dim loom
#

but thats whats also great about 40k, its all grey no real bad or good guy or at least by our standards. In that universe they have known pretty much "only waaaar" so their mindset is just always war. Like Arkham Land having an argument with other ppl about what a monkeys tail was really used for, pointing out one had this stupid idea that monkeys could hang from tree with it. Arkham was like its clearly a lashing attacking tool why would they hang from tree !?

storm jungle
#

I kinda dont like the "no bad guy good guy" thing

#

since almost 90% of the universe is filled with literally evil people.

rotund siren
#

true

storm jungle
#

However yeah theres a lot of morally grey characters that are written really well

rotund siren
#

they are very bad overall

#

just different kinds of bad

crisp heath
#

i mean, being an astartes? you mean, you wanna be denied human rights, comfort, love, affection and freedom since preteen years, to be brainwashed, subject to brutal drills and modifications, with a very high chance of death, only to spend the rest of your life in celibate devotion and war, constantly training, practising and inuring your mind against the cold and horrors of your reality until you're horrifically killed?

#

by 40k universe average joe thats great, to serve the emperor whooo sign me up. Dont think they know about the details and survival rate.

rotund siren
#

definitely

#

What's the quote again?

crisp heath
#

the 16yros that signed up to serve in ww1 didn't either

rotund siren
#

Blessed is the mind too small for doubt

crisp heath
#

just, the chances of you having a horrific life in wh40k are astronomically higher than here

#

because 30% of the imperium aren't safe, cushy civilized world, high hives, and paradise worlds

#

90% of the imperium are shitholes even by the standards of the already pretty dystopian 21st century

dim loom
#

just hope you are born on maybe in ultramar or to a rich family otherwise its gonna be pooop

crisp heath
#

paradise world i'm telling you

storm jungle
#

Or just get to guard a cemetery world

rotund siren
#

The only good thing to be in 40k, is to be an ork

storm jungle
#

probably the MOST depressing job

#

also yes orks rule

crisp heath
#

maybe being stupid would be fun idk i've never tried it

#

i just overthink and hate it

storm jungle
#

Hey

#

stupid and kunnin'

#

especially funnier since orks apparently believe in reincarnation too

rotund siren

Hooligans

absolutely

crisp heath
#

i lived in berkshire

some of my classmates almost sounded like orks sometimes

rotund siren

Krorks were too powerful, so they got nerfed with stupidity

storm jungle
plush mason
#

ork hunting is quite the pleasure tho

storm jungle
#

Tbh its hard to admit it

#

but orks are probably gonna be the only winner in 40k at this point

plush mason
#

um no

storm jungle
#

actually no they already won

plush mason
#

the nids

crisp heath
#

orks are winning, every single moment they are winning

plush mason
#

lets face facts

storm jungle
#

^

crisp heath
#

because they're having fun

#

and no one else in wh40k can do that

storm jungle
#

These are the only facts!

#

also the worst part of nids is they cant do jackshit

#

because plot

rotund siren
#

Orks v Nids, an endless battle

plush mason
#

the nids are even more endless than the orks

rotund siren
#

the only problem is, orks can be alive pretty much anywhere, and they can just zoom around wherever

plush mason
#

they have the galaxy surrounded

rotund siren
#

and?

#

the universe is fucking massive

storm jungle
#

And you can go up and down too lol

plush mason
#

exactly

rotund siren
#

they'd have to literally fill it up to track down everything

storm jungle
#

yoink

rotund siren
#

which would be insane

plush mason
#

the nids have eatten most of it more than likely

plucky moth
#

Orks also power scale up pretty much at will

storm jungle
#

Nah, nids cant do anything like i said due to plot.

#

Realistically speaking if they went with them adapting to everything the nids would have like 10000+ bioforms right now ready for any sort of battlefield tactic

#

however they got like what, 23 units or so

#

since this is a tabletop game

#

and whenever they are about to get new genetic data, oh no a faction stops them

#

rinse and repeat

rotund siren
#

Honestly, I feel like nids shouldn't even be able to exist

crisp heath
#

i don't like bugs

rotund siren
#

because they are such a redundant threat

#

like

plucky moth
#

I don't like bugs either

rotund siren
#

Chaos already wants to destroy everything; Orks already wanna destroy everything;

storm jungle
#

Yeah sadly, they're a cool faction but GW has written themselves into a corner. They're never gonna arrive in full force since 40k needs to exist.

rotund siren
#

Dark Eldar wanna take everything

kind dove
#

Nids need a vacuum nosed unit to suck up Orc spores if they ever want to truly beat the Orcs. Cuz even if you kill all the orcs they release spores and then poof they’re back in force on your planet in 5 years

rotund siren
#

Imperium wants everything

#

there's just so much

#

and then you have nids, the vacuums of the universe, just coming outta nowhere because reasons

plush mason
#

IF they kill off 40k like they did fantasy the nids will be the best way to do it

plush mason
#

wow

rotund siren
#

lol that is hilarious

storm jungle
#

I hate it since i was just picturing normal bacterial absorption, now thanks to you guys im just seeing tiny ork spores with stick arms and guns shouting

#

"WAAAAAGH"

#

🍄

plush mason
#

a friend of mine once said the orks are a race made for khorne and yet he can never own them lol

storm jungle
#

lmao yeah they address this in the new ork book

#

the chaos gods hate them since they got nothing they can offer to the orks

plush mason
#

yes deamonkilla

storm jungle
#

No not that

#

that lad is oooold

#

Im talking about Brutal Kunnin, it also shows demons addressing orks and being like "you guys are fucking jerks"

plush mason
#

oh the whole "not actualy connected to the warp" thing

storm jungle
#

Yep that one, like they are connected but Gork and Mork basically protects them from outside influences

#

even if an ork shows chaos mutations he gets killed for being "un-orky"

plush mason
#

well the old ones made them like that iirc

#

or did that get reconned?

storm jungle
#

im not sure, we cant be certain until it gets brought up again somewhere

plush mason
#

well untill then that origin story is still canon

crisp heath
#

On a note of redundant threats, I think Necrons are even worse on that subject

plush mason
#

bro they are the epitamy of redundant

crisp heath
#

Like, they defeated the Eldar in their prime, the Krorks which had advanced tech and make the 40k orks look like groots and The Old Ones which were the undisputed masters of the warp and the galaxy at the time... how can the Imperium fight that? 😂

storm jungle
#

Because they're in shambles from in-fighting and cant get their shit together?

plush mason
#

^

storm jungle
#

I thought that was the entire point of the Necrons as awhole incase they ever united.

#

its one of the reasons why i love them having personalities

plush mason
#

yeah once the silent king wakes up all bets are off on that

crisp heath
#

Yeah, but still, the Silent King is back in the game, isn't he uniting the Necron race once again?

storm jungle
#

Kind of...

#

hes having difficulties

plush mason
#

it will take time

storm jungle
#

basically imagine your president trying to unite your neighboring foreign countries

#

its a hectic nightmare

plush mason

many of the necro lords are waking up insane

storm jungle

Yeee or just getting dementia

plush mason

actual idk what this destoryer virus is

#

well yeah

#

i know what the flayer virus does to them

crisp heath
#

The flayer virus is so 40k and grimdark, I love it

plush mason
#

yeah

storm jungle
#

also the Destroyer thing isnt a virus, its more like a mindset

visual pumice
#

it's a virus now

crisp heath
#

One of my favourite things about the Necrons, it's also cool that Necron players are getting new Flayed Ones models

storm jungle
#

huh

visual pumice
#

yeah

plush mason
#

new flayed ones?

barren tapir
#

Flayer virus make necrons want their flesh back, but since they cannot will take the flesh of others, destroyer virus make necrons go on their machine development

visual pumice

something about it spreading through some of the tombs or something in the lore now

storm jungle

visual pumice

visual pumice

it kinda annoyed me a little, but whatever

storm jungle
#

Yeah its fine, just eh

plush mason
#

tbh i doubt the necrons would have awakened at all if the abmechs hadnt started poking around their tombs

crisp heath
visual pumice
barren tapir
#

If someone is still interested in the necron destroyers here is the official lore about them:

storm jungle
#

However, considering that Destroyer Cults have emerged on seemingly every Tomb World, it appears to be a common flaw – and disturbingly so. Worse still, its touch is spreading faster through Necron society than ever before, and some who never previously showed any signs are now succumbing to the affliction.

#

Most interesting....

crisp heath
#

Wonder if they'll ever write how the Tyranids are getting some form of a virus such as this that they can't adapt to, just to nerf them a bit

final spruce
#

So the Crons are facing 2 diofferent "diseases"

crisp heath
#

So they're no longer such a galaxy-ending threat

final spruce
#

Still

#

They just began waking up

plush mason
crisp heath
#

Made me chuckle

plucky moth
#

tbf if I'd been asleep for millennia the morning wood would be...

plush mason
#

it would be easier to have the virus be as abaptable as the nids

#

so their queens have to spend a lot of time just fighting the virus in the nids dna

It's not even wood anymore It's as hard as steel at that point

I think some other factions have virus bombed nids before too? Im unsure

barren tapir
#

Imperium

#

The problem with nids is that they adapt very fast, so unless you can infect all nids at the same time they will develop a resistance to it

primal tide
#

Plus you run the risk of giving them ideas

#

The first half of how the virus bomb works is a tyranids wet dream

half gull

median sundial
#

What's the purpose of a Chaplin? I know they're superiors, but are they kinda the equivalent of a bishop making sure the soldiers on the battlefield are on the holy track or is there something I'm missing?

half gull
#

it depends on the chapter, but unless i am mistaken the original founding of chaplains was from the 'no psykers in the legions' thing by the emperor

#

now its variable on what chapter you are talking about

#

though i might be wrong

frank garden
#

I do believe Chaplins were mostly used by the Word bearers back in the day.
Later on they they were added to the other legions as a way to keep an eye on the souls of the marines, make sure they upheld their vows and didn't stray from the Emperors light.

half gull
#

yeah i was rereading a thing about them, apparently malchedor took inspiration from the word bearers chaplains to have other legions do the same, to observe and essentially be HR for the legions

#

making sure everyone is following the rules

median sundial
#

So I was right.

half gull

black templars are probably the closest to the original intent chaplains at this point

Here’s from what I personally gathered from this pic to in game we got the priest, orgryn, guardsmen and a sniper of sorts. Pay close detail to the weapons

final spruce

No powerfist in sight

#

Id class them more in weapon types

Sadly no powerfist I can confirm but a hammer for the priest and power sword for the Sargent are confirmed in the end of the gameplay video

Then who the fuck said power fist in cover

gleaming arch
#

Well we got the specialist and a Sargent in the gameplay at the same time

#

Idk someone else

#

I was on ripper gun topic

final spruce
#

Ah, ripepr gun nice

#

Well that weapon is big but it lacks the drum mag

gleaming arch
#

True and it looks more pump action then the gun

half gull
#

im guessing that is that break action launcher we saw in the video

final spruce
#

But ripper gun is a basic weapon for ogryns so I think it would be in

half gull
#

maybe not though

gleaming arch
#

Wrong

#

The break action is modeled to look like a thumper GL then what we saw plus the barrel isn’t that long especially for the orgryn

rotund siren

serene eagle
#

What kind of weapon is the priest using?

#

It looks like a power hammer

plush mason
#

might be a thunderhammer

#

its an inqusitorial model of ether a powerhammer or a thunderhammer

rotund siren
#

it's most likely a powerhammer, mostly because it's one of the weapons already confirmed by the PC Gamer magazine

#

you can find the image in the pinned messages of the #theorycrafting channel

plush mason
#

what exact is the diffrence between a thunderhammer and a powerhammer?

rotund siren
#

Thunder Hammers are used by Astartes

#

and possibly Inquisitors

#

because they are too massive for humans

#

unless perhaps the priest is using a small version, if such a thing exists

plush mason
#

i see

#

i guess a powerhammer is just a small thunderhammer

rotund siren
#

kind of?

#

a power hammer has a power field around it, like with a power sword

#

A Thunder Hammer is the opposite

plush mason
#

and iirc the inqusision has access to all armorments in the imperium

rotund siren
#

When it hits something, it releases an energy blast

#

iirc

plush mason

@plush mason 'The Inquisition Has stuff' excuse doesn't make sense

plush mason
#

?

serene eagle
#

The inquisition doesn't share resources much, they are a bunch of solo agents with goons working for each inquisitor

#

The resources of each inquisitor varies wildly

plush mason
#

i just meent they can demand any and all things/bodies they need

serene eagle
#

They can't, actually

#

That depends on the inquisitors clout, respect, favors

#

They can boss around planetary governors

#

But if they say to astartes 'give me your armory' the astartes will just say no

plush mason
#

ngl the more i learn about the inquisiton the less i like it

exactly

serene eagle

I jest, the inquisition is cool

plush mason
#

do they even have a true chain of command?

serene eagle
#

But the first thing you have to understand about 40k is that the imperium is based on the Byzantine Empire

#

Aka the beurocracy is fucked and noone works together properly

plush mason
#

thats most if not all great empires

serene eagle
#

They do have a chain of command

the higher ranking ones are super strong though arent they

#

the SoB's

storm jungle
#

Canonesses?

#

Eh kind of? Like they're OP but its because they got lots of good equipment, relics.

barren tapir
#

Not really, they are still humans in power armor, they are hardened, but like the veterans of IG

storm jungle
#

They arent genetically modified

kind dove
#

Before they were the SoBs they were named wives/Daughters of the emporer when Vandire co-opted them into a military force

buoyant crypt
#

I cant remember exactly the names, i read a lore segment about an SoB with a special sword that liek randomly shows up places

storm jungle
#

oh Mark of Faith

kind dove
#

So they think themselves as close to the emporer as SMS

barren tapir
#

They have a superiority complex, and dislike also that many SM chapters don't worship Big E as a god

barren tapir
buoyant crypt
#

just seems kinda OP

kind dove
#

Totally not a warp entity

buoyant crypt
#

Her?

barren tapir
#

That is a living saint, it is not a normal SoB

#

It is like comparing SM to primarchs

buoyant crypt
#

yeah but she didnt start out a saint

#

idk anything about the lore

barren tapir
#

But cannot be considered a SoB anymore

final spruce

Saint Celestine is a girl being chosen to fuse with the initial Celestine i believe ?

kind dove

Celestine is most definitely Not a warp entity- The Ecclesiarchy

barren tapir

That is sabbat

And, its not always a SoB that is chosen

And BTW, everyone know that SoS are the real BAE

The saint that the metal mask wearing folks believe in

noone saw that

"Though supposdly slain, Drusus was seemingly resurrected as a Living Saint, leading many to believe that held the Emperor's favor."

barren tapir

bc the sm accept that the emperor is massively powerful so they pray to him

barren tapir

He was probably killed, but we all know how those things work

crisp heath

but they are literally forbidden from worshipping him as a god

barren tapir
crisp heath

Which are on another level, we discussed them in general

ashen zenith

so they do believe in the machine spirit?

barren tapir

They go with what work, they may not question if the machine spirit is real or not, only that their bolters shoot, and if the way to achieve that is to spread incense on it they will do it

ashen zenith

alright i c, thanks for the info

barren tapir

Also that change from chapter to chapter, but most of the time SM are more spiritual than religious

Could be a techmarine doing it, which makes a little more sense

shes the last one of those gods alive right?

celest dome

If I would write for GW i would make a way to make her free
But knowing GW and the fact that they want to keep a Status Quo

It would be lame if they free her

Ynnari or something of the sort

primal tide

+cegorach

buoyant crypt

why would it be lame

she literally jsut sits there and gets infected by shit over and over

thats lame

She also give cure/hope to the mortal

primal tide

They make a good couple

buoyant crypt

if she like got corrupted and actually sided with him that would be even cooler then just being a lab rat

primal tide

Nah, corrupting her would remove the tension in their relationship

celest dome
#

I want for her to turn Mortarion in a Life Guard and have pretty Butterfly wing (Ariel is that you ?) flee the Warp but create a 3rd faction that is at war with both the IoM and Chaos

i mean, even them having a "relationship" outside of being a lab rat would make it make more sense

Yeah she was gonna get ate like the rest of the Pantheon

storm jungle

Yep!

#

Its why shes in with Nurgle

kind dove
#

Slaanesh was gonna NOM her too

primal tide
#

I never realized that but yeah I guess that's obvious haha

celest dome
#

Slaanesh was trying to eat all the Eldar gods, Khaine was saved by Khorne and Isha by Nurgle

#

I don't think Tzeentch did anything

kind dove
#

Khaine got busted to little shards. Only Cegorach escaped

#

The entire rest of the Pantheon? Kaput.

primal tide

the eldar pantheon are just there for show

they arent even that detailed like with Fantasy

rotund siren
#

RIP

kind dove
#

Though supposedly were badass in their prime.

primal tide
#

Eldar: hey can I copy your homework for the pantheon?
Chaos: yeah just change it a little

kind dove
#

They had to divorce themselves from the Eldar for some reason I can’t remember, and two of them kept messing things up, and it severely weakened them before Slaanesh pooped into existence

#

They predated the true Chaos Gods

#

When the warp was semi-stable

#

Most of the Chaos Gods spawned relatively recently compared to say... the Old Ones or the birth of the Eldar

storm jungle
#

I think the lore always hinted at the Boyz aka Khorne, Tzeentch and Nurgle being slowly birthed thanks to sentient species from the dawn of time?

#

Luetin keeps spewing stuff about this and im always unsure on it

vast frigate
#

They did

#

the lore points more towards khorne tzeentch and nurgle being slow buildups

#

but nothing tangible untill kinda after the eldar fell

kind dove
#

Khorne was human Middle Ages birthed, Nurgle has been around the longest (since he is decay), and tzeentch who knows?, and Slaanesh was pretty recent in lore

vast frigate
#

Thats actually the larger mistake people made

primal tide
#

I think the khorne thing is old lore

vast frigate
#

Khorne has been birthed first

#

BUT, not during human medieval times

#

he was manifested about around after the war in heaven due to the absolute carnage it wrought

kind dove
#

Shit I think that’s older lore then (showing my age)

vast frigate
#

ahs fine dw

#

warhammer is convoluted and a jumble of fuckery on purpose

#

allows them to change whenever they want

storm jungle
#

yeah this is the thing

kind dove
#

Nurgle is supposedly the oldest right? Since he is technically “change”? And has been around since things could wither and die?

storm jungle
#

Actually no...?

#

I keep remember people debunking that

#

like i said this is what makes it really confusing

#

But it could be true for all I know

primal tide
#

Tzeench is change, nurgle is finality

celest dome
#

GW said a lot of different thing

primal tide
#

Tzeench is hope for the future, nurgle is making peace with the end

kind dove
#

I meant more of the change of states of matter

celest dome
#

Nurgle is sometime the circle of Life, other death/decay of the universe

primal tide
#

Tzeench is learning, nurgle is decay

#

Nurgle can be the circle of life, but not in the sense of change as much as things taking their one given path

storm jungle
#

Nah nah

#

like the thing is

#

chaos gods are just evil

#

GW tried to balance them out but the "good aspects" are long forgotten

primal tide
#

the 'good aspects' are just chaos propaganda

storm jungle
#

Yeeee exactly

#

this isnt Moorcock's Multiverse where the Chaos Gods were actually kept in check by the Gods of Law

primal tide
#

I do like the idea of khorne being honorable and stuff, but it doesn't jive with basically anything else he's about

buoyant crypt
#

i mean

velvet yarrow
#

so killing a chaos god is a net positive

celest dome
#

There used to be a few "Law" Chaos God in Fantasy

kind dove
#

But I thought each had a “good” aspect

primal tide
#

Gw tried that

storm jungle
#

They did like i said

#

but GW tries to poorly explain it and it just falls on his face since all they do is sick shit

kind dove
#

My chaos lore is old hahaha

buoyant crypt
#

"good" as in not necessarily evil

#

like warriors of khrone fighting with honor and shit liek that

kind dove
#

Tzeench encouraging learning, thirst for knowledge

velvet yarrow
#

i mean its kinda hard to find a consistent good part of something like slaanesh given there origin

buoyant crypt
#

idk

kind dove
#

Nurgle being death/decay but also creation of life

buoyant crypt
#

self expression?

storm jungle
#

Like in Moorcock's universe the Gods of Law and Chaos are in a constant struggle, because their entire principle is Too much Law is really bad, but Too much Chaos is also really bad. Hence why they are both in an eternal war against one and another with mortal champions.

buoyant crypt
#

social freedom?

buoyant crypt
#

something along those lines

storm jungle

Notice the chaos star and the upward arrow

storm jungle

considering the entire concept is borrowed from Moorcock, GW really didnt handle it well lol

velvet yarrow
#

they still are spawned from and given power by mortals in the materium right?

storm jungle

ANY sentient being yeah

#

to destroy them you'd have to kill any mortal being in the galaxy

well i mean, if all of humanity just pooped itself

atomic pelican
#

Unless the Tau develop some mega tyrannid virus based on that FSE one

crisp heath

chaos will be there, and the presence of chaos by its activities increases the number of instances where bad vibes occur

velvet yarrow
#

so they didn't make them skaven 2?

primal tide
#

It's already a tyranid victory because they're coming from multiple other galaxies

kind dove

Tyranids throw a shadow in the warp, but is it because they are “displacing” it?

half gull

its noise

crisp heath

also, if intelligent life evolves again

kind dove

Do they have a presence? Can they be corrupted?

tyranids are so interesting but its kinda lame that the eventual end of thigns is just gonna be them eating everything right

nids can easily be popped

they just need to find a stupid bullshit STC
