I'm working on a short story about a Necron Phaerakh who's the sole sentient member of their dynasty, everyone else is basically just full automaton. So she wanders the galaxy holding worlds to ransom with a doomsday weapon in an attempt to force them to be her new Dynasty but they always fail to meet her expectations in some way or another and she activates the weapon then leaves to find another world and try again.

The twist/crux ||is that on the world that's the focus of the story she connects with one unruly subject who keeps challenging and arguing with her rather than just bowing and scraping in fear, but the other people terrified that the Necron will get offended by their behaviour, decide to murder them and then present their body expecting to be rewarded. The Phaerakh calls them fools for killing the only thing that was keeping her from destroying the planet and activates the device.||
