Better late than never.
aughhhh
If the book does well GW can open the floodgates. The time of the diggy hole bois is now.
honestly sells well or not we need votann books
Which one was that?

LMAOOOO
Wolf Time is peak "Nothing; the Book"
we had like 3 people here over the course of a year actually read it as they went "eh nah how bad could it be"
then a week later it was just "Man i should have listened"

That sums up the HH pretty well funnily enough.
lol
Wolf time sounds like a funny meme
That space wolf fans would say when the wolves do something
when i read the name gav thorpe i was like "why do i remember that name" then i looked on my shelf to see what books i read by him
I think you mean “It’s Yiffing time!” - Logan Grimnar

I don’t know, I don’t play the Space Furries on tabletop.
Its not like its a new thing to call the, furries anyways
I cried when Leman Russ said "I will return at the Wolftime and Wolf all over those guys"
The Leagues of Votann are going to scream about how their ancestors have forsaken them and a railcannon magically bounces off of a rhino or something
Yeah you know what else went in the grudges?
The blood of thorgrim grudge bearer after he got killed because he forgot to lock the door
the dataslate of grudges
the blockchain of grudges

The final half of a two part reading of the marines Malevolent story ' Vengeful Honour '
On the war-torn world of Armageddon, the Marines Malevolent and Black Templars come to blows once again. When the battle ends, either Ballack of the Marines Malevolent or Vorda of the Black Templars will be dead… but by whose hand will the fatal blow be del...
Finished kingmaker
Very much so
Brutal kunnin or kunnin brutal?
Anyone got any good non imperial books to read? I’m fresh out
ever read William King's Farseer?
I don’t think so
oh boy
A washed up rogue trader and a farseer/his bodyguard on an adventure to the eye of terror
written by the author of the Gotrek and Felix series
give it a try
So in "dead men walking" , the planet and her populous accidentally awaken a necron tomb, didn't they?
Yes.
I'm currently reading the third chapter, it just sounds so much necron tactics I've seen used against me in DOW
The Cain books are fun
jurgen haiiiii
decently old iirc
Yeah it's quite sad that Jurgen, in universe, is just ignored in everything besides Cain's memoirs
Like in the movies about Cain, he explicitly gets pissed because Jurgen wasn't there
Although if they ever make a Cain movie
It would be funny if Jurgen was never name dropped
Like it's an in-universe film
So Jurgen never appears
Or appears but nobody ever says his name or acknowledges him except Cain
Probably doesn’t help that Jurgen is a special little guy with the ability to drive psykers crazy by just being in the same room.
He just smells that bad
valhallans rule
very shitty book art on them though
like wtf is that stitched leather shit
Honestly if they ever make a Cain film
Cain himself should have two actors
One should be like
A 6 foot tall muscular man. Like the epitome of 80's macho man stereotype
And the other should be just a normal looking dude, with tired baggy eyes. And the commissar clothes fitting him poorly
The former should show up in POVs like Sulla.
The latter would be when Cain is alone.
Jurgen and Vail would also see the latter but cleaner and more proper.
I think gaunt or Cain would be good for a series
Not a space marine though
Have a marine show like Vader at the end of rogue one and everyone runs in terror
Honestly I think a Chaos Marine should be fucking terrifying
Space Marines are already terrifyingly fast, strong, and intelligent
Now imagine one empowered with warp stuff, bunches of teeth and tentacles
Oh yeah and depending on the god
Still confuses me how a space marines juiced up on warp nonsense could lose to a regular marine
Either durable to the point where they're impossible to kill with anything short or a Meltagun/plasma (Nurgle)
Is it not just marine+?
Using sorceries that are past normal comprehension (Tzeentch)
Really violent, stronger, and faster (Khorne)
Or extremely skilled, drugged up, and also loud (Slaanesh)
Actually now that I think about it
Every Marine besides the Nurgle ones are drugged up in some manner
Three reasons
#1) plot armor. Yeah sometimes it's just this.
Apparently Marines can also choke an Avatar of Khaine also. Despite said Avatar being made out of metal and not being biological.
#2) They usually attack the chaos Marines in teams
They are stronger than your average marine. But not that strong to constitute like two of them. Unless if they're high up on the Chaos Totem pole like Abaddon or Typhus.
So normal Marines could just tag team them
Hell sometimes the Traitor Marines aren't too far in yet. So they're basically Marines with more spikes than usual
#3) A plasma gun will still fucking kill them. Most of them are still flesh and blood.
So y'know.
Fire a Meltagun til they turn to slag. Or two. Or three. Maybe 15 just to be safe...
Of course if they're higher up, this poses a greater issue. Also poses an every greater issue if they can use Psyker bs
It widely depends
Are they possessed by a Daemon? What god do they worship? How many "blessings" do they have? How high did they climb in the chaos totem pole?
How much of a protagonist is the protagonist
Stuff like that
Basically
If it's generic Black Legionnare #28278, they're basically the same as a regular space marine.
If they're possessed, they can wipe out an entire squad
I really like amberly’s editor notes in the caiaphas cain book
She would knowingly have left all of Cain’s embellishments of her and the long segments of him describing her beauty, but every time he criticized her she goes to defend it immediately
Girlbossing
Oh yeah also when Cain talks about his past flings, she gets pissy lmao
Like the Tech Priest
I just finished Angels of Darkness by Gav Thorpe
It was pretty good tbh, I feared it a bit because I've heard that Thorpe is a bit hit or miss, but I've enjoyed it
Yeah then your perception makes sense.
It only gets worse the more you read it
since you will see the exact same tropes pop up in every single book lol
Okay, so that's one of the reasons why he's disliked lol

yeah Thorpe's general problem is every dark angels book is mostly the same thing.
Fallen this, Fallen that, Fallen yo mom, Fallen on my ass
I've also heard that he likes to really fuck over the faction he's writing about
Uh it depends
with the DA he basically just makes them/plots boring
with the Eldar hes an amazing worldbuilder but the opening to the trilogy of them has an aspect warrior die from wooden splinters in full armor
And it gets much worse after that.
I'm curious to see how his Votann book will turn out
But currently I'm probably going to read Space Wolf by William King
What about Dark Apostle? I've thought about reading it for a while, and I think I'm going to read it after Space Wolf
Also very good, Word Bearer novels in general are pretty fun
yeah also evil people are funny
Wanted to share a 40k audio story channel I've really been enjoying lately called A Vox in the Void. His stuff is really good. Just the other day he put out a story about an eversor assassin. https://youtu.be/wJjMIwAfYvA?si=eXp4wYVlFLK-QqgG

Love that channel, super underrated
I havent watched lore channels in ages
Finished the first of the minka lesk series, so I’m looking for my next read. Kinda wanna take a break from the guard books (binged a lot of them) so any alternative recommendations?
We got some book recommendations in the pins if ya wanna take a look
Autarch: "Biel Tan will win this maiden world. The Imperium will despoil it no more! We will win this for Eldar kind, and become the rulers of the galaxy again!"
Seer: "...uh... about that. We're gonna be written by Gav Thrope."
Autarch: "We're dead aren't we."
Seer: "Yup."
imperial missiles somehow make sound through space
Autarch: "Well... at least I managed to get a box for my spirit stone."
explosion

Yeah honestly Gav Thrope writing for the Eldar is just
"Suffering builds character"
♻️
The problem is that for fiction, suffering needs to build towards something. Even if it's just horrific death.
For Gav however, it's just suffering
His worldbuilding is pretty good but thats pretty much all i can say about him lol
Bro should just stick to writing the rulebook fluff honestly

Why does caiaphas cain keep calling the hero of the imperium a coward? Is he stupid?
imposter syndrome
For somone as evil as bile I didn't expect him to be so civil in conversations or show compassion. I thought he would be comically evil.
He seems to really care about his creations
But he's also batshit insane
Bile is generally pretty civil
He also genuinely loves his New Men which makes him a better father then the emperor
Bile went to the Deldar school of
"Hey I'm not insane trust me"
Before doing insane things
Just finished Space Wolf
Really enjoyed that book, it was nice to read more about the space marine recruitment and training
its also important to remember it being like a super old 1999 book, King definitely puts a nice "adventure" flair to Ragnar's novels, the sequels are just as fun id say
I've also read first Gotrek and Felix Omnibus by him a while back, and it also was really fun
But now the question is, should I go with Avenging Son, or Dark Apostle next?
Dark Apostle
Avenging Son is basically Ultramarines the Novel
so up to you on the flavor you want i guess lol
Okay, gonna go with Dark Apostle as Avenging Son is a bit longer and I hope to finish it before going on vacation
Ye dark apostle is like a proper great depressing but funny dark comedy 40k novel, hopefully you'll like it.
Dark Apostle is part of a trilogy
So imo it might be better to do Avenging Son then it, they’re both good, very different eras though
Avenging Son is largely about the early Primaris and Indomitus
It’s technically part of a series but you don’t have to continue much especially since the series is very meh after like two books, Word Bearers is recommend reading the whole trilogy
After some thinking I've decided to just buy the books I wanted to read on vacation and start them now rather than wait till I go
I'll continue the Humble Bundle books later
Probably gonna start Twice Dead King now
dan abnett term that will never show up again:
chief servitor, a high spec servitor unit
How tf doe s that even work
Do they just like
Keep most of the brain intact or something?
Or do they mean that the Servitor unit actually isn't cobbled together and is equipped with actual decent technology
Who buys these
who buys 40k books? I do
Honestly it looks like it would look a lot better in person
the exposure seems to be way off with those pics
but the I&D is cheff's kiss
Me probably
Damn, the new Xbox looks sick
started reading false gods currently at the second chapter
i like it so far a lot more than horus rising
the writing makes it a lot easier to get a scene in your mind for whats happening and they dont use a lot of weird words
I wont lie and say the opening was very drab
I dunno how they managed to make titans boring, but they did
i didnt mind it whats his face was likable enough
and it was nice getting to the day to day of the crew after listening to titan lore on youtube
Then you’ll like what happens to him for sure
assuming it follows the path of all titan captains brain a jar
I can assure you its far from it
booking a cross country bus ride so i can read in peace rn
Kek fair
oh god that is hideous
Too bright
xbox 720 release predicted 2012
Don’t got time to read, that’s why I bought a little guy to live inside my phone and read too me
He does funny voices sometimes
Tiny desk toby longworth
now thats a warhammer horror story in the making right there
I've recently started to read The Twice Dead King, and what I find a bit funny about the book is the fact that Oltyx's subminds sometimes append various glyphs to their statement, which suggests that the necrons have and use emojis lol
They basically do yeah
along with having private brain-DMs
also literally emoting using their necrodermis to do faces
Just got to the part with private brain DMs lol
Also I find it funny how necrons censor flesh
It's great
Imagine having 5 different you’s in your head
(They all disapproved of your actions)
Also for real my favorite part of that series was in book 2 near the end
Spoiler
My man ||DENNET FINALLY SUMMONED THE MONOLITHS||
Hype as fuck
i cant help but smile when cawl says things like "not everyone hates me... do they?"
yet another word to add to the fucked up translation between english and french:
Bigot (english): somebody who is unreasonably attached to a belief
Bigot (french): somebody who shows a great devotion to something, oftentimes excessively
being bilingual with these two languages is utter fucking madness
hello
i was looking at the sites in the pinned comments
is starting with eisenhorn books a good idea to learn about the lore?
They are a very good point yeah, it will teach you about the basics of the universe to some degree.
its one of the most recommended books for beginners in general

Inquisitor books will typically show glimpses into a variety of different imperium roles, from the hive dweller to high lord. The Eisenhorn series is by far my favorite 40k series, Dan Abnett provides different POVs for each series/short stories. Best part is, the series is still on going!
Yeah it shows a ton of aspect of Imperial life, its recommend to new peeps for a reason lol
even if Abnett takes forever to write it 😭
GW is holding him back form bringing the best boy into the setting
very much so a good entry point
its both a good litmus test to reading warhammer: if you don't like eisenhorn Xenos' writing you probably wont like most 40k books, and a good place if your new to the setting; you don't need a lot of background lore knowledge: you can scrub most of the explicitly 40k stuff from the book and it still does a very good job of explaining itself and what gregor eisenhorn is doing and why he's doing it in a non-in-universe perspective (ofc not everything, but a solid 80%).
It's kinda like what iron man 1 is to marvel for warhammer books: you'll understand alot more with atleast a bit of background knowledge and get more of the references, but that is all hardly required reading
thanks
"Hey dan its games workshop we have 12 new projects we need you to get started on, yeah they're more important than working on the next bequin novel sorry"
Every day dan gets this phonecall
currently book 2 chapter 4 of HH
when does erebus die?
i cant stand much more of him
about that...
jokes aside spoiler about erebus origins ||Lorgar is so fucking badword badword badword for unironically allowing someone who has a tattoo of an entire grimore all over his body DID NO ONE THINK TO CHECK IT OUT BEFORE?||
ALSO ||how did erebus even become a space marine wasnt he too old when he lorgar took his planet?||
A lot of the legions took older men to be potential astartes. The chance of dying was way higher, but it was still something they could do.
smh so many chances for the best outcome
Erebus is supposed to be alive in the current setting and by the Emperors light I hope the lion or gman crush his head into paste
🏳️🌈
Love Apocalypse by Josh Reynolds because of that, subplot of a chaos warband lead by wordbearers being made up of both pro-Erebus WB's and pro-Kor Pharon WB's just fucking with one another back and forth until the end.
And then the dreadnought I will not name pissing on both
is krieg any good
its.... okay? some aspects are interesting but there are moments I asked myself "why do I care about this?"
mind you, It did not induce a visceral reaction from me to hate it like Fulgrim's book for the Horus Heresy, nor did I loathe the parts I didn't care about like I did for the hive girl segments for "The First Wall" by Gav Thorpe
its generally a really boring book
do not get it, or i guess just do it and regret it idk
"don't get it but if you want to suffer get it i guess"
what kind of advice is that

in the first wall are you talking about the whole story of the regiment that in the end it comes up they are fighting for horus?
I really hated those parts
I saw the twist coming really early on and it felt like wasted padding after that
i read the book early into my 40k career and it actually flew right over my head
even then it sucked
it just wasnt good
The problem is you go from some wild fight in the wall or primarchs strategizing to
“Back to train girl”
Where fuck all happens
Yeah the Siege books really suffer from this trope
back to train girl with… love interest?💀
Like you have fifty million characters we wanna see
and the story ends with just
“FOR THE WARMASTER” (End credits)
the literal planet is being torn apart and the traitors are tearing down Eternity Gate but... we need to see some fucknuts checking out the null-stone cells because ??? 💀
Why are we viewing this schmuck whose not doing anything. And I don’t mean Katshuiro
love Katsuhiro
hes my guy
do we know what happens to Kat (please dont tell me his death if its shwon😭🙏🏻)
We don’t
oh thank god
Seems unlikely he’d survive with how crazy it gets ngl but who knows
By the end it feels weird that anyone is alive lol
Yeah he survives to the end the series just treats him as "anyway big characters are here and im Dan Abnett so you dont matter"
then he just focuses on his fucking Eisenhorn OCs
so he basically fades out?
survived it all😭
Kat is honestly my favorite character
also
in the beginning of his story
wasnt there some people that were sabotaging? what happened to that
They aren’t brought up again
😭
they returned to their homeplanet, Alpharius needed them
they just faded after one book😭
Tbh that girl I don’t care much
Idk what else they would have done that would have been interesting
Didn’t need another detective plotline
But idk
dan abnett believes so
theres always room for a detective (or inquisitor in this case) in dans eyes
I wouldn’t have hated it being concluded but of the ones which got forgotten that’s one I don’t care much about
katsuhiro is just that guy
(or just a guy really)
didnt he talk to an important captain for like… 3 seconds
BA captain
I think uh Barthusa Narek is gonna get his story concluded with this new series
So that’s good
Rare good Kyme character
Yeah also carried a baby, whos totally not gonna grow up to die on factory fumes at some point
a true hero of the federation
i mean uh imperium
he survived angron, not many (maybe a lot) can say that
i mean shit
more people died than dust in the air
the only thing you have is luck
The End and the Fart deffo starts out good but man
i was losing my sanity by the end
lmao
when you start hanging titans as morale killers, that war becomes incredibly large
Yeah I loved the first part
i think my favorite passage was how the book says there were bodies piled like mountains of grain on an opening in the wall
and then it mentions those arent human corpses, those are titans
goofy ahh image but i liked it
thats a big ass hole
BRUH

also the most hilarious part for me i think was uh
Horus essentially
opening up the developer console
and respawning chaos marines
that shit was so funny
a funny part for me is that one remembrancer who was blinded, casually talking to sanguinius after his fav son dies protecting her
just 40k things
He didn’t die but yeah it’s a great scene
“by the throne,” “that was lord Sanguinius!”
like i get what abnett was going for but the last 3 books had so many goofy moments
the emperor vs horus stuff was peak comedy
Zephon actually ends up showing up again during the siege
he didnt die? shit
He was too busy taking a nap under a bunker
Cause they have to pull injured guys out of stasis they’re so desperate
oh wait i saw this
zephon just good like that
or bad
considering the events
isnt that the same scene where he has to walk past a lot of dead kids
He and Rann have a hallway fight
hes the Dude to exist
i feel like Raldoron is him

fafnir does get on a cover
He’s all of the space Viking with non of the wolfy calories
raldoron is best man
Also his model fucks
its okay
I love Ral entirely due to the fact that he kills a cringe night lord
he destroys him its great
“get off my wall”
bro legit thought he wa Him
and hes like “i dont know who you are, nor do i care”
Hes axes are a little too big, other than thats its alright
The zephon model though…..
"I can save your soul if you accept my deal"
"Ok sure"
"Good, now you are gonna get ass-fucked for 1000 years"
"NOOOO-"

“ok sure”
“(licks lips)”
“NOOOO-”
the audiobook should have played that tick-tock TF2 song and it would be pretty good
anyway pretty good scene
a lot better than "eat shit traitor"
LOL
hes been on my damn mind for weeks
Painted Count moment
Mkoll is genuinely the one human that deserves the him title
he damn near solos multiple high level chaos lords
dodges death
multiple times
He does look sick though I won’t lie
Mkoll is basically just Harper from Sharpe's Rifles so that checks out
he cuts a termi up easy before he fights the night lord too😭
Mkoll feels like a better mc than Gaunt, and im proud to have that opinion
Atramenter after being forced to bodyguard the biggest dumbfuck cowards in the galaxy endlessly for hundreds of years
Mkoll and Mkvenner are best bros
they are like if you gave stealth tactics of raven guard to reg humans
Kherion is pretty dope though
also a 30cm KNIFE is crazy
thats a fucking short sword atp
if only they met catachan
the catachan would be drooling
i love how they use a double edged 30cm short sword as a fucking dagger
and well
casually doubles the length of your lasgun by just attaching the bayonet
Just finished Twice Dead King: Ruin, and it was soo good
|| The conversation between Oltyx and Djoseras in the desert was peak, and all those moments when Oltyx entered the medium and we got a glimpse at how were the necrontyr, especially the one just before the biotransference of Oltyx ||
the book is PEAK in general
yup
Agreed
Any recommendation for a simpler Warhammer book? Dont care if 40k or AOS I just need to read for my beginner Checklist
Hey everyone. Im looking for a book to prepare me for space marine 2. Maybe something about the ultramarines. Any recommendations?
Know No Fear by Dan Abnett and the Dark Imperium trilogy by Guy Hayley
There’s resources in the pins. What are you looking for in particular?
Dont know, Just simple. I tried gaunts ghosts but it got too complexe and Long. Maybe Something with orks
Brutal Kunnin by Mike Brooks would be a good start.
Will look into it, thanks
Love your pfp btw
lol appreciate it.
That book in particular is a well regarded one. Got some Ork shenanigans and cog boys too.
The Infinite and the Divine would be my next recommendation if you haven’t read it already.
To add to this point do not expect smart characters
They are rather well subpar in intelligence in this book
Besides the main faction being the orks which is super cool and unstoppable
Yeah but making them like these unstoppable creatures just for the sake of making them look cool isn't really the best way to write them
But then again they are mostly written off as you know background treats
So whatever
Thanks! I’ll check it out
Know No Fear is a personal fav of mine. Enjoy kinsman.
My thanks, brother
Are there any good books following the imperial navy?
The Gothic War series by Gordon Rennie consists of two Black Library novels, two short stories and a comic strip as tie-in fiction for the space combat wargame Battlefleet Gothic, and the books were later included as official products for the Eye of Terror campaign. They describe the role of the Imperial Cruiser Lord Solar Macharius under Captai...
VERY old but excellent pair of books
Ah cool ty ty
Just finished Twice Dead King: Reign
And while overall I feel that the book is weaker than the first one, it still was pretty good
The ending was really satysfying
Now I'm going to probably start Brutal Kunnin
yeah the author explains it in interviews
iirc if i recall it was because it really was essentially rushed or... was suppose to be one book I THINK?
|| the thing that threw me off the most was how Oltyx has changed throughout the book, he didn't feel like the Oltyx from the first book, but I really liked the twist that he's had the Flayer Virus all along||
Also I felt like a solid first quarter of the book was spent explaining concepts introduced and explained in the first book and repeating events that happened in it
it was supposed to be one book

I've finished the first HH book the other day and I kek'd when Erebus fucked up the whole thing
Also "he gave his councel freely, without any agenda"
The first book is legit such a comedy piece
the fucking Marvel-ahh lines of "THEY WALKED LIKE A BLACK LEGION"
or "Astartes fighting Astartes? Such a thing was laughable"
shut the fuck up abnett

Yea the amount of "foretelling" is absurd. Still an enjoyable read. I don't take the series seriously anyways
Yeah id legit feel bad for Abnett if he thinks this is suppose to be taken seriously
i take it with jest since he is a comic book writer lol
Slop is slop even if written by a prolific author
That is the simple truth
Next one is by Graham Mcneill. I wonder how it'll go. Afaik his 40k books were fine
Well nvm
I just realised it's 80% ultramarines
I've only enjoyed his IW and admech stuff
I'm just hating on ultramarines per their reputation. Haven't read his UM books

Whos gonna tell him
I guess I should alternate between readingk and HH books. I'll just end up burnt out once I end the SoT
💀
Know No Fear is PEAK
THE novel that saved the ultramarines from obscurity in HH
and of course it was written by Abnett lol
Amen
Practical: I am going to rip his spine out and kill him
Yea on the cover Gman looks like he's in full RIP AND TEAR mode
Thats after he gets launched out into zero-gravity
and the Word Bearers think hes dead

KEK
Does Horus still talks like groomer once he gets on chaos juice?
Also: Why does Sanguinius have black hair
i swear the 5th chaos god is gonna be the god of mispronunciations
the amount of times i put a 40k lore video on and hear "a-bad-on" instead of "a-baddon" or "ana-tha-mey" instead of "ana-thema"
Take a shot every time someone writes "Emporer"
Oo
And! And!
Brutal kunnin' is coming to my local book store the tenth of the next month!
So i'll keep an eye for that
I'm absolutely excited for that
I'm halfway through Brutal Kunnin and I find it very enjoyable
||Though seeing two orks, a grot and a squig destroy a warlord titan is bit silly lol, and I still think that the fight with the 3 knights was more stupid||
you think that is silly?
you have not met Wazdakka Gutsmek
yeah Ulfthak is a panzy tho
This guy smashed through the Shields without teleporting, crashed through the head and killed the crew while still on fire
pretty much
Ulfthak got nothing on this guy
Oh
Yeah Ulfthak ain't got shit on him lol
Okay, finished Brutal Kunnin, it was pretty good
Now I'm onto the 2nd and 3rd Heresy books
Almost done
I feel like "I was there the day that Horus fell" from the second book is much worse than "I was there when Horus killed the Emperor" from the first one, considering what both of these quotes were really about in these books lol
The second really is a big step down
Especially in characterization
I wish they’d have had Abnett do both
Loken basically turns to the screen and tells us this lmao
Literally everyone just turns into a villain in like a few pages, like what
One of the highlights of the book for me at least, was lokens reaction to the outcry of his massacre when he was carrying horus to the vengeful spirit
Yeah there’s some good parts
Like, he’s remorseful, but he treats it like he lost a rifle or something lol
I love that part because it shows no matter how nice an astartes is, there still psychos
I'm talking mainly about the moment when Horus was stepping out of that ship, and talked with his remembrancer when he dropped, and her pen wrote that on her data slate
Yah I know i meant more that its just a dumb callback line and him basically telling us the whole
GET IT THE HORUS HERESY IS ABOUT TO HAPPEN
Like yes Loken we fucking know
What is this some kind of, sons of horus?
I HATE how they literally do this with guilliman later in the series
This isn't Horus's treachery no this is his HERESY
WHO WROTE THIS
A critically acclaimed and celebrated author across multiple very popular media
sobbing as we speak aughhh
The average warhammer fans are not as insightful as you guys :^)
They need to be reminded
Gonna be real, every single well regarded author ever has shit like this
Especially prolific ones
Doesn’t mean you can’t call it out but that’s how it is
I wonder if authors are forced to add sentences like these by gw or editors
I doubt it
These guys are corny like that
Abnett loves those kinda things in his books
If anything I bet they started telling them to be a bit more subtle or to knock it off lol
I’m only going to write a three part book where Big E walks on a ship for 90% of it and you’re going to like it!!!!
slop!!!
Writing like this make this meme seem believable
Speaking of slop I finish The End and the Death Vol 2.
It was better than Vol 1 but was still pretty tedious and bloated.
I don’t trust anyone who thinks volume 2 was better than 1
Audible has the Andy Serkis narrated Lord of the Rings for like $6 so I’m gonna listen to those for a bit and finish Vol 3.
Real shit?
Yeah, what this guy said!
might have to grab those as well
The first one is free with your subscription and the other two are like $6-$7.
The Hobbit is unfortunately not on sale.
Also in my defense I don’t think either books are all that good.
So ya know. Just finishing them to finish them at this point.
not for my Audible it seems, no freebies and the Andy Serkis narrated are ~$30
Vol 2 had more highlights for me personally, I am not invested in the story lol.
damn, might be NA only then.
I've got my account on the .com version that uses USD which should be the NA version, no?
Idk what’s up then tbh.
Book 1 with Rob Inglis narration is -63%, others -30%
hmh, that's a different artwork than the ones I'm seeing
Maybe try this link.

Will try these after work at the home PC
Hopefully you can snag them for that price.
okay i enjoy fall of cadia
dilara you win
it's a stupidly funny book
plus so many little things that make it better
a lot of details i enjoy
Haha get fucked loser
I TOLD YOU SO!
🫵
And yeah im glad they went with so many POV swaps its such a fun book. Creed definitely steals the show.
Are the ghazkull book and the yarrick ones worth a read?
Id recommend the ghazkull book yeah
Havent read any of the yarrick stories yet though
But ghazkull is def fun
shud i read The end and the death?
Yes
I would read the siege first if you haven’t and some of the heresy
But assuming you have sure
Otherwise it definitely won’t work lol
Siege? You mean siege of Terra?
Yes
What else would I mean siege of Vraks?
In the context of talking about the End and the Death and the heresy?
No, he means the novelisation of the hit video game Rainbow Six: Siege
Bruh
Ghazghkull's book is fun but Yarrick's while being old are deffo peak as well.
Its one of the rare cases where its an actually great trilogy but barely anyone mentions it.
Just finished Galaxy in Flames
It was fun and seeing how quickly and easily some characters became evil bastards was kind of funny
Now I'm going with Steel Tread by Andy Clark
good decision
I was kind of reluctant to start it considering that the only other book of his that I read was Gloomspite, and I didn't really like it

Siege of Naggarond!
cawl is definitely a wacky dude
i think its a good book
i drink up any and all guard books so
based
i also want to write 40k books, and am in the process of writing 40k stuff actually
its fun
what's it about
sorry didnt see
uh dont really know yet, but its ab guardsmen mainly
Finished it yesterday, and it was good
Kinda makes me want to see Baneblade focused novel
there is a novel called “Baneblade” but i dont know if youve read it, nor do i know if its actually about a baneblade
its a series about a tanker tho
i think
Oh yeah, there is, now I remember lol
I need to finish Warlords of Karak Eight Peaks first though
i am desperate for 40k militarum tanker content as well
the best i get is occasional glimpses in novels
Steel tread
Majority of the book is in tank
what about Saturnine
I am also desperate for good 40k fighter pilot or void battle novels (I know only of Outgunned and Gothic War books)
Very nice
Double Eagle
Outgunned is also getting a sequel
and the character has like 3 or 4 short stories
Ravenor is pretty good
Iirc Abnett said he was gonna do a Double Eagle book too
New Exorcists book is pretty cool so far. Has Exorcists vs Word Bearers and their obvious parallels and being dark reflections of eachother are on display. Also some other stuff.
Thank you for confirming I need to buy this and read it tonight
Lol
-creed is telling you to retreat with us to the next position!
-no
-but this place is literally crumbling into dust from the artillery!
-this place is called the martyr's rampart, not the tactical retreat rampart
creed being like pleaaaase dont die for no reason
i love when astartes are depicted as the hard headed fucks they are
tell me that isnt an actual quote😭🙏🏻
sorry for another ping but i have a quote that is related to that
‘I made a decision too,’ Cadwalder replied. ‘It was my own. I chose to step forward onto the deck of a Stormbird, and not step backwards off its ramp. What I was going to say, my lord, was stay behind me. They are closing very rapidly. My visor is crowded with contact icons. They are accelerating. Please, stay behind me.’
‘Like hell,’ said Niborran. ‘None of that. I’m not your Praetorian, and you’re not my bodyguard. I’m Niborran, of the Saturnine Ordos, and I have zone command here. I’m not getting behind anybody.’
He looked up at the Huscarl.
‘Right here, right now, Cadwalder, you and me, we’re the same.’
They stood in the mouth of the gate, side by side, human and transhuman, and began to fire as the World Eaters swept in.
-Saturnine
that last line is a direct quote
that is absolutely hilarious
you said that was the fall of cadia book?
“This is the Martyr’s Rampart, not the Redeployment Rampart.”
absolutely amazing
i need to get it
how did you find the quote without the book
Finished Oaths of Damnation, post a summary of my thoughts and its pros and cons, spoilering plot related stuff
Pros
-
Really good showcase of the Exorcists and the lore we already had plus some new details and expansions on concepts
-
Reivers and Eliminators get featured heavily and they're pretty cool, mostly the bolterporn is thought out and the way the marines fight is easy to picture and feels like a cohesive unit fighting
-
A pretty large cast of Word Bearer and Exorcist characters which mostly get something to do or some pretty good characterization even if they're not the main characters
-
The daemon characterizations are generally pretty cool and creative
-
||Overlord Gunship appearance and action is cool||
-
||This is a preference thing but, I appreciated only about five to seven Exorcists in the book die it felt like, the conflict they're in isn't exactly a major one but it felt less goofy and made the deaths a bit more meaningful when they happened||
Cons
-
Its very much one of those books where the author was probably told to rattle on about Primaris as much as he could. I'll say the book does generally make it work, the times the Belisarius Furnace were used made sense, but there's also some gratuitous scenes like a sniper basically doing an ad in his head for the Las Fusil, calling their fellow marines "Primaris" instead of Astartes or Marines, and ||Overlord Gunship appearence which while fun was harped on a bit much.|| It didn't ruin anything for me and I liked seeing Vanguard squad Reivers and Eliminators in action in a cool way but its very noticeable too. There is a lot of bolterporn, and if it doesn't work for you that's could be a problem.
-
It starts strong but imo ends much weaker. ||The story becomes pretty predictable about 2/3 into it and while thats not the worst thing it definitely felt stronger earlier on for me.||
-
||Word Bearers felt a little underused although arguably that's the point of the story since its a pretty pathetic warband largely, still felt they could have done more.||
- ||A big theme of the book is the Exorcists soullessness kills their ability to feel emotions. Sometimes I liked this sometimes I didn't. This can also sorta kill your ability to care about them. I'm mixed on it, and there's some level where the tragedy works but sometimes for me it also dragged when something big or heroic or sad would happen and then the author goes "Exorcist knew he should feel something, but he didn't." yet again.||
Overall, I'd give it a 7-8/10 probably for me personally, definitely a must read if you're interested in the Exorcists as you would think, but if you don't care about them and don't jive with the Reiver/Eliminator bolterporn its not for you.
Good start, ending could have been better.
made it to chapter 20 of false gods its really good
horus rising is mid in comperason and i stand by that
did people speak a different kind of english in 2006? i struggled so much reading horus rising
GOOD i have a C1 english cert books shouldnt be that hard 😭
i'm a native speaker and i struggle sometimes
I'm almost done with false gods and man everyone feels dumb
Horus and his legion are supposed to be the best and they're jobbers
ikr horus feels lika fucking dip
Imagine getting felled by a poop knife
w-what did you say mr erebus???!?!?!?!? I should forget everything i ever believed in since birth because someone gave me bad LSD? y-yes as you say
Maybe it's just because I know of the marvel-tier feats of the other primarchs. But pre-chaos Horus feels like a wet noodle
lokin failing to notice the poop knife too 😭
"We must wait before telling everyone that Erebus is a traitor!"
And Abaddon is basically a world eater even if he does't have the spikes
i swear to god the end of warhammer 40k is gonna be some dude time travelling into the future and beating to death baby erebus, erda, abbadon and gramaticus for good measure
It won't
Erebus redemption arc in wh50k
After all the primarchs comes back of course
all the primarchs+ the emperor are then forced to take family therapy
I could see that in a sitcom formula
insert forced laughter
John maybe?
i realize you also said grammaticus
what he do
he has a dumb name
and he's a bitch for joining the emperor even though he's lived through humanity's multiple dark pasts
hes currently ||messing around in some warp/time forsaken shithole tighing knots with rope or some shit using a feather of sanguinius for whatever reason||
i swear black templars are the best part of this book
😭
Well like. The Imperial Truth is that there is no supernatural. My boy EXPERIENCED the supernatural.
And then got a healthy dose of chaos poisoning too.
It's the Grima Wormtongue/Théoden relationship.
erebus saw nurgles influence and really thought yup need more of that
erebus is kinda just an asshole same for abbadon
Nurgle gets shit done compared to the other 3 chaos jobbers
(Unbiaised opinion ofc)

Double Eagle. It's a Sabbat Crusade story. Personally speaking for whatever reason I want to describe it as the 40k equivalent of a story of a WW2 pacific theatre fighter pilot squadron.
creed:
doing strategic planning of the defence of cadia and going over the reports of kasr craf, checking the daily reports of lost ground
wait, we're still holding martyr's rampart? the black templars are still alive?
camera cuts to black templars holding back an enormous wave of cultists and word bearers with chainswords and flamers
DONT TOUCH MY FUCKING BANNER RAAAAAAAAH
The only person more worthy of a good snack than Erebus is Eidolon, because fuck that guy.
just started book 3 😭 idk who that is
He was the Emperor's Children commander on spider planet in book 1
Basically he's a dick who made shitty calls because he wanted glory. Most of his men got killed uselessly because of that and he told Horus he was the one who saved the whole operation (it actually was Saul Tarvitz who saved the day on spider planet; who might be the only EC who's not a complete dick)
Saul my man
Saul and Rylanor are probably the only Emperor's Children who are nice guys
I’m furious just thinking about him 😄
Solomon Demeter was a good dude as well
Eidolon is a bellend and should stay in the Heresy where he belongs
Ancient Diomat actually is a cool dude as well (despite being held by traitors for 10k years while being denied dreadnought sleep or the release of death). He thinks Fulgrim is a bellend
does spear of faith look like it'll be good
skipped the BEST HH book????
Horus Rising is imo the best book in the entire HH
i really liked chapters 1 and 2 but it as VERY hard to read
i was dying
i didnt feel the same way, but ig its all different
Reading Gotrek and Felix Daemonslayer and Malakai speak is certainly something
i have seen ork speech more understandable than this
the guy is fun but my god his speaking is very hard to read
the audiobook is great for that
yeah might find that
Drukari are so fucked up. One of there dishes was roasted black mane pup with wyvern venom sauce
yeah audio books are great lemme just put on galaxy on fire chapter 2 while in bed for a bit
wtf wht is it chapter 14 now?? why is it day time??? oh.....
Oh God, I've read that in Polish, and it wasn't half as difficult to read it as it is in English lol
Yo I'm about to read my first ever book, "The Inifite and the Divine" I know the lore about the war in heaven bit is there anything else I should know?
yes, its an amazing book
yo i just finished devastation of baal and am looking for something else with tyranids before space marine 2 any ideas?
I finished HH, my soul is empty. Any good SM or militarium books?
I read Nuceria Angron’s origin story is cool
i got the night lords omnibus in the mail and i forgot i ordered it
im buying too many books
We got some pinned in the channel that you can look
Mostly a collection of Short stories
ever read steel tread
night lords trilogy by Aaron Dembski Bowden. Or you can start another series, The War of the Beast
10-15 books, cant recall correctly
you read the entirety of HH?
Yep, over 3 years
my condolences
Why?
Its a overbloated series and not that good minus a handful of books.
i say this as a person that has read a great majority of it over the couse of like 4-5 years lol
including the dreadfully slop Siege books
That's very nice if you to remind us of that every few weeks or so dilara
Gav Thrope:
Gay thorn when something
great thanks ill check it out
Not 100% of the books were enjoyable but the majority was for me. I consider it a “blessing” to be easily satisfied with content.
Agreed
Most of the fandom does and agrees with it, don't make it seem like im on the minority dingus

⬆️
Never implied it was
Sloppa
Its not 40k without repetitiveness
I merely jest to dill like i usually do
you forgot to leave a " 😁 "
You can't call yourself a real 40k fan without constantly mentioning a sentence/joke till everyone is sick of it
To be fair in comparison theres a difference between actually acknowledging something for what it is and "omg yvraine guilliman are dating"
they SHOULD BE

Just finished the Night Lord trilogy for the second time now. Very enjoyable still, the third one does meander a bit towards the latter third but picks up the pace very nicely towards the final chapters
Oh I forgot to reply to this, anyways, KILL YOURSELF!!!
Now I will start the final Nathan Long Gotrek & Felix novel, looking forward to it
yeah, its like reading Eisenhorn or Ravenor trilogies for the 3rd time and its still cool
gonna reread HH soon
except pythos trash
how are the night lord books
arguably top 5 warhammer book series
ABD cooked with that trilogy
very very good indeed
the emperor's most faithful and smelliest soldier....
i got the omnibus
get reading
i swear to the emperor GW bribed the writers of sp2 to ||make our boy a primaris||
Unlikely
Game companies who get to make warhammer games dont get much freedom aside from pitching the concept and getting it approved, depending on the idea then it will get policed to the absolute max or just become some mess like Hired Gun who no one remembers at this point.
SM2 entirely has Primaris because it is the current itteration of Marines to the public and the entire game is more or less a marketing device for them accordingly.
so theres no bribing, you do what you are told.
Like the conversation was probably just
"We want to make a sequel to Space Marine"
"Okay, all Space Marines are Primaris now, so you'll need to change Titus"
"Alright"
Tbh it’s not even like him being primaris changes much story wise lol
^
Yea like the whole Primaris thing aside, they would have done that anyway because they're the newest looking armour designs
People in general legit got no idea how much GW actually is behind most of these decisions lol
also this yeah, it makes sense to go Primaris, its the new shiny thing.
small baby mk X armor specifically made for Titus
Na they've also ditched the Primaris branding from most things with the new edition
There isn't Primaris Captain and Captain anymore, it's just Captain
If they want to eventually move on from firstborn marines then it makes sense
Tbh the primaris gear can be used by firstborn and the other way around
Lol
Aren't firstborn a bit stunty for Mk X armor?
Firstborn are a few inches smaller ye
A bit, but it’s easy to retrofit
Tbf the thing that bothers me the most about Rubicon Primaris is that (i think) marines who undergo it grow a few inches, which I'd imagine would be difficult if not done when someone's still young and growing naturally
But it's just space gene-magic, ig
Yea they literally cram in like three more organs, one of them is extra grow juice
i watched a lore recap on them and i hate them so much its unreal
Hating Primaris is cringe
you should have been there when they got released
they are badly done but yeah hating them is just a boring trend atm
40k evolves and survives because it changes and adapts.
Primaris are just marginally better marines
Primaris are mostly fine for me
I guess that they could have just improved the models for the firstborn and re-released them, but it wouldn't sell that well then ig
yeah the superer super soldiers
I mean, before primaris we had:
Thunder warriors (super soldiers)
Space marines (super super soldiers)
And Custodes (super super super soldiers)
So it's nothing new really
the superer super soldiers who robot man had made with the help of an actual robot without anyone noticing
Thunder warriors are like super super soldiers but have super cancer
Again ^
at the end of the day it was the right business decision
the emperor? who the fuck is that some tech priest made even better ones
Okay so for one the research on primaris organs was done by the Selenar genecults and the emperor
You know that right

Cawl just had to finish the few parts they didn’t get to
so thats what the emperor was doing when he fucked off during the crusade
No
That was the webway project
He was working on making better marines during the heresy
Yea Emperor told Cawl to continue his work basically
Primaris are a stable derivative of the raptor project and some other marine improvement stuff the emperor was working on
So he did
you know what
What
i will simply ignore them and headcanon them into not existing
You can also do that
But I do not see why you think Cawl literally pulled them out his ass
Cawl also admits his work isnt perfect
and it took like what
an entire millennia to do?
what the Emperor did in a few months/years lol
crawl also pulled himself out of his own ass tbh
Around 4000 years lol
This is how named characters work yes

Wasn't he around since the heresy?
Yes
they changed something in his backstory with that book
uhhhh
fuck what was it called
A real mindfuck moment also was the Emperor talking to a trusted engineer in the past.
Lol
Then Cawl gets a vision from the present time
and realises the Emperor was talking to him through that person
LOL
Cawl ated him
Jokes aside nothing Cawl has made is really that implausible knowing what he was working with
He had essentially a blank check, tons of research data he just needed to finish
And like he’s an Archmagos
Who the fuck is going to go knocking on his door asking what he’s doing
Also this isn’t even the first time the mechanicus has fucked with space marine geneseed and modified them
They’ve done it in two different foundings
ye they pulled the "we have marines in a hidden fridge" at least 4 times
That "no one's gonna go and fuck around in my stuff when I'm important enough, so a little tech heresy won't hurt" was shown of well in Brutal Kunnin tbh
Not really fridge just, we’re making marines but better
To varying levels of success
On one hand Sons of Anteus, on the other hand flame eagles
I’d make a joke about sons of anteus being primaris but that joke is so overdone
Also Cawl was using his notes and previous planned upgrades and work, people always act like Cawl somehow did it all better, he just continued the work that was unfinished and it took him forever.
Not all of Cawl's works are strictly better in all fields. Good example would be the new Dreadnaughts. They might hit harder then a lot of old Dreadnaughts, might be faster too, but that boost to combat power came at the cost of the ability to keep the marine inside alive for hundreds if not thousands of years.
Also Neo-Volkite is doodoo compared to regular Volkite
Cawls plasma also explodes harder lmao
When it suffers critical failures
Also his “grav” tech which is slower and can’t literally fly
And also just literally crushes whatever is under it unlike actual grav tech
also he had like 10000 years
@schrodingershowitzer might not be too much of a bad thing all things considered
