no thats just any decadent human empire

Bro the Bene Gesserit chapters are WILD 💀
Herbert was on some good shrooms writing this
Let's breed || 9 yo super twins to create super humans with 0 problems what so ever||
these women be going nuts 💀
gotta save money to buy the dune books it seems
@tall phoenix you ever read or watch AOT?
Attack on Titan?
Ye
Oh the anime changes the ending and made it better
It's not changed by much just stuff is revealed in different orders
And a bit extra is added
But the ||attack titan powers reminded me of dune a lot||
Lmao honestly i wouldnt be surprised if there was inspiration
Dune inspired a lot of franchises with sci-fi elements in general
It still has "No I don't want that" 💀
AoT still has a terrible ending in my eyes lol
Its still a lot less awful then what was written originally
still bad
Anime makes it a lot more palatable by not showing Eren as much sympathy
Eren was right btw
dead serious kek

Daijobu
the fact there's so much controversy means the author did something right
but yes back to 40k
Why is it so bad?
I kinda liked it since ||it seems like the second best option besides killing everyone not on the island.
Like what else you suppose to do once it's started.
It also got the slave her closer||
The animes is less bad but in the manga ||way too much sympathy is shown to Eren and also there's like almost 0 chance the rest of the world even post rumbling would just forget about what was done, Its pretty illogical they don't finish wiping out every single Eldian||
but this isn't 40k so
wrong chat
Yeah manga was not as good
so how do ya'll feel about End and The Death part 2
Back to 40k
Seems interesting I might read it one day but I feel like I want context behind what's going on
Feels like there's a little too much filler ngl
But from what I heard in the first end and death book you just have a million characters from all SM chapters slapping each other endlessly and I forgot every one but garro taul Saul and a few others
last note on this: ||Paradis goes get nuked into oblivion much later after Eren's time so he was basically vindicated after the fact||
Yeah but that's the ||idea history just repeats it self and eren only gave them the even playing field.
Even ended with THAT TREE||
My journey into the books of 40k has begun
Nice
Um its 30k akshully 🤓, unironically hope you have fun with it
Isstvan still hurts
III
||that betrayal and knowing from there everything's just gonna tumble into irrecoverable hell just hits different||
I will this is my first ever time reading a 40k
Book
I read all three darth bane books that was a ride and a lot to read. Had me on the edge of my seat the whole time.
don't be disappointed, as the HH books arent that easy for beginners, not familiar with the universe. There are better books to get a foot into the door on that regard. Not that its somewhat complicated, its just the technical words and such arent that good explained
i quite enjoyed the first 5 books of the horus heresy
not everything is written perfectly but still helps give a clearer picture of the whole event
Yeah it just sprawls everywhere
I think at that point someone can just pick and choose which stories they wanna follow
tbh i dont mind the fact that it kinda goes all over the place
im reading all of them purely for the lore at this point
I mean thats the thing tho
it doesnt really have any lore
its just following the Heresy script
especially when one of the space marines asks his captain “did this mean anything? Did we hurt them?” as they’re about to get wiped out by the traitor forces

Thats the subtitle of the warhammer franchise
Just finished Only in death GG11 audiobook
As a queer woman who has read romance novels made for and by members of my community, the first three Horus Heresy novels somehow manage to be the fruitiest series of books I've read by sheer weight of subtext alone, and that's the only significant detail I've remembered from them.
It's pretty good I actually liked only in death how they
(MAJOR SPOILERS FOR THE BOOK guants ghosts 11)||killed guant off and had everything constantly going to shit the whole book||
||Especially liked the end when it turns out all to bad shit visions was the house and all the good visions that protected them was the there old friend who was carted off and horribly horribly mutilated.||
So your one of those ever read the manhwa how to fight?
Not sure I follow.
I'm just presuming you meant the subtext is gay coded.
The Horus Heresy novels as a whole feel like you're watching people try to add nuance and narration to a Chess Game you already know the major plays in. Even when someone has good character moments, it's as a result of them being able to stop and breath for a moment before James Workshop shoves them along to make the plot go forward again.
With that being said: The Horus Heresy starts with our protagonist meeting all of his handsome and mysterious new battle brothers at a campfire under the stars in secret before he's sworn-in to their secret organization. It also has Sanguinius eating fruit in a robe while said protagonist just stares in awe. Fun books when read about the Emperor's most confused supersoldier.
It couldn't be any more gay coded if Alan Turing wrote it.
Turns out I'm extremely gaydar blind to all sub text because I didn't even realise the whole manhwa that the MC and this other guy have a running gag of him saying super sus dialogue
Apparently to my female cousin it's me who's the strange one who doesn't presume every man is automatically gay
After she pointed it out it was kinda obvious
Y'see, the GG books were always a miss for me because ||the inherent issue with saying "this universe is so deadly and dangerous" is that the longer the series goes on, the less deadly and dangerous it feels as they need to increase the stakes to keep you buying new books. It almost felt like a cop-out at that point because Gaunt had survived so much you're kind of surprised it took anything less than literally facing Khorne in the Warp to kill him.||
||Well its book 11 out of like I think 16 so you know he's sticking around for a while.
I don't really mind them keeping him alive if hes alive hes fighting suffering with the ghosts and thats basic all you need for a good story||
youwouldntgetit.gif
Honestly I had less that issue, and more I started really getting bored. Their is a lot of repetition that you start detecting in GG, and also the suspension of disbelief that this IG regiment with no homeworld can get pulled into dire conflicts and somehow keeps not running out of manpower, like un-named troopers keep regenerating for plot reason off camera.
Realizing that Ciaphas Cain and Gaunt's Ghosts are very close to being the same series, I think the difference is that at least Cain is having fun or getting fed-up with what's going on. That adds a lot for myself.
The Cain novels are fairly self aware in a enduring way.
goes through a lot of effort to make Cains survival absurd, but somehow believable
something that Cain himself regularly questions, and ackowledges its absurd
I mean there’s a book about two tech priests in love that “saved a planet from an invasion” by activating the virus bomb that only they had the encrypted key too which was just the day they got married or engaged something like that
Sandy mitchell writes can as a blackadder style character. Ghost is just a action novel extended into a epic.
@tall phoenix on the third malus book, I can’t get enough
Finished the second book in one shot
lets gooo
Malus' series ends a bit briefly and his death in the End Times is shit but that doesn't stop his series from being greta
Lots of characters suffered brutal and quick deaths in the end times and that’s okay imo
Like brunner shoots a pistol at archaon with the hopes of killing him and then just gets slashed at the siege of some city in the north where chaos kills ulrics flame
Lokhir fellheart gets disemboweled and watches the world end on a beach as he bleeds out
Mazdamundi gets blown up
These homies were not messing around
It’s so funny the dark elves were the good guys of fantasy all along
LMAO
I can name more characters with shit deaths then good deaths in Endtimes ngl
archaeon getz kicked in da nutz by grimgor da biggest baddest of the orkz
I’m about to finish the third book, I can’t believe you’ve done this to me
3 books in a week
What’s your favorite and least favorite end times death
LMAO BRO
Siggy embracing his inner Dork Elf
Why did you unleash Tzarkan upon me dilara
Least favorite Thorgrim
My goal is to have the remaining 3 or 4 down by Sunday
So true
Favorite prolly goes to Karl Franz’s death
Or Ikit claw
Franz because it shows the utter hopelessness of the situation and how sometimes you can try your best and still fail
I love when my beloved childhood heroes had swift deaths just for ten of them to be reborn as league of legends characters in a new universe as I entered college in 2016
And Ikit Claw because he fucking nuked the black pyramid of nagash into a pile of rubble
Which goes hard
I’m very excited for the return of the old world
Memes aside Age of sigmar has some fantastic books and is really a refreshing and unique universe
I don’t remember
But I have no clue how he could have survived turning the black pyramid of nagash to rubble
By digging into it
Climbed into a fridge probably
And planting a nuke
Lol
Finubar had a funny death
Malekith was like yoooo wassup P-SSY what it do locked up in your tower fuck you bitch
comedy ensues
I’m gonna make a lore channel reading shit in my New Jersey accent and coughing inbetween copywritten art panels and make millions
Lol
Just finished the third malus darkblade book
If I read the fourth by Sunday I’ll have broken my books read in a week record with 4 books read in a week
lets goooooo
I’m just not looking forward to the last book at all lmfao
I know it was a rushed end times book given to Clint Werner instead of abnett and Lee which is ANNOYING
Reading his book seires was half the reason I was hype-af when his DLC for Total War was coming out
He was my pfp on a few forums when I was a kid but I only had read lore pages lmfao

Lol
Are there any other trazyn books beyond war in the museum and of course infinite and the divine?
The Fall of Cadia book has Trazyn chapters in it and he is amazing and true to character since its Rath writing him once again, but alas hes just a side character in it.
Aside from that unfortunately not really
Darn
GW try to give interesting xeno characters books challenge (impossible)
You're gonna be lucky getting a 3 in a year 💀
It’s not bolterporn so it won’t happen
YEP
Even though I’m fairly certain xenos sell pretty well considering, idk if it’s as well as imperium but eh
but as we keep recommending you id highly suggest the Path of the Dark Eldar next, its Pre-Rift 40k and really good.
Xenos sell but not enough compared to Space Marines
Yeah I’ll have to pick them up
Yeee its 3 books, get an omnibus
I’ve a few more necron books to read yet though
Excellent

definitely Twice Dead too
just be warned its not "fun", more just depressing

I love depression
it still has some very fun moments
whilst being one of the best 40k stories all together
so suddenly out of nowhere amazon has an omnibus listed again which i have been trying to find for nearly a full year now
out of nowhere saviour of the imperium is available again
i bought this for 10 bucks luckily
saviour is the only one im missing but its been one of the most elusive books ever
I love having a kindle thank you Amazon
@tall phoenix it’s time for your daily siggy ping and update sadly
I’m about to start book four of mr dark blade, my fave part of book 3 was when his sister had taken him over and he was a heroic military commander for about 100 pages
It’s so funny seeing how he could be a heroic type character if he wasn’t such an ASS HOLE
Insane they were the good guys all along
I remember saying that on 4chan during the end times and getting ripped apart as a teenager
“And I’d be like but malekith is the true pheonix king?”
“How can he be evil if he was destined to be the most noble of elves?”
grognarding ensues
He is the most noble elf.
Halfway through the fourth book, he’s still evil
hes just a goober
Kurwa bober
I can’t stop reading these books man, my gf fucking hates me as she’s a constant reader and she has finished one book this week while I’m about to finish my fourth, my eyes are bloodshot and strained, but with hate anything is possible
LMAO
to be fair
most warhammer books are like uh, 200 pages or so?
That is really not a lot
BOBER
The dark blade books are about 400 each
Not to suck myself off but I have always been an insanely fast reader
thats normal tbh
Sucking myself off? Of course

I've seen a rumor floating around that Nate Crowley is working on a LoV vs Necrons book.
I've only seen it on reddit though so take it with a grain of salt
Man that would be amazing if it turns out to be true
Any new faction rumour out to be in 10th? As there a reducated on the codex list. Same as they did with custodes and ethier lov or weorld eaters in 9th.
@astral delta @drowsy urchin
A short story
I'll take it
it just means it won't have an audio book version of it
Emperor's Children for the REDACTED one probably
I am very doubtful of that but it is not impossible
for WE we heard about them like 2 years before they were released and we've heard nothing about a EC faction release
Nah its the second legion they are revealing

But wouldnt EC make the most sense since all of the other gods have there own legion codex?
pretty much yeah
its why it was my assumption
they'll prob tease em beforehand, we got until the Summer of 2024, thats a lot
what's a codex?
Rule/Lorebooks for factions on the tabletop
the entire lore originaly came from the tabletop game or some kind of books?
or both in some way?
Mostly the tabletop
The lore in it's entirety is basically just set dressing for the tabletop lol
tech priest are on the emperor side? if so how come they talk about the Omni god guy but fanatics keep repeating theres only one god and it's the emperor
It's generally accepted by their Cult that Emps is the Omnissiah
Which is in essence their Jesus figure
They worship the Machine God, the Omnissiah is it's will made manifest or something along those lines
emps = emperor?
Ya
is the emperor on the same page as for being the Omnissiah?
It was his design yeah
aigh't lel
Getting them to believe that and serve him was easier than subjugating Mars back when the Great Crusade was about to kick off
other then humans there other martians that are on the emperor's side?
I don't think I understand
i know the empire as the "man kind" faction
is there other living races that are on the empror's side? which are not abhuman
Nop
Those are just human subtypes
are there female ogryn?
Ye
aigh't sweet, thanks for answering
oh
hol' up
is there an end game plan or the emperor just expands to look for other aliens to fuck around with?
I mean he's pretty occupied being dead atm
oh
The end end game was to get humanity to ascend to a psychic race or something like that
But frankly we dunno
are the people aware he's dead and theres just lots of propaganda making people belive he still exsists?
We should also probably take this to #40k-lore-chat
Nah him Martyring himself is a pretty big point
i would but they weren't nice to me there
they even deleted my msg saying it agents the server rules even doe it wasn't
so i think they got thier eye on me there
ahh aigh't
Same people are in this chat
so... the emperor left instructions for folk to continue?
how old was he when he kicked the bucket?
The imperium is kind of an aimless bloated thing at this point
<_>
Older than 30k years old
At least 33 thousand years old i think?
He was born a hittite in Anatolia
do people precreate only naturally or theres other ways of making people
i heard they clone some Krieg guy
There's ways to clone but it's arguably not cloning?
Some plants grow people in Vats, but it's highly uncommon
Like the tech is there but the imps don't really use it
imps?
They do more artificial embrio type deals
Short for Imperials
Dead
how did cadia exploded?
He's in a pseudo state of "undeath". Physically alive, strapped to the golden throne, but he's essentially a husk.
Abaddon the Despoiler crashed a Blackstone fortress into the planet
This got dropped on it
It's pretty large
it's at a size of a planet or something?
Moon at least
or it just fell into a certain weak spot?
how do you even drop something like that? ain't it supposed to have it's own gravy force?
It can fly
or laws of physic work difrently in this?
It's a space ship
It was pushed into cadias gravity well
It's generators got crippled so a good chunk of the Black Fleet rammed it and sent it flying into the planet
how come those dreg, poxwalkers and other folk get corupted but the other don't?
you need to do it willingly?
Gameplay convenience
Will power and plot armor
And the scabs are still "new"
scabs are the armor guys?
Though also pretty deformed if you look at them
they seem abit more "with thier senses" then the other ones
Yeah. Not too sure on the lore of dregs vs scabs. I'm sure we'll know more as the darktide series progresses
I'd argue they're almost more out of it
are pox walker just brain dead or it's some kind of hive mind thing?
Since they genuinely think they're doing the right thing
It's a disease. Theyre just zombies essentially
Poxwalkers are aware but are suffering from locked in sysndrome and have no control of there actions
the scabs (the armored guys) are also infected?
Ye
they don't act like zombies, they talk and use weapons
I mean take a look at the bruisers/shotgunners
Nurgle kinda infects everything he controls. It's sort of his thing
Or the bomber
Youll never really find anything nurgle-y that doesn't look horribly disgusting
so it is a hivemind thing?
why pox walkers walk with thier body all over the place but the scabs don't since thy're infected with the same thing?
I don't think they are infected with the same thing. Pox walkers are infected with nurgles pox (I think there's a diff name, someone can correct me), but the scabs have received nurgles blessing, to a small extent.
enforcers must be psykers?
No
Which makes them ugly and deformed, but they don't lose their personal autonomy
you can only be born a psyker or you can also become one?
The hivemind is a thing only among Tyranids
(which we may see genestealers in later patches)
so theres more diseases the makes you hostile to others
You have to be born a psyker
Nurgle has millions of diseases
They all do different things, but they all have a central theme of decay
Nah you can get psychic powers
do psykers go to some kind of psyker camp to controll thier powers?
Through various means
i heard most of the psykers get fed to the emperor, how does that work?
They're typically taken away on blackships to either be fed to the Golden Throne or trained
1 poxwalkers are basically just zombies there is no hivemind for them. 2 enforcers are just normal humans but santioned psykers can be sent to assist them.
Can you? My understanding is you can have latent psychic powers, but are born with them, and discovered later
You can
Sorcery lets you do it iirc
Also there's drugs that let you manifest psychic stuff
And from what I remember it can even be trained
Sorcery is different from being a psyker i thought
They seem to be synonymous
daemon hosts are psykers that "awoke"?
No they're possessed
Daemonhosts are possessed himans
Daemonhosts are warp creatures anchored to reality through a host
what are daemons?
It is but I think it can be used to unlock psyker stuffs
The mortal body binds the daemon to the material world
Daemons are daemons, creatures of the warp who eat souls
These nice and reasonable things
Daemons are just creatures that live in the warp. It's sort of a catch all for everything born on the "otherside"
Although they're referred to sometimes as the neverborn
they force themselfs into hosts or you need to do something inorder for a daemon to get to ya?
Both
Depending on the circumstances
You can give yourself freely via ritual, or if the viel between the warp and real space is thin enough, daemons can jack your body
is one of the psykers in darktide aware he's in a video game or something?
he has a voice line where he's correcting the sub tittles
saying he wishes the other characters were real
Oh
and he looks at the player sometimes during the loading screen
Yeah, depending on the character creation you chose, there is a psyker variant who is crazy
just a jist from the devs or it has something to do with the lore?
Literally crazy
Just a fourth wall break
Thinks he's in a dream
It’s the German sounding psyker
That's Loner psyker
With the 4th wall break
He says Foreshortened lifespans
Only the male one?
Which sounds like Four shortened lifespans
so just a dev joke?
Yeah
Both do
Nvm then
I think anyway
Point being psykers sometimes can uh
I don't hear fem loner much
There's a reason why pskyers get gobbled up by black ships
For example in game, the beast of nurgle is a daemon
they feed the psykers to the emperor so he can keep on being in that half dead state?
they usually break into reality via rituals or holes in reality
oh
and need to maintain their presence somehow
Most psykers are just killed or shipped to Terra. Very few are allowed to do anything, due to how dangerous interacting with the warp is.
so if a daemon gets through he can start a whole faction and war
**Which means there's a hole in reality in Tertium somewhere **
since the beast of nurgle is sustained and most likely not a fresh summon
Correct
dam bro that's crazy
unironically the Cult of Admonition might have started because of a Daemon
who knows
Technically, as regular humans, if you even saw symbols of chaos, you'd start to lose your mind
mmm
what if he's "beloved" it one of them o.o
Chaotic taint
If you see a daemon, you go crazy. Either corruption or death
Beloved is like
99.9% chance of being a demon
if you have strong enough will power no, but also thats rare
don't exist
at this point i don't really see good and bad
They may, and they may be getting consumed in the warp
but My Beloved is uh
Like Legion of the Damned
just the eeky ones and humans
Is probably not
lol
Likely imperial daemons. But cannot be confirmed
a shard of the emperor
They practically speaking act like Daemons
%
Have weapons that ignore physics + armor, incredibly durable, cause vox's and recording devices to freak out, can get banished via being cut off from the warp
I'd say that the Legion of The Damned pretty firmly count as daemons
Imperium aligned ones, but if it quacks like a duck, looks like a duck, floats like a duck, I'll call it a duck
It'd agree, but I can't say definitively.
true
are there any aligetions that the emperor himself is a daemon?
GW may never tell us
In the warp it could be a gorilla instead, it's hard to say
No because anyone stupid enough to say that out loud
would literally get killed on the spot
No, but he does get referred to as a "carrion lord"
lmao he's a daemon
The loner psyker calls him that
He eats human souls
Yeah, he's a weird thing now.
Somewhere inbetween warp entity and incredibly powerful psyker
golden throne is just a throne or it has other segnificance?
Golden Throne is Old Ones tech
Other significance
who are the old ones?
It's a highly advanced life support system
fix? the golden throne is broken?
They were definitely frogs
the ones who created most life in 40k
Those are Slann smh
The nemesis to the necroms
Necrons
Or at the time, necrontyr
Before their uh.... Change...
They died out after the War in Heaven + Enslaver plague
are the old ones are common knowledge withing the 40k universe or it's lost history?
The Deldar had a go at it, no? I'm not sure they figured out how to just keep it trucking on for now or not
I'd say lost history
Common Knowledge to Eldar and Necrons
...
for humans the Horus Heresy isn't even common knowledge lol
should i just start reading the books?
Yes
where do i start?
A haemonculus assumed he could make it work properly
we have no indication of if he was truthful or not
If you are interested, I have the entire Horus Heresy collection digitized I can PM you. It's all in PDF format.
that would be cool
like an all you can eat buffet
Read Dead Men Walking because it's my favourite
except its human suffering
i would order books but the borders are closed to mail atm
There is no good place to start.
My advice is find something you like, and start reading.
40k isn't a story. It's a setting, and stories occur within it.
oh
If you really want like an outline of the setting
so...
which one adress the vermentide 2 events?
I started watching YouTube videos about the siege of vraks, and then started reading Horus Heresy
Thats warhammer fantasy
or the closest to it?
Vermintide 2 is a different setting altogether
I see, ended up dropping it eventually because the writing style wasn't grabbing me. I don't remember too much
You will be sad
it could have been good
there's some stuff that was good in it
most of it was bad
like around 70% lol
sad cuz awful or sad cuz sad?
Sad cuz bad writing
mostly bad
or it's too awful to read?
its just bad writing
Sad cause awful
who are the authors of 40k?
I'd avoid Warhammer Fantasy lore honestly. It's how I started my Warhammer journey, but I don't recommend
There's a lot
There are dozens
like a lot a lot
A lot of Warhammer Fantasy is cool, but it's not the same as 40k
^
dozens? how they sync?
Through the imperial might of games workshop
the same serise
Most books are one offs
or duology/trilogy's
very few ware long running series
like... it's kinda fan cannon?
No no, it's all legit
but also not?
It's canon, contradictory and opposing as it is
which are explictly non canon lol
to be an warhammer author i need to join the team? if so how do i even start joining them? lol
Get hired/contracted
Sometimes Black Library holds contests where you submit your stories, I think?
oh kk
and they might ask for you again to write something
I do not pitty the people who have to read through the contests
The thing with the books that you have to realize, is that the books are told from the imperial standpoint. Sometimes they lie, sometimes there are "record keeping" errors. It's by design, so that the fans can head canon a lot of their stuff
yea
Also yeah
literally no 40k book
except for like
the rulebook
has an unbiased narrator
and the Rule book is just a lore dump lol
A flavour text dump more like
You may read a book, where the story is objectively true, but will be subjective to the person the story is being told through
looks at Fromsoft those can be the same thing
I'd stay away from fan fics. There's some good fan head canon out there, but id avoid anything non official
It'll obfuscate your understanding of the 40k verse
i.e. 40k fandom wiki
don't worry
too busy to read fan fics
Lexicanum is genuinely how I got started after seeing the DoW 1 trailer
It was fun honestly
how does one become a space marine?
Get chosen as a child
Broadly speaking you enter a deathmatch as a child and then get brainwashed when you win
cool
Lucky as in 1/1000
too bad i'm not a child anymore
maybe 1/10,000
tbh
I like how the Mortifactors do it, they just sweep down on cannibal planet and snatch a bunch of children before leaving
Dante is about 1800 now isn't he?
who do i play as in boltgun?
I think a bunch die in their 300s to 500s from combat injuries, but that's more a hunch on my part
its less toxic then its ever been
which is an improvement but
more work could be done
Space marines are immortal, technically speaking
yeah
They have additional organs which extend their life, supposedly infintely
But dante seems like he's falling apart
Poor guy just wants to due
die
But sanguinius is like, nah
Before he gets some blood he seems like an old and withered man in that book iirc
He's a bit better post Primaris treatment

I assume he's still tired
Yeah
I mean sometimes you have to fight angron
I mean you do whatvyou gotta do sometimes
He just watched Belial get fucking flattened lol
Before charging in
Belial got murked?
Ah, naturally. Near dead primarising
GW gotta sell those models
Calgar getting bodied is just another tuesday for him
At least they look good
Agreed, they look sick
Speaking of books, I just finished The End and The Death II and I can say Horus is a little b
Horus is just bing chilling
Book 4 done
I WAS JUST SUGGESTING
Lol
Just finished the Ragnar books
Pretty good
I have purchased a financially crippling amount of space wolves as a result
Malus was a fun read I think
well... I only made it to the third book
read loads of the Warhammer Monthly comic
it's enjoyable, a protagonist whos just such a bloody minded bastard
though what he did at the end of the second book gave even me pause
I always like the idea of Malus being evil gotrek
You recommend it if I like most of the gortrek and felix books?
I like them much more but mainly because it’s the goriest warhammer series I’ve ever read and malus is an insanely evil asshole
Nice will pick it up thanks
Be aware books 1-5 are the original series and book 6 is a rushed end times tack on that’s a good book but a different style
That's fine with me I'm currently going though the dune books and I heard 6 is kinda sort of a cliff hanger or something and then the author died before book 7 was made
Yea his kids picked up the writing iirc
Same thing w tolkien after LOTR
Thats correct.
Christopher Tolkien just be like oh my father wrote this, Trust me
He held it down though
yeah i will say Chris at least handled it better than Herbert's son
who literally just made the shittiest Dune "novels"
yea chris also has like
a RIDICULOUS amount of unpublished token stuff
tolkien journaled and wrote all the time, so he has a bunch of stuff
but it's not really "canon" cause Tolkien didn't really write his books with a Canon in mind in the modern sense
there is a decent chunk of contradictory stuff
Yeah he basically tried his best
Herbert's son meanwhile basically didn't understand anything about Dune and just posted his dad's work for quick bucks, people thankfully realised and dunked on his ass though so

@twilit plaza Sir, this is the book-channel lol
Lads,
I am looking for an Imperial Guard book: Any recommendations?
I enjoyed Witchbringer, it's about a Psyker in the Guard
i finally finished horus rising and i can just say fuck erebus man if he didnt steal that blade everything wouldve been fine
Everyone can mutually agree on fuck Erebus
He did humiliate luscious I think
Who hasn't at this point
That's true the guys so vain he is probably worried all day about who's gonna hurt his pride next

GW fumbled so hard with their attack on fan content
I don't think people are particularly impressed with Pariah Nexus either
Pariah Nexus was great! Also that animation is by the same guys who made Exodite for WH+
they it out on content crerators beacuse people were Doing lore that they didn't approve of.
The actual issue was profiting off it
morning star is the same guys who made exodite
Meant them, not people behind Pariah Nexus, my bad for being unclear
Actually don't know who are the people behind Pariah Nexus, nor what they've done prior
It's M2 Animation, they did the trailers for 9th/10ed, AoS 3rd Ed, kill team
Right, the style is pretty noticeably similar
It's why it took so long for Pariah Nexus to release since they's busy making GWs stuff
Though Pariah Nexus looks a bit better
Probably more time to work on it
True
I don't imagine they had a lot of time on the game trailers(except maybe kill team?)
Like for 10th especially you can see a lot of stiff stuff
But that's not really there in PN
Never thought I'd enjoy astory about the Word Bearers because of Erebus and all I have to say I am really enjoying the first heretic and have just gotten past the point that gave me shivers it is very few times that I have gotten such a physical reaction to a book I'm reading but yeah this is amazing
Without going into spoilers let's just call it the pilgrimage scene
Never trust the memes regarding the Word Bearers
Erebus might be a piece of shit but people love Word Bearers because they are just mustache twirling asshole villains and hide nothing about it while being holy fanatic madmen, its what makes them fun.
^ same energy
Fuck Erebus.
I love erebus because hes so unredeemable
Pure unrepentant villain shit
In the book World Engine, is the necron pov ever shown?
Don’t think so
Has anyone here read lords of silence ? If yes, do you think there's any hope for a trilogy ?
Probably not unfortunately.
I don't think so, the end of the book is open-ended though. The book builds up towards the plague wars are the beginning of the 13th black crusade so i'd recommend the Dark Imperium trilogy if you like nurgle things and want a kind-of follow up
Yeah but I want a nurglite pov >:[
You won't find a lot of Chaos perspective, they're out there though.
The Dark Imperium trilogy has parts from Mortarion's perspective, so Pagliacci's recommendation would be the best bet.
Dark Imperium has a lot of PoVs from nurglites perspective. Features Mortarion and Typhus a lot
And daemons
It's almost a 50-50 split between imperium and nurgle's forces pov
And the first book has some very interesting chapters but I don't want to spoil too much
Chaos chapters and Guilliman chapters were the best imo. The chapters featuring classic loyalist space marine stuff were less insteresting for me but they might be good for a fan of ultramarines I guess
Guilliman's PoVs are really nice though
I've also started the Soul Drinkers series and the first two books features nurglite antagonist but the first book was a drag
Soul Drinkers are solid.
"Chapters feautring classic loyalists marine stuff was less interesting for me"
Is what I apply to about half the BL book range.

Yea lol. I'm talking mostly about ultramarines being ultramarines. Also that self loathing Marneus Calgar
Truly one of THE Marines of all time.
I liked the beginning of the first book... but I found the factions on all side to be especially stupid later on. Second book was really nice. Third one is the next on my reading list
Fabius Bile books are fun
Newest one is funner
Nah, Genefather is just scratching the surface
the Bile trilogy is spectacular in comparison
Just finished the night lords omnibus.
I need a Sequel.
Finished The End And The Death Vol 2 today, very cool
hopefully Vol 3 doesn't take as long to come out as Vol 2 took after Vol 1
Its literally a setup book ngl
Cawls fucks around in a ship
Goes to planet
Goes back to ship
Bile steals his shit
thats it
Feels like there’s another half we haven’t seen 💀
lmao shut up
Old fabulous billy out here stealing
bILLY on god fr
Any good Tau books that are of the same vein as guard books?
There's a Tau POV character in one of the short stories from The Book of Martyrs. It's mostly about Sisters of Battle but the author for that short story also does Tau stuff so it's a good little bit for them.
It's The Matyrdom of Sister Anarchia.
Good look into how they try to work with diplomacy against a force like the Imperium
yeah but thats not a Tau book.
Any books about Tau getting bullied by any chaos faction?
Sorry, It's the only story I've read containing Tau, so is the only one I could recommend.
Don’t think so
Codex Tau Empire 8th edition

What would y’all recommend be the first book to start reading 40k with, I’ve been introduced to a lot of the factions through podcasts but haven’t done any reading yet
We got some in the pins, take a look there

What are you normally interested in regular media?
Like adventure story's or cop shows or horror or war movies
Or if your interested in one particular faction of 40k just start with them
Cult of the Spiral Dawn is nice
Cursed with vivid imagination
Otherwise, Eisenhorn books are always good to start
Read assasinorum kingmaker
I am not bissed
I swear
There are several novels and short stories by Peter Fehervari which have either Tau as PoV characters or even as the protagonists of the stories. Off the top of my head, there are:
- Out Caste (very short story about a Tau character)
- A Sanctuary of Wyrms (short story)
- Altar of Maws (short story)
- Fire Caste (novel)
- Fire and Ice (short story in the Imperium but linked to a known Tau character)
- The Greater Evil (short story about the Tau and, erm, something else)
If you haven't read anything by Peter already, as his style isn't for everyone, a good start may be Altar of Maws which is more action-focused and straightforward than most of his other works. And there's ||a female Ogryn named Coraline|| in it, which is undeniably a plus. I hope we'll get ones in Darktide too someday. 😉
I kind of skipped on the fact that you asked for books which are of the same vein of guard books, but Fire Caste, in spite of its badly chosen name (the original name was changed as GW was pushing for Tau releases at the time), is a guard book with them fighting Tau in a world "too lazy to be a deathworld, too spiteful to be anything else", Phaedra. One of the big inspirations for this book is obviously Heart of Darkness/Apocalypse Now, so let's say it's a lot less heroic and a lot more nihilistic than most guard books.
The only thing I dislike about Fire Caste is the guard regiment in it is entirely modelled after the Confederates.

You mean the subtly named Arkhan Confederates?
God
Damn I'm gonna read fire caste
I just read the Bjorn short story
Jesus fucking Christ
At least I finally found a story that's actually grimdark
In general I find that these short stories are much darker than full size novels
The shorter the story the denser you can make the grimdarkness

I don't remember if Peter told me that while we were chatting or if it was in an interview but basically he chose confederate soldiers as an obvious inspiration for the Arkan Confederates because he wondered "what regiment from history would be the most unfit for jungle warfare?" and he came up with them. I see other interesting things in this choice too as they actually won on their planet (the Imperium intervening on their side being the deciding factor) and they're a ||"doomed" regiment as they're sent on Phaedra to die there||.
I'm assuming you're american and that's what makes it uncomfortable? Like, I'm French and let's say the regiment would be inspired by French soldiers from Vichy (the French who collaborated with Nazi Germany) for instance?
Well, I hope you won't hate it lol
I think dilara doesn't like it because its very silly probably
There's a bunch of regiments that look like substantially more modern bad people to be mad at if that was the problem
Oh hi krieg
The guard sending regiments at the wrong place is pretty common, the dragoons get slaughtered in like the first Gaunt book iirc
Oh, ok then, thanks. I didn't think of it because of the other well-known regiments with similar concepts such as the Vostroyans or the DKOK, but I understand. Peter also told me he kind of wished he had been less on the nose with the Arkan Confederates (notably their accent, which I didn't notice when reading, probably because English isn't my mother language). I usually really enjoy how he creates unique regiments in his stories, for instance with the Arkans having Zouaves, those nobles in exo-armours. That's a welcome change from most other guard books where it's almost always Cadians. Kind of reminds me when I was playing 40k 20 years ago and the game would encourage you to create your own unique regiments.
Yeah i haven't read fire caste but i get the idea its kinda closer to having a regiment called "the napoleonics" who dress like napoleonic soldiers and speak period french
Just kinda... weirdly anachronistic if they're part of your culture
You mean like the one I'm painting and using instead of DKOK? :p
More seriously, I understand as I've not taken into account the accent thing for the Confederates for instance.
And for my French-inspired regiment (which is also part of a RPG guard-focused campaign I'm GMing), I kind of had fun with their history, where basically it's distorted and they're not what they think they are.
One of my big inspirations for it was Mad Max: Fury Road where you can see how past elements of culture (Valhalla, McFeast) are all mixed together and not really understood. So I imagined (and it's kind of unfinished, but here's the general idea) that the planet they're from had a French-inspired culture, with the nobility being fond of the Napoleonic era. Then, with the time passing, the drawings had to be changed, replacing Napoleon with the God-Emperor for instance, and the planet history was gradually forgotten, replaced with the idea that their regiments helped conquer the galaxy with the 40k Emperor. They're a hive world producing lots of regiments so war is an important part of their culture, although they don't know that what they believe in from their planet's history are at best errors, at worst lies, and will never have the chance to realize it.
(and of course, that way, I can combine my interest for the Napoleonic period with my love for 40k 😄 )
Daemonculaba flashbacks
Damn, that’s a shame, I don’t get why more authors don’t write from both perspectives like every other chapter
Like in Brutal Kunnin’
I likely wouldn’t have read admech books, but the side of the story told by admech was still interesting to read
And now I have
You may like Day of Ascension then, it's similar to Brutal Kunnin' in that aspect, with PoV characters from both sides (Genestealer Cults and Adeptus Mechanicus). Also, its author, Adrian Tchaikovsky, is an established SF author and it shows in the quality of writing.
f
No I just don't like confederates

Theres a difference between making a regiment after napoleonic armies and southern asshats who wanted to keep people in chains.
I was gonna say yeah lmao
Oh, so my first assumption was correct, then. 🙂 Well, maybe Peter, being British, underestimated the bad blood still left after the Civil War, with some southerners still using the confederate flag up to this day and so on.
In my case, I read a lot about the American Civil War, played wargames and videogames about it too, so I see it more as a thing of the past. But I don't live in America so I'm not in contact with people defending the South's, er, values.
And at least, ||their fate in the novel, their sufferings (partly due to the feeling of superiority some of them display) and their history of being a doomed regiment due to what they did on their planet make it clear that Peter hasn't chosen them because he liked them ;)||
Yeah its a good saving grace.
I’ve unironically seen warhammer fans love Nazis but draw the line at the confederates

Why? Because one is older? Half of europe has plenty of reasons to despise napoleonic iconography
In my country Napoleon himself is a detestable figure
No. One is just more cringe than the other lol
Both are quite cringe ngl
Well...of course
Yeah, that's something I hesitated bringing up but the napoleonic French armies have committed atrocities in Spain for instance. It depends a lot of the cultural perspective.
Hm, I’ll have to check it out
Thankfully Spain had Richard sharpe to save them
I chose napoleonics for my example for a few reasons
Appropriate time period
Very recognizeable hats
Did atrocities (this ones pretty easy when you're looking at mobilized armies)
All the army vs army civil wars i know are too early or too late to be useful for the simile i think
i cant figure out how to get to the books on the new gameworkshop site
who made this!
i have been trying to figure out how to get to the physical book section for a week i can only find audio
lmaoooo
this ui is a disaster
every time you want to change the book filter you have to go through all the lists again
bruh
Yea the new website is a mess
It's even worse in the paint section, the old website was great for it but now the new one doesn't even tell you which type of paint you're looking at sometimes.
Yeah this isn't even being nitpicky, its legit awful
Friend nearly bought a bunch of Airbrush paints by accident because the website was saying they were base paints.
what the fuck
The airbrush paints unironically are better then normal paints for some colors lol
Since they're more thinned
Which colors in your experience are better as airbrush paints (sorry, it's not about books but I'd like to know ^^)? I tried some metallic ones and I do find them easier to work with.
The metallic ones, averland sunset, and zandari dust
new website sucks ass, took me fuckin 25 minutes of refreshing and random clicking to order cold one knights and a dreadlord on black dragon
thus why I only buy models on ebay
Web dev is hard and as people get more dependent on complicated frameworks it adds new and exciting ways to fuck it up
yeah and I could bet money on that the update was made because some shit in the backend was about to kick the bucket
could've done better job though
They outsourced it to some other company iirc
Web devs in 2023 be like
"Its time to serve some static content"
Installs 45 node packages
Ive only ever seen kindles or audios on the black library site.
I do get all my books from the wh shop itself (website)
i didn't think it could get worse then it was before.
the ol website was great this one desgin for phone user in mind, it works alright on a phone it suck ass on a PC. the fact you can't view multiple factions, nor can you follow hyper links from WHC for pre-order's they break, if your not in the UK F*** you. since if you change your region to your home reguib you loose the Pre-order item, and it doens't show up in the What's, New release, and Pre-order Tabs. it sucks the old website was suprior in every way
Let's hope they improve it. The 3D views are back already, which is a good thing... but there's still a lot to do.
When do you think we're going to get the third book in the Bequin trilogy?
Like there was 9 years between Pariah and Penitent and Abnett has been a busy boy, so do yous think it'll be that long again?
I'm like 90% sure there will be news about it shortly after The End And The Death Vol 3 releases
I imagine they'll release a new Ravenor Omnibus at some point then as well
@tall phoenix was this any good?
Its incredibly Alright™️
follows a female sniper character who ||at the end gets taken in by the Tau and says that Tau are bad because they use conscripts then does a cringe moment where she runs back to the Imperium saying the fascists are better lmao||
I'd not recommend it.
They had her reading /TG before she was taken lmfao
Lmaoooo
but yeah its not a fun book, very generic.
would rather recommend Genefather
this novel doesn't have a lot going for it but its a fun read
I’m craving guard doing squad level tactics against Tau
Dilara, as an internet friend I love you but don’t ever recommend me guy Haley without a warning ever again
Ah if thats the case then yeah read it.

Genefather good
Imperium Propagandamaxing
Damn, I bought Longshot but haven't read it yet, I'd heard it was pretty good
Its very much Guardsman Book
i had fun until the shitty ending
also just the whole
"OH NO HER ALLEGIANCE WILL BE QUESTIONED"
Literally doesn't even change sides and go backs to the fascists.
Yeah i deffo felt like the book wasted my time a bit
I enjoy that stuff more when its like Minka Lensk where its obvious she'd never change sides so you just follow em around without any of that tension
havent even got halfway through and now I go do a reread cause I lost my place 😅 of what I have read, I am enjoying it.
DAMN thats an oldie
avarage it was okay, mabye a possible feature serries, butcompared to something like 101st it shavels in compassion,
Yo isn’t that the mf that was fired from BL for copying war stories verbatim lmfao
That book is RARE
lol
OH YEAH
I was like "where the fuck do I know that name from"
Exact same thing for me... Earlier in the book, there's a scene where the main character (I don't remember her name, sorry) sees ||a Tau observing an aquila made by a child and seems curious, and not hateful about it||, and it was a moment of cognitive dissonance for her, so I thought "Oh we're going to explore that, this is going to be so interesting!". And then, well, battles, battles, more battles (with some nice touches about imperial propaganda) and the ending which was, well, unsatisfying to say the least.
It's almost as if the author was going to say something and then remembered "Wait, this is just a fictional universe about silly minis, let's not make things too deep" and then gave up on saying something meaningful.
On the other hand, I find the battle scenes well written, some of the depictions (||notably of the Tau society||) were nice and interesting. It's obvious there's a lot of work in this book. Just not on what could have made it original and thought-provoking.
Also, for a universe where "there is only war", I often find BL Guard books being so... soft about it, and often unconsciously glorifying it. The notable exceptions are the ones I prefer, such as Fire Caste or Fifteen Hours.
Yeah pretty much by entire problem with the novel too, I was glad to see I was not overthinking it and a lot of people I know also thought the same thing about the ending overall, it definitely had a really weird vibe to it
The feeling when you go to your local store that has 40k books and ask an all in one book for the horus heresy only to be told there is 64 books regarding it
💀
I was feeling comfy after seeing that the eisenhorn series was an all in one offer
so I was like
surely the horus heresy has something similar
Your options are: watching a YouTube video that misunderstood half the lore and is literally incorrect about the other half, scrap knowledge from memes and shit people on discord say, or suffer and read the books
It does but like the problem with the Horus Heresy is its entirely about Space Marines, the little characters you get are usually always put off as side-characters and it doesn't help that a good majority of the books are mediocre as shit.
fair I just bought the very first one for 10€ so it isnt that bad
still need to continue the eisenhorn omnibus though
Oh yeah the first 3-4 novels are great because it was written by an actual proper author Dan Abnett

been having too much fun with darktide
