One of my favorite moments in this trillogy. Shows you a little morsel of humanity left in the space marines while also contrasting, how far removed from the ordinary baseline humanity these gene wrought monsters are and how especially the night lords didnt really care about the human condition outside of the useful and expedient amount. The scene really ties a bunch of different themes of this book together and, like the Nightlords themselves, it is magnificent and terrifying at the same time.

Some books also came out over 20 years ago when Games Workshops outlook on the writing narrative was much more relaxed and satirical and they didnt really give too much of a Shit about narrative cohesion/continous and sound plotlines and authors get away witha bunch of shit. This especially shows If you read an original books (from like vol 1-25) and not one of the edited ones that came out a few years ago as a remaster along with the new ones
