(1) It is actually adapted from a written short story from a decade ago, with the Dark Eldar replacing Orks instead. The ending of the short story was also different; the Iron Warriors just turn the human defenders into slaves or Chaos Spawns, then leave with them in tow.

(2) As a seperate weak defence, when looking at that clip, I assume off screen There were more Iron Warriors landing elsewhere. Yes, a squad is insufficient to take a planet, but I think it is safe to assume here they were making planet fall everywhere else.

(3) As a common point in both the written story and the animation, the Guard do not put up much fight because Imperium being Imperium, the existence of Traitor Marines is, sometimes, a secret too well kept. Which is why in both the written ordinal story and the animated clip, the Guard don't react (initially) to being brutalised by the Iron Warriors.

The guardsmen, literally all they did half the time was miss their shots on enemies STANDING STILL OR EVEN MOVING SLOWLY despite having better numbers then the dark eldar, the Eldar during the scene where they were trying to do an infantry pushed on entrenched enemies for some reason the guardsmen had absolutely nothing set up, no heavy bolters no machine guns no literally anything besides them just shooting in the general direction of the enemy, swear I saw like 1 dark eldar die to a guardsmen that entire animation and it was from a random flametroop, oh and with how the enemies were attacking not even 1 tried throwing a nade? Just look at space marine 2, notice how EVERY guardsmen is literally just a rifleman? Not a single one is using the heavy bolter, theres no plasma guy, to autocanon, no ogryns, no nothing lmao, and while yeah that was probably for gameplay reasons still a narrative plot hole

Its weird how the game pushes guardsmen in some missions as something that could turn the tide or whatever but they are only half decent most of the time, like, strategems have shit like "imperial guard spawns" and seige let's you buy guardsmen (that for some reason don't always spawn on some of the lower floors) but half the time they just lowkey die and do the dumbest shit like ever tho, and its like wow I want them to be useful but this is lowkey just embarrassing
