you will love Crime then
its literally just hive city noir lol
well some are but it basically has some inspector stories in it
The book is literally just called crime?
I am sold
Its a genre, its called Warhammer Crime
its set on a single planet with multiple stories
some are singular novels (like 3-4 of them) and others are anthologies aka mostly unrelated short stories compiled into a single book
theres way more of those
Which planet?
Some madeup shithole, Alecto
Are the detective stories the kinda stuff you can read and try to solve the crime yourself as you read?
All the planets are made up silly
Depends on the story in Crime but yes
Almost all
Lovely
What is it?
Its Columbo
the joke is hes a detective!!!
Thought it was a contextual gif that's meant to be a reference to the conversation AND be the thing you wanted to say at the same time
Probably just looked up "columbo" and that was the first gif
So Jaghatai cut off mortarion's head
but i'm assuming he comes back cause daemon prince immortality
Are you gonna ask-
Yeah lmao
Basically never forget, Daemon Primarchs exist to get killed.
They can respawn indefinitely, so it doesnt matter.
does that mean mortarion is basically out of this fight for good
Yeah he is
😌
LOL
