Terminal overkill a Necromunda book is probably on the closest to what you explained so
That's the best i have remembered
Honestly it's a gamble on my part but that's the closest of the top of my head that i can remember
If it's not then i shall now challenge archaeon the ever chosen on a fist fight

alright, thanks
damn i love to see common life, and not some space "plastic men" and SUPA SPY boring ahh operations
Too true.
well eisenhord adventures were not boring but still
Crime is probably the best look you are gonna get at that.
so probably just spin the wheel and see where it lands
gamba
🎲
the character who spat it out is well written overall
it just makes sense
fun as hell
God i forgot his name he had like the most scumbag one
Absolutely yeah.
the guy who was dragging him to the ship is tragic as hell
Forl is the name i think
did that bitch kill his family?.. i didnt quite catch it
in general is was quite hard for me to read bri'ish english with all the fancy words decribing stuff
I literally pictured him as Clint Eastwood
heh, i understand the vibe
Same. As for the family bit nah
but Clint is way cooler imo
She was talking about A family she murdered for lolz
Since shes a sadist
And stores peoples last moments in her brain
yeah i got that she killed some family, but i was not sure about Forl's one
awright thx
No worries
"awright"

new word
Lmao
from the book
It has a lot of good words
i cant remember any other one...
awright or all...right
its spelled like this in the book a few times
a w r i g h t
i was referencing olly he says all-right a lot
Ugh
Brother ugh
and off he goes
Good ending
-1 genstoleier

evil moderators took it from us 😦
Literally 1984.
literally 40000.
😭
how do we feel about angels of caliban?
master of mankind is kinda hard to follow maybe thats why i seem to be having a hard time paying attention to it
it's the last day to download kindle books from amazon site btw yall
if that sort of thing is important to you
It's just alright. The fight between Lion and Curze is cool tho.
If you're super invested in Imperium Secundus then it's worthwhile. You'll also need to read Ruinstorm to complete the arc.
I really like the melee between the Lion and Curze
And their sons
It’s almost slapstick
"Guilliman reached out a hand of comfort but the Blood Angel avoided it, brushing a hand across his brow to smooth away his hair."
Guys, is lion son of the forest any good? wanna buy it, have soul catcher and 3 books of eisenhorn
Its okay/good.
Buy it if you really wanna read about the Lion honestly, not much to it otherwise.
i just like dark angels, and its one of books we have recently published in my country
If you like Dark Angels then buy it yes, its a lot better compared to the other novels they have gotten over the years
theres like only 30 i think, they started been published i think 2 years ago
^
As long as that’s not a deal breaker
i dont care about that im not the best at lore tbh. i just think dark angels look cool and they are a first legion
Lmao
you should probably know some stuff before heading in
otherwise you are gonna be like extremely confused
should i get more into dark angels lore?
I mean yes
the book is literally about their primarch and legion secret
BUT GOOD NEWS
The Dark Angels were the I Legion of the twenty original Space Marine Legions. Their Primarch is Lion El'Jonson. After remaining loyal to the Emperor during the Horus Heresy, this legion was later re-organized and divided into several Chapters during the Second Founding. One of these chapters would keep the original legion's name and assets, tho...
Lion El'Jonson, also known as The Lion and The First[15], is the Primarch of the Dark Angels. He was scattered along with the other Primarchs to the far corners of the galaxy. He finally came to rest on the world Caliban, a beautiful but blighted world tainted by Chaos due to its proximity to the Eye of Terror. Lion El'Jonson was renowned for a ...
i mean, i dunno about inquisition except they are inquisition and eisenhorn was really good
Just read these wiki summaries and you should be caught up.
Well yeah because the Inquisition is a flexible organisation that all do their own thing, they are not strict and require much knowledge aside from you knowing what they do.
Thanks! Gonna read them before buying

Largely just skim-read Lion's stuff to learn what he is doing
Just dont read here in his page, its all book spoilers.
For the Dark Angels just get their general gist and you should be all set up.
Okay, thanks for the help! Gonna ask more questions in future when gonna get more books!
Lion son of the forest is indeed very good
dark-caliban
lion el jonson woke up?? dam...wish I was strong enough to do that
Mood honestly
Eepy
gone woke...
LMFAO
I can fall asleep at a moments notice and yes this is a threat mister president
i am become eepy, the drinker of milk
God it’s so funny they made this animation and it almost never shows up in game
Ikr, it also implies so much
Screamers being able to sleep is so fucking funny
HE LOOKS SO PEACEFUL TOO
also, i lied. we only have 18 books published, and half of them wait to get more made bcs they kinda popular i think

Yeah this is why I just download online tbh
woah dilara that's illegal
You have e-reader?
I meant from BL you dingus
Yeah I read it on my phone
Fucker did 85 damage to Idira it is not forgiven smh
oh no, i meant like this book tablets. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E-reader
tried from a phone but just cant, feels weird and cant find not too small not too big of a font
Lmaooo nah yeah I just use my phone
Ah see thats the thing
on mine you can expand the text lol
💀
I just get the epub from BL
Upload it to my private discord dumping server
Open my phone
Download it to the epub from there
i love how downloadable files are like 5 times as expensive from BL
the enemies can sleep?
It’s a passive animation they do
Before combat or outside of it
Or rather screamers do
It’s just that
Screamers are an insanely niche enemy
So it’s funny they even have that animation
yeah
Screamers are kinda qt not gonna lie
I fucking hated fighting them in the Saim Hann campaign in warhammer tacticus lol
Aw hell no not Tacticus 😭
Its fun, just very grindy
well yeah its a phone game
Its on pc now too lol
What are some good T'au books?
Elemental Council the new one is extremely good
Aight ill check it out
A couple excerpts from the Salamanders omnibus describing Vulkan He'stan's sheer aura levels
Damb gamers, The House of Night and Chain is a little slow

my favorite line is still "The Lion... Why did it have to be the Lion?!.."
but there is nothing misogynistic or racist
theres already plenty
i like it because it shows basic emotions like frustration between primarchs
peak
ruinstorm is really good so far
angels of caliban is kinda w/e until the end
its not bad but it can not hold a candle to master of mankind
I'm taking a break of the heresy. I've started Black Legion by ADB. It's nice
I applaud your good take, cladman

💀
you guys just enjoy blowing up any non hateful opinions i have towards books you hate

average people's reaction everytime Clad Speaks his opinion
Nightlord books spoilers: ||Why is the the new marine at the end called Decimus? Decimus implies the tenth right? Father is the seventh and mother is the eighth and the son is tenth? Am i missing something here?||
||there was a Nonus, he didnt last very long||
Oh lol
Has there been any new xenos books lately? I’m waiting for the new grotsnik book and new farsight book and am struggling to find stuff in between
I’ve almost read through every crime book after running out of xenos and admech books
Elemental Council I think is the most recent
||Maruc from "Blood Reaver" was 9
I didn't actually realise he died until I wondered why I hadn't heard of him in the final book lol||
Elemental Council, Lelith book, dark coil anthology has Xenos stuff, High khals oath and a red gobbo short story
for like
the last year of releases
Though dark coil is a mind fuck
so maybe don't read it
I'm not sure what you mean by lately
tbh
so I just gave a broad selection
||Omg, i completely forgot about him. That makes sense now. He didnt really do anything. He showed up and died lol||
||Well, he was there to give the perspective from a "normal" person, not to be action hero lol||
ADB had to get the number to 10
Can we just appreciate how well Dan Abnett did with his inquisitor series
Eisenhorn was amazing, though the massive time skips were a 🤏🏻 of a problem
But then he made Ravenor
And Bequin
And with each series, the writing just got better
Ravenor gave more spotlight to other characters
yeah it's amazing how each book gets better than the one before
And Bequin - Penitent has one of the best scenarios I've ever read in a 40k book
it really is
I'm so ready for Pandemonium
any day now
I wish he did book signings
I legit would love to have him sign these
Eisenhorn made me cry at one point
It's crazy cause ||Tobias Maxilla dying had me 😢, and he wasn't even a main character||
xenos i think honestly is the perfect 40k book
I really liked Malleus
I honestly love that each time there's a chaos space marine, Dan can really put it into perspective of how terrifying they can be compared to normal humans
Like in Xenos
And Bequin Pariah
100 million % 💯
And it's only one single chaos space marine
And then there's the first Gaunt's Ghost book, where they kill multiple
I actually forgot that part
I rememebr the stc and chaos robots
I would also highly recommend Assassinorum Kingmaker by Robert Rath
He also wrote Fall of Cadia and The infinite and the divine
It's a good book about knights on a knight world and officio assassinorum
Is it true that the dark angels books arent really good
A lot are not yes
Imo
Of the big four chapters they definitely got the worst end for their books
contradictory to that is the new-ish Lion: Son of the Forest book, which is excellent and a starting point (hopefully) to a new kind of era for Dark Angels
Imo it’s fine, the dialogue is pretty meh and it doesn’t do any work to explain why the Lion is different now
The action is well done though and it’s not boring at least
Well you do hate Mike Brooks so this opinion is definitely uh "something".
Agreed though its a rare DA book I actually found fun for once.
The early books of theirs back in the day made me way too jaded 💀
I think dark angels definitely have the coolest lore
But it doesnt seem like they'll be too fun to read in 40k
Its because Gav Thorpe does what he does best.
Pick faction
Repeat their gimmick as the plotpoint constantly
with DA its Fallen Fallen Fallen Fallen Fallen
the fallen stuff gets quite boring quite quickly, but the Lion book does something interesting with it finally
Yeah I heard exactly that
Yeah like you just wanna read a book about the chapter doing some basic marine stuff.
But nope surprise its Fallen
Im glad it actually also acknowledges finally that yes loyalist Fallen exist.
Thank god
when all we got was generic McBadguy Fallen in like literally everything who isnt Cypher
(which is mostl ybecause Fallen are a chaos faction on tabletop so GW prob never allowed writers to move past that lol)
Imagine the ultimate generic book
Space marine main character that's going through something
Getting a mcguffin that can change the tides of multiple wars but it gets like obliterated to this something
And then the enemy was a chaos fallen
I can see it now the ultimate space marine generic book
Yeah Dark Angels are also genuinely cool.
They just turn into cartoon characters the moment you add Fallen into the mix
i love their aesthetic and lore
which is dumb cause Fallen are a lot more complex than that
From what I understand, a lot of them arent really even true traitors
they're just confused
That's the thing in warhammer it very rarely goes to deep
Wide as an ocean deep as a puddle
Yeah realistically speaking all Fallen have their own motivations for going rogue. We just get Chaos ones constantly because 40k cant ever have nuance in non-mainline factions
Can we talk about how great ciaphas cain was
i havent read ciaphas cain yet
like legit comedy and wonderful
Caine's books are good but too repetitive imo
I actually havent read any 40k books yet, I started Horus Heresy and I'm determined to finish it first
I read 6
All of the books have the exact same plot but you change out the names
I mean the same can be said for gotrek and felix, but they do their job and usually have enough variety to make it through
They have excellent writing, but yea, it gets repetitive
I love them but most of their adventures is red haired dwarf wants to commit suicide and so the blonde follows
When im done with HH, I'm gonna read cain, the inquisitor books, night lords, and fabius bile
maybe ahriman too
yes they are on the list
I am looking forward to them
I think I got the order right
Bequin is SO GOOD
First 3 Eisenhorn then ravenor then the fourth eisenhorn book then bequin
Sure
I went all 4 eisenhorn then ravenor,
Magos was nice
it was the first in the series where I actually pictured the whole place they were in, in my head
I'll always rememeber that
When the details are so good you can completely build the area in your mind 😌
I love that
I'm on Saturnine atm for siege of terra
I just have 8 more books and then siege of terra and I can get to it
Gonna get through these then do gaunts ghost (i'm on book 2)
Ive heard saturnine is amazing
It's one of the better ones
Im currently reading Angels of Caliban
I think im skipping that one
Cause what I hear
from what i was told
Mortis is really bland unfortunately
I liked Mortis, titan stuff is interesting to me
yeah i was told that as well
You’re not missing much skipping it
are there any interesting characters povs or anything
There’s a few things
I like titan and knight stuff. I really loved that aspect of Assassinorum Kingmaker
Is the dies irae in it, I heard it shows up again
How the knights have a mind of thier own
It's neat
They can decide if you pilot them
I assume it's the same for titans
I think so
It's the titan in the cover art so yeah
Thought so
I havent read any ADB books yet but I have his night lord omnibus
The last HH book I read was tales of heresy, then i started siege
I got to finish Angels of Caliban, then praetorian of dorn, master of mankind, crimson king, ruinstorm, wolfsbane, slaves to darkness, and buried dagger
my current list before I get to siege of terra
It is but
It barely gets shown doing anything
Literally cuts before the only big fight it has really
💀
It’s one of the most frustrating parts of the book
ayooooo
im doing ruinstorm rn
im super hyped for buried dagger i wanna hear in detail how ||that bitch mortie surrenders to nurgle because his tummy hurts||
Gonna be disappointed then

Fake fan, he was called Typhon before joining Nurgle
Yeah but he was always Typhus
they just saw the name and went "Nah okay we gotta edit that out for his origin story"

He was always named Typhon
Bro he surrenders so his sons don't suffer anymore
Then he gets dunked by anyone that duels him for every following piece of lore
It’s almost like
He hasn’t read the book

And that’s a spoiler for it
Wow thanks for ruining the book Pag
not like literally all of this is known by most of the fandom
I'm late to the party, but I thought it was cool that Lazarus was like, maybe we could be more effective if we didn't always run off after every rumour of a Fallen and instead focused on what we were doing.
And sent his whole company to its death 😂

I was entertained.
Same. It was fun
Its pretty okay
I'm close to finishing Saturnine and I know Dorn about to fight Fulgrim
That's GOT to be better than pretty okay right???

Like
if you enjoy one-liners i guess???
I didnt think much of it, most people will prob like it
One line is all i need
smh this is why i started posting only about books i finished
yall cant help urselves
Yeah spoilers
the traitors fail in the Horus Heresy
also the obvious villains are always obvious villains
shocking I know
i know 😡 but you people are spoiling minor details as well

I apologize.
I still gotta find the Ravenor books 😭
Good luck
Spoiler, Emperor has a chair
I have finished The House of Night and Chain, it begins pretty slow but ends well
I can never figure out if I like David Annandales writing though
One of the best 40k books i read
I legit went in expecting a normal aeronautica nevel but got like a huge adventure book instead lol
Right! Have you read outgunned?
I read Outgunned, all 3 Shart shorts and then Above and Beyond
Shart is such a piece of shit but man its a fun series, i almost hope it doesnt get a 3rd book yet also kinda do lol
Awesome, I need to try and find the other ones on her. It took me a long time to like outgunned, but it picked up near the end. Now I’m hooked on the two characters. I feel that too. Also yeah, she definitely is lmao
Yeah thats the thing, Shard is just an asshole.
Kile is at least EXTREMELY likable
even when you realise why shes the way she is in Book 2 i was still like "boohoo cry me a river bitch"

Exactly, and fair enough
. Does it explain the “family” situation with her in the short stories btw?
Trynna be as vague as possible loll
Uhhh what part of the story are you in rn
|| Kile is just with the other propagandist dude, and all the other “Shards” just got schwacked||
LMAO
Okay so id say actually drop the book and go read the 2 out of 3 shorts.
This is their chronological order. Trial is not bad but its literally "main character gets put on trial for execution for being a cunt but survives to the shock of no one", its pre-Outgunned.
Starstruck and Own Worst Enemy's are ironically a must-read before Above and Beyond but since you arent too into the book yet id suggest giving them a quick read, you can definitely finish them in like 20m tops.
Gotcha, are they on the BL website? I’ve only ever had physical books, so I’ve never looked into reading them anywhere else
Yeah they are you just need to type their name outright into the search engine

Are you gonna get them as epubs?
actually what am i saying they are Shorts, theres prob no other options lol
Bet, and not sure if I’d have the space on my phone, buuuut I’ll see lolll
Thanks 🙏🏻
No worries

The shorts dont explain the situation FULLY but they actually got stuff that is important to Above which is a rarity in most 40k plots.
Ok, cool cool
🫡

are there any short stories/novels about when space hulks first started appearing
No because space hulks are just random phenomena made for plot reasons.
Its like asking "when did rain first start to fall"

ya due to warp bullshit theyve been around for ever
👆
and are agglomerations of absolutely every kind of spaceship
read the death of integrity its absolutely sick
Nah, like I said spacehulks are just plot mcguffins.
oh damn
300 come out (they were pregante)
ill add it to the list

So above and beyond
read Outgunned and the 2 shorts after it first!

why is the lion such an idiot in the short story "The Lion"
he finds the death guard killing iron hands forces, invites typhus onto his ship, typhus declares hes loyal to horus, Lion lets him leave alive for some reason, and then immediately after Typhus starts doing heretic things
what was he thinking
I'd explain but im sure someone here will give a totally valid reason for his actions instead

His autism clouded his judgment.
Like all the Primarchs, he isn't written all that consistent. Blame GW.
"the lion.. why did it have to be the lion"
nuke macragge. fuck yeah!!!!
each primarch has a different brand of autism
Wait when we finally get to the fight on Caliban...in the next ten years.
ruinstorm is better than wolsbane but idk theres a bit too much padding imo
yeah
Here's the real answer btw
Why couldnt they all just be short stories
money
you will buy the siege of terra anthology
more john grammaticus slop
and you will hate it except for one story
I'm still trying to understand why they'd introduce an important character to the DA books only for the Lion to kill him in some random Primarch book that no one read (which also sucks).
Oh GW
Thats one of my favorite HH tropes
Random side character who largely has no purpose
No one bothers to off him so he ends up in like the most nowhere/random places and is just doing nothing
hello argonauts
LOL
hey they kinda had a purpose
mostly to go to Big E and beg him to not go super-saiyan
very important
I'm fine with Ole and his band of weirdos.
they did all this shit so a guardsman could get obliterated
Just a little goofy that they could take on Erebus for as long as they did.
I liked erebus
fr
when i am in a being a bastard competition and my enemy is Eresus
So I got a question. I got into the hobby around the very end of 8th (just before 9th was released) and obviously Gav has been around for a long time. Do people just hate his novels but enjoy the codexes he worked on or has he always been a meme?
Hold on lemme write a wall of text
Like he's been involved with some of the coolest codexes and campaigns but is a complete dud when it comes to his standalone books.
he's excellent at world building but when he writes characters stories they tend to be so boring you would think a dwarf made them
Dilara to the rescue
Yeah I thought as much.
Overall good idea guy but not the best when it comes to execution maybe.
And obviously those codexes involve multiple writers. It's not just him.
Gav is a brilliant rulebook and codex writer, and a veritable encyclopaedia on the settings. As close as you can get to the word of God within warhammer.
That said, he's just not a good long-form writer. He really struggles with making an engaging story last over an entire book, and his characters are flat, unimaginative and one dimensional. And incredibly naive/stupid despite all being tactical/strategic geniuses. Plus his combat scenes are generally written like a battle report (this isnt a good thing).
Essentially, he boils every faction down to “a thing”, and then writes that thing
So when he’s writing space wolves, it’s very Klaw McWolfensen rode atop his Thunderwolf with his Wolf Guard to go meet the Wolf Lord to stop the Wolf Time He's the reason for the DA Traitor meme because he made it their sole personality trait.
The eldar trilogy was a fantastic premise, and I love the concept of the three viewpoints of the one central story. He just didn't have the maturity at the time to pull it off. Couple it with the fact that BL have some absolutely amazing authors and it makes him look even worse than he actually is - because you get a glimpse of what it can be.
yeah another good example is his Votaan book
absolutely boring that one
The characters are flatter than a pancake and so 1 dimensional they cannot exist in the dimensional plane of 1 dimension
That makes a whole lotta sense. Been wondering about it since I've been watching a lot of Codex Compliant lately and he's in just about every episode. I've enjoyed some of his shorter novels like the Luther book but overall groan when his name pops up in a series I might wanna check out.
Yeaaaah Codex Complaint is a good showcase of that. Because in Codexes theres no plot you just write flavor text.
Then you read some shit like Wolftime and GOD

If it's for world building he can somehow write that shooting your head is considered an honor and somehow we would consider it peak Lore
But if it's for a story you would want to shoot your own head for how dumb it was written
I never read the Corax books but remember hearing about a cool scene where the Alpha Legion essentially stripped some armor and skin from the Raven Guard as a way to fool them which I thought was sick.
But then I heard the book just kinda sucks besides that one scene which was a big letdown.
Only Gav Thorpe could find a way to simultaneously fumble and cook at the same time.
Not sure that one is even in Corax's book
I thought it was a decent look at Corax and the Raven Guards tactics and the drama post Istvan but since it's a collection of short stories, there isn't much of an overall narrative
Ah womp womp
Sounds like it
Good?
Very
definitely has fun bits
^
also GK barely get any books as is so its worth a read
BLESS THE BOLT SHELL IN THE BLOOD OF PSYKERS
🗣️
You forgot the part where Hyperion was a drug addicted kid who was probably being [REDACTED]
Actually wait
That’s not in the omnibus

Anyways Hyperion is funny because of how dense/dumb he is at times
He’s also still alive

It’s very different each book and not in a bad way
It shows some extremely wild chaos daemons and effects
I didn’t like the third a ton but it’s not bad
Just, idk didn’t do it for me, the first two are great though.
Current WIP sailed over 35k words at the weekend. I remember how to write!
always a good feeling when you go back to an old thing and discover that you can still do it
Real, especially when writing 💀
Nothing like a deadline to focus the brain
really get ya locked in doesn't it
aye a good time is great
The only way i found the motovation to finish my master thesis. Cant wait for my phd project to start, that is sceduled to go 3 years (imma need artificial deadlines or imma have to write this 4 months before end start to finish 💀)
one cig per paragraph did it for my bachelors
Out of curiosity- how many people in here are taking part in the BL open submission this year?
im not
Thought about it, don't think I could write well enough
News from Cubicle 7, the authors of Wrath & Glory (the official 40K pen and paper RPG): a Darktide campaign set in Hive Tertium due to release in Q3 of this year.
The book / pdf will include a guide to the hive and its history, a selection of hive encounters, and “rewards of gear and status from the mysterious Inquisitor Grendyl” who will send the PC into the depths of Hive Tertium to face “traitor forces of the Moebian 6th, cultists pledged to the plague god Nurgle, and strange lost sects of the Mechanicus”.
More details: https://cubicle7games.com/warhammer-40-000-roleplay-wrath-glory-darktide-extraction
(the samples are legit and released by C7)
Yeah uh i got bad news
it got released for like 20 bucks a few days ago 😭
Check the link: it's available for preorder, not released
Applies to way more than just academics lmao.
#chainsmoking for the academic title
But-
I literally got a copy

feel free to spoil that one
if it works it works
It takes place on a hive city
and you fight Norgal

🤯
where can i find this?
Same
Warhammer community, just search the phrase open submission
if only i could write 😔
There's some good ideas, and I'm not sure if someone has made a book about them
The perspective of someone being made into an Astartes or custodian
Just show all the bad parts
The pain, conditioning, then if they survive, how much it changed them.
There's a specific theme this time
They have themes???
Doesn't hurt to try
Yeup
what is this theme
Clash
what is that
Could it be completely political and devoid of action
I mean probably
Word Limit: Your scene must not exceed 500 words.
Hmmm
Universe and Setting: Your scene must take place in one of the following settings:
Warhammer 40,000: Vigilus, Commorragh, or Armageddon
I don't know what characters are alive during this time
Both characters must have had a miniature made by Games Workshop at some point
Hmmm
It really is
if it was 1k id probably give it a go myself lol
Yeah I was helping my friend proofread his submission
and the limit is so obnoxious we couldnt add half of it

I ASSUME it will possibly be some codex flavortext
aka something you read on a box on the side
Is Valdor still alive ||Disregarding the Yellow King potential||
We dont really know. Hes stuck in a plot in Eisenhorn atm which takes place pre-Rift
Only thing i can think of to do is an interaction/debate between a sister of silence and custodian
hell yeah
do it
wait sisters of silence initiates dont have models
so you cant work in a translator
itll just be a monologue
the initiates have models?
like pre vow of silence
I mean their debate can be with the sister doing sign language
Like they do in the books
+This was a great fight+
yeah but it might be annoying to write that
Let me worry about that if I do write it
Just describe a mcguffin for 450 words then make it be destroyed in the last 50 words
If you wanna minimize awkard sign speech, you could write it from a 3rd person narrator perspective or from an internal thought monologe. That would limit it. But then again, it is only 500 words long. Whatever you write is gonna be so short, making it repetitive or awkard to read is gonna be more difficult than actually writing the damn thing. For some fuck ups you need space, and 500 words is no space at all
Lol. Knowing games Workshop that might actually win. Just be british enough in your writing style and theyll forgoe quality for entertainment. They always do. Sometimes even not on purpose
I can just put it in italics like this, I say with my hands, but no is watching.
True.
Just to note here in response to a handful of DMs I’ve had on the open subs - I’m afraid that as I’m technically still under contract with BL, I can’t read anybody’s entry: I’m so sorry.
Wait are you a writer?
And if so
Can you tell Dan to hurry up with Pandemonium

Nooooooo first The End and the Death: Part III: Part II: The Death of the End of the End and the Death
Did he ever finish the eisenhorn / ravenous / bequin storyline?
The good news is, only 6 years left!
worth it
Yes to writer.
And no to Dan, he’s his own person.
😄
so if i post my 500 word fan fiction of Roboute Guilliman x yvraine fanfic here, you cant read it if i also submit it
5 more years trust TRUST
uttering those words aloud should have you sentenced to somewhere awful
vulkan is literally doing the same in the fighting pits of commorrag
he moved on and left his legion...
I think i'm going to write an actual ||non-meme|| bl open sub
better hurry
I'll do my research tonight and write tomorrow. I have about a week left, right?
I've never written any stories but it should be fun for 500words
The worst is that you have pick 2 characters with models and one out of 3 locations. I've already chosen who and where but i would rather write about nobodies than an official character
Im pretty sure it has to be official characters.
its very likely like-
gonna be some codex flavor text on the side of a box somewhere or a minor section, it would explain why its so strict and limited.
We honestly need more comedy in the 40k writing
I agree
you get one joke every 5 books
the infinite and the divine is really funny if you've not read it yet
Or any of Mike Brooks' Ork books
Yeah 40k has lots of comedy depending on the book its just very black in humor lol
Guy Haley's Cawl books are pretty funny too.
Gambol want to play

people got a bit mad at that
I don't see how
It made sense and was great
SoS isn't gonna stand a chance against true champions
wolfesbane is really fucking good
like the story is kinda w/e but the writing is peak
ruinstorm was the opposite better premise but worse writing
I forgot that kharn had a kill counter lol
Curretly working my way through the Horus Heresy audio books, I have a quick question - is the Siege of Terra series included in the HH or is that a separate thing? Or once I've finished the HH do I just move on to the Siege of Terra? I'm confused where they fit in
it's a separate thing but it's after all of HH
HH ends at Buried Dagger, SoT starts at The Solar War
Great thanks!
I always smile when I remember this exchange. There is room for humour in lots of places - in the ‘real world’, humour is a coping mechanism and there’s a lot to cope with in the 40k universe.
Dan does the coping mechanism humour in the Gaunt's Ghost series really well too
lots of little stuff that will make you laugh out loud suddenly
Ciaphas Cain as well
Like the first book when him and Jerging first met
"Help me Commissar" -jerging
"Not a chance, I thought" -Ciaphas
Yeah, although Cain books are like 80% comedy and 20% serious stuff
which is probably the only series like that
Fair
Or Locephax to Valkia when she is reborn as a daemon consort.
“You look different. Did you change your hair?”
One of my fav bits from the novel lol
Locephax is great comic relief
He serves his job as a heel really well
the emperor really said ||here my wolf son this is the wolf spear of reconsidering your wolf actions i wont tell you why you have to have it but it may involve your other wolf brother||
nice book
look inside
its a McGuffin story
heres your comedy (small excerpt from wolfesbane no major plot relevance) ||He glanced at Gren. 'I said put your helmet back on. A lot of the marks I made were on weak points in the hull. If they're targeted, we will lose atmosphere. I don't want to have to blow air back into your lungs. You're ugly. I don't want to kiss you.' 'And he's got bad breath,' said Enrir. 'He can't stand it himself. That's why he doesn't want to wear his helm.'||

Space Marines Stink
how can they smell if they have no noses
"She's telling you to take a bath paper-face" laughed Voss
no clue
Are the Carcharodon books good
they're like 3€ each on audible
or at least the two available
I enjoyed them a lot
Also I think my mate Shogo narrates them on audible so woop
The McNiven ones anyway
yeah those two are on sale
avoid Silent Hunters
otherwise its pretty good
Red Tithe and Outer Dark are the ones on sale so might as well pick them up for 5€ total
Yeah those are pretty good
Silent Hunters is just-
"Lets use an autistic child to spot portals in a seperate dimension to help us get to Commorragh"

yeah they did that trope

also spoilers but ||everyone dies in the end, shocking I know||

I also read the book and im half-sure it also had a mcguffin plot
auguhghghghg
I cant even remember it was that bad lol
Avoid silent hunters
Literally one of the worst books I’ve ever read
should i skip titandeath?
It’s good if you like titans
titan death

oh nonono bros i wonder what the ||spear of reconsidering is gonna do||
(:
its not gonna do shit is it
Better keep reading to find out!!!!
I KNOW RIGHT
I want to read more of Robert Rath's work
I hear good things of the Infinite and the divine
His Cadia book pops as well
^
I do have Fall of Cadia
CADIA NEVER FELL....
XXIV IN THE WAR!
it doesnt work with roman numerals!
Roman numeral diff
2 chapters into Mortis, it's pretty good so far
I love the introduction to the Legio Ignatum princeps
And how connected he was to his moderati
Can I just thank you again for the nice things you say about that book? You are very awesome and I appreciate you.

Its one of my top warhammer books for a reason and me reading it in a bad place in my life helped a lot with a confidence boost.
(as much as of a boost as you can get with a psychopathic viking lady killing people
)
Al way ask yourself ‘What Would Valkia Do’.
💪
that's a big hand
the brain rotting power of krieg glazers are
immense
ITS NOT EVEN KRIEG THATS THE ISSUE
ITS JUST A BAD BOOK

I heard a lot of good things about Elemental Council but I guess as it's a Xenos book, not enough people read it for it to score higher than 4th place.
I wish there was a paperback of interceptor city
Dilara, this is warhammer, people will read the most slop induced narrative of all time and say peak
Eidolon wasn't really great either, people literally just vote based on the faction on the cover
Yeah let's be honest most warhammer fans didn't read those books and just decided that their faction needed to win
something
^^^
Eidolon's novel was like the most "whatever" thing ever, it 100% was most people looking at a cover and voting that way.
also like
That makes total "sense" unfortunately.
Morven Vahl and Lords of Excess???
those books are mid/bad as hell
im actually shocked by some of these lol
i feel like the only one that deserves its spot is Elemental Council
to be frank, there weren't that many excellent releases last year
Hey at least two Xenos books got into the top five which is more than I have imagined
one is good and the other one is good ish
Remember that the choice was limited in the books. I think the survey was those ten books, so the community votes have just defined the ranking.
WIll they make paperbacks for some
Terrible, just terrible 😭
what i'm surprised about is votaan on 6
I would like interceptor city and elemental council
i'm surprised people actually read that
Definitely, im sure most of these are on paperback already
considering that they are like
The new kid in the block so don't have that much people that like them
hell they still haven't even gotten a new model in the table top
besides like kill team or necromunda
another example why community voting sucks
Managed Democracy is the only solution

like man I loved the lelith book but even I can admit it does not deserve top 3 lol
but Krieg is just insane
but what does, there literally weren't many releases last year
yes
bastard
like Deathworlder and Inceptor City probably but I didn't read inceptor yet
you know me so well
Deathworlder was also mid
death!
it was a mid novel year
bro, Votaan book
which is the pinnacle of boring
got six
when they made the voting set I literally couldn't decide which to vote because none of the ones I did read weren't that great
RIGGED
I'm getting the impression all these books were very mid, therefore the order makes sense
Yeah pretty much
lol
Like out of all of these id recommend just reading Elemental Council and Lazarus
Lelith's book is good but its very much written for eldar fans
all of the others are just mid as hell
Even the Dan one
Inceptor City is kinda whatever
like, if you wanna read about fighter jets doing fighter jets stuff during the sabbat crusade its fine
otherwise like.... yeah lol
Is double eagle good
😌
Somehow this is the first time I see interceptor city
I wasn't even aware of it's existence
it okay
But the rest of the ranking....
February 22, 2025 is the most accurate i can get
Of course the KRIEGERS won
Yeah im 100% convinced they voted becaues:
"Omg I know vraks! It means this book has to be good!"
it isnt
Funny that I got my hands on siege of vraks this week
I recommend reading it to see how mid it is
why would you torture yourself
I know it's mid but I will read it so I can bash it
This is diabolical
I was surprised by the thinness of the book
hey hes got the book, may as well!
HE CAN STILL BE SAVED
Its too late for him
yeah my suggestions making it a paperweight or throwing it as a fire starter on the campfire but that's just me
I'm finishing black legion + it's follow up
Then it's a steve lyons double feature
Krieg + vraks
FYI the Vraks book is not like god-awful its just... very boring, which is in line with most of Lyons writing.
It reduces one of the best conflicts in the setting to like... some random twats running around in trenches when its SO MUCH more than that as a warzone.
Can't be worse than goto
Yeah nah like i said its not that dreadful
you will just read it and be like "well that was a book"
nothing in warhammer is worse than goto
The only truly boring book I read was The lost and the damned

he literally chalked a section of the lore so bad the games attached to it died lore wise
I stopped reading book 3 of Ciaphas, but I think I was just burned out on his writing after reading 3 in a row. Went back later and enjoyed it
Now I switch up books and authors
Don't wanna burn myself out on them
Yea, Ciaphas you have to space them out
I usually read 2 omnibuses in parallel when i'm starting a long series
Alternating between books
I made the mistake of reading both soul drinkers omnibuses back to back
Never again
It's either steve lyons or continuing the heresy
Next up is a thousans sons
I'm not looking forward it
thousand sons books arent bad
you have isaac ahriman and arvida
theyre such great chars
which way son of magnus....
Arvida was an absolute chad.
ahriman is great too
thousand sons have a lot of great chars
shame out their pappy
i wish there was a loyalist offshoot
i guess grey knights count but still
Ngl
Mortis ain't as bad as people make it out to be
So far...
I'm a 1/3rd of the way through
It's been pretty good
If you’re enjoying it though I’m not gonna begrudge you that
I started listening to gaunts ghosts today and i was thinking that the narrator sounded like one of the ogryn voices from darktide. Then the narrator did the same voice he does for the ogryn and i pogged irl
That's the reason I pogged irl when the voice actor dev blogs were released before the game's release
Watching the vid where Toby just rolls through the ogryn ult voice lines was insane pog
1 take, just did them all, absolutely awesome
What a pro
One of the smartest decisions
