Maybe he’s a masochist.
Well i have to see if its actually as bad as everybody says it is and also my credits were about to expire
In case nobody’s gotten them yet these two are discounted under $10 on Audible. Pretty good prices if you ask me.

Any good audiobook recommendations for beginners?
Pinned messages has a good list for straters
iirc pretty much all of the books in the list are also available in audio format
Thanks
i'm finishing cadia stands rn
as far as guard books go, not my favorite
hard to keep track of all the shit going on because the author keeps jumping around to random characters
as an audiobook it is not the best experience
Uh it does but i heard its universally awful, which sucks because the book is actually really good lmao
For the love of God don’t get the audiobook.
I was coping in chat so hard last month when I was listening to it.
Great book but that narration?
darn
i dont get how random people on youtube can pump out more audio readings and of higher quality than official publishing companies
Sometimes you just need friends in high places.
Apparently it’s the same narrator for the Ahriman audiobooks and I’ve never heard good things about those.
has anyone read pilgrims of fire
Felix stormcast when
sorry its WHF lmao, not 40k
Felix the Ultramarine(is alive)
i got scared
i love felix
when is Fabian going to pop up again. at the end of god blight ||he got that book telling about the emperors real past|| and i want to know what happened.
is it weird i enjoy when characters stand around and talk more then action.
Want it to share this with you guys, I haven’t read it all
Oooo neat
Man the book the greatest evil is a really fucking cool concept wasted on a 60 page short story that will likely never be continued
Following gue’vesa conscripts sent to reconnect with a tau colony gone dark that suddenly regains contact and claims to have converted the local mechanicus presence there and reached an accord
But things aren’t as they seem
||the colony has become a genestealer cult, which shows some really cool concepts for infected Mechanicus personnel with their augments and newfound “gifts” and what a tau/human genestealer cult would look like||
its funny because there is an admech genestealer cult faction in their codex
but of course it isnt really explored much lol
Yeah but it’s really cool concept to explore
Also the main character in the book is interesting
I just hate how the short stories never finish, like they’re ever gonna continue them
Like if you wanna make it so the characters ultimate fates are ambiguous so you can sell models where people can headcanon it, that’s fine, just at least wrap up the existing arc that you started
Happy Thursday, bookworms.
Hola.
Just finished Vampireslayer, became probably my favourite Gotrek & Felix books thus far
Oh so my hardest part of wolftime an hour in is decyphering wtf the wolves are talking about half the time
I’d like to request a wellness check on Oracle, they’re willingly reading a SW book. I am worried and concerned for their well being

Finally got around to starting Lukas the Trickster. It's perddy good.
Just like any legion/chapter, you just need to find the diamond in the rut.
Ive got to read the books for a faction before i can truely say if i hate them or not. Maybe itll get better as i get further into it. No i dont need a wellness check as im not a boeing whistleblower
Boeing catching strays, just like the testifiers
Should I invest in a kindle
Imo no
An e reader is a good buy but there's gotta be better options than kindles now
Kindles suck
Both of my kindles had issues retaining a battery charge after like 3 months
My oldschool kindle only needs to be charged like once a month lol
I might need to get a tablet or something so i can draw dnd maps better
I use dungeon scrawl for layouts and sometimes basic decor
Best purchase I ever made
I finally got all the books of the Horus heresy physically but sadly you cannot post pictures here ^^
You can when you've got a red name
is there a place where i can get a list of witch order t read the books ?
Lexicanum
Just search the novel series you want
It's pretty accurate
chill any suggestions which novel series to start
In the pins
thanks 🫡
I'm almost finished with the second black fortress book and if it sticks the landing that it will be my new favorite series
Drake is such a awesome character
The ending is very ambigious but good id say
it has big implications as ever but doesnt go anywhere, still fun though
I actually came here to ask since I just finished it this morning, I thought the end of the first Blackstone Fortress book was kinda meh, is the second one better?
The second and third book are better yeah
3rd gets really wild compared to the 2nd one though
Could use good starting point for guardsmen books. Would love to see little guys in frontline
@tall phoenix should I read king maker next
read Assasinorum Kingmaker I promise you it is really really really good
I swear on my life
And if you are lieing
You said your life
Joke btw
Todd can't hurt you
lol
Todd has hurt me plenty
Check the pins to find some good recommendations. 😉
Late but ABSOLUTELY read kingmaker
Its probably one of the most fun 40k books ive ever read, it still has some dark moments in it but its very much written like a fun Suicide Squad movie
Still need to read that one
Almost done with Lukas the Trickster.
He’s just a silly little guy.
yoinked
is it like a silly book? i like dark ones with lots of death and violence. type of book where no character is safe.
Its not silly its more just not dark as shit
like it has knights killing peasants that are considered "traitors" in an arena spectacle for sport and crowd cheering for example and other black comedy 40k stuff, but its very serious.
the characters themselves just help make the novel fun and interesting instead of just miserable

Also another example
This is right at the start but uh
the Vindicare is giving the mission briefing and the Callidus just goes:
raises hand
not looking
"Why is a dumbass like you in charge of an obvious assassination mission"
its so good lmao
The socially unintelligent one is in charge of the mission(it’s jover)
I love him so much
Hey he technically got the job they were there for done super fast
It’s just there was some uh
Wrinkles
LOL
i thought you were calling me a dumb ass for a sec lol

Im gonna get banished to the warp after this. Wolftime isnt that bad so far and i kinda like the wolves. I am only 7 hours into the audiobook though so it could still fall off
Heres hoping it does otherwise we will be burning you on a wolf-cross
It would really take alot at this point to make me dislike the wolves. They are like my 3rd favorite space marines, ultramarines dark angels and the wolves.

The SW are pretty dope…liking Wolftime tho…
Jk jk like whatever you want man.
Me and the one other guy that likes Damnation of Pythos (he’s the only other Iron Hands simp in existence).
Ill be the first to admit i have very low standards
Almost done with Lukas the Trickster. I love that corny man.
Hows the book so far
SW are genuinely compelling when they aren’t written to be just Vikings but with space guns.
10/10 would drink Mjod and read again.
BASED
Only got like an hour left and it’s just such a fun book.
alas no scene of Lukas and Sliscus kissing so 9/10 for me
Nice to see Drukhari be written by someone who actually likes Drukhari.
I do love how every time Lukas and Sliscus fight they are both just
"Lmao I love this crazy son of a bitch"
I just got lukas ill read if after i finish daen of fire and devastation of baal
its deffo the best kind of mid 2000's 40k book
ACCURATE
Every scene they have together tbh.
Their chemistry is so fucking funny
Nah the book fucks pretty hard and proves my point that SW can be good.
Ironic because its protagonist is the most non-SW space wolf
who even shits on their traditions

Ive heard 40k wolves are better than 30k wolves that true?
Yeah? Let me guess it depends on your opinion of leman?
I mean, I like Prospero Burns. Wolfsbane was fun but pretty pointless.
I do like the SW psyker thar you follow in Fury of Magnus.
He’s like part Dog the Bounty Hunter and part Gandalf.
Lol
yeah the space wolves basically get nothing done in 30k
their entire job is to raze Prospero and thats basically it
SW fans are either into them because space vikings or because of how corny they are.
I’m in the latter.
My favorite ones are characters that don’t take themselves that seriously and go out of there to help Imperial citizens.
That and their psykers are pretty cool.
Just decked out in wolf totems and are more spiritual than supernatural
I like the White Scars for the same reason.
But GW likes to forget those guys exist.
Didn't white scars get super popular due to the horus heresy? I feel like gw is missing out on some goldmine
They did but they are still very underrated
they sit at a spot where they are a cool chapter with cool books but nobody reads them
They literally just have HH novels and that’s it lol.
Dilaras gonna throw hands
My bad ten thousands HH novels and one modern day setting.
Its a good book damn it
Bruh loving the fact that ||Lukas constantly watches over and protects the descendants of his own tribe prior to becoming Astartes.||
I love this man
Wolftime has pulled me in, there are some gems in this book.
|| a primaris marine got in a fight with a firstborn and he yeets himself out of a flying transport to prove a point.||
|| a custodian and a historitor are argueing and they describe how custodians are biult from the ground up and that somebody thought it was a good idea to make the tribune an asshole||
Just two of the things that have made me enjoy this book.
Hey guys, i wanna read my first 40k book any suggestions?
Check the pinned messages, some good suggestions there 😉
Wolftime has been finished
how was it
I actually quite enjoyed it
Was it a wolfing good time?
The wolfiest of times
Read the Bjorn short story
darktide made me wanna get into warhammer books, just started eisenhorn
well, im like 80 pages in
it seems pretty good even if the setting isn't my favorite
Warhammer is pretty vast. You’ll find what tickles your fancy in no time.
the eisenhorn and sequel trilogies in particular are a series that continuously builds on itself
Reading through the word bearers omnibus
Good to get some real gore in warhammer
Physically cringed when they peeled off the dudes forehead
Still need to read those.
I finished the WB omnibus two days ago. It was a nice read
Kol Badar is based
And it really sucks to be a normal human during a WB invasion
definitely, just saw eisenhorn get recommended as a first read many times so i thought id read the first book at least
are there any good novels that feature orks?
Start with Brutal Kunnin by Mike Brooks.

There’s also Ghazghkull Thraka: Prophet of the Waaagh! and Warboss just to name a few.
There's a couple, unfortunately not nearly as many as there should be
The books that do exist are good at least.
damn i didnt expect it to have orks as the main characters
There’s more suggestions in the pins but everyone here is more than happy to answer questions if you’re looking for something particular.
ill definitely check it out
If you like audiobooks Brutal Kunnin’s a great one.
Narrator does a damn good ork voice.
thats funny
Personally always thought it had too much admech in it but it’s a great book.
Hi, I wanted to start reading a Warhammer book, unfortunately in my local bookstore they don't have many. among those available there is the fall of cadia, ASSASSINORUM, the sea of souls by chris wraight and sister of battle which appealed to me, if anyone has one to advise me to introduce me to the universe of warhammer in book?
Kingmaker?
yes
That's apparently pretty damn good
There's a few peeps here who've read all of them who can prolly guide you
So i'd wait a few hours
ok i take note
Fall of Cadia is pretty fucking dope and honestly not a bad start tbh.
Heard good things about Kingmaker, coincidentally the same author of Fall of Cadia.
If you’re talking about the Sister of Battle omnibus that’s another banger series.
There really isn’t one book that is THE ONE BOOK TO RULE THEM ALL if that makes sense.
In terms of getting into 40K the books you listed are all great introductions to the universe. Haven’t read the Chris Wraight novel you mentioned but he’s one of the best BL writers imo.
Very late to this but if you want to follow the storyline
hopefully this bad bashed up together paint edit should help
oki
okay thank you, i'll probably start with cadia, i also heard good things about gaunt's ghost(i think it's the name) and eisenhorn story, maybe after cadia i'll take one of these 2 if i find them.
Gaunt and Eisenhorn both have content that spans over a decade.
They’re big investments especially if you are just starting out.
If you’re itching to read either one of those and enjoy physical, recommend getting both of their respective omnibus releases.
Both have three books and short short stories to tie things together.
(I think) both series have like 10+ books to read so just want you to know what you’re getting into.
thank you for the advice, I will probably wait until I am more familiar with the 40k universe before tackling one of these two books and I will then take the omnibus (and yes I prefer the physical versions to take a break from the screens) . I can't wait to get started and be able to discuss books here.
I highly recomend Assasinorum kingmaker
The great thing about Black Library is you can start basically anywhere
There are lots of short stories and novels that are disconnected from the broader narrative
So you can search for something interesting and just enjoy it on it's own
The less great thing is there's a lot of 40k specific babble that can take some getting used to, but if you encounter a word you don't understand you can usually just google it and find a detailed blogpost about what it means and what it's used for.
i was afraid about that, i mean if i see "it's the adeptus tyranosaurus", and idk what that is every 3 lines... but i guess if i can start everywhere i will understand the 40k vocabulary naturally.
Some of it will make sense or be explained as it's used, but some authors have a habit of using 40k technobabble without explaining anything, so you're just left sitting wondering "Was I supposed to know what that meant or not?"
like "stablights" meaning "flashlights" lol
or "scrambled embryoks" being "scrambled eggs"
Second one is foul lol
ok i see, it looks fun somehow, i'll do my research during the reading
Abnett does a decent job easing into the lingo iirc?
FYI to whomever were hurt by the original narrator in The Fall of Cadia
They re-released it with another narrator today
LMAO
Okay that is fucking hilarious
The complaints must have been actually that many
Word Bearer's omnibus is heating up
this shit is GRAPHIC lmao
May be the goriest warhammer book series I ever read
I mean, Warhammer books just tend to be gratuitous to the point where it becomes comedic.
I want more stories where space marines get paper cups on the fleshy part between your fingers.
Something more grounded.
yea but it's cartoonish, the WB books have foreheads getting peeled off and shit
That’s pretty fucking metal.
I’ll get around to them eventually.
Also looks like Cadia narrator hasn’t changed yet on Audible.
Bro they are grinding people into paste and forcing mfs to build buildings out of the people paste 😭
Waste not, want not.
Wasting perfectly good food
besides the best 40k book ever /hj ascension day, any other good books with alot of gsc?
They show up for two seconds in The Infinite & The Divine.

That’s all I know tbh :3
i heard they are in a sisters book
Need to read more about the genestealers in general.
They don’t have many books
Regarding gsc
Since they’re very new
Most of their lore is in their codexes
deathwatch by steve parker
they're the main antagonist
and you get some chapters from their POV
in a cool way, or in a 'lmao die' way
Uhhh it's before some of their lore was fleshed out so it's really cool but their main way to make new cultists is uhhh rape

old GSC is a lotta body horror and rape
sidenote, thank you gw for fixing that lore btw
it’s still kind of rapey ngl
The book is great though
Just less literal
That’s wild man.
its alot less fucking horrible tho lmao
not counting secondus
the hive city
last time i checked it like, midly hypnosis but also they are attracted to other infected ppl
Lmao, also prettuy sure it was also motivated by political sabotage
i love the new heads btw, i always wanted to have a giant bin of gsc heads
and just grab at random
the new heads have potential to greatly greatly diversity the uh,
gsc in general
so hype
Cult of the Spiral Dawn by Peter Fehervari is really good
Thank you >:3
Should I read Army Of One? I like Eversor Assassins (missed opportunity not making a Doom Eternal-style game where you play as one tbh) and I know it features one.
its just a short story, so at best 30 pages
so if you wanna give it a go, go for it
Question: are there any good books talking about the ogres/ogors?
Have you read the Battle tome for age of sigmar?
I've been reading more Gaunt's Ghosts, and I'm still laughing how I instantly cast Goku as Gol Kolea, and the more I read the more it is prefect
Dude is the most Goku dude in all of 40k
Including abandoning offspring
okay, so I am almost done with my first Warhammer 40K book after getting audible account. The one i began with was "The Fall of Cadia", idk if it was the best to start with but i absolutely love it and I am so glad i made my first character one for the purple eyes. at first it was confusing when i was listening to the reader read it as it switched scenes with lil to no warning but eventually i knew enough of all the different characters to tell when it switched. i give it a 9/10 and might make a guard army for the actual table top game.
Its not the best for starters but its not that confusing and pretty straightforward. You kinda need some context and thats kind of it
also yeah REALLY get used to random abrupt Chapter switches with different POVs, every warhammer book has one.
Even the most basic books at least will have two POV swaps
Oh nothing in the story itself confused me, just the pov shifts. i knew a decent chunk of lore from friend and videos i seen online. i am just not use to having abrupt shifts in stories, but thanks for letting me know that it will most likely be in future books i go through.
Yeah most handle POV-shifts fine, its not too hard getting used to, can sometimes get annoying if Plot A is more interesting than Plot B but still
Yeah like there are moments in a book where you are wondering how the hell the enemy is losing then you just shift to their commander being so idiotic you just want to grab a nearby lasgun and shoot yourself

I feel that, i love all the stories in this book. Though it could be because it's my first book
Last few pages of the last blackstone fortress book. Didn't expect ||quintis to explode||

Wait that's the end?
It’s honestly not the worst starting point.
All you need to know is Horus is a doo doo head for starting a rebellion and his son loves snorting chaos cocaine. Decides to say yolo let’s try destroying Cadia (Cadia stands!) because it’s important to the Imperial Guard.
And there’s a race of Egyptian robots that occasionally pop up.
It’s pretty difficult to outright say “hey, this is the best starting point for beginners!” and that’s because there really isn’t one.
Glad you enjoyed the book tho. It’s an absolute banger.
Thanks, i pretty much got it because of darktide. I was like "purple eye but i have to be from Cadia? I guess I am Cadian. Oh they have special lines... wait, I am digging these voice lines. Oh there is a 20+ hour boook i can listen to at my job?... 24 in the war! CADIA STANDS!"
i guess i will just give the good old 🫡
Robert Rath’s other works are great as well if you’re itching for more stuff to read. He’s incredibly versatile so none of his stuff feels samey.
i will give them a look , post my thoughts on them after i finish them
It’s a cliche but the Eisenhorn trilogy is what I’d recommend
It shores up any potential holes you might have in the basic premise of the universe and it’s a good series in general which touches on a lot of stuff
You lil uns luv ta read yes? But real queshon. Is it Ulgo, or is hungry hungry caterpillar very scary? IT EATS MEAN AN STUFF
No this ending was really shit
What happened to the others?
Its left so open
Not the ones I read
They left since the fortress was awakening
and most 40k books very much end with "it doesnt matter, this was just one tale among many", especialyl for non-mainline novels
Instead of continuing story make new ones!
So did he become the blackstone?
An have story finished by end of book. Serie if ya want. BUT NOT ALL BOOK NEED SERIES!
But it was a series
He basically became an uplifted human fit to control the blackstone fortress and joined his partner in its conciousness ye
Again, series or not, most 40k stories end like this
Either everyone dies, or the thing they do doesn't matter
its generally about the journey so lol
still i find that ending disappointing
i have mostly on read the ones that are mainline books
Yep theres your issue
those at least give the illusion that they have accomplished something
even if it wont be touched again for a few years or ever
makes sense why i found the esienhorn ending shocking
Now imagine reading that back in the day
and waiting for years to even get any continuation
Ma favorite book is skullduggery pleasant. Was fun series that made you want more. NOT STINKY BAD ENDINGS
thats what i experienced
No Kingmaker is actually fun
it has grimdark violence but like its not too depressing
just remember its a self-contained story solely about a knightworld
Kingmaker is sooooooooo fun
I was sitting there reading the ending battle going LET'S FUCKING GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
The briefing the Vindicare gives sets the entire tone
its so James Gunn
"Why is a moron Vindicare like you leading the mission instead of a sexy bombshell callidus like me."
"Bruh im the team leader, stfu"
me: engaged
The shapeshifter who is a woman killing a dark eldar while slepeing with them as a man sent me for a loop
the word bearer's omnibus has been 200 pages of gore so far
The guy's forehead getting peeled off had me going AHHHHHHHHHH
If I want religious people killing mindless bystanders ill play Killing Floor
it's not mindless; it's manifest destiny

i like dark storys
Okay but like you got 95% of those in 40k
theres nothing wrong with fun ones either
its just not for me
Okay but you get to read about someone getting beaten to death by a mob then strung up
Also peasants being used for sport in an arena and being blown up by knights lmao
They deserve to be slaughtered smh
It’s tradition

Another to my growing list
I wonder if Our Martyred Lady is worth a listen
It is
its very fun lol
also has a lot of Greyfax/Celestine drama, really well voice acted
the second one is my favorite
are any of the warhammer crime books good? i have grim repast
Bloodlines was pretty decent
and I've heard The Wraithbone Phoenix is good
and some of the Eisenhorn short stories (that are all included in Eisenhorn: Magos) are pretty similar in tone
and those are great
sex!? in my warhammer 40k universe!? 😤
all of the warhammer crime books are good
I am not joking
As long as you're okay with less grand stuff
I want dark and gritty with death and stuff
that applies to pretty much almost every 40k book in existance
lol
it has death in it
and its generally street level

so its pretty fucking shit
You get to see the horrors of the melta from the perspective of some random beat cop enforcer who has never seen anything scarier then a really big autogun before

Finished Da Big Dakka yesterday, was quite enjoyable. Liked it probably more than the first book
cool to see drukhari stuff as well
the arena was a great scene
I really hated Big Dakka

deffo hurts to read if you know basically anything about dark eldar lore and how much bullshit ufthak gets away with lmao
I deffo checked out once ||ufthak's plot armor got out of control and he won a fucking 4v1 against 2 Archons, a Haemonculus and a Succubus, but like Brooks has said Ufthak is literally his OC so that explains everything lol||
Serves them right
Lame ass
They kinda did it to themselves too
I mean that still doesnt really excuse it tho
"we cant work as a team" like wtf lmao
and its not even really that scene itself, the entire book the orks just come out ontop because plot and the entire "strategy" of the dark eldar is just... attack them headon, lose and retreat, they do this 3 times
Im glad Brooks at least made it in a sub-realm, so i can cope with that 💀
Your bias is showing but fair
...
Wanting a faction to perform well is bias?
Ufthak gets shot by a dark matter cannon but is fine because "he wore extra armor" even though thats not how that gun works.
Same with him getting injured by a gun that is literally impossible to survive due to bone spikes literally growing out of your body but a Dok just injecting him with stuff fixes it instantly i guess.
Sure buddy

the drukhari themselves also said that the amount of sedatives given to him also most likely affected the outcome of that particular injection
Okay but again, thats not really how it works.
Sedatives wont stop your bones from exploding
like its good if you enjoyed the book since its very much "turn your brain off" stuff but these points i make are not exactly unfounded either.
as I said, fair
Dok just injected him with the anti bone hurting juice
had a bit of plotarmorioum rejuvenants in it
Ulfthak hitting the dark eldar with the round house specially by telepoting with one of them
He is basically Brook's OC so checks out
hey at least the love story was better than twilight
and the poor bloke got what he deserved
I dont know what was worse, him not killing the archon or humiliating her and letting her live
lmao
the archon's brother got smoked and i'm pretty late with the details but i'm sure she was one of the few that realized how dangerous ulfthak was
and then the succubus decided to make him fight in an arena
Yeah that section was stupid
like this towering monster thrives off battle and literally clobbered some of the best assassins you have
yeah let's make him fight in a arena
I love the book but my god that was f****** stupid
also singlehandedly beat off a mandrake attack by himself
yeah like the dark eldar act stupid every time
Yeah and literally got large enough to throw a space marine and had the strengths to cave in the chest of one with a punch wearing armor by the way
Yeah they still looked at this thing that crunched a space marine with its bare hands as a plaything
Yeah what i liked with Brutal Kunnin was that Ufthak at least had some urgency and was still having trouble doing certain things.
In this book he faces absolutely zero opposition
he has no trouble doing anything
Yeah like the most trouble he had was the man drake attack
pretty successful until princess
Decided to eat a bit of shadow that time
Yeah i do think that his story has nowhere else to go though
He's now a war boss and a leader of his own army
I don't know how much you are going to be able to do with that character
Same as this
Pit him against some other faction and have him win
All these two books have been about so far
Maybe actually have him have a go out it with kaptin badrukk
Because i'm pretty sure in brutal kunnin he him dirty
Im calling it now, same scenario as this but it will be necrons vs Ufthak.
Mark my words.
Well brooks is making a dark elder book so let's see how much he can redeem himself with that
Or not at all
Is he writing the Lelith book?
yes
In this case it has no Ufthak
so we'll see
maybe she wont get her brains splattered
Ufthak makes a surprise appearance in the final act and beats Vect to death
Funny because it would happen
He would use a teleporter to hit one of his enemies in the book with an RKO
https://www.blacklibrary.com/series/the-horusian-wars
https://www.blacklibrary.com/warhammer-40000/novels/the-carrion-throne.html (3 books in total starting with this one)
https://www.blacklibrary.com/all-products/maledictions-a-horror-anthology-2019.html (Short story collection, some very good short tales in here)
ooh thnx
Np np, the Inquisition has like... 4 novel series across like 30 years which isnt much.
yea rarely able to find a good 1
Horusian Wars is from the mid 2000's but is a good read, Vaults of Terra is "recently" new from a few years ago.
i see
Maledictions is unconnected Inquisition short stories so think like a TV show with every episode being someone else
otherwise they got squat aside from Eisenhorn/Ravenor
yea i kinda like this
Yeeee
I think i can understand why now

Is it me or the first short story of maledictum is so vague
I dont get it
No i kinda dont like it
Theres an entire reddit thread for it since its so confusing

LMAO
again its a short story collection so some will be not as good as others
did my man get fucked by an abominable intelligence????
I see
An ai with multi personality disorder?
Yep, its an old ship and from DAOT
Oh nvm it wasnt multi personality disorder
Yeah the others are not that confusing and generally straightforward, you just need to remember with 40k short stories its like 30 pages max
Yea it kinda cleared up now
so the author is generally forced to just cram everything in there and sometimes it doesnt make a lot of sense lol
I see
Yeee hence the varying quality
It is very skippy on the introduction of the main character in the story so prolly that why it so convoluted
Yea
yeeee
with books you get more buildup, in shorts its
"Hey you are here. Heres the plot."
I wish GW would hire me to write official stuff. I have a brilliant idea for a story that centers around Doomrider's severed head going on adventures
might just write it out if they actually take pitches
or for fun
Black library does hold community things every year
But it's usually of limited scope
Like the last time it was "Short Stories about existing Codex Compliant Space Marine Chapters"
They'll usually have a set theme they want and it's not really a case of "Show us your wackiest ideas"
Yeah its slop.
My friend got excited to submit before realising last minute it was a stupid Marine story submission lol
instantly stopped writing
I wonder if it would be fun to try a writing contest thing in this server
I cant imagine 💀
My friend talked about submitting a story about the Lamentors to the last one, dunno if she finished it.
I'd also planned on writing for it, but I've not finished a project in years

@tall phoenix

You all kept telling me to get it
poggers
Its making me want to play hitman lol

LMAO
Warhammer: Agent 47000
Morning Bookfolks.
Hi hi
Howdy
they find new authors somehow. I do believe there are moments where you can submit applications. but I've really no idea
I vaguely recall that a friend knew somebody that was a published BL author, like 10+ years ago.
maybe @mellow knot knows
They don’t accept uninvited submissions outside of open windows unless you have a published history.
Reading through the word bearers omnibus and the fucking battles between chaos and the mechanicus are so funny
Word Bearers are such assholes too lmao
I just swapped all my red corsairs to WB for my minis
Love assholes
@tall phoenix it's good so far. Epsilon just got his mission.
Has the cruelty I like from warhammer books
Told ya so
Just like how mom used to do it 🙏
Assasinorum training lul
Look what came in 👀

Yeah you will now see all the hate for this series is warranted
but also you get the traumatic brag-rights i guess 💀
Should I play the games beforehand to make my experience even worse?
Honestly i almost wanna say yes but up to you
I think the Blood Ravens Omnibus just concerns itself with DOW1
It’ll be funny as shit
Excellent. I'll play through DoW1 while I'm finished with Lord of the Night then i'm starting this must read novel. || then i may take a break from warhammer books depending on my sanity levels ||

also pro-tip probably play on easy
Dow1 is a good game but fuck me the levels can get mulchy as fuck
I'm mostly dreading the modding steps i'll propably have to take so it runs smoothly on a modern PC
DoW1 is a grind lol

also im pretty sure DOW1 runs well?
like you dont really need any mods for it at all, the only problem might be the resolution and thats pretty much it
It’s a little crashy
That's good news then
Yeee what Elite said thats kind of it
Post Dow1/Winter assault they are pretty playable
theres a reason Dark Crusade is a fan-favorite
and we definitely don't have a fourth expansion
(it runs like shit)
On modern hardware it needs a 4gb patcher
And make sure you save before destroying a HQ or else it may crash
and also you can't rebind keys
hi gamers. ive been a Warhammer 40k fan for years but like a lot of people, just focused on the Space Marines - I wanna get some novels on Imperial guard and i always heard Gaunt's Ghosts was a good series but can you guys recommend any good or "essential" omnibus?
We got some good starter recommendations beside gaunt on the pins in this channel, take a look there

gaming

b...b ... BLHUUUUUHHD REAEAVAANS!!! FOR THE EEEMPERRAAAHHHHH
GIFTS FOR THE CHAPTER!!!!!
STEAL RAIN!!!!
STEAL EVERYTHING!!!
BRUVA I AM PINNED HERE!!
wait, is the book really that bad? lol
Some novels due it super briefly as a small chapter and it lasts for a few pages.
Theres no tyranid centric novel.
awww damn, I was hoping for a good book about them space kleptos. Do any exist?
Nope lol
damn, lol
the kleptomania thing is also a meme so
even if they did have another other book its not what they do

its exactly how I played DoW 2
full on deranged klepto loot goblins
Also, DOW2 is why I always read Mkoll's voice as Steve Blumm in Gaunt's Ghosts.
Its just too perfect for him
If you look at Blum's imbd he has voiced guys like Mkoll for like 20 years in animation/games.
so I dont blame you
Mkoll is the most Steve Blumm dude to ever Steve Blumm
you and fuegonasus have posted your final faceswap memes gozaru 🎍
man I gotta watch that show
holy fuck yes you do
ive binged the first half of the season last night because I had to potty train puppy
im that samurai irl btw

It's a very, very good show. The writing and acting are top notch. Some disliked the ending ||because if defied expectation ||but I loved it.
hey so i wanna start reading 40k novels any reccs on where to start
guard or mechanicus centric would be sick
We got some on the link in the pins here that could help you out
tytyyy
Forges of Mars and the Great Work great are probably the best
last chancer series is pretty good
also pretty funny too
stuff like ork psychic missile VBIED is absolute bonker
looks like Gaunt's Ghosts is the most recommended for Astra M
so im gonna try and find an omnibus or something
Technically four or five although the last ones aren’t out yet I don’t think
The Victory I consider one omnibus tbh
gaunt ghost series is real good
They’ve just become more spread out in release
just finished reading it weeks ago
They are quite good, one of my intros
yea
oh shit yea nearly forgot that
If you’re recommending a series
but The Lost Omnibus Vol II is $90
wtf
GW printing
is weird
Founding Omnibus recently got reprinted
The Lost hasn't been in a while
do they not want people to get into this stuff?!
yeah. . . digital just doesnt feel the same as holding a book tho
Those aren't sold from GW, those are sold from independent third party sellers on amazon, it's the same as buying used copies off ebay
fuck man, i sound old i guess
Its not GW's pricing unfortunately
yeah but GW doesnt have 2 day shipping
they get sold at a much more reasonable price normally
GW doesn't print them anymore
black library is smol
They can't afford to keep on printing all their books
for better or for worse
oh i see
so they just do reruns every once in a while
I sold my word bearer's omnibus for like 120 USD with Kol Badar on the cover and then got the same thing on my kindle for 20 bucks ezpz
so they print some books, they go out of print, then 3rd parties mark up the price
E-books are the best method of reading 40k books
why do that tho, if the books are making them money
Yea they become collector's items
bcs not all the prints they've run have made them money
paper back will never be a collectors item tho!!!
the paper backs for horus heresy are collector items lol
And GW also can barely keep up model production
im in shambles
they cannot 💀
They prob make more off of licensing audio book sales
the nottingham grid screams in agony
than paperback
third factory on the way!
whenever GW turns on all their factories at once
because what the fuck lmao
Yes, it notably strains the grid
medieval ass country
that is one of GW's biggest issues lmao
Experiencing brownouts so I can buy more chaos space marines is hilarious I love GW
that they can't turn on all the factories at once sometimes
or else they'll cause a fucking brownout
Actually hilarious
because everyone is watching football
New Sheriff of Nottingham meta unlocked
but yeah unfortunately buying physical books for Warhammer in general
is kind of painful
I'm debating selling off all my horus heresy paperbacks
I'd make so much money
Was able to collect them really easily by just ordering them from charity booksellers
real?
what
Goodwill lul
oh nvm it prolly our shitty 2nd book selling place just doesnt have it
i love being a third worldie
my dude, i had 21 of the books, some in hardcover that i sold about 9 years ago. i remember being surprised i was able to get $500 USD out of them . .
now i guess i look dumb?
Damn coulda made a lot more money
I think my copy of solar war and titandeath are worth like 200 bucks combined lol
and they're paperback
thats pretty wild. i didnt think you could make a paperback collectors. .
blame/its because of GW's funny printing schedule
GW loves accidentally or intentionally creating scarcity
But buying a kindle basically fixed warhammer reading for me
I can read whatever I want whenever I want regardless of the weather or time of day or inside or outside and get to pay retail
Also you're getting fucking RIPPED on amazon like 90 percent of the time
can get stuff MUCH cheaper on Ebay
if you want the codex for lore get the 8e one @noble dirge
^
The 9th and 10th edition codexes copy paste shit straight from the older better codexes
My 3e dark eldar codex is the GOAT for art and lore
also the 30k codexes tell you nothing lore-wise for the most part
Alright I'm gonna go pick up my lunch after reading about a guy having his face clawed off in the WB omnibus brb
Yeah the new codex lore is the most disappointing new stuff to me
And how little new stuff there is
^
Every faction got squat
at first I chalked it up to Covid etc and lack of writers but like nah even past that its been terrible
Oh also I finished this yesterday and this was the goriest warhammer book I've ever read
this one?
aw man lol
this is the one that i have
just don't waste money on old codexes just look at them online lol
the 9e core rule book is fine
if you want a space marine codex for lore get this one
the 10e one is kind of ass
the 9e one is acceptable
8e one is good
wait mine is 9th edition? i thought it was 6th. .
hang on lemme go check wtf
I was talking about your cart
the 6e core rule book also ironically sucks
but 6e as a whole kind of fucking sucked
Aight hang on i have this bullshit
It doesnt even say what edition
anyone know what these are?
7th edition
I can recognize it because it has the "modern" art style GW adopted after 5e
is this a dogshit edition and i should still try and get 8th?
7th editions core rule book is good for lore
its just not "modern" lore
since the galaxy hasn't been torn in half yet
but its still great
imo
aight so i'll still try and get 8/9e
@tall phoenix just gave a student my copy of the battle of the fang
😭 I've started them on this terrible path we all walk
you're like that one teacher who's actually cool
Are the Gotrek and Felix books a good way to introduce someone to fantasy?
Yes
Gotcha
Are there any physical books left for Gotrek and Felix or is it all kindle?
they're 20 year old books, they do reprints every now and then but it isn't common
Damn
you might get lucky and find the omnibus collections somewhere
yeah those are pretty readily available
Oooo
there are 5 omnibuses
I see I see
I was checking the Canadian version of Amazon and wasnt seeing anything
Anthologies are a great way generally of introducing folks into BL stuff
Hey guys, just getting into the 40k world what’s a good book to purchase that has some badass characters
Oooo thanks
🙏
I’m assuming the The Eisenhorn omnibus is all three books in one?
Omnibus is basically "We bundled the series in order into a single thing" yep
Awesome. Pumped to get it. Didn’t realise how vast this 40k universe is
Yeah theres books about almost anything
Pro tip is find the faction you like the most, read some of their books then spread out from there
Man those space marines they looking pretty buff from here 😶🌫️

yeah the Imperium and especially space marines got the most books due to being the human faction so they are the most numerous
Haha nice, what’s your favourite?
Most Necrons books are great, Guard have a lot of good books I feel like although there’s also plenty of meh ones.
Most books following inquisitors are pretty fun
any other good books about orks? ive read the mike brooks ones and the ghazghkull novel so far
thinking of getting the yarrick omnibus bc it seems interesting with his relationship with ghazghkull
have you read the red gobbo?
i have not no
there's three books the story of this supposedly very lucky and amazing grot
And I haven't gotten around to reading them
still more than tau
Damn cant download that
Not 40k but has anyone read Matthias Thulman?
Alright, i just finished my second book "Dead Men Walking". I didn't like the story as much as i did my first book, but i loved the way The Death Korps of Krieg were shown in the book. The book had its highs and lows but that could be just my own bias. Overall i thought it was 6.5 out of 10.
sidenote, i think both the readers for the books i listened too on audible were fantastic
Its definitely a bit of an overrated book imo
Its good but i just didn't really enjoy it personally, though in my case it was mostly me finding the grimdark/fatalism of the book too goofy to take seriously, the ending especially
I thought it was such a weird ending, lit was sudden and kind of felt a bit forced. ||the commissars death|| felt a bit weird as well, i get his role was to be the heart that the kriegs men needed, However its a bit insane of... Moral? he was if that makes sense. also found the senators niece story to be a bit boring. As for Gunther, ||i thought trooper Kirwan was going to have his story instead before he was killed||
However, thought could just be me
Nah thats entirely fair, theres a reason Lyons Krieg books range from Ok to Meh
hes literally the only author that writes for them at all lol
the ending was ||just laughable for me since he just puts on essentially a Krieg cosplay and goes to die, it was just funny lmfao||
kind of a shame because i actually think the group is really interesting.
I thought the Exact same thing, ||The whole thing of the senators niece just bailing with another guy while he is just left too die was a laughablely overkill for even by grimdark standard||
Yeah i just went "Oh well okay i guess thats the ending" lol
even for a classic 40k "everyone dies" ending it was a bit
well mostly everyone i guess
bro, through out the book i couldn't find myself to feel like the situation was that bad. though, to be fair the book i read before it was the fall of cadia, ||were the planet was just ERASED After a war the killed possibly 99.999 of the population (Plus the fact that all the survivors were to be executed because they SAW the enemy)||
To be fair in the case of Cadia its Roberth Rath so it WAS written well
Dead Men Walking just gives the vibe of "eh okay i guess" for me after everything, I really could not care less about the main character so the moment he goes full krieg cosplay i was just checked out
Same, i was wanting to like it a bit more, I know how hard it is to write a story. However, the lows were hard to ignore
Yep it happens with 40k books so consider this your first intro into it imo.
If you want a less doom and gloom novel/series id suggest Assassinorum: Kingmaker or Forges of Mars after this
with like actually good plot too
I heard a lot of good things about forges of mars, so i am probably going to get that one next
Its a trilogy so pack some popcorn and drinks
awesome, I love having lots of good content

also keep in mind the book is also from pre-Rift 40k
so like the mid 2000's where the universe was basically stuck in a limbo without anything huge happening
i see, that's fine. i have a rough time line for the pre rift stuff so i don't think i will be too confused
Yeah basically any pre-2017 40k book is pre-rift
its one of the biggest events to change the setting since before then the galaxy is a lot more "calm" and its just people trying to kill each other with normal war stuff 24/7 lol
Someone looked at Warhammer 40k and said,"... needs more war and grimdark, lets cut it in half"
Just read the first short story of the "Sabbat worlds"
Man

I'll just stick to more space marine slop, I'm not ready for the feels
added to my list next
I thought the night lords were just crazies but Lord of the Night is starting to make me believe thet Curze and his sons might have some character to them
Its very very very just in that trilogy
Oh well
beyond that 40k Night Lords have always been just generic evil psychopaths.
Yeah thats what you get when your faction is just a footnote
dont expect good writing for NL beyond that series lmfao
I heard good things about the omnibus tho
No im saying the Omnibus/Night Lords series is good, just dont expect any good NL content outside of it

It's interesting to see that true night lords reject Chaos
All right
Anyways is there more NL books besides HH slop?
Uhhh not really

Basically Night Lords have always been generic bad guys that torture, terror and flay people. This series came out, gave them some actual character; then after that it was back to the exact same deal.
They suffer from being a footnote chaos faction that isnt even a legion.
They are just all splintered warbands doing the exact same thing
They're just like the ||Eldar|| in term of books
Eldar got more variety ironically
Feels bad
their problem is they always suck/lose because Gav
Night Lords suffer from an identity crisis
That's in character tho 😉
and nobody wanting to write for them, they always end up as Generic Bad Guy that Flays People
its like uhhh
me watching night lords make scary villains look like babies with their usual activities
how nobody cares about Krieg much
Steve Lyon writes for them
the book ends up being meh
thrown in the pile
lol
Well, at least i'm enjoying Lord of the night
Just a few pages remaining then i'm onto dawn of war 💀
Literal trial by damnation
Could be worse. I could be reading the whole HH
If there 60 books in series. Better read lore summary
It's about the journey
Especially if your spurs go jingle jangle jingle
have any1 read the necromunda omnibus?
having a hard time trying to figure out why did the raid happen just becuz some guy decided to tap the power lines
did i missed something or it just the fact that im a third world english as a second language
From limited context, the Raid probably happened because they tapped a cable going to the Hive City
they did also mention stuff that you export into the uphive to sell which eventually falling back onto you so that kinda supported that the raid happened becuz some1 did tapped into the line
but why was it so horrible that the main character just wont mention it to any1
