Imagine a (relatively loyal, even if not dogmatically doctrinal) Rogue Trader being informed of a T’au Gue’vesa stowaway on their ship. That person is actually a 2nd generation human in the T’au empire that wants to go back to the Imperium (and then cue the entire story being a 40k version of immigration troubles of current society on both ends of the equation).

The Mordian
A Mordian is the traditional dish of the Mordian Iron Guard for very special celebrations, such as a campaign ending in the inevitable Imperial victory, or a soldier being dismissed alive from service after serving for 20 plus the allotted time years. It is a vatmeal bun sliced in two with a grox steak, a slice of heat-viscous reconstituted protein and a pickle put inbetween. The dish has gained quite some popularity among other regiments which fought alongside elements of the Iron Guard, and now is, in a myriad variations, had on many troop ships and way stations, and considered a common meal for well-off travelers between the stars.

The idea that it is their manifest destiny to reunite all under a religion.
The reunification wars of Terra/Spain being mirrors of each other.
The Space Marines are the knightly brotherhoods that reunited Spain.
Then you have Rogue Traders, who are just Conquistadors
And Inqusitiors being themselves.
The Ecclesiarchy being the Catholic Church.
